Quick test of replacement LCD not giving results, can I get some help please?

My phone's screen died. The backlight to be precise. The touch works fine, and even the screen in fact if I look at it under bright light, shows information. I want to replace it. I went and bought a replacement. Opened up the unibody, unplugged the batter flex and the one below it.
My question is:
Can I just unplug my current screen's flex (display flex, top left corner) and plug in the replacement's flex, and check? Because when I do it, nothing happens. The screen doesn't come on, neither do the capacitive keys (they light up on the current display if connected). The touch works fine though and so do the keys (I can invoke Cortana etc using the search key for example)
I am wondering if the only thing that connects the display unit (touch plus LCD) to the main board is that single flex, or are there other contacts that are used when the phone is completely put together. Because the screens I've tested (several) didn't light up at all, just the touch worked.
This would really help because I could then buy a screen and finally get down to the complete required disassembly (which isn't that simple or easy) and rest assured before doing so that my replacement screen works.
A possible reason that the vendors I went to buy the LCD's from gave me was that this might be a version conflict. Though I feel the hardware for these phones is the same. And the only version conflict I have come across would result in the touch refusing to function. The screen would always work (eg Lumia 620 after Lumia Black update) My phone was bought from Saudi Arabia (EMEA) and I am currently and indefinitely in India where I'm trying to get a replacement LCD that works. This shouldn't be a factor though because my Lumia is the RM-937 (international variant) which is the same one you get here.
Any expert help on this would be really really helpful.
PS: I know I could post this in the Lumia 1520 forum, but I'm posting it here in hopes of getting a quick reply as I am sadly pressed for time with my only phone I use for everything including work, not having a working screen. Cortana is really my assistant as she is the only way I use my phone at the moment.

Double tap to wake broken after screen replacement

Hi all,
I had my screen replaced after it cracked when pushing the on/off button. My guess there was something stuck between the button and the screen. Since the screen can't handle any pressure from the side it made a nice clean crack right across the screen.
I had it replaced at the local phone repairshop for €219,-. Luckily my home insurance covered it. The store owner insured my the screen was original as the 8 Sirocco is so rare that there aren't any non-original screens around. I kinda want to believe him, but i'm not sure...
Anyways, my double tap to wake function isn't working any more after the repair. I used several sensor apps to see if one wasn't working properly anymore, but as far as i can see they are all in working order. I hoped that a factory reset would fix it, maybe a re-calibration of some sort, but it didn't...
Does anybody know how double tap to wake works? Is it embedded in the screen, is it via software? Maybe they installed a non-original screen that doesn't support this function? If i know how this function works then maybe i can track down the problem...
Any help would be great!

Is the always on display working?
Double tap to wake can work differently between handsets. The digitizer is kept on in a low power mode on devices that properly support DT2W, whereas most phones can implement a software version of it where the digitizer pretty much stays fully powered on, at all times. That drains battery, hardware support pretty much doesn't.
The Sirocco has proper hardware support, so I think it has to be digitizer DT2W support. Unfortunately that means possibly a dodgy screen. Did it work with the broken screen?
You can buy Sirocco replacement screens from China/Asia on Ebay for around £130. There may well be unbranded goods circling. I have a feeling you might need to return to the store and point out DT2W isn't working and it's likely digitizer related.
You are on Pie, correct?

Yes, i'm on Pie. I think they screwed me over with a dodgy screen indeed. A little search on google revealed you can buy them for €20,-.
It did work with the broken screen, so it has to be a dodgy digitizer. Thinking about calling the shop and see what their response is.
So, i just called them and they basically told me to go [email protected]%# myself... Warranty was only for the screen itself, and with that they mean cracks in the screen. Great service! Kinda bummed out, but it's only tap 2 wake, right? Installed WaveUp, which basically does the same, you just have to wave in front of the proximity switch. Will test if it drains the battery if not, that's kinda good for me...
Unfortunately Android kills the service, even when persistent notification is on. Ah well, will search for someting else...

The digitizer is part of the screen, it's not possible to replace the screen without replacing it.
They've put in a faulty screen. I'd contact your insurance provider and tell them the repair shop they've paid hasn't fixed the phone correctly.
edit: I might actually be wrong with the Sirocco. The LCD and Glass seem to be bonded, but the digitizer can be replaced separately. Either way, the phone hasn't actually been repaired fully, so I'd still contact your insurer.
Thnx for the info, i now know how the double tap to wake works. Unfortunately the insurance company don't care about that. They payed me the standard sum, didn't even want the bill. I have to proof the phone didn't fall and they pay me €250,- and that's it.

Have you gone back to them to advise the repair shop didn't fix the phone properly and what advice they can give?
Not sure what legal suggestions I can make for your country, in the UK I guess you would next look to trading standards/small claims court.
250 euros is more than enough for the repair shop to fix the phone and digitizer.
It would probably be a long story if i would go to court or something. I actually don't mind. Got enough other troubles in my life! :silly:
I can confirm I have the same issue on a Nokia 8 (not Sirocco) after screen replacement. I had the issue with the left half of the screen staying static all the time. The whole repair was a nightmare as the people who I bought the phone turned out to be cheap af. Whatever... I like the brand and the products but next will buy my phone from a reputable (comparebly big) store. Have a nice day!

[FIX] [REPAIR] XIAOMI Redmi Note 7 Proximity Sensor fix after screen replacement

So i replaced the screen glass and digitizer and watched a few YouTube videos of the teardown of the redmi note 7 and soon realized my proximity sensor didnt work after i changed the screen and screen frame . Upon further investigation i noticed most of the youtube videos DID NOT point out some of the extra hardware that needed to be changed as well and as a result my proximity sensor did not work. So if you have previously replaced parts on or repaired your XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 7 and notice a few things arent working here are few things that you may have forgotten to swap and replace. After i swapped the pieces over my proximity sensor worked again. Note that the blue tape is there to PREVENT DUST from hitting the sensor and glass, so only remove the tape when you are ready to replace.
I was wondering after the screen replacement, how is the latency on the edge of the screens? Can you compare it please? My phone is brand new but because of this latency i want to replace the screen and digitizer with non official one.
Hi. I'm exactly in this case. where did you buy the the extra hardware that needed to be changed?

Fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock not working after display change

Hello fellow users,
I have the Chinese version of the Reno, the PCAM00. One night I dropped the phone on the stairs, taking some real damage to the back panel and to the display. The LCD cracked, but the touch panel stayed in one piece . I replaced the screen by myself, I did a lot of screen replacements for other phones until now. Now I got this issue: the fingerprint sensor is not recognized anymore; I opened the phone again to be sure that I connected the under screen camera, all was in good order. After this re check, trying to set up at least one security check- except the password- because the phone is quite big and a 6 char password can be seen by near people, I tried to set up the face unlock. Still nothing, when I try to enroll a new face, the camera pops up and quickly retracts saying just "Sorry. Unable to enroll. Please retry." . The phone has this function, I enabled it in the past, but because is quite awkward to have the camera moving every time you unlock the phone, I disabled it.
Is it possible that the security functions are disabled by software? Have anyone encountered this issue? Is there a fix to it?
Note: I bought the display from aliexpress and the product description was "Original M&Sen 6.4" For Oppo Reno AMOLED LCD Display Screen+Touch Panel Screen Digitizer For OPPO Reno Display"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Display broken! Need some guidance ASAP

My K20 Pro's display was broken (completely black screen)
Authorized service center told me they charge Rs-9300/- (Indian rupees) for the screen replacement.
(7499 (Screen cost) + 1350 (GST) + 500 (Service charge) )
Will it work fine as normal if I change in authorized center.
If any one had similar experience please guide me.
Thanks in advance!
Yes it should work all fine. I change them my self on any phone and there is no confusion about it. You get replacement screen. What that meens is that is original display. The whole unit of the screen. Whole unit meens amoled display with glass. Touchscreen is not glass. The glass is only glass which is a protection of the whole unit. Touchscreen is build in in amoled as a layer which sits underneath polarizer. There is no confusion and no extra thought you should deal with. Just do it. If you can change your self then change your self.
