after i got my droid about a year ago, all i wanted to do was root it. I didnt read enuf about it and the effects of messing up, which i did and "bricked my phone".....so what happened, I was using an RSD lite method....very dumb and unplugged the phone to early (of course messing it up). Finally got it to boot back up and when i had to make the call to re-activate it my service was through U.S. Cellular!?! Took it to verizon, they said that was weird and tried to re flash it with their stock system...didnt work, they called their tech support still couldnt get it fixed. They sent me a warranty phone and didnt want or take the old phone back. It works just fine and i use it as my "test" phone. It is still on U.S. cellular service though. Dont eally need it activated but if anyone knows how, i would love to know??

you could try flashing the 2.2 sbf on it via rsdlite, since its not bricked, or you could flash a verizon radio via recovery after rooting it. Flashing a verizon radio on it should reconfigure it to verizon's settings. Feel free to pm me to further discuss this.
edit: usually when they send you a warranty phone they want you to send the phone back within 10days to avoid being charged for it
Go into recovery, and there is an option to wipe the radio data (i forget what it actually says) Try that. You might have just messed one of the parts of the radio by a small amount.

where do you see that option? its not in clockworkmod recovery. under the advanced tab there are choices to wipe dalvik battery stats and report error of the recovery but that is all. also an option to record key gpio values.

I previously mentioned in the Bionic [Request] thread that the steps for making a RAZR work on PagePlus were the same as a Bionic, however, that statement is not entirely accurate. There is no *#*#4636#*#* on a RAZR, and as such, there seems to be no way at the moment to get 3G data. Picture messaging works if you install VZW messages from the market.
Here is what I did:
First and foremost, use the IMEI but drop the last digit. This is your MEID. Call Pageplus, or find a pageplus dealer who is nice enough to activate it for you, and give them this MEID. You will have to call pageplus cs after you are finished with the following programming to get the MEID put back on the phone. I don't know why this is, and I am not going to give you any kind of technical BS to make it look like I do.
1. Put phone into BP Tools mode by powering off, then pressing both up and down volume and power. Volume down to BP Tools and Volume up to choose it.
2. Install the latest Motorola Driver for your phone from: http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/
3. Connect the phone to the PC, and let the driver install complete.
4. Run HW Virtual Serial Port, and login with the password "admin" (it is already there by default, so just hit enter).< no longer necessary
5. Set the IP as 192.168.16.2, with the port as 11008.
6. Choose com port 100.
7. Open CDMA-Workshop 3.7 or higher (There is no known copy floating around for free. Either find someone who has it installed already, or pay the $108 like I did... if you're like me, you'll find ways to recoup your money. I have made it back a few times over already.) Choose COM port and click CONNECT.
8. Click on Security, SPC and send 000000. Do this EVERYTIME you reconnect the phone. Everytime. Don't forget this.
9. Click on Main and go down to where it says CDMA and change it to CDMA-2.
10. Under R-UIM change config to NV Only.
11. Click on the "Other" tab. At PRL, choose write and write the pageplus prl (51720 only) to it. Google for this, it's out there. Write to phone.
12. REBOOT the phone.
13. Reconnect and resend SPC.
14. On the MAIN tab, switch CDMA-2 back to CDMA.
15. Write 310 to MCC, 00 to MNC, and your MIN. Leave True IMSI alone.
16. Write 283, 384 to P CH; and 691 and 777 S CH.
17. Write your mobile number to the DIR_Number and DIR_PCS fields. Write to phone.
18. Change CDMA to EDVO.
19. under PPP User and HDR User write your phone number [email protected], with vzw for the password.
20. under Teth. NAI write your number [email protected].
21. Click on m.ip profiles
22. NAI is the same as 19. T NAI is the same as 20. The shared Secret fields are both VZW.
23. If necessary, change the P. HA address to 255.255.255.255.
24. Click X, then write to phone.
25. Disconnect the phone and reboot it. You are done with CDMA workshop.
26. On your phone, under Settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > network mode change to CDMA only.
27. Connect to wi-fi and download phone in Play Store (Android Market)
28. Open phone info and go to phone information. Scroll down to set preferred network type and change it to CDMA auto (prl) and toggle DNS Check to allowed.
29. ##Program on your dialer, use "000000" for SPC code, and go to 3> Extended NAM and change the SID to whatever your SID is.
30. Back once to 06 Test Mode, next twice, then make sure network mode is CDMA and EVDO
31. Back once and go to 14 LTE Test Settings. Change SIM Type to 3g, LTE bppanic to disable. Back twice to reboot. Remove SIM Card while rebooting.
32. Back to ##Program 14, disable class1 and class2 APNs and back out. Phone will reboot.
That's it. I have 3g working on 173. Haven't gotten it on 181 or on the ICS leak, though, but, I have a droid razr on my prepaid 29.99/month plan, and couldn't be happier.
Any questions? Please message me. I will respond ASAP.

Think this method would work on the Droid 4 (XT894) as well?
Was considering sending one to Beigephone for programming. However I'd like to learn how to do this myself, so when the time comes if I need to reprogram the phone again, I can do it.
I could only assume so. But, I didn't know if the RAZR would work until I tried it for myself.
I have tried following your guide, and I just had a few things to add from my experience.
Between steps 7 and 8, I had to use 'Read' at the top of CDMA Workshop for it to allow me to enter the SPC code. I clicked the top Read, and I got this message:
DM baud rate has been automatically switched from 38400 to 921600
I was then able to input the SPC.
Furthermore, I was unable to read all of the information from the phone. The top Read worked fine, but the one in the Main tab could only pull certain information. Likewise, the Write button could only write some of the information, and was unable to write all the information under the M.IP Profiles section.
I actually was unable to try and complete the flash because the customer had to leave for work, so he ended up selling me the phone, haha. Any idea why CDMA WS kept erroring out halfway through writing the information?
I also have tried undoing everything through factory reset and changing the mode back to R-UIM only so I could sell it for Verizon, but even after changing the R-UIM settings back, the phone keeps saying there's no SIM card =/
that is the hard way. try this link for the easy way. i have done the razr and droid 4 with this method. i started with the bionic and i am sure it will work on the razr maxx. it doesn't cost a thing.

Instead of creating a Virtual Port. Just boot into BP Tools by pressing the Vol Up and Down buttons from power off. Scroll to BP Tools and press the Vol Up Button. I Used CDMA Workshop. Under CDMA2 Change it to NV Only. Writed a PP PRL. Mine took very easily. 3G was a bit harder but it does work. Most people report that it will only go 1x. After a bit of tweaking it switched to 3G and everything is running perfect.
I have successfully done a RAZR and RAZR MAXX the last 2 days. The process is the same on both.
(Trying to remember, don't have phone in front of me)
Boot up phone with SIM in, remove SIM upon reaching home screen.
##PROGRAM + SEND, enter 000000 for lock code.
Option 6 (Test Mode), hit next until you see Network Mode. Change it to CDMA and EVDO.
Go back to menu, option 14 (LTE Settings), change Sim Type to 3G UICC Test.
Reboot phone.
Go back into ##PROGRAM, option 1 (User Activation) and punch in your correct MIN, MDN and so forth.
There is another option for SMS/MMS settings that I had to change the MML server to [email protected] for text to work. Wasn't able to text MMS because the customer ran out of data
Make sure in your Data Manager under Settings that you have it set to roam for all trips or you won't get any data.
I'd like someone else to try this if they can, being that I sold both my RAZR and RAZR MAXX and I forgot to document the process, haha. If I come across another one, I'll be sure to update this reply.
I had 3G data, voice, text, and I believe MMS was working.
Hope this helps someone!

I'm pretty sure I had to put the SIM back in, program the information, and go into the Data Manager to allow global roaming access.
I was able to get the RAZR MAXX working yesterday following some instructions provided by RemotesquaD (when you purchase their flashing software), and like a big dummy I had it working and tried flashing it with their software so I could get MMS working and it killed the data on the phone. I have sat here the last 4 hours trying to figure it out for this customer, and I am going crazy. I've tried everything, and the only thing I can conceive as a viable reason it won't work is because the phone had been previously activated on Verizon..
Can anyone confirm or deny this? I've tried several 4G SIMs to get through activation and then re-program it to no avail.
If only there was a way to completely revert this phone back to stock, settings and all so I could try from scratch =/ I feel like I might have a country code or SID wrong or something. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks.
Droid razr maxx
so i followed everyones instructions but i put alittle twist in it i had to use cdma workshop 3.8 free trial and qpst. in cdma workshop alot of stuff didnt write to the phone because you have to buy the version of it so i wrote what i could to the phone and opened up qpst and did the rest with it. my only problem now is i use my wifi in the house and the 3g and 1x indicator is on only on wifi. when i turn wifi off then 3g and 1x goes off also. is it because i have an verizon 4g sim in the phone or is it something with the data?
anyone had any luck getting all this on ics???

some info for op
if you flash one of these without the original sim card you might have issues using the ##program# menu.
if you do then here is a tip
get "anycut" from market or search anycut .apk on google
add activity shortcuts one by one to your desktop of the razr
lte test settings
programming (the 2nd one)
testing
field menu settings.
those will give you shortcuts on desktop to enable the setting for 3g.
just had to flash two razrs like this.
hit thanks if it helps

another question of mine
has anyone got mms to work without that ugly ass vzw messages app?
ok so i stayed up waaayyy too late last night trying to get my razr on ics with page plus.
i installed the .79 leak and then installed cm9.
it kept all my settings in there that i could see through anycut looking at programming fields.
all i have is talk and text. no mobile data.
i was not able to connect through cdws on cm9 tho. if i reboot with bp tools then it goes to safestrap and after that it shows no diag port in device manager.
just trying to write down everything i did.
about to go back to 181 and maybe start over not sure yet.

Thanks for this pltctytc, but here's a question. I found out that I needed the SIM card kept in to get MMS via VZW Messages. Are you able to get MMS on 3G with the SIM out? The only difference is that my gf's phone is a Bionic on PPC.
had to put sim in to get internet... can't say about mms w/o sim since i didn't try it. i am not using a 4g verizon sim and never had one its a generic h20 one
but everything works as designed sms mms internet email blah blah blah
don't really know if there is a difference but knowing verizon i would assume they have something embedded in their cards
i am really surprised there is so little info about there about the razr or lte phones on pageplus. i guess most using ppc don't want newer phones or their capabilities
nevilles video is good on using cdmaws on the razr but i lost 3g following it but managed getting it back with a couple settings mentioned previously through trial and error

Why is my spc not all zeros when I dial ##PROGRAM? The previous sole user would not be capable of changing it and besides CDMA WS sends 000000 just fine.
Success!!!
This is a step by step that I used and it worked(Tmobile) for official release ICS:
01. Update to ICS
02. Power off phone and wipe data in Stock Recovery
03. Power on phone and edit the hex values with Radiocomm see: post 29/30 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297714&page=3
04. Power off phone
05. Remove sim card
06. Power phone back on
07. Connect to PC
08. Root
09. Delete STK.apk (edit: you no longer have to delete, just rename to stk.apk.bak)
10. Delete STK.odex (edit: you no longer have to delete, just rename to stk.odex.bak)
11. Modify Build.prop values as is:
ro.telephony.default_network=7
ro.mot.phonemode.vzw4gphone=0
telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=0
and add this to the bottom:
ro.telephony.ril.v3=signalstrength
12. Power off phone
13. Insert SIM
14. Power on!
15. Dial *#*#info#*#* switch to WCDMA Preferred
Should be good to go!
I'm sorry, but I need to ask a question that is probably frustratingly obvious,
When I go to use the RadioComm tool, the instructions says to put the phone in PC mode. I can't find PC mode on the phone, and whenever I try to use RadioComm, everything is red... the blood-red of failure...
How did you get around this? I've only had the phone for an afternoon (I'm enabling TMobile for a friend) so maybe I just don't know where the button for PC mode is!
Thanks for this. I was about to give up. I thought it was required to downgrade to the last GB rom (which is, apparently, impossible). I'm glad to give this a shot.

Haha... It turned out to be just as stupid an error as I thought it would be... I didn't have the correct drivers installed -.- . I installed MotoCast, rebooted, tried again, and it worked! Yay.
Thank you!
Also, more notes for people who are as moto-clueless as me:
Stk.apk and Stk.odex are in /system/app
build.prop is in /system
It now accepts my Tmobile SIM, but it can't find any service. I've looked around, and it seems that lots of people with TMobile are having no luck with stock ICS, but ATT works fine. Any ideas? I changed ro.telephony.default_network=7 to =0 because that's how it appears in my TMobile MyTouch 4G Slide.

Try using my build.prop file. Heres the link to my post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33261067

Do you have it working on T-Mobile? I gave it back to him this morning, but I sent him idiot-quality instructions to replace the build.prop. He says it doesn't work. He's on prepaid, so he as decided to just switch to Verizon. (This is a great idea where we live, T-Mobile has 2G and Verizon has 4G...) I hope this is an isolated instance rather than a generic problem with T-Mobile on the Bionic.
If I'm walking with him past an ATT store, I'll see if they'll let me try a SIM, so see if it was just me or if it's locked (or something?)... Unfortunately, there aren't many ATT stores for hours of where we live

Yes I have it working on T-Mobile here's a screenshot. The reason 3g/hspa+(4g) doesn't work for T-Mo everywhere with the Bionic is because they are in the process of switching bands to the standard 1900mhz band in the US. ATT users get full use of their band and 3g/hspa+(4g)

Yes they have the same type of network but they work on different bands. ATT=1900mhz T-Mo=1700mhz(switching to 1900mhz by end of year) The reason SMS/MMS isnt working is because you need to modify the build.prop file in your root folder. Ive attached the 1 click root program for the Bionic, use this to root your phone. After you root your phone you will need to download some type of root explorer so that you can access the root folder. You no longer have to delete the STK files just rename them with .bak extensions. They are located in /system/app. Then access /system and switch to R/W mode. You have to edit build.prop with the values in the guide.

Works, but i'm only pulling 'Edge' Network. No 3g like before
Thank you VERY much. But i've got some information and a question...
I was too excited to try what you said to do so i didn't go back and read the instructions on post #1.
My phone had the SIM already still in it.
WCDMA was selected
Hex was still set to AT&T/Tmobile.
Then...
-- I Root it.
-- I edit files as given above.
NOTHING CHANGED! CANT SEND SMS STILL!!!
-- Powercycle.
NOTHING CHANGED! CANT SEND SMS STILL!!!
-- Reboot, wipe cache, wipe data/factory reset.
turn phone on: FULL BARS! (had to wait 1-2 minutes. and input SIM password)
Had Voice, but the calls kept failing
--Input APN for ST(att)
SMS/MMS work!!
Voice works
DATA works! ( Shows Edge2 )
My question is, Booted up on: GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL)
GSM = -80dBm
Network: home. ( i have never heard of this.)
IMEI: unknown
my phone number shows on *#*#info, and under phone information -unlikebefore it did not. Yet my IMEI isn't showing... It did before.
The network i had before i made these changes phone displayed ATT as network, not it is 'home'
network type before was HSPA/HSPA+/Edge, not it is just EDGE2.
So i'm not on ATT like before, i am on GSM?
When I send SMS/MMS to my other phone it takes 20 seconds to 5 minutes to show up on her phone.
When I am sent SMS/MMS it takes just as much time to show up on mine.
after about 20 minutes of running the phone SMS send normal speed.
I never did do the "then access /system and switch to R/W mode." Because I don't know what you mean.
when i switch to WCDMA preferred, it took about 3 minutes to load up a signal, The network type is still 'home' before all this it used to be 'ATT'

T-Mobile is in the process of a complete "re-farm" mainly to make their network iphone compatiple. This means that everything on the network should be operating on the 1900mhz band by spring/summer 2013 which is when they are rumored to be getting the iphone. Regardless, if they still don't offer the iphone this refarm allows any unlocked iphone to be used on their network and get full HSPA+. You can bring an unlocked iphone into their store now and they'll put it on their network but if you don't live in an area where the re-farm is complete you'll only get EDGE access.
This update also applies to any other phone that operates on the 1900mhz band, not just the iCrap. T-Mo also just bought MetroPCS which, in itself, is not a huge deal as far as coverage goes BUT they also get all of Metro's spectrum (plus the spectrum they got from ATT and the failed merger) so they are actually lining themselves up to be the carrier with the most available spectrum as the FCC only has so much to auction off. I am seriously considering jumping ship for them even with my grandfathered unlimited data. They've got unlimited everything for cheaper but I have to see how service is.
I honestly was not aware the Bionic was HSPA+... probably just from not researching it as I have VZW anyway right now... My contract is up in March and even though I am grandfathered unlimited I might give them a shot. They actually charge less for "bring your own phone" and their deals are pretty good. Wife wants iphone and with the re-farm she could have one on T-Mo but her contract is not up till March 2014 so the ETF plus unlocked iphone... $1k... um no... Maybe when she sees how awesome ICS is vs GB she'll change her mind...

can I ask what you mean when you say you input sim password? Im trying to get it to work on t-mobile... Well I have 2 bionics, one is mine and I got t-mobile working fine using the radiocomm edit, removing the apk/ and odex file listed by DBoyFresh954 and doing the build prop edit listed by him in the same first post. but the 2nd bionic is my friends and I cant get t-mobile working on it. The only thing thats not the same on the two bionics is my friends is HW B 43/11 while mine is HW A 34/11. If anyone might have a fix or can explane the sim unlock that scarocean was talking about please do post or pm me would be most thankful
HELP!!
Okay, so I got my T-Mobile SIM card in today. Followed everything perfectly and still nothing. No service or anything. I double checked my area for coverage and confirmed that T-Mobile does have service here. I'm on stock 246. I rooted, applied the gsm unlock zip, re-named the stk files, edited the build.prop settings, and switched to WCDMA Preferred. I have the HW B version if that matters. I've been looking everywhere and can't seem to find an answer. Could somebody help please?!
Edit: My phone is now showing AT&T as the network. Also noticed that my Signal is reading -81 dBm and 16 asu. Isn't that a good signal?

I followed post #1 exactly and my Bionic works on T-Mobile.
What do you mean where you said "applied the gsm unlock zip" --- Either I missed this part or do not understand what you are referring to.
Running rooted Bionic on Synergy ROM on T-Mobile.
I do have a question though....
How to prevent phone from going back to LTE when rebooting. Not the worst thing but have to modify the radio each time phone is rebooted???
Also the ones who got it to work as well, are you getting 3G??? I feel as though I am not....
Thanks again to the person who started Post #1 --- Saved me $$ from buying a new phone from T-Mobile.

I flashed a zip that does what you did in Radiocomm. I finally got fed up with the problems and went to AT&T and got a SIM with prepaid. Works great! I just could never get the T-Mobile SIM card to work. Didn't go to waste though. Unlocked my wife's Torch and used it for that.
I have no idea how to make the settings stick for reboots. Odd, that your settings don't stay on WCDMA Preferred. Mine stays after reboot.
I think the Bionic can only get 2G until T-Mobile has finished their refarm. I think there's only a couple that have been set. Don't quote me on that though. Haven't really looked into it a whole lot.

I have a folder /system on my PC but I can't find /system on the bionic. Where is the /system/app folder? Do I need to use device manger find it? A few more details would be much appreciated. a list of files and programs needed would be a nice addition to walkthrough. Just a thought. Plz help thanks

Download ES File Explorer. Hit the menu button once you open it and go to settings. Scroll down to root settings and select all options. Go back to the main menu and hit the Up button at the very top. Scroll down and click on "System." Once in you'll see the "App" folder immediately. Click on that and scroll down to the STK apk's. Once your done renaming go back once and scroll down till you find the build.prop. Click it and use the ES note editor to edit the settings.
As far as adding the signal strength to the build.prop goes just scroll all the way down and add it there.

When you do this edit, can you switch back to Verizon's CDMA/LTE by switching sim cards or do you need to redo both the apks and Hex edit?
Getting GSM (& Straight Talk) working on the Droid Bionic running Jelly Bean 4.1.
If you're here I'm sure you know now that it is possible, contridictory to all those who claim it's not because of these specs or that data sheet or press release.
Apparently it has the exact same radio / chipset as other Moto World phones it's just not for lack of a better term "unlocked".
BTW...If I was to recommend an order to do the "trifecta" in, this would be the last step. I doubt it would effect rooting. But MOST of the problems I ran into updating to JB had to do with the fact I originally did this when I was still on ICS, then it caused a bunch of probs while trying to update. Namely all of the "System 7" errors. See that thread for more.
****FIRST AND FOREMOST*****
Make copies of every file you change in their current untouched state, before editing, and if you can't, keep notes of their current values.
Also do not do this with the SIM in, it's not required for anything other than testing and getting a signal at the end.
This, from my experience, is also the cause of the "android.phone" shut down error loop.
IF you get that, shut the phone down in between hitting the "ok" button of the error loop and remove the SIM and continue. Once you finish and have reception it shouldn't return.
Follow the build.prop edits shown on the XDA thread "Bionic working on T-MO."
*You have to have root access to edit this file. I use ES File Explorer, use in "root" mode and enable R/W for everything. Whatever file explorer you use I'm sure it's similar, just look thru the settings.*
Then I saved changes & rebooted, and did the RadioComm part. Apparently this is the step that turns on / unlocks the GSM radio.
When you open RadioComm and it asks what setting to start on pick, same as chipset setting (will edit & update w exact in a minute don't have it open right now, you have to scroll about midway down the list tho.)
*If the big box in the middle right doesn't fill up with code, or totally turn green after you make the change to the first (16) numbers & save, somethings wrong and the edit didn't save. restart the steps & make sure they're right. Close RadioComm. You're done with it (...for now)
Disconnect Phone & Reboot.
After boot go to Dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* (*#*#info#*#*), should go right to a menu & pick Phone Info. go down to "set preferred network type" & pick WCDMA. back out and should be done.
People have said this won't stay set for them. Following all the instructions, I've not had a problem keeping a network set. I believe this is controlled with one of the build.prop edits. There are suggested fixes out there, if you go thru the settings and edits and you're still having a prob, try those.
In truth, mine defaults to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL), but it doesn't seem to effect my service, and I believe that will auto switch between networks which is fine with me becasue I can't get CDMA with the GSM sim anyways.
If you just want GSM, that should be it. Power down, put your SIM in and reboot. If you have AT&T or T-Mo, the APNs are already loaded and should default after phone reads SIM.
If you get "unknown SIM" dialog just click "ok". It will come up every time you reboot your phone tho so if you want to put an end to it, there's a quick build.prop edit that fixes it. Will Post exactly when I find it again.
but it's something like changing:
vzwphone=1 to
vzwphone=0 (only for ref until I get it up).
****Straight Talk (At&t SIM)
Before putting in SIM and after Preferred Network change.
go to Dialer, ##7764726 (##program) & hit "call" / phone button, enter "000000" for SPC password & "Verify".
Go down to #13 APN Controls,
then APN Config Edit.
Touch menu button on phone (4-squares) & New APN.
These are my settings & Voice, Data & MMS all work.
Name: Straight Talk AT&T
APN: att.mvno (make sure "MVNO" had this as MNVO and couldn't figure out what was wrong)

MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default, supl, mms, hipri, dun (no space betw commas)
That's it. anything not listed above was left blank or as it defaulted.
power down put in SIM, and in a few minutes you should have service.
If you do, try going on internet, if that works, try sending yourself a picture msg.
All have worked for me.
****BTW - 2 things....make sure you have Wifi turned off, & you have mobile data enabled / on. (the mobile / packet data "On" thing was the issue with my Captivate Glide not getting data & MMS and it drove me nuts, then to find out it was just a switch & bang worked great.)
I hope this helps at least someone.
Cheers.
the one issue I still kinda have....
For whatever reason I get great data speeds.
typically 4.5 - 6+ Mbps down & 1.5 - 2 up.
but my voice levels are typically high -80's to -105 dbms
which equals at best, a not steady 3 bars.
Usually only 2 bars (mid -90's dbms) and quite often the little spec of a triangle.
I've tried the RadioComm Hex edit & adding lines to the build.prop to get boost signal reception that others have said helped them. Neither have done anything for me. (found here)
Currently still have both "running".
also tried this build.prop change
vzwglobalphone=1 to
vzwglobalphone=0
still no change.
The reason this is kinda an issue for me is my daily is currently a Samsung Captivate Glide and I Consistantly am at 4+ bars and high 70's. I don't know why I shouldn't get same reception in same areas, especially because I read that Moto radios are better than Samsung ones.
I do wonder if it's because the other is a "native" GSM, but then I think that the Moto is too, it was just "turned off" before.
Again I'm not a Dev, but I do want this to be my daily, so I'm willing to try pretty much anything since I have a back-up. So if anyone who knows more than me or has found a fix that works for them, please share.
i have followed your directions to the letter but still get bootloop. can u b a lil more detailed on how to save the build.prop to prevent this
@ smutta - Do you mean the android.phone shut down error? THe only time I experienced a boot loop was when I updated to JB, and that's when I was getting the "motorola dual core" boot animation loop. The result of that in my case was the "system 7" errors I mentioned in the JB update thread. Those are a result of, lack of a better way of putting it, the checksum's not matching what the update is looking for. Any hacks / changes you've made will seem to cause it to error out and the boot loop. Please check that thread too.
good luck.

Thank you i got it working and with a few roms also
@MoodSwinger
I am very new to this whole hack thing.
I've read, read, and read some more about trying to find the right way to do this.
I've successfully (through a combination of steps on here and other threads) got my (previously Verizon) Bionic on the Straight Talk network. I have voice, text, and data. Now, I'm running into a few of things that I can't seem to fix.
1st- My radio signal is real low (1 bar to 3 max) The network does not read 3G, it reads "H" ... What does that mean? I've never seen "H".
2nd- The phone seems to have a hell of a time detecting the SD card. Sometimes it does, but most of the time it doesn't.
3rd- I usually have no problem getting my apps back on from my Google account that backs them up after I would FXZ. I usually have to re- download them, but they are at least there. That doesn't happen anymore. I don't know how to recover them. This might have something to do with not having the proper signal. ???
What do you think I should do from here? Any input?
I have a feeling that a couple of tweaks in the build.prop would do the trick, but I'm not sure which ones to modify.
Also, I called Straight Talk and they gave me a more suitable APN for my area(I guess):::::
Name:
Straight Talk
APN:
tfdata
MMSC:
h t t p://mms-tf.net (without the spaces in the http, of course)
MMS Proxy:
mms3.tracfone.net
MMS port:
80
----------------
The rest he told me to just let it default, and that it would fill in itself if need be.
Otherwise, I tweaked the build.prop just like you illustrated in your post.
Thanks for the help, or even pointing me in the direction of an amazing Motorola radio tech.
I have root and I have flashed thru radiocomm the 1877 values.
I get the android.phone FC every time I switch to anything GSM or WCDMA related in phone testing.
I can't find the current workable build.prop edits, am trying to get it to work on Simple mobile.
Also what does renaming / deleting the stk.apk and atk.odex do?
Current edits

If you just want GSM, that should be it. Power down, put your SIM in and reboot. If you have AT&T or T-Mo, the APNs are already loaded and should default after phone reads SIM.
If you get "unknown SIM" dialog just click "ok". It will come up every time you reboot your phone tho so if you want to put an end to it, there's a quick build.prop edit that fixes it. Will Post exactly when I find it again.
but it's something like changing:
vzwphone=1 to
vzwphone=0 (only for ref until I get it up).
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
Cheers.

i have done many bionics using this radiocomm hack, everything works on stock, but when i try AOKP rom 4.2 (milestone 2) , custom rom, my sms do not work (inmeadtly receive a message not sent error) any ideas why?
No, no ideas. Is it just SMS or MMS too? or all data? can you get on the internet? does it work w WIFI?
I have been wanting to try the AOKP rom, but I installed the MS1 and at that time it didn't work w GSM, so I haven't gotten around to trying it even since the GSM patch had come out. Does the MS2 have the GSM "Built in"? If I can use it w Safestrap I'' give it a shot and see if I can fig it out.

Honestly, every straight talk modded phone i have seen that isnt getting sms has a problem within the apn settings. The ones you quoted in that post are the best i have used but depending on where you live, you may have to use the tracfone version. Or it ay be something totally different and unique.

I got it fixed, just tweaked some biuld.prop settings , that was the problem, i had made the buildprop tweaks only in the stock one, so no wonder the aokp had problems, and to answer your question , everything works, WIFI, DATA, just by installing it you will not get GSM working you have to do:the the radiocomm edit, the build.prop edit, i even got FM radio working again on JB, no the MS2 doesnt work as GSM until you make the changes, but ponce you do , everything GSM is in there in the aokp menus (apn edits, etc)
I have my bionic going on straight talk w/At&t. Under settings>mobile networks>Network operators I have the choice to search networks and select from a couple of different At&t options, a t-mobile option or I can set it to "choose automatically." Should I keep this on choose automatically or should I select one of the At&t networks it detects, and is there a difference? The two at&t bands appear to operate at the same frequency whereas the T-mobile network looks like a smaller range. I'm trying to optimize signal/data. Thanks in advance.
***UPDATE*** I left my house for the first time today since getting my phone going on GSM w/AT&T StraightTalk and I had 4 bars of reception and full 3g downloads and full messaging capabilities. I'm satisfied with the results and I think any difference in signal strength may come from having been spoiled on Verizon's coverage, even though I never got good reception at my house with verizon either so I guess I can't expect more from someone else.
I can root, flash recovery, flash the TBH GSM.zip hack -- As soon as I reboot from CWM I recieve the error "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen.
I am on 0A.78 - restoring with cdma_targa_9.8.2O-72_VZW-22_cfc.xml.zip (It is the only build that won't err on flash.)
After Restore, I use Oracle VM Ware to root with Root_Bionic_JB_20130501-4.ova
I then install BionicBootstrap.apk - I reboot into CWM, then BAM- Encryption error all over again......
Any ideas? I've been all over the Android boards and can't find much help. I have only had SIM detection and service 1 time previously- I tried to make a call and the phone would not connect. I had to do a manual reboot and I was right back where I started.
You can't use Bionic BootStrap recovery on any build after ICS and you also can't use the TBH zip method anymore.
You have to use RadioComm or other NV access tool to make the edits manually along with the build.prop edits needed.
Is there an actual STEP BY STEP guide? I had it working on stock 4.1.2 ... as soon as I flashed a custom recovery I was right back to Encryption unsuccessful. I was up for 24 hrs + last time when I managed to get it going, so needless to say I'm a little fuzzy on the details of how I managed it.
finally
I had an awful time of trying to use my stock ROM with ST AT&T; I damn near lost my mind.
Most threads fail to mention (or as a newbie I couldn't decipher) that a custom ROM is the way to go, and oh so amazing.
SS slot 2, changed a few lines in build.prop including my default network to WCDMA preferred (which I could not do in stock), easily added APN using the ST Data Settings app, and it is going pretty good so far. The only problem I am experiencing is the absence of my car dock, but that is a whole 'nother thread!
Thanks for all y'all's help! Very brilliant!
I have rooted my phone, and am trying the radiocomm hack, but, radiocomm is not recognizing my phone. how can i get radiocomm to recognize my device is connected?
This tutorial is my method for successfully unlocking the G flex to Cricket/AIO/ATT wireless with data/MMS, No battery drain, no Wifi calling drain.
1. Pros. Use Cricket/AIO/ATT sim.
2. Cons. Must dial International code +1 ( or whatever country code you're in) before every 10 digit number.
********Before we start you need to be on stock 4.4.2 sprint rom with Network Mode LTE/CDMA enabled************
(The roaming option does not appear when on GSM)
Next, change theme from "FLEX" to "LG". For some reason FLEX bugs out after the phone unlocks and causes crashes. (May be an isolated incident)
*Now we need to add the APN from AIO wireless into the Apn list by going into settings>roaming>Access point names
*The APN list will be blank and state "NO APNS" this is normal. Hit the menu button and add the AIO wireless APN settings from
http://buzzmobile.us/aio-wireless-apn-settings-internet-mms/
When completed you will need to press the back button and once again you will be greeted with a blank APN screen. Don't worry it's there.
Follow the instructions for root + unlocking the phone here. Total commander doesn't work on 4.4.2, don't use it, do it all with Root Browser (Get from Play Store).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50477852
After you are finished you should be rooted, successfully finished removing bloatware and left with a half unlocked phone.
Now navigate to settings/tethering and networks/mobile networks/Network Mode and change to GSM/WCDMA
**********************You are finished with this portion of the Tutorial***********************
*Fun Part*
1. Download Rom toolbox on your phone, the free/lite version is fine.
2. Navigate to build.prop editor
3. Find and change the settings listed..
ro.carrier=spr (spr to lowercase)
ro.build.target_operator=spr (spr to lowercase)
persist.service.crash.enable=1
Lets keep something in mind here... Once you change these settings you will need to restart your phone and you will be unlocked for Cricket/AIO/ATT networks, however, at this time you should know that if you venture back into network mode and happen to change your settings back to LTE/CDMA, you will lose the ability to change your network mode back to GSM UNLESS you revert the build.prop changes listed above. You can actively switch from LTE/CDMA and GSM by this method although I don't see why anyone would..
At this point you should have Talk/Text/Data/MMS...If not, you may have done something wrong.
**More funner part***
At this point in the tutorial your phone is doing two things.
1. It lies when it says its only on GSM/WCDMA
2. Rapidly draining the S#$% out of your battery.
We need the MSL Code so we may dial ##DATA# in your phone and access LTE settings.
Follow this Tutorial for retrieving your MSL code.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47324060
After you obtain the MSL pull up the phone application and dial ##DATA#(3282) Navigate into LTE and disable LTE/Band 26/Band 41
When you back out of the menu your phone will restart and stop continuously looking for LTE Radio.
**Final touches**
Remove all and I mean ALL sprint and preloaded wifi calling applications if you experience wifi calling battery draining. For some reason wifi calling spazzes out.
I'm not going to list the apk's because it may be an isolated incident and if you find out wifi calling is draining your battery just long press it in battery stats and go to "APP INFO" and find out what it is named and remove it with root browser...
I have been on Cricket/AIO wireless for two weeks now with HSPA+ and enjoying it.
This method may work with other carriers who knows.
**Food for thought**
1. When I change the ro.carrier settings from lowercase spr to ndo like in the APN i got a cool h+ instead of GSM.
2. I have not been able to wifi tether yet with cricket and I'm actively looking for a way now..
3. Think anyone else has issues with the FLEX theme crashing?
thanks.

If you don't mind how much do you pay? Will this work with a T-Mobile Flex? I'm pretty happy with T-Mobile since I got my discount back. I have 4 lines so it's around 25 bucks in savings a month.

It should work with t-mobile, i don't see why not, instead of ATT/AIO apn's just add a Tmobile apn and make sure that you have some time to play with the build.prop settings for example...
ro.carrier = spr can be changed to ndo and still work because "in theory" it matches the APN.
After adding the tmobile apn setting, changing ro.carrier to " t-mobile" to match the apn might work .
Try it out and see!
p.s i would leave ro.build.target_operator=spr alone, if all else fails you can change this too.
Thanks for the guide . I picked up a sprint g flex and lg g2 cheap, used your guide on both. Enjoying them on NET10 in the states.
patiently waiting for a custom recovery for kitkat on the flex.
interesting thread. i keep running into an issue though. as soon as i reboot after changing the stuff it reverts to where i was before and nothing saved. any suggestions? root is fine...
awesome stuff here i really want to see this happen on my flex!
Wont allow apn change
so i got stuck with a simple issue. when i go into the apn list there is an apn there already.
cinet.spcs
and when i press the menu key it is not showing the add feature to be able to add the new apn as described in the thread.
after doing these I noticed when opening Wifi it force closes and says "Unfortunantley, Settings has stopped"
only wifi that works is the one i used before doing these mods wont allow adding others
also have tried various wifi repair apps
working for me but getting tons of systemui crashes
Concerning the errors that appear often but I came out I did this : I returned and change in the build prop, spr for SPR capitalized and not returned to me the problem also remove the option to persist crash : 0 , take into GSM mode UMTS network selection mobile. I'm in version 4.4
Not working for me.
I tried this 3 times. Once with stock 4.4.2. Once downgraded to 4.2.2 and another time after updating back to 4.4.2 from OTA. All failed. Could not get any sim to be recognized. I am a smart guy and have done much more complicated methods of flashing, rooting, etc. for Android phones. But this just does not work. The phone states no SIM when I put my Cricket SIM in it. But when I put the Sprint SIM back, it reads it.
Any help would be GREATLY accepted. Thank you.
PS: I called Sprint because this is a clean phone. When I asked for the unlock code they gave me the MSL. I have a feeling that is incorrect but I could be wrong. After an hour on the phone, they said that is the unlock code. No matter how much I tried to tell them it's not.

Maybe this is a better guide for you:
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-sim-unlock-sprint-lg-g2-ls980/
The Sim unlock does work, I've been using my sprint g flex on cricket for 6 months or so , but only with H+ .
You don't really need the msl or have the phone in good standing (blacklisted is OK).
If the Sim isn't being recognized that means you didn't do the folder replacement right. I had trouble at this part, which was solved by using the app "ROM toolbox". It took a few tries.
As far as changing the APN , just use any shortcut app on the playstore.
For switching bands, use the app " network" from the playstore. No msl needed.

Forgot to mention that I am on 4.4.2 ZVA, there seems to be a problem/troubles with this mod after this update. Definitely get rid of bloatware/sprint to stop updates

Tried this method twice so far. Both times the phone reboots or I get multiple force closes that disable the use of the phone. Guess I'll keep trying. Thanks for the help.

Did you use the files from my link? Flex specific?
Don't use total commander.
What software version are you on?
Even after the FC, does it recognize your Sim?
You must also change the build prop, just realize the guide doesn't have that. Probably why your getting FCs.
Save a copy before making changes:
ro.carrier=spr
ro.build.target_operator=spr
persist.service.crash.enable=1

Sweet. Glad you got it.
The only trouble I have had with this method is if the phone shuts off or I restart, I have to switch the bands back to GSM.
would this work on LS995ZVB? thanks.
