NFC icon grayed out - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

I just received my T-mobile Pixel 4 XL. The NFC icon in the pull down menu is grayed out - it does not have white lines on the dark background and it does not turn blue when NFC is enabled. Tapping it does not enable or disable NFC. This is my first Pixel phone. Am I missing something? Thanks!

Noticed exactly the same this morning when trying to enable NFC via the quick button.
Long pressing the NFC icon will show the the menu for enabling/disabling NFC and it works fine there.
It seems just the quick button is bugged.

Thanks! At least I am not alone  And I will be sure to notice when an update corrects it! :fingers-crossed:

No Icon in pulldown menu and NFC not working great
Just got the phone last night after I got home from work.
One of the first things I noticed was no NFC toggle in the pull down menu, and it was not there in the editable list to add it to the menu.
Supposedly NFC is enabled currently under the Settings > Connections Preferences > NFC but I have had very little and very inconsistent success in scanning. Most times it times out after initially starting the app up or doesn't actually ever read it, I think I have only a handful of successful reads. It needs more testing to determine if it is what I am scanning or if it is the phone itself. I am coming from an OG Pixel XL where it worked flawlessly so I am not sure what to think but this is very concerning to me as I use this NFC device hourly at a minimum(Freestyle Libre CGM Monitor).
Anyone else have scanning issues with NFC?

Does anyone know how to remove the NFC logo and Power Saver from the notification bar

Hey all.
I know I'm not the only one but my At&t HTC One kinda annoying seeing nfc that I can't even use the way I want to and power save option on the notification bar that I really would never use. Has anyone found a way to remove it?

Root and use custom rom or root and use modaco tools to remove...use the search function

I read that you can long press on the notification, and disable the app and it would actually still be turned on.
Just a question... How did you even get to show an NFC icon on your device? I myself wanted to at least show that icon when my NFC is turned on to no avail. This has been bothering my for weeks already as I am afraid that I might be having a broken NFC chip on my device as everytime I toggle it I don't see any N icons at the statusbar at all.

For NFC to work, you have to turn off Power Saver. I learnt this the hard way when I thought my NFC chip wasn't working as well, was halfway to the shops for an exchange when I thought, let's try this one last thing
I don't have any NFC notifications though.

I don't think that's accurate, unless it only turns nfc off at a certain battery threshold.
Tested mine @ 27% battery and it still makes the bloopy nfc sound, with power saver on. I also do not have any nfc notifications, just the sound.

The NFC icon only shows up on AT&T(possibly T-Mobile/Sprint) configured devices. If you're installing your ROMs with the International settings, it won't show up.
EDIT: Also the NFC antennae itself is located on the top quarter of the phone, so if you're trying to make contact with another NFC device or a tag, you'll need to position it there.
Ohh ok So it's another AT&T exclusive lol! Finally this made my mind at ease now... Was really wondering why no icon shows up yet logcat doesn't show any errors at all. :good:

To remove the "Power Save" notification (without root), long press on the notification, tap "App info", then force close. The notification will go away until you either reach 14% battery life (at which the Power Save turns on), or if you restart your phone. Then just force close it again.
Xposed module to remove the NFC icon completely!

I just wrote a Xposed module which can remove the NFC Icon (I only tested on HTC One X, but should work on HTC One). The NFC Icon is complete GONE! You could check out on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467970
To remove the nfc icon settings>more and untick the nfc box..
There is an app in the play store that will remove the power saver icon if you mean that you want to use the power saver, but not have the icon in the status bar. Otherwise, just go into settings aswell and turn it off. Settings>power
Or did I totally misunderstand the thread?
Edit: the app is called 'jmz power saver disabler' again, this is if you want power saver running, but not the icon visible. Otherwise just turn off power saver under settings.

I don't think he wanted to turn these features off, just doesn't want the notification(s) taking up room in his status bar. The NFC icon can be turned off (if you're rooted), by navigating to /system/customize/ACC/default.xml - open this with a text editor. Find <item type="integer" name="nfc_show_icon">1</item> and change 1 to 0, then reboot. Now NFC can be on, and the icon won't be there. Haven't found an easy way like this for the Power Saver notification, but like mrrick said, there is an app to do it, as well as a few other options in Dev
Edit: whoaaa this thread was way dead, man...
Haha.. Whoops

[Q] Qualcomm iZat Notification

When I first turned on the m8 there was a Qualcomm iZat message on the notification bar. I have not seen it since. What actually happens when you tap that notification?

A window with a brief explanation appears and a check box if you want to turn it on. It a location service thing.

I've turned mine on, I haven't experienced any kind of negative impact on the battery or anything (that I've noticed anyway). If you want to run it and see for yourself you can find the app within your app drawer.

Strange hw issue

Strange issue - 2 things don't work: navigation keys and WiFi. No response at all from nav keys, no ripple, nothing. I know it's not the touch screen, since unlock and other touches show up fine. It's like some overlay is blocking it. WiFi just shows 'turning on' dialog infinitely, and never connects. Every other function workout fine. I've flashed stock KK, LP, and MM. All the same.
Is there some piece of hardware that controls both of these functions, or is it just bizarre coincidence?

Every service test and diagnostics test passes without issue, even WiFi, which never turns on...
Try resetting your phone or something,it could be possible you installed an app or something of that sort which is causing the navbar and wifi not to work, that happened to me yesterday on LineageOS(and Magisk kept dissapearing every reboot) and after I reflashed the ROM and resetted it worked fine

How to disable access to the Notification bar while in the lock screen?

Hi, I'm using Note9 with Screen lock type = PIN + Intelligent scan + Fingerprints.
Here is my experience:
[1] When I turn on screen (by the Power button or Home button), the lock screen appears. Here I can swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Notification bar.
[2] If I swipe the screen to unlock, the num-pad appears where users can input PIN. Here I can NOT access to the Notification bar.
The question is, how can I disable access to the Notification bar at the step [1] above.
(access to the Notification bar is already disabled in the step [2] above).
Thank you guys for reading my query.

Weird. On my Note9 it happens as steps [1] and [2] I shown above.
Did you check it clearly by following steps [1] and [2] carefully?
Thanks for your feedback.

I'm using pin and fingerprint for unlock also.
If I press the power button to lock the device , then I press the home button im presented with the lock screen. If swipe up I'm asked to enter pin number. If I swipe down I see the shortcut toggles.
I have my notifications as icons not banners though.

Yes yes I meant these shortcut toggles.
I don't want this to be shown on the lock screen as I (or other people) can change settings by tapping on these shortcut toggles.

I know exactly what you mean. I had the same issue on my Pixel. What is more frustrating for me is that many times when the phone is in my pocket the notification icons get pulled down and something gets turned on/off by accident. There should be a way to disable the notification pull down until the phone is unlocked.

Oh, never mind, I have tested on my Note9 and it turned out that although you can pull down to show the notification bar, you can NOT toggle those icons as it requires the screen to be unlocked before toggling on/off.
So no need to worry anymore.

Yes but here's the problem... if you accidently pull the notifications down and touch an icon and then pull it out of your pocket and unlock it, anything you accidently touched will be turned on/off. Therefore I still wish there was a way to disable it from the lock. screen

Nope, all unattended touches before unlocking screen will not be accepted. I have tested.
You can check it by yourself.

I did test it. From the unlock screen I pulled down notifications and touched the wifi icon. Then I unlocked my phone and the wifi turns off.

I also tested on my Note 9, here's my results:
WiFi can't be turned off unless you unlock the phone right away, so if the phone is locked and you pull down the notification panel and click to turn off WiFi, it will it prompt to unlock the phone, if you don't unlock and screen turns off and then you unlock, WiFi will still be on.
Bluetooth: It can be turned off and doesn't require the phone to be unlocked, but it can't be turned on without unlocking the phone.
Sounds: Ringer can be changed without unlocking the phone, so you could accidentally turn your ringer off
Flight Mode: Can't be changed unless you unlock the phone (same scenario as with WiFi)
These are the only 4 I've tested.

Anyone had any luck with this?
I'm also trying to disable the Notification pull-down drawer on the lock screen for security reasons.
I went through all the menus and settings, but it seems Samsung has removed this option altogether.
I'm using a Note 9, Android 9, OneUI v1.0 (latest as of this post).

Question I have a few things (UI/automation) I'd like to change and would like some help

My old thread was about pre-sale questions but now I have the phone and things got a bit messy and disorganized so I'm hoping to make it simpler and cleaner here.
If root is required for any of these, please specify... because I'm considering not rooting this phone.
1. Is there anything like CarrierIQ I need to remove?
2. Is there a way to customize the recent apps that appear at the bottom of the screen when I open the app drawer?
3. Is there a way to stop the phone from requiring pin/pass/print/face/etc when paired with a specific device? For example, while phone is paired with car I can double tap the screen at any time to unlock it without any kind of authentication needed. I had this on my last phone and loved it.
4. Is there a way, in general, to make it so if I double tap or press the side button to turn the screen off, it won't lock right away. For example, I tap the side button to turn screen off and 15 seconds later I don't have to authenticate at all to access phone. If I would have waited 31 seconds or longer, I would have to authenticate again. I also had this on my last phone.
5. Is there a way to instead of having icon and/or percentage for battery to have a number inside of a circle (preferably a dashed circle), where the circle also represents the corresponding percentage?
6. Is there a way to make a press of the home button in the center bottom of the screen do a full drag down of the upper menu....allowing me to toggle all of my quick toggles?
Thanks!
3. Yes, either use smart lock or set up a Bixby routine to keep phone unlocked device when connected to Bluetooth device (also works for WiFi)

Wow, I never saw that anywhere and I went through all the options. Now I searched for it and it's there. That's exactly what I wanted. I was using that on my old phone (Smart Lock). Thank you.
I also found the setting for automatic locking when screen turns off as well as disabling the "suggested apps".
