Poor battery life with SmoothROM and franco.

What am I doing wrong? I'm getting really bad results, 50% of battery used to last 3 hours of screen time for me but now it only lasts 2 and a half.. All to browse chrome.
I was expecting an increase in battery life..
I never dirty flashed, but I didn't really discharge it and charge again, I don't think that is needed?
What did I do wrong?
Give it a run for 2-3 days for the rom and kernel to work but dont expect so much improvements from it.

Bad Battery Issues

I'm experiencing some pretty poor battery life and can't seem to figure out what to do to make it any better. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Attached are screenshots detailing a typical day for me. Running stock 4.4.4 not rooted.
Need more details from the battery screen so we can we got often it's awake and what your service signal is over that time period. Also download better battery stats.
Here's a post about your top kernel wakelock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36736462&postcount=7049
Not really an issue.
And without root, you can view your app wakelocks, which make solving battery issues very difficult.
If you can't root, I suggest you start by turning location services completely off. Only use it when you need it, then off again. See if that helps. It's likely an app, or combination of apps... Especially social apps, exploiting location services.
Start there. And if you can root... We can see your app wakelocks and finding the issue could be far easier. ?

If your signal is ever low while on data, not WiFi... That can drop your battery level extremely quick.
I have been experiencing similar thing.. I'm at 19% now and 9hours 17 min. I am rooted running 4.4 has been declining for quite sometime..I also have noticed I've only had 2 bars at home..? Not an extremely have user but more than average.

Here's another example of a typical day for me that I took a while back. Anything look out of the ordinary? Didn't take a kernel wakelock one that day.
As I said, you need gsam root companion and then post times held awake and times waking device. Those are the important screens to see. And after a long discharge. A short time frame screen shot won't tell the story as well.
Without those we can only guess here.
Kj, I installed that app..I'm going to go threw the day, how do I post at the end of the day?

We're hijacking this thread.
Run from 100 to 10 or 15 percent left and take the screen shots in gsam. The main screen, and app screen and in app screen click the drop down and take shots of times waking device and held awake time.
No reboots or gsam resets.
Best to post tho in the battery thread in general. Or even the one in my signature. Just specify your device if you do that.
This thread is someone else's. ?
My moto x has been doing the same thing for the last two weeks or so. I'd burn through the battery down to about 10% in 10 hours with less than an hour of screen time.
Last night I decided not to plug my phone in to the charger when i got home. I used the phone throughout the night until i went to bed. The phone was literally stuck at 1% for about 25 minutes of use right before i went to bed. I woke up this morning and the phone was still on at 1%. It did die moments later. I think the battery stats are not calibrated correctly, but I'm not really sure. I'm going to try running it down to 0% a few times and see what happens.

I just want to help you in order to get good battery life..
These are the common mistakes that I made which causes battery drain-->
location on high accuracy, full brightness, WiFi always on, sync always on, screentime out minimize to 5s in order to save battery, Data enabled & Bluetooth always on..
Above shown are examples which leads to battery drain ..I personally use greenify(non-root) to stop running apps in background.. I have seen significant change in battery life by using this type of apps
As I said, for most helpful battery tips, and help if anyone wants it.... Go here.... Posts 1 to 4 are the important ones...
[Battery Life Help] Troubleshoot battery issues here!
Just specify your device for help, if not an N5. ?
I generally do a factory reset every six months or so and that significantly increases battery life. Not as good as the first few months but that's too be expected with an aging device w/o a removable battery

Just wanted to update after having a similar problem and letting my phone go all the way down to zero and automatic shutdown.
I charged my phone at work today and did not pull it off the charger until around noon. After having similar stats as the OP today is a different story.
I'm at 12 hours with 41% left. 1 hour 7 minutes of screen time. For the last couple of weeks I was often down to 15% after 12 hours or less.
I've been the same..I just spent the 25 for sunshine to unlock my boot loader and flashed a new kernel..

the battery life

What really is up with Android phone and their battery life. This been bugging me for like forever and its 4:00 AM and i have to post.
Like my sister had s7 edge and just the general messenger apps IG, WhatsApp, telegram & Weechat. Rest are game for toddler. But all the time the phone been with her, her average SOT is like four hours and the BATTERY KEEPS ON DRAINING on Wi-Fi or Data and NEVER flats out. It only does when in airplane mode. Before you guys days uninstall the games, in the battery usage graph same with GSAMbattery, Android system is like up all the time. So it has to do with Android OS.
is Android really just like this? Do iPhones person better?
I have EXACTLY the same issue with my nexus 6 rooted. When my wifi is up, none stop drain and BBS doesn't show any unusual activity.
What going on guys?

With 4 hours screen on time that is about what you can expect. Mainly when using things like weechat which is notorious for uploading all it data over and over again to its servers in China. Then you have whatsapp which is done by facebook which are known for some of the worst coded apps for battery drain in the market.
Your biggest issue is the screen on time. $ hours is a bit ruff on a device. As the screen is the biggest thing to take up battery. Unlike the iphone which uses a less intense screen due to its lower quality res.

Bro, you should use an iPhone and see! It's much worse than Android. iPhone have less size batteries and you can hardly get through the entire day with one charge according to your usage. Although apple's implementation of background apps optimization is excellent, but still the battery life is less due to small batteries. I feel android is much better in terms of battery.

Totally agree.
You can add that android is still an open system which allows you to hard modify the system, apps behavior, etc.. So you can set your device especially for your daily use.
For example, the way I set my 2yo-phone gives me 8 to 10 hours SOT, which is faaaar from any Apple devices autonomy..

It's not especially the screen which tumble down the battery energy, not as much as touching it. Which will litterally eat your battery life..
So my question is, can the voice detection+voice commands be less energy-consuming than the touch-sensitive commands ? (while keeping an active detection)

No it's really mostly just the screen being on. You can test this by setting the device screen to never time out and let it sit. You will notice that it kills the battery.

If Weechat and Whatsapp were responsible for the drains, why don't they show up on battery usage as top drainers?
It's always Android System

That is generic which means apps system api or systems the app uses. Like say the LG tones app. It uses the system BT api and if it drains the battery then all you see is BT at the top.
After years of trial with all sorts of applications to kill apps, battery /juice saves, my ultimate solution on Samsung alpha, 1800amph only battery is conjuction of Greenify, follow up with SD Maid. Alternate day.

I'd say that you either have a battery that is past it's useful life, or you have some serious wakelocks going on. 2-2.5 hours SOT is awful. I bought my device used 9 months ago and can easily average 6-8 hours SOT over the course of 48 hours on battery (on stock 7.0 unrooted). I'm only now seeing a lower SOT with this current update to Google Play Services. And even now I still get 5-6 hours SOT in 48 hours.

I know the reason for my bad battery life. It's my signal. Signal here is spotty and if you leave town you lose signal all together. So my device spends most of the day looking for a stronger signal. SOT really doesn't mean much to me.

Yeah I normally keep late off. It doesn't help really. Signal is just too spotty. You can bounce between 2g,3g and lte in 5 min and never move. Then you have the times when the military blocks all GPS and unless you heard the announcement and turned GPS off that would also kill your battery. Then like I said once you leave town you have no signal for hundreds of miles.

How is 6-8 hours sot possible over 48 hours? I've tried different kernels, lineage/CyanogenMod, Pure Nexus, greenify, and even tried down clocking the CPU to 1.2 GHz or less at all times (shockingly, in normal use I couldn't tell the difference lol). Never got that much screen on time. I'm not even sure airplane mode would do that. My best was around 45 hours, but with about 3 hours of screen on time. And that was with the phone being less than 3 months old.
Currently I'm on stock Android, and getting 20 hours at best with 3 hours sot. At this point, I will say my battery is shot since it is a year old. But I'd love to see your settings and see if I could get close.

Here are screenshots of my battery use from March. 3 days with 6.5 hours SOT. I keep my screen at a relative 20% or so (lower at night). I have very strong signal (major city) And I use wifi about 65-70% of the time. I also actively moderate my screen touches (yes, they do indeed matter). I turn off NFC and I don't use BT. I also actively purge misbehaving apps (I refuse to install some, like Facebook) Other than this, I can't really say. Perhaps, I just lucked out and got a cherry of a system (with the exception of my headphone jack not working with mics...Grrr... and my camera's image stabilization Causing blur at certain shutter speeds)

[OP5] Battery life Thread

Let's make this the official battery life thread for the Oneplus 5, enjoy :good:
OnePlus 5 Battery Life Thread
Hi all,
I figure it would be useful to get a battery life thread going so we can see what type of performance we can get and also understand how people might be improving their battery performance.
I haven't done one full battery drain yet as I only got the phone yesterday. I will be doing that on this cycle to see how it performs. For reference I am at 90% after about 7 ½ hours having put down at 100% and not on the charger when I slept. I had 2% battery drain over night (slept maybe 6 ½ hours) and have 54 minutes SOT (light usage, just messaging, Twitter, slack, chrome etc) with the remaining 8%. I'm not sure how OP phones battery life reduce, I know LG always has a strong first 10% and then rapidly drops off for example.
In terms of setup, I am rooted and using Doze Settings Editor (GeraldRudi preset), Naptime, Leandroid (but I need to figure out if this is actually working). I am also using dark themes were possible as these are better for AMOLED screens. I've also tweaked kernel in EXKM but nothing major that would positively impact battery.
Just to follow up, I have completed my first full cycle and can report that I got just over 6 hours of SOT over about 33 hours.
I had a bit of Bluetooth and GPS but I do keep the screen brightness as low as possible which really does help battery life as well.
I have also included CPU frequencies for reference, I haven't made any governor tweaks but that would be something to look at or maybe wait for custom kernels which I'm sure would have different governors including EAS based ones.

Yeah I definitely think so. There has been a trend in recent years of reducing battery life IMO. I had easily 8 hours of SOT over two full days on my HTC One M8 when I first got it and each year it's just gotten worse to the point now where 6 hours is considered great but I'm not complaining, I will take that over other phones barely managing 4 to 5 hours SOT.
Very excited to see how far this phone can be optimised on battery life with custom ROMs and Kernels. Good days ahead
Make sure to post your results when you complete a full charge and what you've done battery savingwise to achieve that

The battery life in mine is awesome. 21 hours, on 4g/WiFi and 4:30 hours SOT on half battery.
Probably will last me more than 2 days with normal usage
I can get around 8 hours SOT with medium use and brightness set to low. I am mostly indoors and I am impressed. With the same usage on my OPO I got 3.5 hours SOT.
ElementalX and 4.5.2 is out and coming out very shortly so the game will change again battery life wise. There will be different kernels that will help or hinder battery life depending on how much they are geared that way or towards performance.

Now had my first Cycle. For that big screen it's more than good. In Comparison to Op5 and Nexus 6p you can see the difference Qhd on Nexus to FullHD on Op5 a day FullHD+ on Op5t. For all the people who want more Resolution inxmy opinion FullHD+ is best choice because it needs less battery and I can not see any Pixels on that great Samsung panels
I got 6 and 51 minutes SOT
24hrs later after first charge from yesterday.
6hrs SOT seems easy target from me. I Will try get some game play for heavy duty test in this weekend.
First full day of use, quite impressed!
I request the OP to edit his first post and tell the users to charge phone till 100% and let it discharge under 10% before posting SOTs without charging in between for the most accurate result.
I had the pleasure of using the OP5 before getting the OP5T and i feel OP5 battery drain was lesser as compared to the T. This is not to say that OP5T has a bad battery life but i was able to get 7.5-8 hrs on OP5 on moderate use with 5-8% remaining. On the T i get around 6-6.5 hrs which is decent. Maybe after a few cycles it might improve.
Awesome battery life guys
Typical usage day, 2.5 hours of YouTube and some video calls, chatting etc. OnePlus 3 I got 3 to 3.5 sot max (freedomOS and bluespark). WiFi and 4G.
I like this, never had even near 6 hours in any phone.
Happy but I think a custom rom will get more.
