Hello all,
First post on the XDA forums because you guys are awesome and I couldn't find anything else on this issue anywhere. So I have had my Asus rog 2 for about 2 months now. I got it on eBay tencent Edition for the US. It's a beautiful phone and it works great. However...
The signal bar keeps dying. Whenever I would game (in this case, mobile legends) I would occasionally have my full strength/half strength signal bar go to 0 signal or just none (empty bar or no bar at all) which would not only shut off my data, but it would also cause my wifi connection to disconnect. It takes about 20-30 seconds for it to reconnect which is way too long when you're in a Moba. It's super upsetting since my older phone, the Poco has no issue like this and it doesn't even have a Sim card! I have this Juggernaut phone but I'm forced to play on the Poco. Very sad.
Other gripes with it is the ****ty H+ connection on data. That being said, I am using a Chinese phone in the US so I've just come to terms with it. I have cricket wireless so it is a band that the rog 2 has. My friend told me to maybe flash a new os (global version) and maybe that would fix everything. I'm not sure, I was looking for more feedback. Let me know guys!
Below I have attached a screenshot that gives an example of what I mean.

I have no idea why my images aren't working, so if you need the link to view what I mean let me know. But it's basically just the phone signal bar going from full strength or whatever it is to 0 strength. It goes from saying "cricket" (meaning I'm connected) to no connection, emergency calls only and then eventually back to cricket. About a 30-second process to get reconnected every time.

You're not the only one dude,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/rog-phone-2/help/bug-report-rog-phone-2-restart-wifi-t3985965
But I don't know how to reproduce this behaviour. Mine doesn't seem to do, however, there are a handful of people on that thread where it does happen...
You could maybe report it to asus forums, there doesn't seem to be any answer here... Other than, like you say, maybe flashing the whole device again with a fresh rom. Can't say for sure that would work though...
If you do decide to flash again, you might wanna use this guide and check the video linked in that OP to see how to do it...

I used to have the H+ issue when I was with AT&T but after switching to simple mobile I've been getting 4G ever since. Really any plan on the T mobile network would probably resolve that issue.
Evetyday i have this damn problem
Also wifi with sim problem

Hi Folks,
Here's an interesting problem. I have two tilts running the exact same 6.1 code. One is on AT&T serivce and the other is on Tmobile. The AT&T phone is running on HSDPA/3G/Edge/GPRS and the Tmobile is running on Edge.
With no calls, I get two to three days battery life from the Tmobile phone and less than 12 hours with the AT&T phone. Turning off HSPDA on AT&T may give me an hour or so more, but no where near the 2 days the tmobile tilt runs.
The problem is compounded by the AT&T signal strength being very low comapared to tmobile for where I live.
I tried disabling 3G on the AT&T phone, with the Commanager, but I'm then limited to GPRS speeds (~64k/s).
Is there any way to disable 3G and still be able to use Edge?
One word, which I will deny you.. HEHE But I will show you a picture of it.

I already searched. The search lead to kaisertweak which is replaced by advancedconfig. Which doesn't help. The other one led to the commanager that will allow me to disable 3G, but disables wifi and Edge as well.
Thanks for nothing.

I always have 3G turned off on my comm manager and I use edge and wifi just fine.
However, each Tilt is different with battery life, which is strange. Personally my battery life blows but I know a few people who have a much better battery life.
3G is a notorious battery drain, so i keep mine turned off (via Comm Manager) unless I really need it.
Do you have the same programs running on both handsets? Same e-mail accounts? Similar surfing patterns?
What happens if you swap batteries? I'm just wondering if you've got a bad battery, but I have to say that I've never gotten 2-3 days out of my Tilt (running on AT&T.

As said above, 3G eats up batteries. Even 3g iphone users complain about the battery life compared to the older iphones.

Funniest reply I have ever seen!
I can tell a huge difference in battery life if I go some place that only uses edge. Like everyone else said..3G drains the battery. Either you want fast internet or you want long battery...have to pick one.

I have switched the phones back and forth and they are identical down to the radio rom and software. I do have the tmobile one running blackberry connect. I went back and forth between the two to see if it was the blackberry connect software that was eating up the battery. The tmobile phone is lasting 2 days with BB Connect software! And I can't say that the AT&T phone is lasting any longer without the BB connect software running on it.
I tried Commanager, but it apparently disable Edge as well. Aftwards, my phone only connected via GPRS.
I found a thread in the Hermes forum for Bandswitch. I'm trying it on the AT&T Tilt to see how it works. So far it has allowed me to disable UMTS/HSPDA/3G and still connect with Edge/GPRS.
If that doesn't work, the only remaining conclusion i can come up with is that the lower signal quality on the AT&T network is what is sucking up the battery life on the tilt.

you shouldn't have a problem disabling 3G and still use Edge. Just turn 3G off in your comm manager. Then try to connect to the internet. If it won't let you connect you need to change your connection settings.
I think you're making this more difficult than it is.
EDGE: 7 days; 3G: 3 days. I try to keep 3G off whenever possible now. Back when I was staying at my old apartment, I had to rely heavily on 3G to get a clear call through.
Have you tried unlocking both phones and swapping the SIM cards? It could be the device, but doing that would definitely tell you if it was the device or the network...

Yes, both devices are unlocked. it's definitely a network related issue. The problem follows the sim/network and not the phone. Both phones are configured identically with the same Radio and ROM version as well.

I suppose it could be signal quality, but it also may be that your radio works better with T-mo.
I've never had an issue using a Comm Manager to disable 3G only. There are a number of different Comm Managers available, so you might try a different one and see if that works. I tried Bandswitch on my 8525 and it messed up my phone to the point of requiring a hard reset, so different strokes and all that...
You didn't mention if you had tried swapping the batteries. I'd give that a shot and see what happens.

I honestly can't believe the battery life some of you guys are reporting. 3 days? 7 days??? Are you leaving the phone powered off most of the time, or what???
If I turn off edge except when I need it I can get 3 days easy.
Update
Well,
Bandswitch helped me turn off HSPDA/3G and still maintain edge. Initial results are that the phone is lasting longer. Not sure by how much. I'll try different commanagers and see if I can disable 3g and still have edge.
I agree that it could be a phone radio issue where the radio works better with tmobile. My AT&T tilt came with a new SIM, but I did not bother using it since I already had a 3G 64ksim already. I don't know if that could be a factor.
I did not try swaping out the battery because putting the tmobile sim in the at&t phone results with great battery life in the AT&T phone....so I don't think it's a battery issue.
thanks everyone!
Ok, so here my deal. What is up with my answering modem always disconnecting. i cant send texts, receive, browse net, even make calls. It will say dialing then automaticlly exit. I have to do this at least 20 times for it to actually go through, half the time it doesnt cause i get so pissed. Considering i have full or one below full servive. Damn phone is a giant watch. but everything works fine when i am at home. once i leave the house nothing works, all the setting are what they were when i got it.
BTW this is my second tilt. the first one, i got the red light, and AT&T finally sent me a new one.
the second one, no red light, no nothing. everything was working great. i was so stoked. now its doing this crap again. I've done a hard reset to put everything back to normal to see if that works. nothing. when i try to connect to the net, it says the answering modem has been disconnected. why ? why is this doing this ?
Please help me with this.
Thanks

Still nothing. now it wont even load anything. ive tried 3 different roms and changing up the radio. it will get as far as the progress bar with the % and then its says that it a communication error. im getting really fustrated and annoyed, someone please help. everything works fine when im at home but once i leave, nothing. no service,net,calls... damn thing is a giant watch. it will get service for maybe a couple minutes then hit no service again. I dont even know what to do...
is there anyone close in the portland, oregon area that is able to help ?
Well if some people could help me out and post some helpful hints or something that would be great.
im off to work and wont be back on until about 1am or so.
Thanks in advance
WOW. no one ?
thanks for the help..
Restore the original ROM, tell ATT it's faulty too and ask for another replacement?
Try setting it to GSM only (disable 3G) and see what happens.
To do that go to Settings->Personal->Phone->Band->Network Type=GSM.
If it works then, you might want to read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419803

Are you sure you don't have that tab in your phone settings (it might look a bit different)? It looks like this:

yeah im sure. where you have the tabs that say phone/network/pin...
mine run i the order of.. phone/services/network/pin/pin2/time zones/more
and nothing about gsm or choosing anything else are in those tabs.
The phone is a AT&T Tilt. if that makes any difference
Then AT&T is hiding the panel via a registry setting.
The easier way to make it visible again is by using KaiserTweak (get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349009 if you don't have it or if you have an old xml.).
After you get it and install it:
1. Close the Phone Settings app if open
2. Start KaiserTweak
3. Under the "Data (GPRS/Edge/HSDPA/WIFI)" group, find an entry called "Show Band Page".
4. In the drop menu at the bottom, select "Enabled (Advised)".
5. Hit Exit and it should now be visible in the Phone Settings.
wow. totally forgot that i had kaiser tweak. ill try that now
Hi folks. I'd like help on something I noticed ever since I bought my HTC HD7.
My current carrier is Claro (Brazil) but I've also used TIM and Vivo. I do have a data package but I can only surf the net when I'm in a 3G area. As my city does not have 100% 3G coverage, when in 2G I cannot browse at all.
I have tried setting up the APN as directed by the carrier but that did not help at all. I've also ran the HTC Connection Wizard to no avail. Weird thing is, if I put my GSM chip on another phone, everything works including browsing in 2G. This is happening with all the carriers I've used, and the fact that it is working correctly on another phone indicates that this seems to be a configuration issue with Windows Phone.
BTW, I can browse in 3G with or without any APNs set up. So, would it be correct to assume that the data takes a "different route" or uses a different software configuration depending on whether it is on a 3G or 2G area?
Any ideas?
Phone radio issue... the only explanation, My T-Mobile HD7 can't work very well with 850 and 900MHz GSM carriers only 1900MHz (Claro), also a radio issue... but it can use 2G...
If only we could exchange phones. LOL!

Hi++
I'm agree with you ! ( First time I thought it's just about me but then I find out there are so many people like me !)
( Maybe there is some other reason : yesterday I read a news about decreasing of worldwide Internet speed because of a group of crazy Hackers ! if this news is not a Big rumor so ... )
I never trust that kind of news, because if some "hackers" bring down the internet... the REAL hackers will hunt down silently those posers and made them cry like little girls.
Real hackers don't give a flipping coin about "lesser things" like the internet, they are more interested on "giants" to troll... (CIA, FBI, NATO, etc) you name it...
Also, never forget if the news call him/her/them hacker(s), it's in a bad way and it's a lie, just look at George Hotz, great hacker (breaking the PS3, the iPhone), but the news, apple and sony says that he's a menace... and most of the news "hackers" are posers (script kids and other kind of idiots).
Have you ever tried a custom ROM? maybe that could help...

such a Good defend of Hackers community ( o! O! sorry : (let's call them Aliens )
NeverMind , let's get back to our problem :
Tip = First of all try to change your phone region to the other place ( for some people it works ! (Not for me !))
Finally I found the solution ! ( most of the people who taste this problem , upgraded their device to wp 7.8 ) So thats it ,
the first versions of Windows phone 7.8 ( 8858 ) had some problems like Radio issue & ... so last week microsoft released the next version of Wp 7.8 ( 8862 ) with so many Fix (such as fixing the problem with tiles )
If you find other solution ( I'm all ears ! )
GOOD LUCK!
Gosh! Forgot to subscribe to the thread so I could be notified of replies.
@faustolg: never thought about this being a radio issue since I have no problems whatsoever with calls or messages. How come the phone can make and receive calls using 2G frequencies but cannot browse the web?
One wild theory that I have is that maybe the mobile operator is sending configuration commands when the phone is turned on (proxies, APNs, etc) but somehow Windows Phone or the phone hardware cannot recognize those.
@SPIDER-7: What region are you talking about?
A while ago I updated to WP7.8 using the CAB Sender trick posted on XDA-Developers. Did the same thing when upgrading to WP7.5. My phone always was and still is working correctly for everything, except for this 2G issue. I haven't seen any radio updates from HTC for a while, however. The About screen says that the radio software version is 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U, and the radio hardware version is A.12.0.D4.

Just forget what we said, just install Dynamics V2.0 then upgrade with zune to 8862... if you think it's a software issue.
If it works then is OK, and close the thread... Good luck
I was running CM 11 (maclaw's) then for about a month or so I was having incredible slowness on WiFi. After some hours on stand-by, I don't know what happens to my device, the WiFi get super slow. This is what a normal connection looks like:

and this is how a stricken one looks like: (note the ping value)
Then I jumped ship to CarbonROM (also maclaw's). The WiFi problem didn't go away but now I also have a GSM signal cut off problem!:
Like the WiFi problem, after some hours on stand-by the GSM signal cuts off, persists that way until I boot my device.
What could be causing my connection problems? Do you think it's the ROMs? I really need help. I can deal with the super slow WiFi issue but GSM cut off is really serious. (I was apparently called for an interview but couldn't receive the call!)

Install some other rom (not novafusion's) to see if the problem persists (don't forget to make a Nandroid backup first and to change the f2fs to ext4) and update your baseband(from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526831).
I use Android-Andi's SlimKat with none of your problems.
i am using f2fs. do you think the file system has something to do with it?!

I don't think so. I have none of your issues (with CM11, f2fs, system, data & cache). Anyway, you can always try & report your results

Everything work just fine for me. Do a clean flash, if doesn't work forget it or try with other rom
i did a clean install (while installing the latest carbonrom). same thing. bug report still doesn't work. never mind that. i still have problems with the wifi speed dropping significantly after some hours on standby. at least the GSM signal issue seems to be gone―which was the worst bug of all!

does the baseband actually effect WiFI? I thought it was for GSM comm.

Baseband doesn't effect WiFi (it only effect GSM and radio) but the kernel effect WiFi
As xXPR0T0TYPEXx says baseband doesn't affect WiFi but only the GSM and radio (problem to CarbonROM).

unfortunately it does. i tried slimkat. the wifi problem persists.
then i installed maclaw's AOSPA. surprise, surprise(!) the problem is still there.
it's really annoying because when the problem starts, the wifi indicator happily indicates that it is getting full signal. but i am not getting any notifications or i am getting them with a massive delay, because my bandwidth has dropped below 1 mbps with humongous ping value.
i also didn't tinker with my router for a year. it runs the same firmware and same settings.
according here, -i guess- it seems to be a bug with android 4.4.4 :crying:
okay, i tried keeping gps on to see if there was any change...and there indeed was! this time the wifi speed didn't drop (but there was a cut off!):
so i am guessing it's a nasty bug that involves gps: in the absence of gps, wifi speed somehow decides to drop to creeping levels.
then i either have to keep gps on and sacrifice battery life or keep it off and manually on/off wifi every couple of hours :S
I have a stable wifi connection while one of my android gets the proper speed, A2 gets low amount of data at that same time. On a 3MBps package, my other phone crosses 250kbps, while A2 gets some what 110-150kbps in general. I have double checked this matter. FYI, this was in A1 too after updating to oreo. I am on august patch update. Please shed some lights regarding this crucial matter on HOW TO FIX IT
My Mi A2 is losing connection constantly, so it must be a general problem.
I've noticed that 5 Ghz reception isn't as good as my previous phones at long distances, but at short distances I'm getting over 17 MB/s (136 Mbps).
Sent from my Mi A2 using Tapatalk
I've not noticed any issues. Can pull 11MB/sec over wifi no problem.

surprisingly it's the same issue with Mi A1 and official ROM - sometimes drops connection - not customs like LOS or RR.
but due to full treble comptability we should have benefits from flashing GSIs soon
it seems work fine on my device.

Have u find any solution? I have the same problem. Wifi sometimes get too slow to load anything, but in other devices it works perfectly fine.
Same problem here. Have a 200U/10D Mbps package. On 5GHz i pull about 72Mbps and upload 10Mbps which is acceptable (tho I've seen in this thread that the HW can do much more), but on 2.4GHz, it's just hell... I get 2.6 down and 2.2 up. In these tests I was next to the router so they are not affected by distance.
In my case the Mi A2 is pretty much identical speeds with (my router) 5GHz wifi as the other phones I've used recently. That includes Huawei Mate SE, LG G6, Google Nexus 5 and 5x. I'm never connected for more than a few minutes though.
I had the same problem. Then I did a connection reset in the network and internet menu, and that did the trick.

Could you please elaborate how you did the reset please?
Oke to do this go to the settings menu. Choose 'network and Internet' Then in the top right corner click on the 3 dots. Then choose reset.
Did that but didn't help. Still get VERY bad speeds on 2.4 GHz
I have the same problem. I have found a solution for me. Plane Mode and WiFi on. With this i have a normal wifi speed. With activated Sim cards the speed ist slow. Regards
Have you checked, when you have WiFi problems, for CPU stuck at Max freq?
BTW, I had plane mode activated for 2 weeks and never had CPU problems and 1st day I opened it came back.
Found a solution
Hey so what you guys need to do is hold the Wi-Fi icon in the quick menu, and then press Wi-Fi preferences and the press advenced, network rating provider, and then click none. This worked for me.
