Anyone test there data speeds on this phone? WiFi is super fast but my data isn't like it was on my iPhone. Been pulling like 5mbps on T-Mobile normally average 30-100 depending on time and location. I also don't see LTE on the phone just 4G. Im gonna swap back to iPhone and run test and then this phone to see what's up. I don't see anything one setting a out LTE either.

Are there missing bands that T-Mobile would require that I'm missing?

Does anyone have some major data speed issues with this phone?
I live in Boston and most days I can't get higher than 0.05-0.1 Mbp/s download... sometimes it'll kick up to 1.5 or 2Mbp/s, which is still significantly lower than T-Mobile's theoretical HSPA+ speeds.
I just don't get it. I've had the phone swapped, new SIM card, factory reset. Cannot figure it out. My roommate has a G2 and his phone works fine, could it be that WP7 has a poor wireless stack or something?

I live in India and here its because of poor data connections that the speed fluctuates...but that said, in one particular place the connection is pretty fast...i was on Vodafone website and I checked if the phone is 3G enabled..it is but they had a small footnote about the speed...if u can, go to the Vodafone India website, select your state as Mumbai and check for device compatibility, u might find something worthwhile...hope that helped...
how do you check your data speed?

I usually use 2 speed tests, DSLReport's one and the Bandwidth app.
You can tell it's going really slow though because it takes 15-20 seconds to load Google occasionally.
Oddly enough, I've disabled 3G before and the EDGE data was actually faster. Scary.
Having slight issues with my note on vodafone Uk, whenever I try to browse the internet and the 3g sign in status bar shows weboages don't load at all, when the H is showing bam they load really fast, and even when the E is showing they load but slowly, which is to be expected with edge. So why wouldn't it be loading when on 3g? Have I got some setting wrong on the phone?
HSDPA is faster than 3G.
3G (3rd Generation of Telecommunication Standards) is a standard of cellular connectivity which allows for speeds of up to 384 Kb/s downstream and 64 Kb/s upstream. 3G HSDPA is a 3G enhancement. HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) is a new mobile data protocol and is sometimes referred to as a 3.5G. Theoretically, HSDPA speeds can reach 3.6 Mbps downstream and 348 Kbps upstream. But the purpose of putting both on a smartphones is to make sure that your phone get internet access even when the other one is not available or have no access
possibly an issue with vodafone, have you contacted them to see if there are any issues?
as for the above post, totally irrelevant and hsdpa wil lgo alot faster than 3.6

Yeah they seems to think my sim card needed resetting, but hasn't made a difference, still does it. Hopefully someone has the same issues with a work around searched the net for hours, with not effect. The other weird thing is if its stuck on 3g and not loading I usually disable data on power button menu then er enable and H usually comes back and it works again, even if I turn it to GSM only in network setting, so Edge is only possible it works fine also just takes ages to load any pages which is annoying!
how long you had the sim card? it might be a provisioning issue with it
You think? Well I've had it a few years now like, 3 I think.
Vodafone SIM card works fine in my Note (SIM free from Germany).
I'd suggest try your SIM card with a different phone and try a different SIM card in your Note if possible to see if the fault is with your SIM card or Note.
P.S. Are you using any custom ROM? Could be a problem there.
No I'm on stock rom kka, yeah sure its something today with network or sim card, just rang them to get a new similar. Hopefully that will sort it out.
.
Fixed my issue, turns out it was happening a lot with people who have the galaxy s2, needed to enter code *#301279#, and release 5 hspa only, then disable fast dormancy mode on the phone, now I'm getting fast 3g everywhere :-D
It does say 3g and not just g?
if youre in the uk and only getting edge or gprs it may not be the phones fault.
I had a similar issue, we all assume we can get full 3G everywhere, not necessarily.
To solve this you need to buy the Vodafone sure signal box, it basically plugs into your home broadband router and then transmits full 3g around your house to whatever numbers you register on the box, including dongles.
The whole family can use it as you can register 32 numbers into it.
Cost about £50 new, i have a BNIB never been used or taken out of the box new one here, up for sale as it happens for £25.
Anyone interested should PM me....
Or you could just use wifi as you are at home anyway.
As I said sorted the issue it had something to do with the phone locking into search for hspa, and not reverting back to 3g when there wasn't any hspa signal. Apparently its a problem Samsung are working on. But the little fix of only scanning for 3g works for now, and I did a bandwidth test on hepatitis, and 3g, and 3g was actually faster. So not bothered.
Great find bud u should start another thread explaining the steps in a guide cause this is great info for Vodafone UK users

Here in Wichita, we finally got LTE, so when I got my HTC One, I was thrilled. Sure enough, on any given day, I get anywhere from 5MB to 15MB speed on 4G. On 3G though, even with full bars, I average between .05MB to sometimes all the way up to .5MB speed. Those speeds aren't new, and have nothing to do with my One. Had the same results on my old Evo3D, and E4GT. My question really is, is there some way that I can force the phone to prefer 4G instead of 3G? If my 3G signal is stronger, it uses that, even though the speeds are absolutely terrible.
I have gone in and changed the priority, but through the normal options, the only real choices I have are either Auto, or CDMA/LTE. I have used both options, and see no difference in behavior. Using the dialer menu, I can change it to LTE Only, but of course that makes it so I can't get phone calls.
I really wish there was a toggle to specify which network I want to run on. As it is, if it won't switch to 4G, my workaround is to turn the mobile data off through the toggle, wait a few seconds and turn it back on, then cross my fingers that it will choose to connect to the 4G network.

*#*#4636#*#* and go to Phone Information. There you can set the radio mode. You can set it to LTE,CDMA. That will force LTE and give you 1X for voice calls, but if the LTE signal isn't strong enough it drops to 1X and not EVDO (3G).
I will give it a try now that I am on 4.3. I did that on 4.1 not long after release, and it did force 4g, but it prevented me from getting voice calls. I called my number from another phone, while I was just sitting at my home screen with no apps open, and the call never came through. Tried it multiple times from two areas of town to make sure. Anyway, it is worth trying again. Thanks.

my phone just does not seem to like edge.
98 times out of 100 I never get any data when on edge.
any reason why?
anything I can do to improve it?
Thanks
pay no attention to sig.
since you posted here i assume you have an S3 4G.... your phone has 4G speeds and you wonder why you don't have edge speeds? that is old tech...your phone has data connection on EDGE....but it's very very slow and i think you never waited for page to load...or app.... your mobile operator gives a high priority to the 4g and H connections....they don't care about 2g connections cause no one uses them..
i could say something but you might get offended...so i'll shut up.

There's no 4G in my area or anywhere near.
When I turn my data on there's only Edge available.
This makes absolutely no sense to me, Why would you remove something that takes stress off your lines and splits it bringing benifet to both your costumers ((faster download speeds)) and carrier ((less stress by splitting up data to hardline connections)). Hope Root comes soon, so I can get my Fully functional S6 rather than US Carrier ATT Gimped s6.

If i understand DL booster correctly. It uses your Wifi and LTE together to DL something. Meaning you would have to be on Wifi to use it.
So if this is correct it would put more strain on the ATT network because even when on wifi you would still be using LTE.
Also i can see a lot of people who dont know what DL booster is log on to wifi to DL something so that they dont use all their data and then use all their data anyway.
To me DL Booster seems dumb. most WIFI networks are plenty fast to DL something without the help of LTE.

They would use some data not as much if they used Lte in of its self. Its about speed of downloading your not splitting you downloading faster by adding Lte data 300Mb/s to whatever speed the wifi usuall 1500 Mb/s. Its not much but still a boost in speed and considering a 1 MB webpage getting it a few seconds faster or game downloads shaving 1/5 the time off approximately. I guess overall does increase stress among smart people that know to use wifi when in Wifi area.
Basically as savings per 1800 Mb downloaded Just Lte 1800 Mb towards your bill (( Slowest download speed). Lte+wifi 300 Mb toward your bill ((fastest over all download speed)) all Wifi, 0 towards your bill. ((second fastest)) Basically though if you are in a wifi area your a retard for not turning it on. and theres a use for comboing it up.
But looking back at it annalytically it doesn't seem that much of a loss In max download speed.
But its still annoying the way ATT takes features out of phones and just hides from the fact like simple Teathering and Att was like Nope Lock that down.
Because they're pricks. This is pretty well-known already.
Is there a way to enable this with root or custom Rom?

Yes it is possible to enable this however i don't believe even if it is enabled it will work b/c ATT software will not allow it. I have it on mine and notice no difference at all. shame
