I recently did a factory reset on my android one model, and since then, I've been noticing that some apps and system sounds are defaulting to the default notification sound. For example, the low battery alert. I had to go in and manually change it to another sound (the original one is unavailable in the list). There are some apps that have their own notification sounds that I can select in the app, but even after doing that, still produce the default notification sound for an alert. Anyone with ideas on what might be going on?
Yes. The problem is it can't find it as it apparently did before. I get this if I change an SD card. I find if I go to sounds and check what things are set to I will find one or more of them are now numbers (to some previously unknown system sound. I think the solution is simply to, in Sounds, set each one (ring, notification, alarm) as if you are doing it anew. Hopefully that will fix it. If this doesn't fix things it may be that you are using a special sound on Sd card and a particular app may not have permission to access storage. Hope that helps.

I successfully rooted my NC and other than two issues, things seem to be fine. One of the issues is that the default notification sound has reverted to what sounds like an old, landline telephone ring. When ever I get an email, content the NC to my computer, or anything else that triggers a notification, it "rings". I've looked in the system/media/audio/notifications folder, and all of the notifications are in there and have the proper permissions. I've also tried recopying the whole notifications folder from the B&N 1.0.1 manual update zip and clearing the cache, but still the problem persists. Furthermore, I've played all the OGG files in the notifications folder, and I can't even find one that sounds like what I am hearing, so where is this sound coming from, and how can I restore the default one?
I wish I could at least figure out where this notification sound file is, so I could overwrite it...
Hi there,
take a look here. It should help you with your situation.

Thanks for the reply. I saw that already, but the OnTheHunt.ogg file is not the sound my Nook is making. The sound my Nook makes is literally like an early model cell phone ring. I notice it most when connecting to my computer to transfer files (so presumably the USB Mode notification sound). It is also plays as the "Default Ringtone" sound available under GMail notification sound settings.
Messed up default notification sound
I think I have the same problem, and it is annoying. The default sound resembles some kind of digital alarm clock sound (or as you put it, an old cell phone). It happens most prominently when connecting or disconnecting the USB cable, but also if you leave the default notification in Gmail.
I've tried pulling all the sound files via ADB and none of them match, and also tried programmatically setting the default to a specific sound via RingtoneManager.setActualDefaultRingtoneUri() in a stupid test app, which changes nothing. Very perplexing.
Take a listen to the attached recording and see if it is the same sound.
notification sound
Did anyone ever figure this out?
I was trying to enable ADB on my nook color and in the process I also seemed to have 'lost' my usual notification sound and ended up with this annoying ring! Anybody found a solution?
Hello everyone, I'm new to XDA, and also new to Android, I've got my note since a few weeks.
I got some questions/problems, and I hope that we can solve them.
1. Skype
1a When video chatting over Skype, I only see myself just for a few seconds, and then the screen (Not the actual screen, but the small window that shows you) goes black. Is this normal? Or is there a way to fix this.
1b When video chatting with someone, the person can't hear me, is this normal(No the mic. isn't on mute) or do I need to use the/a headset. That would be weird since the phone has his own mic.
2. Wifi
When connected to a wireless network you can still see that the phone is scanning for wireless networks, I find that quite useless, since you're already connected to one. Is there a way to turn it off(the searching) I think that it might actually save some battery.
(What I'm talking about happens at: Settings > Wireless and Network > Wifi settings> In the "Wifi networks" bar it says scanning every second or so.
3. Poweramp(purchased)
3a I purchased a 32 GB SDHC card class 10 card from Samsung and I used it for some days, until I found out that we can also use a 64GB card, so I bought that one. But now the thing is that when I browse my music through Poweramp I still see the files that were on my 32GB card.(But of course they won't play.) When I create a playlist, these "Ghost" files are also included, and when a "ghost" file is about to play Poweramp gives me an error that the folder can't be found and then Poweramp stops playing.
3b Sometimes a song plays and suddenly Poweramp skips to another song without the previous song reaching it's end. This ALSO happens when the screen is OFF. Anyone else got this issue?
I got some other minor problems but I can live with those, so I won't mention them.
Thanks for the help.
Some additional info:
Rooted: Yes

Edit 1:
4. Ringtones
Is there a way to get custom ringtones per contact without installing additional programs?
At the moment I got RingoLite, but sometimes it just resets the contacts ringtone to default.
I'd prefer to set custom ringtones without additional programs of course.
I did look on Google for an answer, but I only found a way to do it at older Android versions.
Contacts > select the specific contact, then options, but there is no such thing anymore. Unless I'm just blind...
Edit 2:
5. Customizing
Since yesterday I got ICS stock, I was able to get it with the help of Check Fus.
Now that I have ICS I decided to root my phone. I used this topic to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647148
Now I want to do some more customizations, like change the battery indicator in the status bar. I found out that I can do that and many other thing with
UOT Kitchen. But I'm a bit stuck using UOT Kitchen. I have chosen all the mods at the Kitchen website, but at "File upload", I don't know what files I should upload, since it only says what files to upload when you have
Froyo/Gingerbread. So now that I have ICS will this even work? And if it does. What files do I have to upload?
The other question is: at some mods you have to choose screen size, which one do I have to choose for the Note?
At "File upload" (Kitchen website) I have chosen/left the "flashing folders for system files" on /system/framework and /system/app (For framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk) are these paths still correct for ICS?
@ Status bar mod, what screen size do I have to choose and does the transparency work in ICS (Even though it says Gingerbread only) .
I guess that's for it now, I will edit if I forgot a question.
1. skype
it sounds like you have either limited bandwidth or struggling to maintain a connection... yes you should see your cam and yes folks should hear you without the use of headsets.
2. wifi
I am not sure how you are verifying your statement?. If you are looking at settings>wireless>wifi settings, the Note will obviously scan while it is on this page.. I suspect that it does not do so otherwise while a connection is active.
3. Poweramp.
I do not have poweramp, but you should be able to go into settings>applications>running services and clear the data/cache for poweramp.
just open your contact and theres an option to assign a ringtone
Rfresh the library in power amp.. This should solve the problem.

Uhm I really don't see it.
When I select a contact, and I go to the options, I see: Edit, Delete, send name card edd to reject list, print name card.
I was able to fix the Ghost files issue in Poweramp by removing the sd card. And then deleting the Ghost files.
It surprised me that I never thought of that before.
contact>contact name>ringtone> select from default, ringtone or my files.
remember to hit thanks for post that help you out..

Aaah now I see...
Now I know why I didn't saw it. The options only show up for some reason if the person also have Skype.
The contacts that I want to give another ringtone, don't have Skype, so those options don't show up.
Bump, added another question in the first post.
And bump once again
Having a slight issue which is a little frustrating. I've a search through the forum and can't find an answer.
I have a couple of custom ringtones on my SDCard in .ogg format. Every time I reboot my phone I have to reset the ringtone and notification sounds back to my custom versions. Otherwise it states 'Unknown Sound' and remains silent when a call or message comes in.
I realise this might be a consequence of running a custom ROM. But if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Would using RootExplorer with root permission be able to move the problematic sound files to /System/Media/Audio/ without issue? Or will cause further problems?
Okay, so I moved them anyway to the path above. Assuming that these would be refreshed to the cache before the Sdcard has been scanned. Initially I had the same problem 'Unknown Sound' and none of my ringtones to be found.
Then after about five minutes or so I checked the sound settings again and my custom ringtones appeared. Although I still have to reselect after reboot.
I'm not sure how but on the third reboot having selected my ringtone and having moved to the System folder they seem to have been cached and they appear along with CyanTone etc like they've always been there.
Is this a workaround I will always have to use when creating ringtones? Or am I being a complete noob?
Hi to all...
After having a great upset about the hangs that occurs when managing ringtones or notificacion, and reading lot of posts with no help I decided to post the way I fix my issue with the android.process.media error.
It seems that it's caused by an error when this process tries to access to the media stored in the device just for a ringtone, a sound of the camera shutter or the sound of a whatsapp notification.
My S4 is in Spanish, hope to make myself understand.
What I did was, going to Settings/More/App Administration/Swipe to ALL/ and search for "Media Storage". Entered and push button "Erase". This way you erase all data about ringtones, notification tones, etc. REBOOT.
Then, you must download from Internet the Default S4 Ringtones (Google knows) and place them in /sdcard/media/audio and Reboot again.
At least it worked for me. Thought I had to restore to default and it really pissed me off.
Thanks.
Good evening all!
I was going through an old hard drive of mine and found some sound sets I did a few years back - these were to be used for notifications, alarms, and ringtones. I made the 'sets' so I didn't have to dump a load of files in at once, and have to dredge through when picking sounds to use.
Now I haven't done this in a while, but I do remember that you had to drop the different audio files into the relevant folders. So-
Notification sounds:
/Notifications or
/Media/Audio/Notifications or
/Media/Notifications
Ringtone sounds:
/Ringtones or
/Media/Audio/Ringtones or
/Media/Ringtones
Alarms:
/Alarms or
/Media/Audio/Alarms or
/Media/Alarms
So i tried this, and used all three locations, one at at time with no luck. I even renamed the folders so that they were all lowercase, just to try and nothing changed.
So my issue is this - when I have the files in place and go to the Sound settings to change ringtone, it lists all the alarm sounds too. If I go to change notifications however, it correctly only lists notification sounds. The same is true if I try and change the alarm sound in the clock app - it lists all the ringtones as well as alarms. This is not desired behaviour (for me anyway) and I certainly don't remember it being this way last time I had custom sounds. Is this a change that occurred in recent Android versions?
I say this as I have a Oneplus also, and doing the same on that is actually worse - when you go to choose a sound, it gives an option for local storage, so I excitedly tapped on that and....it listed everything including music tracks I had on the phone. Had it opened a file manager and allowed me to go to the relevant folder THEN list the files, I could have lived with that. But neither device allows that, and the Oneplus adds insult to injury by listing other media too.
Does anyone know of any third party app that will allow you to change sounds, but when you tap the relevant type, it then lists ONLY the files of that type? So when you tap to change alarm sound, it lists ONLY alarm sounds etc (as in it lists only files found in the Alarm folders). Or is there something else I should do to get it to work the way I want it to? Or, most likely, am I stuck with having to have alarms and ringtones lumped together? If thats the case, why even have the separate folders in the first place?
If that is the case, I may even try and write an application to do what I need, as it should be a fairly straightforward first app (I hope). I look forward to any info that can be provided regarding this....thanks. :fingers-crossed:
