P30 Pro stuck on old firmware 9.1.0.108(SP2), help! - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi all,
Had a few issues with the Huawei UK repair centre and as a resolution they've sent me a new P30 Pro. This one is a European L29 model but it's firmware is very old, 9.1.0.108(SP2) with February patch.
When checking for updates it says it is on the latest firmware, same when checking with Hisuite.
Do the usual methods of flashing firmware posted on here work with such an old firmware? I tried to download the .178 update but the mega link appears to be dead.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers.

Do I need a USB OTA adaptor for that method? I've just entered recovery mode and tried a full reset but still no updates.

No, eRecovery is just turning off the phone then holding power and volume up until the white screen appears, select recovery/restore and connect to your WiFi (Must be 2.4GHz)

Thanks, I only get four options:
Reboot system now
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Safe mode.

Took the plunge and flashed the 178 update, it worked and it downloaded 193 OTA.

[Q] Failed OTA update, where do I go from here

Please forgive the baby questions from an Android Newbie.
I used the phone to check for software updates, one was available - I believe from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2, I selected install the update, and now I just get a flashing android symbol.
I have tried to connect to Kies to do a recovery, but I cannot connect, afater a long "trying to connect" I am getting the message "device unresponsive please reboot", I have updated to the latest version of Kies, tried different cables and different ports.
I can reboot the phone into download mode but do not see any of the other options that are supposed to be available. Kies does not connect in either download or flashing Android symbol mode
Suggestions as to where I go from here are welcome.

Do a factory reset from recovery. Press vol up+home+power button
You're still safe if you still can see download mode.
If resetting doesn't help then download firmware from sammobile or from here http://www.officialrom.com/samsung/GT-N7000/ and flash through odin

P9 Dead after flashing rom. Please Help!

HI! I flashed by P9 AL00 with stock Rom. It was running on fRomFuture NewWorld 4.1. First I unrooted my phone. Flashed it with stock rom by SRK Tool. Put the update file in dload folder of the sdcard. Switched the phone off. Pressed all 3 buttons together. It started uploading. Once it got completed, it never turned on. I have tried all the ways to turn it on. Pressed Power button fore more than 30 mins, pressed Vol Up + Power, Vol Down + Power, All 3 buttons together, but nothing helped. Its just not switching on. Please Help.
Maybe it's not charged.
UPDATE:
adb is not recognising the device while fastboot does. This is my only hope now. Can I somehow retrieve my phone back by fastboot?

HiSuite cant halp you ? there is recovery option in it, try that first!
Tried it, it says "Your device is not supported for system recovery." In supporting devices it's showing only EVA-L09 and EVA-L019, whereas mine is EVA-L00

Can't enter recovery mode after installing TWRP

Hello everyone,
I bought a few days ago the Honor 5C and decided to root it. So I installed the TWRP (Nemo) using "fastboot", downloaded a ZIP of SuperSU and placed at the root of the internal storage. But when I try to enter recovery mode by using "adb reboot recovery" or by pressing the Volume Up + Power buttons, the phone vibrates, displays nothing for 2-3 seconds (not even a black screen, the screen is completely off). After that the "Honor" logo is dispayed for less than a second then the screen "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted [...] Your device is booting now..." with no option at all.
The problem is that this screen stays forever and never displays the recovery mode screen. If I entered this mode using the physical buttons, I can just press "Power" for a few seconds and then it reboots the phone normally. But if I used "adb", each reboot makes the phone entering again the same recovery mode that doesn't work, so I use the Volume Up + Power key while the phone is connected via USB to my laptop to enter e-recovery mode, then reboot normally.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem ? I really want to root my phone but I don't know what to do for now.
Thanks by advance for your answers !

Are you on EMUI 5 (Android Nougat) ? If so, official TWRP is not compatible with version > EMUI 4.x for now.
I'm using EMUI 5.0 / Android 7.0.
So now I've installed an incompatible TWRP can I just downgrade to EMUI 4.0 / Android 5.0 then flash it again and root my phone or should I reflash the original recovery before doing that ? I've read somewhere that updating a rooted phone could brick it so even if mine has just a TWRP and want to downgrade instead of upgrading I prefer to be sure.
Thanks by advance !

you need install original recovery and extract update.app from B100 firmware, then you place it to "dload" folder in your sd card and flash using 3 buttons. you cant full brick by messing with root. only soft brick which is fixable.
Ok I'll try it. I will post again if something comes wrong.
Thanks a lot for your help
I forgot to ask about one thing : I'm owning a phone with NEM-L51 model and I don't know if I can use NEM-L22 firmware ? If I can't, where can I find the right files to downgrade this specific model ? All the firmware files I see on the web are for the NEM-L22...
EDIT : I've found the B102 firmware for NEM-L51 model (Europe + UK) can I take it for the downgrade or is the B100 specific version needed ?

Thanks for your help but this doesn't work. When I do what you say it goes again and again to the same warning screen which never disappears. This is really strange, when I see videos I find on YouTube all Honor 5C owners that just do what you say enter in recovery mode, but it's not my case... I really wonder why.
I don't know if that can help you to understand, but I'm using a french Honor 5C phone, with EMUI 5.0 / Android Nougat like I said previously, model is NEM-L51 and I did the Android Nougat update several days ago using the Honor's official update application, which is natively installed on the phone.
About the firmwares, I've tried the B102 version for the specific model I own but each time (I downloaded the update ZIP several times, the first one with two folders named '1-main' and '2-vendor', the second with just the 'dload' files) the update stops at 5 purcents and says "Software install failed! Incompatibility with current version. Please download the correct update package."
What can I do to solve this problem ?

When you do Volume Up + Power it attemps to enter recovery mode, not recovery (that's what I read), excepted if a USB cable is plugged in (which is not my case). And that still doesn't work.
However, I'm able to enter erecovery mode by turning on the phone with only the Power button, then holding "Volume Up" as written on the screen (there are 3 boot options that shows up, but only when I boot normally) and I enter erecovery mode. But I can't do anything interesting in this mode, just download the latest firmware (which fails at each attempt, even when I'm connected to a working WiFi point), shutdown or reboot the phone normally.
Shoud I show you a video of when I boot my phone in normal mode / recovery mode / erecovery mode ?

The problem is that I can't enter recovery mode, each time I try to install an OTA or full update package from the /dload folder on the SD card it fails, so I can't downgrade at all. Do you know a link that sure points to the good update package version for the Honor 5C on EMUI 5.0 in order to downgrade to Marshmallow ? I've found several links during my searches but I don't know if the installation fails because of a phone's bug or if it fails because of an invalid version.
EDIT : I forgot to precise the long model name of my phone : NEM-L51C432B350. On Firmware Finder Rewrite it shows that there are only two update packages for it, published on 20.04.2017... So I wonder if I need to download the three files shown in the filelist of the big update (1.68 Gb) and install them on the device ?

Stock recovery wont have an option . There is no graphical UI for installation.
Downgrade or update is just a manual procedure.
In order to roll back , u need to install a roll back package and then the origional MM package . Using the three button combination

Ok so in the guide I found on the same page I linked in my previous post (the guide is hopefully written in english) it says that the phone must haven't been rooted or even unlocked, so I prefered to relock the bootloader (and completely reset my phone, for the third time at least in two days).
But then I realized I would need to have an unlocked bootloader for the flash so I unlocked it again, but now the device stucks on "Your device is booting now..." with no option at all whatever I do, whatever the buttons I push... I'll really start to think I'm simply idiot
I'm searching on how to solve this new problem and unbrick the phone... 'cause I can't even shutdown it, the "Volume Up + Power" combination while USB plugged in or anything else doesn't work this time.
EDIT : Okay so my phone seems to really be hard-bricked. My phone just stays at the screen "Your device is booting now..." with no option at all, I can't shutdown it, I can't enter recovery or erecovery mode. Does anyone know what to do or is my phone definitively bricked ?

To reboot into eRecovery follow this:
1. Turn off the phone
2. Insert the power cable and hold down the VOLUME+ button
3. After turning on, you can release it
4. When you're in the eRecovery menu, click on ''Download latest version and recovery" and connect to your Wi-Fi
5. Now it should start your firmware download and update.
6. THIS METHOD DOES NOT WIPE YOUR DATA FROM PHONE.
Goodluck on updating, m8.

Any hope for my softbricked P30 pro?

Hi all!
I got a softbricked P30 pro cheap from a friend, and was hoping to be able to fix it.
I started by flashing a Emui 9 firmware with OTG-method and it flashed succesfully, but still boot loop.
Did the same with a Emui 10 firmware but still no luck.
Now i cant get into download mode with Volume up + down combo (emui 9 method) OR Emui 10 method, it only goes to eRecovery with no option to read from OTG.
Using fastboot it appears that the phone is still on EMUI 9.
I have no more ideas now. Does anyone have an idea how i can proceed? Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, as it seems from your OP, you had EMUI 9.1 and then flashed EMUI 10, but with bootloop. You will need to download latest EMUI 10, enter eRecovery (as i will write you down) and flash the firmware.
It doesn't require a cable plugged in. ON EMUI 10 enter eRecovery by pressing POWER+VOLUME UP and keep them pressed untill you see Huawei on screen. Release the POWER button and keep pressing VOLUME UP untill you are in eRecovery menu, then release button. When in menu, select Update mode, then select Memory card/OTG update mode and it should start the update.

. You will have to try again as i wrote to enter eRecovery on EMUI 10, it has to work eventually, because it's the only way to make it work again, beside send it to Huawei center. Users who were in you position (had EMUI 9.1 and flashed another cust firmware and got softbricked then flashed again a wrong version of EMUI 10), helped them by providing the right firmware (in your case the one i've shared few posts earlier), then entered eRecovery by the method i've mentioned and then succesfully revived their units (there are a lot of posts in this forum with gratefull users that followed my methods).
So, try again and again (with the OTG connected) to enter eRecovery and at some point, it should work.
Also, try doing a Factory Reset from the menu that appear when doing the 3 buttons method and then try again entering eRecovery, who knows?
press POWER+VOLUME UP and keep them pressed untill you see Huawei on screen. Release the POWER button and keep pressing VOLUME UP untill you are in eRecovery menu, then release button. When in menu, select Update mode, then select Memory card/OTG update mode and it should start the update.

Keep me posted ?

Yeah, I'll keep trying. Thanks anyway for taking the time to help me out, much appreciated! Hopefully I can find a solution for this some day :good:

The only free way of reviving your device is by somehow manage to enter eRecovery and using dload firmware (ONLY FOR EMUI 10, using dload firmware from EMUI 9.1 won't help, because your Recovery is from EMUI 10 and downgrade is only possible using Hisuite and a working phone) to revive it.
Other option is to send it to Huawei Service Center, telling them it got softbricked whille updating from EMUI 9.1 to EMUI 10. Maybe it's something else rather a software problem and something on the motherboard (it's strange that using VOLUME + doesn't give you eRecovery).
Let me know how you got it revived :highfive:
