Is this device still capable?! - Honor Note 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

I am searching for a large screen device which also affordable, I found that device , but I am afraid of Kirin 970 , and software, ..and this device is about 15 month old .. and what is the alternatives in the price segment ?!

I'm thinking of dropping mine for the new realme x2 Pro... Only thing I don't like is lack of memory card...so I'll just get the 128 or 256 version.

Honor Note 10 had 6,95 Super Amoled Screen.
Batterylife from Honor Note 10 with 5000 mah Battery is amazing.
Dualspeaker Sound from HN10 is great.
Kirin 970 is good enough for games.
Micro SD Card Support
No Lte Band 20
Price 300-320 Euro Cect Shop or Ebay
Ok Realme had better Cpu,better cam,NFC,In Screen Fingerprint...all Lte Bands for Europe
both have advantages and disadvantages
Price 399-499

But the huge advantage big honor 10 is the screen and also it has 128 gigs internal memory over realme x2 Pro and 8 think honor 10 note has NFC

The main concern of me again Honor Note 10 is the
Processor and the software

Processor is good enough.
with a little luck will also come android 10

I had the Honor Note 10 if it had NFC I forgot

i am looking on Gsm Arena Page and yes it have NFC

Yes the Note 10 does have NFC and it does work with Google pay somewhat. Because it is a Chinese only phone with a Chinese rom(firmware) finding a bank that works OK with Google pay is slim.
This, for me, is a big reason why I will be getting the realme. It has a European rom.
Don't get me wrong, the Note 10 is a fantastic phone and I will be keeping it as a back up.

Will it get any updates?!

I have been using a 512gb card for quite a while now and have had no issues at all...inserted it and it read it straight away... Though I did format the card using the phone just to be sure all was OK before I started copying stuff across to it.

This is the one I'm using..
As for the camera it's more than adequate for my needs. Taking a pic and sending through social media... That's it for me.
I didn't buy the phone for camera. I bought it for the huge screen and dual speakers for media watching.... Still more than happy with this phone. Have no urge to replace it.

I have the 6gb. But I believe to always get the best you can afford. So if your budget does allow, get the 8gb version. If not 6gb will be more than enough....

Update: winners chosen.
The (comparatively)small size. For the love of god everybody stop this large(-r) screen madness and making even bigger phones. I like to use my phone in one hand and this one is a welcome change, a bigger battery would have been welcome but sony has shown us that even on Android optimisation can do wonders so looking forward to that

I'm using the Lenovo a6010 plus and my favorite thing about the all new Honor 9 Lite is everything. I love just everything about this phone especially the much smaller and easy to hold display size.
Tall displays are all the rage right now, but the screen estate is not always used by people. However, if you are into eBook reading, then the extra space will make for a better reading experience. If the OS is well optimized, then the battery backup will prove to be decent. I hope there might be OEM plastic backs for those people who are accident prone
The design and display and camera is pretty dope IMHO and i actually like the emui and its based on oreo!!yeyyy!!!
And dat back!!?
Right now I'm using a zuk z2
Specs at this price
Quad Camera and Display
Brilliant Quad Cameras and Beautiful Display. These are usual features about which a normal person will care and this phone excels in both.
Oreo + EMUI (*o*)
Edit: I will buy it anyway.lol.
I'm using HTC Desire 620G and Samsung galaxy s duos 2. The design is pretty sleek and is made of glass and is reflective. I mean the looks are good. I'm really looking forward for the camera and it is a quad camera setup and also looking forward for software and kernel optimizations made by honor when compared to other kirin 659 chips. First budget 18:9 phone from honor so excited to check its quality.
I'm using Pixel 2 XL now and I'm looking forward to advanced quad-camera and awesome infinity display of Honor 9 lite. And of course the headphone jack. I really miss it on Pixel 2 XL
If I win this, I'll support the device by building custom ROMs for it

Really like the Size and display of the phone. The class finish of the front and back looks so gorgeous. And also out of the Box with Oreo is best out of the Best. It is having double tab to sleep and wake up features that every one asked for Kirin processor from Huawei. Worth for money.
Them cameras and stunning design!
Well, the minimal bezel is on trend and this is a boon as we have more screen to consume media or even use apps in split screen mode! But, the thing that excites me the most is dual front and rear camera and Honor promises a hardware level bokeh, so at this price range, it is a first I believe. Super psyched about those cameras. Also, a headphone jack! YAY! I'm using Lenovo Z2 plus now.
See basically right now using redmi 2 which 2-3 years old and for using oreo i have to flash custom roms from xda and developers have migrated to latest devices and with 1GB ram everyone knows how much it sucks
Can't take good selfies, imagine about those bouquet effect pictures with perfect background blur is a dream * I know google camera port is there but its for devices having oreo and 64 bit rom. Redmi 2 is having bugs in oreo to run camera firstly and secondly 64 bit oreo has not came
And battery its like charging and charging again and look wise is not good and display is old 720p display. And internal storage is 8 GB
With all that said i love the honor 9 lite coz its having all the features that my device is having very less
Awesome display,awesome looks,more battery,more ram,more internal storage too,better camera
I am using Moto g 2014.
I like the screen accept ratio of Honor9 Lite. It has beautiful look, efficient processor and excellent camera. Hope I will win
Hi, I'm using an Honor 8 right now, and I love it. What I'm looking forward the most in the Honor 9 Lite is the Dual Selfie cameras because I've liked the dual cameras on my Honor 8. Also, I want to try the 18:9 display, the screen on my current phone is good, and I would like to try the new aspect ratio. Finally and the most important, I want to try Oreo based EMUI 8, I'm really disappointed that my phone won't get EMUI 8 (based on what Honor India wrote), and because I want to try Project "Treble" (a HUGE thanks for @phhusson for his awesome work on "Treble", and also the EMUI camera port I want to try).
I like the 2160×1080 FHD+ screen with the 18:9 Aspect Ratio.
Time for Budget Level war between Honor and Xiaomi !
This is gonna be cool !
Honor 9 Lite, 4 Cameras, 4 Gigs of RAM, at that price! Seems to be a nice catch.
Huawei's on row of releasing high-end smartphones at low price!
Considering all the previous releases (7x,9,10), I guess this one's going to be a super-hit soon.
Like, now just when the crowd was going Whoa to dual cameras, here we have quad lenses! And that too front dual sensors.
Being a Lenovo's mid range (Vibe) smartphone user, I consider these specs to be that of a flagship. Mine powers a 3gig ram, 13MP cam(single lens tho ), 1.3 GHz of processor @ 13K!
A little drawback I feel is the battery. Hosting a very powerful spec, you'll need to have a long battery.
But, overall, it's a good deal for people trying to buy a new phone.
What I like about the Honor 9 Lite is the support given to the powerusers like me and many of us. Treble support and the growing quality of initiatiives make the mid-tier finally suitable for passionates, while additionally seeing such a quick implementation of fullscreen display makes it a thing to have quickly in own hands.
Chance to win for free on xda and the cameras I guess.

Note 9 or P20 Pro

Hi all i currently have a P20 Pro dual sim but i am bored with the current lack of roms etc and im think of selling and getting a Note 9.
Which is the best version (Snapdragon or Exynos) looks like Exynos after a quick look in the forum?
Buy a Snapdragon because he's a little bit faster and you will have better battery economy

get the exynos because there is a wider range of roms.
( dont think the guy that replied before me realises that)
plus only the n9600 snaldragon has the ability to be rooted the n960u and 960w are useless in that regards.
the exynos n960f /ds and n960n are the prefered devices for people that enjoy root.

Have them both P20 pro & Note 9
I'm not that interested in Unlocking or installing roms on these devices .
I have the P20 Pro 6gb/128gb in use for some months now and last week i bought the Note 9 8gb/512gb Exynos.
When i compare these 2 phones they are both verry good phones i can get used to using any of these as a daily driver .
The only thing that makes me a littlebit worry is the camera .
In my opinion the P20 pro takes better shots but the Note 9 takes better video ..
For now i'l keep them both .

Get the n9600. It is simply the faster phone.
The exynos may have more custom roms to choose from but since they're all based off stock, they're all pretty much the same. You really need only one rom with one dedicated developer and we have that with @Mentalmuso and WETA rom.

I didn't forget them. All aosp roms are pretty much the same these days too. I just upgraded from the Zuk Z2 plus and we had about 10 pie roms to choose from. All great, but you can pretty much close your eyes and choose one and be good.
As for gsi I've never used it but i understand it to be pure android? If so no thanks. Why would anybody flash that and give up all the features of the note 9? I guess that goes for aosp based roms too. It only made sense on stock boring android but never on Samsung. The loss far outweighs the gains.

the goal of rooting always was about choice..so selecting the device that can give you the wider range of choice would make sense in my opinion....
It's also worth noting that the Exynos version has a slightly better DAC compared to Snapdragon. Good to know if you want quality sound out of it.

Firstly, the note 9 dev section is actually quite lonely - only one kernel, few ROMs and that's all. Secondly, the snapdragon variant is A LOT better vs the exynos in every regard - better battery life, faster CPU in real world, ~30% faster GPU on average, smoother UI (less frame drops), faster emulation on emulators. It's the better variant to get by far.

This is not that true anymore, qualcomm really improved their own DAC in the last two generations. There are enough materials on the web about exynos 9810 - go read Andrei's articles (anandtech) how to improve exynos 9810 (part 1 and part 2). Also his article with direct comparison between the two note 9 variants in real world/real tests not antutu etc. - the snapdragon note 9 makes a joke of the exynos versions. The difference is like high tier midrange device vs the highest tier device. It's not even close and buying the midrange device just because you have two more ROMs that are the same (flashing AOSP on note is absurd as you will give up all the features, you are better of with s9, BUT even then there are compromises like camera quality/features) - is a mistake. Yes, I have the exynos note 9 and while OK, I perfectly well understand and see how mediocre the SOC is, even the sd 835 beats it in some cases and it shows in real world usage.
I am saying all that with warmth of heart towards fellow xda member that can choose between the two variants.

I know right. Choosing an inferior variant solely because it has more of the same rom to flash is beyond crazy. I guess it's true you can only lead a horse to water.

Mate 20 Pro users, will you be moviing to the "Google-less" Mate 30 Pro?

So it's that time of the year now. with the issues between US and Huawei,
Huawei has finally released its newest flagship Mate series smartphones at Germany. The Mate 20 and 20 Pro
the Mate 30 series comes with a new halo-ring camera design which comes with a circular shape that resembles a professional camera. It also has a new screen technology called the Horizon display which reaches up to 88-degree angle.

The Mate 30 phones are based on Android open source, meaning they will still function like Androids. What they won't have, though, is Google services or apps. No Google Maps, no Google Chrome and, most importantly, no Google Play Store.
Instead, you'll surf the web through the Huawei Browser and download apps through the Huawei AppGallery. The AppGallery has around 45,000 apps, according to Huawei, compared to the Google Play Store's estimated 2.7 million. Google typically licenses the latest version of Android, currently Android 10, for phone manufacturers to use. The Mate 30 phones will instead be powered by open-source Android and run EMUI 10, Huawei's user interface that approximates Google's Android 10.
This means Huawei will only be able to bring security updates to the Mate 30 phones when those updates hit open-source Android.

Personally, I'd keep mine and wait for a bootloader unlock code window to open again. I love my Mate 20 Pro.
but seeing the Mate 30/Pro running on AOSP looks
What's your take?
oops wrong sub-forum

YEah, I'm considering it, providing I can sideload what I need on the phone, eg play services and play store. If sideloading works and everything functions, then I'm in.
The specs and features on that beast is phenomenal. But I'll wait and see If we can unlock the bootloader. I need at least root. Lol
I'm not planning on moving to anything. Mate 20 Pro will still be a beast for a few years.
It's a nice phone, but a big no for me, I hate the trend with curved screens, I have problems with my mate 20 pro when using it with only one hand, imagine how many phantom presses you get if the screen is curved more.
Then also I'm rooted on my mate 20 pro, and I'm sure that there won't be any more unlock codes.
The missing Google services is nothing since you can install them yourself.
Yes, I will test it out and then move back to my note 9
I will wait until we have a solution/alternative for google playstore and make my move. I am happy with the Mate 20 pro but if I can upgrade the camera and display I am in!
No. Too big money for phone with uncertain future
I do not think I shall consider a phone ? that I have to improvise how do I backup my data and mainly pictures. It is so much easier with google than with Huawei backup. I love ❤ my mate 20 pro and without this problem I would go to the mate 30 pro without even looking at other phone ?.but no without google .
huawei is the only company that is doing a really tech on phones now.. I will buy mate 30 for sure.. dont care about google services.. because i will install them by my self
Unless able to unlock BL

Will get mate 30 Pro but around December, it will be more pocket friendly..

I know I can but it is not so convenient especially if you are abroad.
I do not think I should pay a premium price to compromise. There are a lot of other google app I am using that I shall not be able.
with bootloader locked.......... no way to buy it

You can't do this any more. Google shut the door. Manual installation of Google apps and services is not a option by now.
---------- Post added at 01:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:47 PM ----------
Certainly no Google - no buy whatever good the phone is. Huawei have to sort is out ASAP. Otherwise they can forget about smartphone business outside China for sure. I don't need a phone without Google. Even if a new Google services installation hack will be available, I won't be bothered to buy over $1k smartphone to mess with it and have a headache about Google problems.

unless there's a way to install gapps, I won't be upgrading downgrading.
combine this with the fact that Huawei isn't allowing unlocked bootloader, forget it.
I love the hardware, but the software and restrictions is unacceptable for a premium tier device.
I have the matte 20 pro and i love it.
Now i uptdate it to EMUI 11 and play store stopped working.
I thought in Matte 20 it would be working forever, what can i do?
Yes i tried all the alternatives in the internet, and nothing works.
PLEASE HELP ME!

Decided For the Pixel 4 - vs all the others (Samsung, Apple, and etc)

I am very excited. I really think it's a special phone, at least from a first glance. The phones that Samsung, Apple, LG, and others put out year after year are all.. carbon copies of one another. I always choose an outsider if I have the option for anything outside of the mainstream - you know, especially if everyone has it.
I had HTC m8 when Samsung ruled Android all alone. Than I opted for OnePlus when I broke my HTC.. because, why not right? Cheap, and as good as the twice as expensive ones.
Anyway!!
That was probably the main reason I decided to go with Pixel. On top of guarantee of getting new Android OS probably before anyone else, I also like the lack of a company skin, and bloatware. I mean root does take care of that but you shouldn't need to root to get rid of apps from a device that you OWN.
When I get it, hoping the order process goes without a hitch, I will write my first impressions here.

I didn't spend much time on the forum but from a few reviews I read.. it seems pretty mixed. Some hate it, others love it. Care to enlighten me, please?
Greatly appreciate any effort to that question..

The sound quality will blow you away.
Phone calls are clear and crisp, no complaints, people can hear me great too.
Small but pleasant surprises:
The vibrating motor has an interesting kick to it. It's hard to ignore.. (if you've used phones set to vibrate and still missed calls you didn't notice you'd understand what I mean)
I'm coming from a P30, so battery life in comparison is certainly an issue (or at least precieved to be an issue.)
To counteract this I ordered an iotie wireless charger for the car.
Face unlock: yes we all heard its bad, cause it doesn't require "attention" to unlock.
I don't have trust issues or major security requirements. However....
When you put this in the car holder... If it catches a glimpse of your face for even a second... The screen unlocks and stays open (very annoying) also if you have the screen off and it somehow gets a glimpse of your face... Screen unlocked... Now your fingers are doing all sorts of things on the phone that you don't want to happen.
Having said that.. We all know google will patch in the "attention" feature for face unlock. I'm not happy about the delay... But I can certainly wait.
Bottom line, could it have been better... Absolutely.... Do I have any regrets? No.
I'm very happy with my purchase. And I've had it since the 26th of October. So literally 1 week.
I love having a comparable screen to iPhone, gestures, and stock android. And the camera is better than I need it to be. (yup not a pro phone cam user.. I mostly take pics of my pets or business cards or important notes..) for anything else I have a dslr.
This is highly subjective... So I hope you'll be happy with it. And if not.. That's fine... Just return or sell and go with something that makes you happy =)

Very quickly, I am absolutely happy with my Pixel.
Face unlock, I really do think this is a storm in a tea cup. If your life leads you to worry about people sneaking in to your bedroom and presenting your phone to your face whilst you sleep... You have much more serious issue to deal with than the pixel's biometric supposed shortcomings.
More annoying is that it doesn't work with all those apps that I just got used to working with my fingerprint.
Don't understand about it opening when it catches sight of your face instantly? Mine doesn't, I have to press the power button before it activates? Probably something I've misunderstood. (Edit - I get it now actually. Soli wakes the phone up and then your face unlocks it. Doesn't seem to happen that often unintentionally though)
It does just work 100% of the time (so far at least) really, really quickly.
The battery. It is 19:05 here, the phone was charged up yesterday, I left it off the power overnight, to see how it would fare (it lost 8%) and I'm on 33%. I charged it fit approx 10 minutes in car earlier.
It could be better, but really it doesn't impact anywhere near as much as done would have you think.
The camera is simply brilliant.
Scrolling around is super smooth. Noticeably smoother than my old Huawei P20 Pro. To use some other company's tag line - it just works.
I agree with everybody else in that it does have it's shortcomings but overall I love the phone. I mainly like it because of the size. It just feels so much more comfortable in the hand vs larger form factor phones like the 4 XL. It's also a very unique phone in that it is the only small form factor phone with a 90hz display right now, every other phone that has a 90hz display is on the larger side.
Battery life is relatively bad compared to other phones, I'm getting about 4 hours of screen on time with light-medium usage, which includes youtube videos and scrolling through social media. It's not much of an issue for me though because I always charge my phone in my car and I always carry a portable charger with me.
I just can't get over that 90hz display, it's so smooth.

I don't agree putting LG with Samsung and Apple. In fac I can tell you that carbon copy is Apple and Pixel when it comes to main camera sensor module. They both share an Sony imx363 but assembled and with lenses from LG Innotek . So who's copying who? Apple has f1.8, pixel f1. 7 and lg the more advanced f1. 5 since lg v40 ThinQ. That's 1 year before.
Regarding photovideography my V50 kills both the iPhone and the pixel.

Design?
Just take a look at the V50 Korean model. Under glass most advanced and best on the planet triple camera system. LG has done it. Pixel apple and Samsung are dreaming.

LG's flagship devices are meh at best.
Camera? Can only take average at best in detail. f1.5 means nothing if image processing is mediocre.
Under glass camera? LG wasn't the first to do that and they can only do so because they are using smaller camera sensors (aka. for midrange)
Design? This is subjective. LG phones are always a clone of Samsung but look plain and boring.
There is no real character in their phones. Let's not talk about LG's hideous notch because it's not even funny to begin with.
Sound quality? They should thank HTC for being bankrupt, else, HTC will continue to dominate this space.
Videography? I am not a fan of iPhone but everyone will agree that they rule this piece even without pro mode.
Yeah, right. I'm telling you. LG V50 kills everything in both photos and videos.
Regarding design:
How about this? Got it since 04 December.
I've heard there are pixel 4 xl out there with like September and October security patch.
Intresting how times changes...
Regarding the camera aspect don't forget that LG Innotek makes them both for iPhone and Pixel. No way iPhone is taking better videos than V50. They're dreaming.
Ah. I forgot to mention I'm getting 10-12 hours SOT with my V50 4000mah.

Question No Xperia 10 IV forum on XDA?

Hi Guys,
Will there be an Xperia 10 IV forum on XDA? I have been using the phone about a month now, and keep checking here - but these is no such forum for the device on XDA.
Regards,
If it helps in any way, I rooted my 10 IV by following what this user did to their 1 IV.
I haven't installed a ton of modules though!
It won't be helpful, but I'm very tempted by this phone, so I wonder if you would have any feedback. In particular, is the camera ok ? Did you manage to install a working version of gcam ?

Yes I did! I tried out all of the versions found on the stable page, one or two would crash upon starting (can't remember which ones) but I settled for MSC's 8.1 apk since it had a toggle for ultrawide and option to use a third party gallery.
Here's two photos which are taken a few days apart (pre-root and post-root) - I can attest that the gCam is more color accurate based on my cat's fur, have to thank the Google AWB in the app for that

Though, the 8.1 apk is missing a normal x1 zoom toggle (only x0.6 and x2), will confirm in the future if I ever manage to get the time to try other versions again.
Thanks ! That's nice (almost as nice as your cat)
Did the gcam port work with the telephoto lens ? And more generally do you find the telephoto lens useful / of good quality ?

Thanks and yes! Out of the provided zoom toggles, I believe the x2 one uses the telephoto, so it has been my daily driver since rooting.
It's sufficiently sharp for my uses (in fact, the gCam photo above was taken using the telephoto). Here's two more shots I just took - one from 50cm, one from 20cm.
I do have to hold very still though! Of course, it's a telephoto, and that my room's not very well lit, but I expect it should work much easier in brighter situations.
Thanks for taking the time to share these pictures, this is really useful. Both pictures look quite sharp.
This xperia 10 iv seems to tick many boxes for me : reasonable size, good screen, great battery life, decent camera with telephoto... I'm still waiting to see the reviews of the Pixel 6a, but it's very tempting.

My pleasure! After my S9+ kicked the bucket, I was deciding between the 10 IV or the Pixel 5a as both had a headphone jack and a decent battery.
I ended up picking the 10 IV since it was newer, and that the battery seemed to last forever (which it does!).
You could also consider another upcoming alternative: the Zenfone 9. While the battery's smaller by 700 mAh and that there's no telephoto, it does seem very impressive for such a small package.
If modules are like on 10 iii, try whitelist 4th or 5th module in gcam settings, it's equivalent for 0th module.
Developer says he had to disable 0th module due to crashing on some sony phones.

Thanks for the tip, I tried this out on MSC's 8.1 and it actually revealed the normal camera! Well, I whitelisted both 4th and 5th modules, so x1.1 and x1.2 options appeared, but both appear to be at the same zoom level.
Does someone know if the 10 IV has fm tuner hardware inside? The app clearly is missing. Is it region dependent, meaning the radio functionality depends on the firmware, or region dependent meaning the hardware is different? Usually the fm tuner is part of the wifi/bt chip, which in this case it`s a qualcomm WCN3990, which the manufacturer states that it does have digital fm. Tried different radio aps(fm ones, not online), none worked, still don`t know what to think of this issue. Thanks!

Hi, I usually repair electronics in my free time, including fm transmitters, so yes, tried with the headphones plugged in . Also tried spirit radio and some other app I can`t remember right now, that are for this issue, not from play store, couldn`t find anything useful there. Still can`t tell if this phone has hardware for fm. To mention, I have not rooted the phone. Will wait & see . Other than this, nice battery time and pretty responsive device.
fyi - maybe we get a device section - at least I posted it here
I'm wondering does the 10 IV have any issues like it's predecessor (green/red tinted, flickering Screen)? Are there any other common issues.
Really considering buying it as the 10 III has these glaring display bugs unfortunately. But I wanna make sure the next phone I order isn't likely broken as well..
