I have a note 8 n950F. I am using a type c to hdmi coverter as in the pic. For some reason reason it works my friend;'s s8 and note 8 but not mine. It doesn't give even screen mirroring on my phone. I have tried stock rom and other roms as well giving me the same issue. Could there be a fault in my phone's type c connector or do I need to install a software to force it to work?

I have the same connection and is working good. Cause it's a cheap accessory sometimes it works and some others don't. In order to have DeX you have to connect the USB power, otherwise you only have screen mirroring. Try using different connector , I have to return one because it wasn't working and the second one is working.

I dont know if your port is working; connect your phone with the USB C cable to a PC and see if you can transfer files and charging at the same time, if yes, your port is working properly. Also, if you use your wall charger you should have "fast charge".
Maybe the connector you bought is faulty and you need another one.

Hi,
I just received an OEM Micro USB to HDMI adapter today.
I connected my Note to the adapter and then to the HDMI cable of my TV.
Unfortunately there is no HDMI signal on the TV side.
Now, I don't know howto activate TV output on the Note. I don't even know if that's possible.
Can anyone guide me on how to activate HDMI output on the Galaxy Note ?
Should I make any settings ?
Should I play a video ? (or would it give out video from HDMI even at home screen ?)
Should I power the phone and/or the HDMI adapter through USB ?
Thanks.

Connect HDMI cable to MHL adapter, and other end into TV. (duh...)
Plug your charger cable into the MHL adapter. (output won't work without this)
Plug your MHL adapter into Note. (no configuring required!)
Everything you do on your Note will be mirrored on your TV/Screen, at the Note's native 1280x800 resolution. Plain and simple!
Video's that are played via the MHL adapter will be played at their own native resolution, up to and including 1080p.
Enjoy!
thank you.
it doesn't work unfortunately.
maybe my adapter is not working but it passes power through USB.
how can I understand if it really doesn't pass HDMI ?

It's possible that you have a faulty adapter. It should just be plug and play, but you have to make sure that the adapter is receiving external USB power in order for it to work.
ok; it works now.
the micro USB connector was not fully connected...
thanks.
Similar issue
Hi, me to facing similar issue. The MHL adapter when connected does not show any notification on the screen. The only thing it does is charging the phone. Does it mean its a faulty adapter?
i hope i am answering my own question but still if there is anything which i may be missing here

and what rom and kernel are you on ?
I'm on stock running ICS and I get funky results, sometimes it works for a minute or two sometimes just a few seconds. The problem seems to be on the TV, a Sony Bravia, the HDMI setting has to be Wide for picture quality (it has zoom, smart zoom, wide, 16:9 and 4:3) but as soon as there is some glitch in receiving data from the phone the TV begins to scroll through those settings to regain a signal and I can't force a setting on wide for the HDMI connector, only for one of the SCART connectors.
The frustrating part is that it works flawlessly when I connect an Asus Transformer. Could it be the MHL's USB connector? If that is the case how can I check it?

Just in case anyone relooks this up.
Connect everything. Then REBOOT PHONE/NOTE. The TV will then detect it auto.
Hope this helps someone !!
It didnt help me... my sony bravia 32" tv just wont show the gnote's video. the same adapter works fine on my samsung 32" tv but not on the sony. I have even upgarded the sony tv's firmware too. tried changing to "Wide Zoom" settings and other things but still no video showing, although the tv does know there is something plugged in to HDMI port 1.
Anyone else got ideas?

lol, just don't try that any sony device to work together with another samsung device, this is a general rule for electronic trademarks.
*Frankly my friend, I lost a complete day trying my sony ericcson bt handset to work with my note, no success at all, so, I just bought a samsung one and everything gone well.
that sux, bluetooth is a standard and im sure there are no variants... they are cheap, so i will buy another one from ebay and see if it is bcos of the adpater and not the TV.

This did help me using a Galaxy Note and a cheap no-name MHL adapter I bought of eBay. Had it connected to the HDMI input on my Dell WFP3008 monitor.

Does anyone know of a way to have OTG and charging at the same time? I know you can use wireless charging and otg at the same time, I'd like to know if it can all be done through usb.

I have that exact cable. It only Powers the peripheral device. From what I can gather it's a software thing with the gs6, but I have such a small understanding of this kind of stuff.
It should be possible, I believe they had a docking station with a USB port that worked the way you're thinking

It was for the S4, but the reason it shouldn't work for the S6 is that the S6 no longer uses the micro-usb/MDL plug. Just saying that it should be possible to power the phone and do OTG

anyone knows if Marshmallow Android 6 new kernel supports charge phone over OTG cable for Galaxy S6 Edge?
Lava OTG charger, 40 bucks and works a couple times. Lol I'm seriously about ready to throw all my devices.
I bought this cable: http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-Player-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453677269&sr=8-1&keywords=otg+charging+cable and it works fine with my friends Windows Phone, i.e harddrive connects and the phone charges, but on my S6 it doesn't charge at all. Is this a wiring issue with the S6 or some software restriction?

did you ever find a solution - having same problem OTG cable working on other android devices but not my T-mobile S6 with broken touch screen
I know I'm late on this, but I have an S6 around and I'm trying to make other uses out of it, however I have struggled with this with everything I've done.
I haven't solved this, but today I came with an idea that may help some people, at least it seems it will work for me.
Ok, we cannot charge through the usb while using OTG, but we can charge through wireless and use OTG at the same time.
I have tested this with a cheap wireless base and I have plugged to the OTG first a powered usb hub and of course the phone was charging without problems. Then removed the hub and plugged a USB micro SD reader with a card directly to the OTG cable, it also continued to charge, it has charged to 100% with that plugged on.
Hope it helps.
Regards.
Will something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019R9ILTG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_q-JAxb7EJEY0P work on the OnePlus 3?
I would like to connect for example a DAC and a USB stick at the same time... Would that work?

I just bought a similar, though less expensive case I'm expecting tomorrow: Sabrent 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub with Individual Power Switches and LEDs included 5V/2.5A power adapter (HB-UMP3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TPMEOYM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_O9CFxb36PNQJJ
Everything I've read suggests most chargers are fine, though you'll miss the benefits of Dash charging. You don't need an overpriced USB hub, just type c cables. I'll update if something goes awry.
Some additional data re: cables here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...sb-c-compliant-cables-adapters-t3401820/page2

Normally, phones will support only one mode at a time; it eithers charges OR file-transfer mode. Correct me if oneplus3 is different (doing research, placing order soonish -> i broke my one+ screen )
All of a sudden my N8 doesn't react at all when I plug in my LaCie external hard drive through the OTG dongle. No power goes through to the HD, and no notifications in the phone.
MTP is activated in developer options, aswell as USB debugging.
The HD works like before with other devices.
Any ideas?
maybe the OTG connector is faulty, try another to see if it is indeed the culprit, worth a try

Are u using OTG that comes from Note 8's box or using third party ones? Yesterday i tried the third party and it's can't connect. Then i use OTG that comes from Note 8 bundling, it can.
It's the one from the box. I've ordered a new one to see if that's the problem.

Hey, did you have any success with the new adapter? I have a new, unrooted Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950U1) with the same issue. And aparently it was not the adapters fault as I tested it on another phone and it worked like a charm, so is a Samsung N8 issue.
Thanks for any info!

Sorry, but can't remember now if it was the new adapter or the fact that my phone was in for screen replacement that did the trick. See, they apparantly saw some malfunction on the USB-socket and replaced that aswell. Maybe the USB port easily damages?

Thanks HiGreen. I will try with a new adapter to see if that fixes the problem. I hope it is not a hardware issue, as the phone is brand new. Thanks again for your reply!!
I've had OTG issues w/ my Note8, Samsung Support over Twitter was useless. The OTG and GearVR works on another S8+ but not my Note8.
Sorry to bump an old thread.
I recently trashed my phone, and the screen's completely busted. Both the oled and the touchscreen itself is completely busted, but the phone itself is still working. There's some stuff I wanted to get off the phone, and I was wondering how I could do this.
The phone didn't have usb debugging turned on, I've tried using HiSuite & Vysor, and tried blindly using the screen with USB OTG (however i'm not sure if it was working -- i'm using an older model connector and it's adapted microusb to usbc), but nothing's working. I tried using the HiSuite system recovery, but it said the p20 didn't work with it. Due to that, I'm now locked out as when rebooting normally, I can't input my pin. I'm able to get a usbc to hdmi, but if my screen's bricked, i'm not sure how i'll be able to interact with the phone, on top of if usbc/hdmi will work if it's locked.
Is there a better way to do this that i've overlooked?
You can use an adapter that have hdmi out and usb port and maybe an type c for charging
I have this model and work flawless
I bought it from AliExpress
