Possible Workaround tmobile one throttled Hot spot - OnePlus 7 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

So looking around to figure out a hotspot that works without a need of pda+.. I found this gem.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79897228&postcount=19
Need to be root for this to work.
I am on the one plan that has unlimited 3g throttle at 600kps.. did this workaround and now get full speed around 100mb consistently.
Let me know how it works for you.
My device is Tmobile brand-convert to international brand 10.0
Rooted
Stock OOS 10.. with magic.
After use, or during a call it will show no data. Just change your DNS on your PC or device to 1.1.1.1 and it will work. Might have to restart data services when your done to get data back working on the phone itself.

works better if you have right apn for pcweb

[Q] SLOW Orange UK mobile internet

Hi guys, got the i-9000 from Carphone Warehouse here in the UK about a month ago. Tried to flash JM8 on it without disabling OCLF so needless to say that bricked it (3BC was not enabled).
Sent it in for repairs, got it back a week ago and it's been one problem after another..First I experienced the "ghost downloads" from the Market and I got around those by constantly cleaning cache and data for Download Manager.
Then I noticed that I could not use the mobile internet almost 90% of the time. I mean I tried standing still, from a moving car, from tens of different areas and I basically can't access anything on the 3G network except for an occasional "burst" that makes it work for a few seconds. It just flips back and forth between 3G and H, looks like it's sending and receiving data for a couple of seconds then it just hangs and after a few seconds I get a "cannot display/connect" error in the browser or whatever other program I'm using that needs internet access.
So I thought Samsung must've borked the flashing. I went ahead and fixed my 3BC issue, reset it to factory default, formatted cache and flashed it with PDA JM8, MODEM JM4, CSC OXAJM1 hoping that would fix it. Well, it did fix the Market issues, downloads are now working properly and consistently. However, mobile internet is still borked..the only reliable way to use it is if it switches to G (GPRS)..I mean it's slow as hell but at least it's working..
Is there any setting I can tweak/change in order to make it work a little better or is the Orange 3G network totally crap out here?
P.S. I live around Bradford, UK. I'm on a dolphin 30 plan with included 500MB internet access.
G
Basically same phone from same company on the same network. Upgraded to Froyo using Kie hack early October and phone running fine without a lag fix and reception /3g working good (in London). If you haven't already done it, get my orange app from market and when you open it you will see option to use T Mobile network. With Orange and TMobile joining you can jump between networks whichever is stronger where you are. You will also need to ensure your network is set to auto and roaming is on.
See if that helps.
You may also want to read the link below and get Extremelabs speedtest from the market.

Data not working

I have an HD7 and intermittently I will try and use my phone, I will have perfectly fine signal yet none of my apps email/youtube/facebook/internet explorer/bing search can connect to the web. Signal will be be fine yet they will pull no data.
If I restart the phone it will work again for a few hours and then randomly happen again. Personally I am getting just a little annoyed with having to constantly restart the phone 5-6 times a day. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Just so you guys know I am not trying to troll or dog the OS, merely wondering if I have a faulty unit or if this is an OS issue.

so sorry, but do u have data connection with your current sim/plan????
my last plan did not have data plan on it and the phone did not work until i sudscribed the data...
and u cant set up phone with out 3G data plan...
I faced the same trouble few days ago. I dont have Wifi, cannot download "connection setup", but i flash a Singtel Rom (My HD7 is T-mobile):
RUU_Schubert_hTC_Asia_SEA_WWE_1.57.728.02_Radio_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10_Signed
Then it work, data connection is fine.
For anyone who comes from an Android phone with data service, check with T-Mobile to see if the service is combined or separate. T-Mobile did have two separate data services, one for WinMo and another for Android, and they would not work with the other phone system. This is how it was with my service and T-Mobile combined them for me so that my data service now works with either system.

Yeah I have data on my plan. Data will work fine for hours but then I will put it down while doing something use it again and no data. If I reset it then it works again for a short while until it happens again.

Hi Jason,
Was it difficult to flash your T-Mobile (USA?) HTC HD7 with the above ROM? Did you gain anything else over the original T-Mobile Rom? I presume it will get rid of the T-Mobile splash screen! Cheers.
Running into the same problem as the OP with my Mrs. HD7. Took hers for the last little while and I can do a reset and access about 3 pages worth of info or updates and then it drops. Tried manual apn configuration, automatic and htc connection setup and no luck. This is at all times of the day in all locations so it is not network based or sim card based as I went to the t mobile store and stuck in the sim and was able to access the network with zero problems on all demo phones. Customer care finally agreed to a warranty replacement after some help from a store rep. They would not allow an in store exchange unfortunately.
What network are you with? I get data issues on giffgaff quite a lot. But a reset does nothing about it - it seems to be related to which cell tower I'm bouncing off and whether it feels like giving me data connection (even though signal strength is maxed out!).
I have this same problem, personally ive had it with my HD2. A quick fix for this is turning on and off airplane mode instead off turing off and on your device.

SCH-I800 3G speed issue after root

I flashed [ROM][CDMA/VZW][2.3.5]Stock+Root Vanilla by dsb9938 and after the root, my 3G speed had slowed down drastically. I'm not sure if its because of the root (I don't really see how) or if in the factory reset, some settings got lost and the speeds are slow. I have also heard of carriers throttling devices that they know have been altered, I don't know if that is the case here.
This tablet is sharing its Verizon 3G connection to provide internet for a restaurant in a rural area. I brought down the internet connection to the store to root the tablet, and as soon as it booted back up and I ran the tether again, the 3G speeds were extremely slow. I don't have any speed comparisons from before and after, but its either the factory reset or flashing that stock rooted rom that made a change for the worse in network speeds.
Any ideas anyone? Its rather critical to get the speeds back to normal on this device.
Thank you in advance, always.

[TUT][ROOT] AT&T Wifi-Tethering Provision Bypass

DISCLAIMER: This is my first thread on XDA, so hopefully I'm not posting in the wrong place/format/context/whatever. If I am, sorry.
For those of you with AT&T plans that don't include Tethering, I came across a simple way to bypass this with root and allow you to run the built in tethering instead of having to use FoxFi.
What you'll need:
Xposed Framework
X Tether Module (Xposed Module)
Root (towelroot method)
Titanium Backup
Root Explorer/ES File Explorer
Step 1:
Install Xposed Framework.
Once installed, launch Xposed Installer, go to Downloads and search for X Tether
Install X Tether, Activate the Module, and reboot.
Step 2:
Open Titanium Backup and find TetheringProvision 4.06.72
Press the App and select 'Freeze !'
Step 3:
Open Root Explorer and navigate to:
/system/app/
Now rename TetheringProvision.apk and TetheringProvision.odex
to TetheringProvision.apk.bak and TetheringProvision.odex.bak
Step 4:
Reboot, Set up Hotspot and Enjoy!

Tried this, when I attempt to activate the HotSpot it says "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped."
After following the updated instructions, my hotspot appears to be working. Thank you!
Yea, that looked too easy. Usually you would swap the tethering provision files with hacked ones.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I see you changed the instructions in the thread. That just renaming the file like you suggested earlier, well AT&T caught on to that, and now that doesn't work anymore.

Hi shortydoggg,
You're right, I left out the most important part, the Xposed Module.
X Tether (or Moto Tether) is what actually clears out the array that stores the provision varification data (config_mobile_hotspot_provision_app)
Just running this module didn't work for me at first but after renaming the Tether Provisioning files it worked fine.
I also had trouble renaming the files until I froze the Tether Provisioning apk file.
I just ran another test and the built in wifi hotspot is still working great with my 3GB monthly plan.
Works awesome!!!!
BTW, I have the Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan.
Thanks!
Did this yesterday, worked fine. THANKS!
Also another grandfathered unlimited plan here; they provisioned the plan on my new GS5 but couldn't enable tethering. This solves that!! Awesome!!

Open the Xposed network on your phone and check that the tethering module is activated, and that the xposed network actually installed. You may need to do another step (hint)
Wifi tether speed
I was able to allow mobile hot spot on my Att S5 using the S4 method of replacing the tetherprovision.apk, problem is the speed of the devices connected is terrible. Fine for checking email on one device but not for streaming netflix on multiple like I need. Anyone know of a way to change this? Is it some config file that is set purposely to limit tethered devices?
Note 3 4.4.2
works, thanks
having trouble with the settings also

They shouldn't notice. I've been tethering on my s2 for years without any issues.
Some developers will say it is technically possible. If your concerned, a VPN service will hide all of your online habits from Tmobile.
I have a subscription through PrivateInternetAccess, I havent hand any issues with their app.
It works!!! I'm also on the grandfathered unlimited plan!
Thanks!!

Note 3 AT&T on T-Mobile, never used hotspot before
A few questions -
1. Phone gets hot when hotspot is on. Is that normal?
2. Connection drops from time to time. IPv6 connectivity shows "no internet access", but then works without me doing anything. Is that T-Mobile's fault?
3. When I received a call the icon changed from LTE to 4g, but while hotspot is on and pc connected, the signal never changed back to LTE. Is that how it supposed to be? I have to turn hotspot off and on after every phone call to get LTE back? Or is that T-Mobile not being happy (I have not used the 3gb hotspot limit on my unlimited data plan)
Thanks
Hi, first off a major thanks to OP for posting an excellent tutorial on how to do this. I was really hoping to get tethering enabled on my grandfather unlimited data plan before vacation and am so excited to not have to pay $15 a day for WiFi.
I've been having a lot of lag with the phone lately. Its very slow to respond to typing, switching apps, and even waking and putting to sleep takes 5-10 seconds longer than normal. Any suggestions? I followed all of the directions to the letter and aside from this massive amount of lag, everything is perfect.

Hey Nikon,
Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge on the subject can help out but here are my thoughts.
1. My s2 always got hot while tethering for long periods of time and my s5 seems to do the same as well.
This is normal and caused by the 4G antenna and WiFi antenna running simultaneously.
2. Perhaps IPv6 is not working but IPv4 is? I'm seeing the same thing on my AT&T connection.
3. I never had this issue. You might want to double check your APN settings, it could be a t-mobile thing but I really don't think they're targeting people who tether, it sounds more like the connection can't re-establish after connecting to a phone call.

Hey RSCTurner20,
I haven't notice any lag since doing this, does the lag go away if you turn off the X Tether Module and reboot?
edit: most likely cause and a quick fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784945
that's right - if you get a call or access phone settings while client is connected phone cannot re-establish lte connection.
I know when you get a call (hotspot off) on Nexus 5 it takes anywhere from 15 seconds to up to 5 minutes to get lte back
Is there a way to force phone to refresh frequencies?

[Guide] Enabling Full speed Hotspot / Tethering (Throttle Bypasses)

If your rooted then theres various ways to bypass and if used together chances are good you won't have to pay 2x for data: modifying your apn to allow dun type, adding the line: net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
to your build.prop and finally using adb from a PC (u can try this even if not rooted) type the following from cmd or powershell: "adb shell" followed by "settings put global tether_dun_required 0" without the " "s and restart your phone n hopefully that should do the trick.
If still throttled by TMo go into Magisk and install tethering_enabler or TTL tethering modules. These modules weren't specifically made for the 6T but they should still be effective. If still unsuccessful then modifying the TTL from the device your trying to tether to will help hide the source of data aim for TTL of 65 to confuse tmo.
If your not rooted then use PDANet USB tether to a PC and hide tether options then create a hotspot from the PC your USB tethered to or use the WiFi Sharing option in PDANet PC Menu. At least thats what works the best for me and I've tried many many things... One other possibility if your on stock no root is to add a new apn with all the same info as normal fast.tmobile.net lte apn only enable MVNO type to GIO for apn type leave it blank and save it. This should hide the default TMobile apn (and make the editor think your using a 3rd party like Mint) now go back and edit the new apn and under apn type put: dun, default, mms, supl try and save it. It should error n say dun not supported... Press Home and force close settings-reboot phone. The dun sometimes will stick if this method isn't patched yet I'm sure it will be soon.
Your final options are to use an app from playstore like VPN Hotspot or VPN Tether they might slow your speed a bit but they should tunnel all your data thru a VPN confusing TMo as to the origin of data. Probably the best and easiest way is by using a custom ROM as most haven't been tainted by Google's latest CarrierConfigManager commits or carrier apn restrictions. If anyone knows how to reverse these commits easily or any other methods not listed please let me know.
I'm currently looking for a clean TMo only dun enabled apns-config.xml so I can overwrite the default n modify the build.prop for a quick fix on any new ROM or update...
As you can probably tell being throttled or having to pay 2x for the same data is a pet peeve of mine and I've spent some time researching the topic. I'd love to hear what ended up working for you or if anyone knows a solid method I missed. Or has a recommendation for a good ROM with unlimited hotspot features built in for the 6t let me know. If any of these Bypasses helped you hit the thumbs up so I don't feel like I wasted hours of my life making this guide:laugh:

Right on what's the no cap no throttle unlimited run you a mo? I'm paying $25 for a one business plan it's unlimited but after 60gb they can slow u down and after 10gb of hotspot they throttle you to 200kbs lol but hey for $45 a mo they hooked me up with Netflix n my 6T lol still saving $15 from my old MetroPCs unlimited. But with the rooted bypass installed n the signal boosting hack I figured out I was at 430gb data and 217gb tether-hotspot last mo

I actually have the same plan. Didn't know it was discontinued until today for new signups. Kinda a bummer but I'll have to keep it in mind that I may not be able to get it back so easily. With that said they do sometimes send me the notification about the 50GB deprioritization/throttle but in my area I rarely ever see any kind of actual hit.
I thought you had to fix apn.xml
I can't figure out why but both my 1+3 and 1+6T have no limits on bandwidth out of the box. I can tether full speed and watch video with any resolution. I tried this unrooted, rooted, factory reset, even T-Mobile ROM. It was not like this a few months ago.

I tried this but it's become more than a quick xml mod as Google's forced various carrier check calls into their OS and it seems most aosp brands have incorporatated these checks blindly into their ROMs as well. If anyone's able to get a rom clean of carrier checks or knows of a kernel that will bypass these and willl keep a steady ttl of 64 plz post details. Otherwise the only success I had outside of pdanet tethering was to root and force a ttl with an app like ttl master yota 4.0 and running ttlpatch on your PC (Google those names for downloads) your kernel needs to accept iptables old versions if ne1 has a more upto date ttl modifying app that supports newer iptable changes (off the top of my head I forget what they are plz post) If I get around to it I'll try n write up a lil magisk module or app for easier forced ttl on Android 9+ ROMs but this or a faux VPN would be easiest way around any restrictions put on by carriers... Hope this helps a lil
I hook to PC with the USB tether and mods I tried to make run the hotspot off PC and it works i get 20-30mbs with data so hotspot I believe is the same I never had issues I'll start testing more if anyway I can help I will
most changes I make with a file manager resets every reboot so I used terminal to change everything so it doesn't revert T-Mobiles paid hotspot gets 5-15mbs on 6t with hotspot paid for I have 7pro I use to try this with so I know speed I need

You are aware that after 50gb you get reprioritized right? Even grandfathered plans get this, you might live on an area that is not too congested but once there is more people on T-Mobile on your area and you go over the 50gb you'll notice it.
they say that but I've used 100gb and had no issues I have the international one plan. but you're right on most people I have 8-9 lines digits is 9th don't count. the offline sim apn database pro app if you make a system app you can access the dun only apn they block.in xml they had hide apn enabled I changed that also.any other ideas if you need a crash test dummy I'm a good one lol
found the the file you was talking about and also I remember the carrier name on lock screen has to go also for you to fully unlock tether with pcweb apn
So far for the last few days I've been getting use of my hotspot without the data being reflected on the TMobile website as hotspot data. All data I use reflects as regular unlimited data. The issue I've run across so far is when traveling, it can revert back to original settings when changing towers, but only sometimes. At home on the same tower, no issues so far.
I did a couple of things to get unlimited hotspot. First I downloaded TTL Editor and set value on all interfaces to 65. Then I added a new APN with the settings in the screenshot. As soon as I saved it, all the regular TMobile APN's disappeared and only the one I added stayed. I have downloaded about 5gb of data through hotspot and so far no hotspot data showing up.
I have a TMobile OnePlus 6t on the TMobile network, converted to international. I hope this works for you. Please don't forget, changing towers SOMETIMES reverts back to old APN. I got back by rebooting and the APN I created showed up again. Also I don't know if everything I did is needed, I stopped when I realized hotspot data was being counted as regular data.
As far as speeds go, I get about 40 Mbs vs the 50-60 I normally get.
You must be rooted to do this.
I thought this thread was dead glad we are still working on this the database global tether_offload_disabled0 needs to be there I'm just trying to help and apn fast you have caps think that matters also maybe wrong there's a little more to do I think https://source.android.com/devices/tech/connect/tethering-offload
Using my mobile hotspot, so far I have binge watched on Hulu, and downloaded a bunch of things on various devices just to make sure I'm not missing something. So far, 4 days now, I have no hit to my mobile hotspot. The Caps was a typo, but since it's working, I left it. I don't know, all I can say is try it. I don't have any tethering mods, only the Magisk modules listed.
I'm guessing that something about the way the APN is entered causes all the hidden TMobile APN stuff to be muted. All the TMobile APN's disappear when this one is active.
Okay, out in town today and this APN method doesn't work in town. I had to revert to T-Mobile default to get reliable data. It only works great when I'm at home. I am rural and TMobile and AT&T share a tower here, maybe that has something to do with why it works at home, but not in town. So this might work for some people, but definitely not all.
