I accidentally Bricked my Chinese K20 Pro (bootloader locked! not linked to Mi)

I bought my K20 Pro off AliExpress being advertised as the "Global Version". I later found out that this was actually a Chinese version, rooted and with a custom ROM.
Due to this fact, I was not able to use Google Pay (gave me an error "not available on rooted devices".
I thought to be clever, googled, how to re-lock the bootloader, and got to work. That done ... and without realising I just BRICKED my brand new phone.
As I did not link my device to my Mi account I had no option to unlock it the official way either.
I spent the good part of 2 days researching and trying different tools .. and I am stuck!
As far as I can see I got only these options left:
- Open up my device, do the test point thingy.. and flash via Mi Flash. (do I need an authorised account for this??) .. Since the device is glued.. I am not comfortable doing this.
- Use a deep flash EDL cable .. does this actually solve the problem? Or do I still need to open up the device?
- Try to get a refund from Ali Express and send it back as "sold as Global, but is actually chinese" .. not sure I will ever see my money back (any experience?)
- Find a phone repair shop.
Any suggestions?
Any way I can fix this without having to open up my phone?
Hi.
Your are not alone with a bricked brand new k20
I did the exact same thing for the same reason (unable to use Google pay). However even worse I knew my device was a the Chinese version. I did manage to unbrick it, but only by open (test points) it and by paying someone with an authorized edl account to connect to my pc using TeamViewer. I also managed to accidentally remove and lose some micro components from the main board that are used for the screen. So in the end I have a device with black a screen. Learned an expensive lesson to not attempt repairs when tired in the middle of the night. Good luck with yours.
Same problem
Hello,
Did you manage to unbrick the device?

If you have bricked the phone look here for the solution
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/help/destroyed-error-fastboot-locked-t3946012/post79852687
Read it all.
You will need to open the phone and use the test point method to put the phone into EDL mode, then you can unlock and flash a ROM.
You'll see a link for s-unlock. This paid service will allow you to EDL flash without an authorised account.

Deep flash cable doesnt work on this device, i got mine bricked but now its fixed, service centers doesnt accept phones that are chinese variants if there are xiaomi service centers near you, and if you find a phone repair shop, i dont know if they could handle your problem if its not Xiaomi Authorized, you can try and open your phone using the correct tools ( heat gun or hair dryer + suction) i opened mine using only plastic playing cards and old credit card combo, if you are worried about the glue just don't when the glue reheats it will pretty much seal the phone again at 90% of the time mine was pretty dusty and is pretty sturdy as it was already dried, ( tried to pull it out using a suction tool) just follow the guides and you will not encounter any problems, also if you dont have verified account I also suggest s-unlock, its super fast and easy plus a very responsive support team backs you up if you have questions regarding their services or if you wanted to have assistance. Have a great day!

CLT-L09 Test Point Location

I know where the locations are for the other P20 Pro devices but not this one, hoping someone will be able to point it out, thanks very much!.

General Paid 1200 Rs for EDL Authorization

My phone got bricked when i flashed Fastboot rom my display was black when i tried to flash it via fastboot it asked for EDL Authorization account. So i concatced someone telegram he gave authorization for 1200 rs
WTH is that? Why pay someone for something that may have possibly rendered your phone as a criminal device if in case that code is used for some nefarious activity somewhere?
Couldn't just going to the service center helped?

The service center isn't available worldwide, for example, it's not available where I live so that's why most of these people who provide "EDL Auth Services" are popular.
I lost my Redmi 6A due to brick issues and even the "service center" (I'll use quotes because they're definitely NOT an official service center) from where I live couldn't fix the problem, i had to contact an unknown person from telegram to help me.

Question Xiaomi 11t Pro VoLTE and Vowifi

HI Guys,
I just bought this phone for sure I love it but I live in an area where VoLTE is and VoWifi is a must to have due to poor mobile reception
I used the dial in numbers to get VoLte and and Vowifi activated got success and was able to switch them on from Mobile network menu, but they aren't working at all I tried with flight mode on and off for Vowifi same thing, tried sim card from another network no use, and signs for VoLTE or Vowifi hasn't come on notification panel also
I am on Global Rom
MIUI Version 12.5.10 (RKDMIXM)
Does anyone knows any solution to this
Thanks in advance
I've had a problem with my carrier and Wi-Fi calling which I had to fix myself. Xiaomi do nothing except bundle the default carrier settings and very little testing is done if any. There is a good chance the carrier configuration settings for your carrier are missing or broken.
If you can let me know the carrier and country you are trying to get it to work with I will take a look at the modem configuration settings for that carrier and see if it has anything in it for VoWiFi or VoLTE.
Getting it fixed however, unless you go down the technical route of using Qualcomm debug tools and unlocking the bootloader and rooting, the chances of getting it fixed is close to zero. Xiaomi have never looked at the bug report I filed months ago.
HI Philip,
Thank you for the response I am in Australia using Telstra network, I tried Optus Sim as well having the same issue with it, the only solution I could find is in below link
https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/3rppj4r3
It says have to enter into Modem test tools to change region and network to Australia which isn't possible without unlocking the bootloader, I have requested bootloader unlock permission if it doesn't help will need to switch the phone

I've looked at the modem configuration file relating to IWLAN and the settings are there. It is noted a Certificate is required to join the IWLAN for VoWiFi so it is possible that certificate isn't on the phone or is now out of date so a connection isn't allowed. It is also possible other configuration settings in the config file are out of date and need updating. If it is possible to get another carrier modem file to work, then often other things can break, but at least that would give a pointer to what changes need to be made by comparing the two.
It should be noted that Xiaomi don't really test these devices everywhere and they seem to just use the default Qualcomm provided carrier modem files and hope for the best in any particular country. You can use the feedback options to tell them of a problem but in my experience you will never get a response and in my case they've never opened a linked file with extra information (on Google drive so I can see who last opened it).
Regarding the other forum info, well I've not been able to get the modem test tool working on the 11T Pro (says to contact the modem team for permission), and the forum posts suggest we need weekly test ROMs where the permissions are enabled, however there are no weekly ROMs for the 11T Pro as far as I know. The next best thing is to modify the same settings using the Qualcomm debug tools, this takes some effort to get working.

I can confirm the Xiaomi.eu ROMs contain exactly the same modem files (they don't touch them), so I doubt very much it will be any different. By all means give it a go if you like.
Hi Philip,
Have you checked EEA firmware if that has it?

Yes I checked the EEA firmware. From what I've seen investigating my own issues with VoWiFi is that all the firmware regardless of region contain the same standard Qualcomm modem files, even across different devices, not just the 11T Pro.
Did you try to disable carrier check? Dial *#*#86583#*#* in phone and then the VoLTE option would appear into sim options.
