I have been using the Nova Launcher, Prime, for years. I have set this as my default launcher. However, every time I reboot the phone, it reverts back to the Pixel Launcher. I re-set Nova as default. Sometimes it goes right back to Pixel until I go back into setting to set Nova as default, once again. This time it holds.
Is there another way to force Nova as the default launcher, even after a reboot??

Try phone settings, apps, default, set Nova as home launcher. Sticks for me even after a reboot. Don't do it from the Nova settings

Weird. Just restarted the phone to test and it sticks.
Sorry not sure what else it could be
I've had this happen as well I think it's if you try to use the launcher before it completely boots up. What I mean is I turn my phone on and as soon as it shows my home screen I try to go to the app tray. It then reverts to pixel launcher. I guess Nova needs to push out an update which I am sure will be coming.

Also to be sure and check that you allow Nova to modify system settings. :good:

I have disabled Facebook home and uninstalled it. I have the Android default home and ADW Launcher. Every boot it asks me which launcher to go to. Each time I select ADW Launcher and then press Always. But every boot the defaults seem to be reset. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the First or with Jellybean.

Do you have S-Off? The only reason I can think of that would cause it to do so is if you don't have S-Off. When you uninstall Facebook Home, it will reinstall itself as the default home upon rebooting the device because of S-On. So if you don't have nor want S-Off, I'd recommend simply turning off Facebook Home in the Home Settings rather than uninstalling it.

Although I don't see it, is there a way to remove the date and Google search box on the bottom of my pixel 4 xl homescreen? I have Nova launcher to deal with the issue but for some reason it's not staying as my primary home replacement. I set it to "always" and every reboot it defaults back to the pixel launcher. Other than those two gripes I love this phone compared to my note 8 I had for two years lol. Thank you all in advance for your help with my questions and have a great day/night.

Are you rooted, and, do you have Nova allowed to modify system settings?

Go to settings/apps/default. Set Nova as your default there.

That doesn't fix the issue. After a reboot you need to go into Nova settings and select Nova as the default launcher for it to stick.
I did have it set for my default launcher but as the first person said I needed make it modify system settings for it to automatically boot with the phone. A few seconds after boot it clicks over to Nova. Ty for your help. I just thought I'd already done that when I installed the launcher, guess not lol. They should have a pop up when installing to tell you to do that in the first place. Just so goobers like me don't come on here and waste people's time asking the question lol.
Ugh nevermind....it went back to pixel launcher. I guess I won't be able to use Nova anymore

Yeah I set it as default in the apps section too and also in Nova. When I swipe up to get out of xda it defaults back to pixel launcher again.

It's because of gesture navigation. Compatibility will come eventually.

Strange, once I set it in Nova it sticks until I reboot.
Edit: I do have 3 button navigation enabled but I'm using a Magisk module to disable them and I'm using Vivid N.G.
I have Nova set with Google Gestures enabled. Nova sticks. Gestures work. Stock. No root.
Just to put the thread to rest, I enabled three button navigation and it works perfectly. I like gestures more so im gonna keep it installed but using pixel launcher and just hope they can get support for it soon

They specifically say it's not compatible in the Now Settings.
https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq/gesture-navigation
Update:
Actually I tried it myself and Nova does stick even after restart. Not sure what the OP is doing differently.

Ya I don't know. All I know is that it does and can work even with gestures. I had that disclaimer saying it's not compatible. I'm using gestures and they work like stock Pixel launcher.
Now I am using Nova Beta version. Not sure if that makes a difference?

I have Nova also and it never goes back to Pixel Launcher. I have gestures enabled, so those work, plus set tap and 2 finger tap to turn the screen on and off and 2 finger swipe down to open App Drawer. No issues

Yeah the disclaimer went went after setting as default. I haven't used Nova in a long time but my paid Nova Prime still works and it stick with the non-Beta.
Unless there's a setting for it, It's not quite the same as the Pixel Launcher though as there's no suggested app or app drawer while in the recent app view.

I don't know what happened, I was going to pair my smart watch (non-samsung) to my S21 Ultra but it wouldn't, so I rebooted the phone, and it rebooted with the One UI launcher instead of Nova Launcher, so I switched back to Nova, checked the default setting in Nova settings and it was still set to Nova as the default, when trying to leave the Nova settings, it again returned to One UI home, so I checked in settings for default apps, and Nova is still set to the default. So I tried force stopping One UI home, and return home, and again, it opens One UI home, it will not open Nova anymore.
I tried rebooting again, and oddly enough, Nova was the default launcher again. Figured it was just a glitch so I went on with my day and it just happened again but I haven't touched anything, it was on my desk all day untouched and when I picked it up, One UI launcher again.
Now, no matter how many times I reboot, it will always pick the One UI launcher, but the weird thing is when I'm in Nova, I can't swipe to go home because it's already on the default launcher, but when in an app, I swipe to go home and it goes to One UI home, and swiping to go home does nothing within that launcher as well.
So some how, not sure what happened, but the phone is using both launchers at the default now and there's no way to stop One UI from opening.
I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, or if there's a fix for it, but would removing One UI with ADB (if possible) cause issues? Like if I force remove this with ADB will the phone even boot to a different default launcher if One UI home isn't there anymore?
I would do more testing but this is my daily driver so I don't wanna mess with it too much, but this is really annoying that it keeps defaulting to One UI home.
I was having the same issue at first. What I did to fix it was set OneUI as default, exit the menu. Go back into that menu and then change back to Nova Launcher. Reboot. It took a couple of tries repeating the same process, but it eventually sticks. I haven't had any issues since.
Also, side note. The Samsung widgets that aren't transparent, first set them up in OneUI with the settings you want them at. Then when you go back Nova Launcher, remove the the original and readd them. There is only 1 widget that I can't get to go transparent, Reminders.
Is anyone experiencing an issue where the default home launcher reverts to One Ui for no reason?
Also google discover being inconsistent in third party launchers?

Yep. Mine would even switch back after setting my default launcher to my custom one... But with that said, I also had so many other problems with every custom launcher that I had tried....so I just stuck with the stock, OneUI launcher (and I love Google News, so that's a good thing for me lol).

Yea I really like Google discover, but hate the sideways scrolling on One UI menu. Currently my work around is Nova with a button for google

Ahh, gotcha. But wait, doesn't just about every launcher scroll sideways between pages and then allow you to swipe up to view all apps?

Yea but they all either a) keep reverting to One UI for no reason, or the discover page stops working until you restart the phone

Hey guys,
So I just got myself a Vivo X Fold and I'm loving it. The OS feels so good but I was wondering if there was a way to change the icons ? Or even the launcher ? I can install other launchers but somehow can't find a way to set it to default. When I go back home it's still the stock launcher. I wouldn't mind it if I could change the icons but yeah.
Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks and have a nice day.
no and no.. no need to thank me, follow me for more tips.
This option only appears if you have created and signed into your Vivo account:
Go to Settings / Privacy / More Security Settings and toggle "allow alternative launcher". Make sure you go into the privileges for the new launcher and set it to autostart and go into battery and set it for high battery usage.
Hi, i just tried to do that with the launcher, what frcraig said, and it still goes back to the factory launcher. I created vivo account, logged in, allowed alternative launcher, set nova as default launcher and applied the battery savings settings, autostart, etc. Any other ideas?
actually i just went back in and unselected tap the home button to lock the system home screen and now it works!

Thanks a lot, it worked ! I can finally change my icons and launcher !
What alternative launchers out there support two separate screen layouts?
Or... like the stock Vivo launcher, show only one-half of the unfolded screen on the external one.

If I'm not mistaken the same place where the option to allow the launcher to be replaced is. It appears after you enable the first one.

Total Launcher is a good choice. Supports two separate home screens and you can customize everything...
