Just enabled it after messing around with cameras. Set my phone to lock on power button. Turn screen on, camera up, down, and unlocked so fast. I definitely expected it to be slower with the popup camera.
Fricken love this phone so much. So glad I upgraded from the 6t.

I really like this phone but there are a couple things that bother me:
1. On iOS, you can set it so that you slide to unlock then enter your passcode. If you hit the sleep/wake button and then hit it again, you slide to unlock but you don't have to put your passcode in for whatever amount of time you set it for (ex: 15 minutes). On Android, you just enter your passcode/pattern and then you can either have it just open without a lock screen for 15 minutes or you have to enter your pattern every time. I had it set to the former, but it kept turning on in my pocket, so I had to set it for the latter. This is really annoying, however, and I'm wondering if there is a way to make it work like iOS (perhaps a lock screen replacement, although I'd much prefer it to look stock and have support for widgets (ie, DashClock).
2. The first Moto X I had had really nice feeling haptic feedback (rumble when you type, etc.). I got it replaced and this new one has terrible haptic feedback. It just feels bad and makes me cringe every time I feel it. Is there a way to alter the haptic feedback? Some root app perhaps? I'd rather not return it again.
Thanks.
If you're only looking to alter the haptic feedback for the keyboard you can go into settings, language and input, click the settings on Google keyboard, scroll to the bottom and click advanced settings, and there should be an option the adjust the vibration duration. I'm not for sure if this is exactly what your looking for our not.

There should also be a setting in security that says 'power button instantly locks' toggle this. I see what you mean. You want the slide to unlock when you dont have to put in the pin. AFIK there is no solution. Others probably know more than I do about this.
Also it turning on in your pocket is a problem not just because of this but it will hurt your battery life. It is probably coming on because you have the shake to turn on the camera. If you turn that off it will probably make it stop.

It's not the shake for camera, because it never shows the camera when I take it out and the screen is on. Even with the security on, I caught it trying to make an emergency call, which indicates that the button is being pressed and then the screen is accepting presses.
Thanks for the haptic feedback tip. I tried it, but it made it incredibly loud, so that's a no go.
Just wondering if rooting fixes the touch screen issues? I know the update was supposed to help (it did a little) but I still get missed touches and lag.
I still seem to be getting about the same level of missed touches I was getting when the phone was brand new.
Antutu benchmarks are slightly better, from 47,900 to 48,900. Overall phone response speed appears to be slightly improved. Battery life appears to have improved a little.
I haven't seen any bugs introduced with the root flash, but I don't thrash my phone as thoroughly as some other people might.
ive been rooted all day on 991 vz5, and been messing with the phone ALL day. i have 0 issues with touch response. no idea if this matters but i calibrated my rotation sensor, and locked my rotation to portrait.
phone charges slow as heck even with my 2.1 amp charger. lg is really lame with these underpowered chargers and 1 inch long usb cables.
still just fine.. really need a torch quicklaunch method, and kill app long press back, and overall be able to edit buttons...then ill be 100% happy for now
For launching the torch/flashlight quickly - have you looked into the app "Key Plus"?
Key Plus app allows you to assign the flashlight/torch (or other app) to a double-press the volume up key. So when your screen is off you just "tap tap" the physical key and have the flashlight turn on, works great in the dark. I've assigned my phone to launch google voice instead of the flashlight too, something else to consider. You can't re-assign the volume down button, because that's hard coded to launch the camera app and take a photo (assuming you've toggled the phone's options to also take a quick photo).
i feel like mine has more lag and definitely still has the missed touches, thats super annoying, moreso than lag. but the extra lag might be xposed related.
This setting doesn't seem to be working for me, and this is one of the biggest features I want enabled. I would think could be a massive battery saver, but also extremely convenient. Reading a long article online, sometimes I'm just staring at the screen, not moving touching the display, and makes so much sense for a Face ID thing to see your eyes focus on the phone to keep it awake. But then I would guess can save battery, as when your done viewing the phone, and put it down, the screen turns off.
Android Q adds support for a Smart Stay-like “Screen Attention” feature

Settings > Display > Screen attention
I enabled this in the settings, then I set my screen time out to 15 seconds, to save battery, but thought this "screen attention" thing will keep the screen on for me, when reading news and stuff , as the face ID thing will scan my eyes keeping the display on. Well it doesn't seem to work, if I just stare at a web page for longer than 15 seconds, the screens turns off.
Huh, wonder if the dwell time is just too short. Samsung's version didn't work well for me with less than 30 seconds.
Works for me. It does say that it uses the front facing camera so maybe it doesn't work in poor lighting.
Screen Attention doesn't seem to work for me? I have my display set to 30 seconds to shut off, but if I read an article on my web browser for 30+ seconds, the screen fades to black and turns off.
I have Motion Sense on, but not everything enabled, but I do have Lift Wake, and Reach to wake, and Tap to wake enabled.
Unless there's some other setting I am missing specifically for Screen Attention to work?
Screen Attention has so far been hit-and-miss for me. It appears to be working most of the time, but I have also had it on when the screen just dims and shuts off as I am reading. No poor lighting issues here. This was observed in daylight.
Works for me without issues... How do you hold your phone. Maybe you need to have a thumb in front of the screen so that soli can see something there?
The feature uses the camera. Mine has worked fine but I'm on 1 minute.
Mine never seem to work besides the first day. It's just easier to set the lock to 1 minute and don't bother with screen attention.
Love the phone but have a couple of nagging issue. I am pretty familiar with the Pixel having owned the first and third iterations of the phone. Maybe I'm missing some settings but I am having the following issues:
1) at night when I put the P4XL on the Pixel stand and the lights go out it sometimes switches to the always on display and sometimes it keeps the photo album slide show going. Shouldn't the phone detect the lights out condition and automatically go into sleep mode every time? But the bigger complaint is how bright the always on display is. It lights up the corner of my bedroom. Sure, it's in the night light mode, but it's still way too bright. How do I configure the pixel to dim this sufficiently and make it automatic? Finally it does pulse occasionally between night light mode and white text and that is extremely annoying to see it flashing back and forth every 30 seconds or so.
2) Motion Sense doesn't wake up the phone. When I wake up in the morning Motion Sense does not recognize my hand picking up the phone, and does not enable face unlock to unlock the phone. I have to physically tap the screen to wake it up, then face unlock will unlock the phone. This definitely seems wrong to me.
3) face unlock rarely works in the dark. If I'm laying in bed with the lights out face unlock doesn't work. This is a very annoying issue.
Really would love to hear solutions for problem number 1 if you have them.
1) Settings - Display - Advanced - Screen saver
2) Phone could be sleeping. If I leave my Pixel alone long enough, I get the same results as you.
3) My face unlock works flawlessly in pitch black. I'm not sure what your trouble is.

1. Don't have the Pixel stand yet so I can't really comment on that.
2. Not waking up when grabbing your phone is only isolated to while on the stand? How about when picking it up from a flat?
3. Face unlock has worked perfectly in the dark for me. I even just tested in my closet. Do you have anything blocking the IR blaster or sensors at the top? Tried redoing Face Unlock?

Hi. Was just wondering what other users experiences were with the screen attention function.
I have nothing but praise for the pixel 4xl. Everything works perfectly and even the battery is fine for my use.
The only thing is the screen attention feature. I have it switched to "on" but no matter how long I stare directly at the screen, it will go into standby as if I'd just left it sitting on it's own.
Just curious how others have found this function.
Thanks.
Same here.
Inviato dal mio Pixel 4 XL
It does not seem to work for me if the phone is lying flat on a surface. It seems to work only if I'm holding the phone up.

It seems to work fine for me, though it does work differently than Samsung's implementation. Or it feels that way.
Anyways, I have an Xposed module that monitors camera usage and makes it very easy to see what it is doing. For instance, if my timeout is 15 seconds, it opens the camera every 10-11 seconds for less than a second if it sees me looking at it. A couple seconds more if I'm not visible, then the camera closes and the screen dims before turning off. By the time the screen dims, the camera is already off and only touching the screen will prevent it locking. In my hand or on a surface doesn't seem to change anything for me.
Doesn't work very well at all.
for me it often even works really good in my car at the magnetic car mount, even though I'm not really looking on at my phone. also works fine when I use it normally. I set the screen timeout to 2 mins, don't know if that makes a big difference
Screen Attention not working
Restart the phone. It will work fine untill you use camera or any calling app that is using camera. After that Screen Attention feature will not work though the screen attention is on. This seems a bug. Dont know how to report to google.

I don't think this is a widespread problem as I cannot reproduce it. If an app is currently using the camera, Screen Attention cannot and the phone might sleep. As long as the camera is properly not-in-use, Screen Attention works.
