I moved to the K20 Pro from my old workhorse OnePlus 3T. I have received the phone with a defective digitizer. It is extremely sensitive, and many times taps are registered as swipes. Many times touches are innaccurate. I bought it in India from a site called Flipkart, and they have refused replacement, so I am stuck with it.
I bought this phone instead of OnePlus 7 because it had a headphone jack. But this phone has been a real heartbreak for me. I cannot take the phone to a service center because I cannot prove the problem. This is something you notice only by using for a long time.
I hope a future software update would fix this issue to some extent. I am never buying a Xiaomi again.
If you guys have any suggestions or solutions, please let me know.
Why did Flipkart refuse a return?, That's not acceptable, you need to bang their doors or go to a nearby xioami centre

No third party app. To verify touch screen problem, went to builtin CIT by tapping on Kernel Info in the about screen. Then, to Additional Tools >> Touch sensor. Randomly, taps show up as lines.
Browsing websites or reddit is a pain, as taps become swipes randomly. It does not happen consistently, but often enough that it is a big pain.

It is an India unit under warranty. But I am afraid I won't be able to demonstrate the problem. It is not visible easily unless you use the phone for a long time. It is not reproducible.

Maybe when unit heats up? Try a couple of pubg gaming . Then test.
Situation update:
I went to About Phone >> System Update, then on "Download latest package". Reinstalled the firmware. The touchscreen problem has been reduced considerably.

Lol, all are so noobs in here. Just change your goddam cover. I had the same problem, its due to multitouch issue arising with thin bezels and amoled screen. My problem is completely solved now, even in the factory test. Good luck.

Just was being silly, I had the same problem, got solved, and I have been through the same thing so I can relate.
Btw am still facing the 27W fiasco and screen protector problems. Any leads there?
I have to use apps like Touchscreen Calibration from the play store to make the phone usable. Don't know how this app works, but accuracy improves temporarily.
My next phone will be a OnePlus. I am not coming back to Xiaomi again. MIUI is garbage.

My problem is not just the edges. Its that taps are registered as swipes. You click on a Reddit upvote, the screen just scrolls. You click on a youtube link, the screen scrolls instead of clicking. But it is very random, happens once in a while.
What is your screen protector issue? Fingerprint sensor doesn't work with a screen protector? I had that problem too, had to throw away a new screen protector on day one. But maybe a better quality screen protector would solve the problem. Not tested yet.

That sometimes I touch the side and screen at same time due to screen to body ratio and it registers a swipe. I had to change my unconscious habits of holding the phone
Mine touch senstivity is fine but sometimes the swipes don't get registered properly. Can anyone help me with it?
I am late but if others are looking for answer then Pixel Experience is the answer. It solved all my senstivity issues and my swipes are getting registered correctly. Thanks to the one who suggested me to switch to PE

Hello,
I have recently bought nexus one and now randomly I have problems with the screen - I click on one place and it does something totally differently. It is fixed if I turn off and on screen. Before posting the question I did do my homework - I found this
- Q5: Sometimes my screen registers touches in incorrect places, and I need to turn the phone off and on to make it work correctly again
A: This is a hardware problem, nothing can be done about it. Nexus One's digitizer sucks.
in FAQ and found out that screen can't be calibrated. Now the questions that I have are:
1) Do all of the nexus ones have this issue? Would you advice me to return the phone and get a different model or replace for the same model (I already have bought screen protectors and case).
2) How often does this happen?
3) Is this a truly a hardware issue or software issue?
If this is a hardware issue - can it be fixed by software (e.g. by restarting the driver for the digitizer every minute or something like that...). I've read somewhere on this forum (or on a different one) that motorola had similar issues and they have released a patch that has fixed the issue
4) Are their any hopes it will get fixed in future releases?
5) People who have the same phone - how often do you have to turn off and on it (the screen - not reboot)?
Any other issues I should be aware of?
About the phone - its android 2.3.4
1) Yes. Some are more affected, some are less, all have it. It also depends on a zillion of factors - including climate, average finger moisture, etc.
2) See answer 1.
3) I've never looked at the code, but Nexus One is out for a year. If it was possible to fix - I'd bet it would have been done by now.
4) See answer 3.
5) See answer 1.
You've done your homework, but still came to ask "just in case". Well, the answers didn't change for the last 1/2 year.
Thank you for the quick answer.
If all the phones have this issue - why people are still using them? Or this is something they have just got used to? Also I understand that the frequency is different for everybody, but can I please have some numbers? Its one thing if it does it once a day or once a week and totally different if it does it every hour or every 15 minutes of use... Can you please let me know how often it does it for your phone? Also are you using screen protector? Is there any corolation between screen protector and and frequency?
Screen protector is known to cause less sensitivity and less responsive screen, which might account for some of the trouble.
People got used to it.
It mostly depends on the moisture and heat - the hotter the phone, the more likely is the screen to fail. Without moisture and with casual use it'll fail once a day or so. When playing a game, it can fail more than once an hour.

It happens to all nexus ones, its a hardware problem. But it only happens about once or twice a week, so most people just live with it. Just turning off then on the screen fixes it, so only takes a second to clear the error.
Also heat seems to cause it, particularly when its charging.
I go weeks without ever seeing the issue. Other times I see it once a week. It sucks but not a huge deal really.
Hi guys,
Just a quick question.... if this problem is hardware and relates to the digitizer then is it worth just replacing the digitizer?
I notice you can purchase a replacement digitizer on eBay.
Is it worth a try? And if so, is the N1 easy to take apart?
I've taken other phones apart and repaired them so have some experience.
If you replace it all you're doing is waisting your time. It will be the same thing. It is not like the digitizer is broken/failing or anything. It just sucks. Its not broken. Better way of thinking of it is a hardware limitation.
Hi guys,
Well, not wanting to be beaten by this screen problem, having suffered for over a year, I decided to take the plunge and buy a new digitizer off eBay. Cost about £20.
Found a couple of vids on Youtube which show you how to take the phone apart etc.
Two months on and all working fine. Not one single screen issue since replacing the digitizer.
Now a VERY happy Nexus One owner. Just wish Vodafone or HTC could have done the same thing on anyone of those four occasions I sent the phone for repair!!!
Now also running the MIUI custom OS... what a fantastic OS!!
Well, I'm pretty surprised no one filed class action suit against Google or HTC for supplying faulty digitizers on Nexus One

wow! which seller did you buy it from? is it an OEM part or third party? was the multi-touch issue fixed e.g. X-Y axis all over the place when fingers come too close together? does it now register more than 2 fingers?
The seller on eBay was e_cell. Search for this item to see the digitizer I purchased: 190567591678
It was listed as: 'GENUINE HTC NEXUS ONE G5 TOUCH SCREEN DIGITIZER + TOOLS'
I used a video on YouTube to dismantle the phone and insert the new digitizer.
Search YouTube for 'Google Nexus One Screen Replacement & Take Apart Directions'
Sorry I haven't include direct links but the forum wouldn't let me.
Note: Once I'd taken the phone apart I ran a warm hairdryer over the old digitizer in order to soften the glue that holds it in the frame of the phone. Then I slowly eased the old digitizer out of the frame and inserted the new one. The original adhesive in the frame will hold the new digitizer in place.
Tip: Make sure you remove any dust or finger prints from the new digitizer before reassembling the phone. You'll kick yourself if you forget to do this as they will be visible on the inside of the digitizer and it will drive you mad! I made this mistake and had to take the phone apart again to clean it up. DOH!

I would love to know what sort of problems did the new digitizer fix?
My problem was when I touched one area of the screen another area would respond.
So a screen calibration issue.
It was most noticeable when texting. For example I'd press a key on the top row of keys and a key on the bottom row would respond.
A work around was to press the power button to put the phone into standby and press it again to continue using the phone. Sadly the problem would always come back.
I'd also have problems selecting App icons. I'd press one and another would respond.
I asked both Vodafone and HTC to swap out the screen but all they ever did was flash the rom or say they couldn't find any problem.
The issue I had is well documented on the internet.
So glad I never gave up on this.
wait so a new digitizer fixed the issue?
so theres a different version of this digitizer?
or is the model and product number still the same?

Do you have the part number of this new digitizer you replaced? it turn out there are a number of OEM parts with different parts number
Unfortunately I can't state the part number as I don't have that information.
I simply searched eBay for a digitizer and looked for a good seller who appeared to be trusted and had a good feedback rating.
I'd bought from 'e_cell' before and knew they provided a good service.
All along I knew I was taking a gamble when buying the digitizer but the problem with the phone was so annoying I decided it was my last hope to get the thing working properly.
I've had the phone close to a year and a half, and during that time its spent most of its life either away for repair (Vodafone or HTC) or sitting in its box because I refused to use it. Instead I bought myself a second hand iPhone 3G off eBay to get by. Things were made worse by the fact I am tied into a two year contract with Vodafone.
So trying a new digitizer was my last throw of the dice, so to speak.
And the fact it worked is brilliant. I still feel this phone (Nexus One) is the best phone I've had, and I've had quite a few.
Please remember... if you decide to do what i did then see it as a gamble. There are no guarantees in life.
Oh, and be real careful when taking the phone apart and reassembling. It's not particularly hard but there is always a risk you may damage something. So be warned.

Thank you for the information, so it turn out nexus one have quite a number of unresolved issues. I was wondering why didn't big G did not order product recall for people with faulty digitizer?

Well, luckily for me no problems as yet (though never say never!).
The most important thing when taking the phone apart is to take your time, and memorise where everything is located. Be firm but not heavy handed. There are some delicate parts inside the phone so you have to be careful.
Common sense really.
I've had no issues with signal strength. I get HSDPA most of the time, or standard 3G. My data (internet) is working fine and so is GPS.
Inside the phone there are a couple of connectors that control signal so you have to be careful and make sure if they disconnect that you reconnect them again properly.
I build and repair computers and laptops. If you've ever taken a laptop apart that has wireless LAN capability then you'll know there are specific wires which connect the antenna to the motherboard. The same applies in the N1 but on a smaller scale.
Good luck to anyone who tries this!
does anyone from the UK have a source to get a new digitizer from that fixes the heat related issue?
ebay has one for £22.50 (id: 10goodseller2012), and i'm almost ready to click BUY, just want to see if anyone else has more info before i 'blindly' click buy...
edit: i should add, 'e_cell' seller no longer has the N1 digitizers listed...
No matter what anybody says, replacing the digitizer itself won't fix the issue. It is deeper than that. It is the digitizer mixed with the onboard hardware to interpret the digitizer inputs. Usually it ends up just being heat related. I haven't had the issue with my phone for awhile, but that is because it doesn't get as hot as it used to with older versions of CM, but if I have it in the sun, in my car dock, using GPS, it will freak out all the time.

i too was sceptical, and i still am.
however, I've replaced the digitizer and so far it's perfect! i'm not sure it's placebo as i could get it todo it 100% of the time.
prior to ordering the new digitizer, i ran tests to see at what temp ranges the screen would play up - according to the battery temp (Battery Monitor Widget), it will play up over 40c.
what i SUSPECT is the fix, is the digitizer i bought is a newer hardware revision than the one i had. the new digitizer did come with it's own chip on the flexible PCB.
i did mean to write down the new digitizer number and compare from the old one to see if they have revised it - alas, i forgot to get the new number. (old one is 940-473-1r5)
its been installed for almost 2 hours now, and on test for around an hour to build up heat - screen on full, camera on, GPS on (using aLapRecorder HD) and it's perfect. before i could guarantee a problem with screen dimmed, camera on, GPS off, so early impressions are good!
I'll give it a proper test tonight on the way home from work - it'll have the windscreen blower aswell..
Hello XDA!
My note 5's screen stopped functioning after it was dropped. I sent it to an authorised Samsung service centre.
Everything is fine, only that I'm observing a pink tint (usually over white) on the screen, when compared to another note 5. Is this normal? Should I raise a complaint regarding the same, or is there a workaround?
Bump!
Come on :/ someone?
No, it's not normal, and I'm fairly sure you realize that. You should see if they will "fix" it again (obviously they didn't fix it right the 1st time)
The pink tint is an older issue with many devices, haven't seen much about it with the Note 5, but it is certainly a defect in my book.

Faulty display. No root cause identified, just a bad panel.
Read rumors it could be the adhesive not curing properly.
I had that issue on like 5 samsung s6s. I kept returning then till i got an acceptable one. Still never got a perfect one.
I just got the note5 last week and the screen is perfect.
Ide send it back.

Hi, after the March update, I found my Galaxy Note 9 screen turned yellow..
I turned off the screen, unlocked the screen and the screen back to normal..but the yellow screen will reappear...
Some people say it's a hardware problem and replace their LCD, but some people assume that Samsung technicians don't want to get dizzy and just say "you have to replace the LCD"
There is someone who brought this to the Samsung center, the technician just looked without checking further and said "the LCD has been broken" and he fixed it via safe mode (IDK the detail)
And some people solve this problem with FW flash via Odin..
I'm curious, do custom ROM users experience yellow screen too? is this really a hardware problem?
Thanks, and sorry for bad English

Those affected should. Samsung is greedy to force for hardware replacement instead of fixing their software. Samsung hardwares are expensive. In my country screen replacement for note 9 is about half of the second hand value of this phone.

hi I've faced the yellowish screen problem recently. My phone is 1 year and 7 months old. I visited samsung service center in my city in India. 1st they told me it was your fault that because of your mishandling this has happened and some brainless person told me to go for replacement which cost around 21000 rs(300$) in India. But then i asked them to find any dent, crack or even a scratch on body or glass if its mishandling. Then i showed them this article. https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-note-9-march-2020-security-update-broken-screen/
Manager head technician accepted the fact that this wasn't my fault any kept phone with him. After 20-25 days now i have my phone with screen replaced without giving a single penny. Samsung is such greedy company that pushes such faulty updates and loot consumers like they haven't looted us enough with such heavy priced phones.

Which city ?.
Because in Bangalore they kept for my phone for a week and returned it without doing anything.
Same issue not a single scratch, dent or bump. Mint phone. But Audio Dead.
They told me to my face and in writing that no Note 9 users have reported any problems after the update.
I told them to visit XDA and their own company community pages but they ignored me.
They demanded that the only way they would help is if I paid 26500 to replace the board. ANd even that would take weeks. Due to present situation.
Another guy in another city was quoted 18K for his Note 9 main board. So it seems they can charge what they want.
There is no fixed rate. They cant even match the rates on their own web site.
Lets just say you got very lucky or you have good contacts.

I am in Surat. I didn't have any contacts in Samsung service center. I went there and requested to look upon my problem. 1st the illiterate girl at the desk ignored me but when the manager/chief engineer came to know about the problem he peacefully heard me. I used my "Being A Doctor trump card" to further make him believe that i was no joking and lying. And ultimately I was lucky. Though i was very much prepared to go in consumer court if that failed.
They just returned my phone and told me to come back when I was willing to pay 26500 for a new board.
I have started a new Face Book Page Called Samsung India worst company.

did not work! can you give more information !?
Looks weird but its working for me, tap to switch on always on display then open the phone with fingerprint or other methods, screen becomes normal !!
So I opted to fix my own phone.
WHat I found was that the over heating had cause some microscopic balls of lead to have melted during the over heating and these were all over the main board. I suspect some got under the Amplifer 98512 IC. So I purchased the part form china for 2$. Purchased a microscope and fix it myself.
I also cleaned the main board in ultrasonic machine to make sure all the small balls were dislodged. Its been over a week and my phone is working fine.
I suspect if you try all the software options and nothing works. Open the back cover and look for these tiny balls. If you see them clean the board and put it back it may start working. If it has shorted something off course you will see the damage. May times just a clean and re-seating the flex cable solves the problem.
I wonder if Samsung return your old board if they charge you for a new one.
Hey, download this app PWMfree by going to this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78953726&postcount=48 this will resolve your problem. Once downloaded scroll down then allow access, that's it. I hope this help.
Hi , i also have a screen problem with my Galaxy Note 9 Edge but i don't know if it is the same as the above problems. The problem started when i turned on the "always display on" option and set the clock to orange. I don't know if this is a coincidence but as soon as i turned that option 2/3s of my screen turned to orange as seen on the attached picture. I tried reverting the options but with no luck. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Did i messed some some settings? I have the latest update installed.
Finally yellow screen fixed in 13 July 2021 update
From what I have heard if you use the gesture navigations instead of the on-screen button navigation method. You should not experience the green screen issue.

If it's an LCD display they don't just turn yellow.
Flash it back to the firmware it was running on.
Rule #1 if the phone is running fast and stable, leave it be.

Actually I faced the same issue with my K20 pro. Nothing worked for me , power button didn't respond and I took it to service center, surprisingly there it turned on without giving to them, Even though It's working fine now, I gave them to check for the black screen issue, and they replied they didn't find any log for that and even they answered the last used app on my device. From that I concluded it's a software issue.
Again till now, I didn't face that issue. If I'm wrong please correct me.

There might be many possibilities, but did they repaired it somehow, or just checked and gave back to you.
If it's given back to you without doing any repair of any kind. Please be very cautious, this devices will go black eventually. Please make a action as soon as possible before same happened again.
You can search and read other users review as well. This phone manufacturing must have a serious manufacturing defect that all users will experience some day

That's great, Could you please let me know how that software issue got solved.
Currently my phone's screen is black. I can't use it.
I do know its working fine by the sound of charging plug in and out and calls coming.
I m frustrated and going for a IPS LCD display worth 3500 rs since amoled will cost around 9000
This is my last try to solve it if I can.
So please share your experience how it was solved

Frankly I did nothing.
It worked fine itself. I got scared to switch to custom roms coz I thought it as a hardware issue, later came to know as a software issue. I heard that some people had fod issues with miui 12 after screen replacement. I can't guide you in this case and please do proper research before spending money.
Thanks

I can't confirm this as I didn't face that. I read this on XDA. I'll pin the threat if I find that.

Ohh ok got it.
You are talking about fingerprint will not work on IPS LCD display, yes that I do know.
But what options do I have?
It's either 3500 with no fingerprint or 9000 with fingerprint.
I can use other ways to unlock so it's kind of fine with me
Ok i am a bit confused. I have today went back to the store to return my Oneplus 9 PRO that i was not happy with due to the heating and batterit drain problems that me and many other have. Instead I ordered a Samsung galaxy S 21+ with the exynos version.
But I have read that it is exist a problem called the screen of death for this phones?? Is this for real a common problem at this day?? I mean should i be worried??? My friend have the same model and have never had any problem with it and he have owned it for a long time.
Your post is the first I've heard about such a thing....
So I'd be inclined to think no
It's been happening for a while. Put it this way, you never heard about it happening on the N10+ except maybe an isolated freak case. This has happen to a number of S21U owners.
Not sure if it's across all variants or is variant specific.
It requires a display replacement if it happens.
I had it on my snapdragon S21U and had the screen replaced by Samsung.

If it works...
Generally when you need to do hard reboots you have a hardware not firmware issue especially if it happens more then once even if the hard reboot temporarily "fixes" the problem.

Hi,
So this screen of death is a common problem still? And if you have it is the hardware that is somehow broken? And it doesn’t matter if it’s snapdragon or the other cpu?

Don't know... do some searches with XDA or Samsung forum in the search parameter.
It's not just one or two.
From what people who had them repaired said, it was hardware in their cases.
It happened to me. Screen suddenly won't turn on. I brought it to samsung center and they replaced my screen.

There are a bad display batch(es) out there... at least that will fix your problem!
Worst case is if it fails out of warranty.
Not good...

Well I don’t think it’s a common problem. Never heard of it. I can’t imagine a big company as Samsung continue shipping phones out if the knew it was a problem that occur.

When did it happend?
Whatapk said:
Why Samsung Screen Turns Black and Dead? The most common reason could be your device's crashed system. When your Samsung memory gets lower, or you meet a system update failure, the system would be crashed and stuck with a black screen on your Samsung Galaxy. You can also play games like Yareel 3D Mod APK on such mobile with ease. just enjoy the phone

They were already shipped.
This is more then an isolated failure...
The Red Screen of Death (RSoD) refers to the error message that appeared on some of the beta versions of Windows Vista as well as a few handhelds and video game consoles, such as the Playstation series.
