Hi guys
I was planning to buy the Samsung Galaxy S Advance as my second phone, it has an dual core 1 Ghz ST-Ericsson U8500 CPU with a Mali 400 GPU from ARM with 768 MB of RAM. and other similar features like the S plus.
According to the stericsson website the U8500 chip supports 1080p video recording but on the gsmarena specs it shows 720p with 30fps (maybe someday could unlock the full hd feature )
The main reason i posted this thread was to ask about it's GPU performance, as it includes the same GPU from the S2.
Will the performance be the same as the S2 ? or somewhere around that ?
And what about the U8500's performance ?
Another Question
Are Dual cores really fast compared to a single core
I own a S plus which has a Qualcomm msm8255t 1.4 Ghz single core cpu, which i find quite fast, it runs CM9 very smoothly.
I'm also considering this phone, and I hope you don't mind I through in another question: is it true what they say that with this being "an upgrade to the Galaxy S" and only available on limited markets we don't have to expect much development and selection in custom ROMs?
I am considering either this, or a Motorola Atrix 4G and I really don't know what to choose...
I actually like it's design, it's somewhat like a mix between the S2 and Galaxy Nexus, more like a baby Nexus.
anyways this phone has great potential as it beats the galaxy R (see benchmarks at gsmarena)
I don't think that it'll get much attention by devs. It's not that the phone's slow, but there won't be as many users as other Galaxy S phones have. You can see what happened to S Plus: it's faster than the Galaxy S, but not even supported by Cyanogenmod, with a very small community. The simple reason why the Galaxy S has more users now than the advanced one will ever have, is that the S once was the best phone out and many people bought it. The Plus and Advanced aren't. They get 1/2 cores when already 2/4 are standard.
LOL i just bought the device it's real smooth was playing some hd games and the performance is really good, the mali 400mp is doing its job just fine and multitasking is pretty good
I don't know about Germany but this device seems to be getting quite popular here in India

A friend got it... but he's Android noob .
I just looked on amazon - for 40€ more you get the S2. IMO it would be the better choice. More RAM, faster, awesome cam. Why didn't you buy it?
I will rather buy S2. I learn my lesson with i9001.
In Croatia "S Advance" is on T-Mobile more than 200£ cheaper SII, therefor I don't see a reason not to buy it, except that it probably will not get much attention from developers.

there's quite a big difference in the price between the advance and the S2, so i chose the Advance over the S2. (and also i liked its nexus like curve, the curved display looks really cool)
Anyways the phone is performing well, for the first time i could play GTA 3 (v1.3) with full graphics without any lags.
and now have started enjoying gaming.
I don't regret buying this phone, maybe when samsung releases ics for the phone it will perform similar to the S2

Nah, if you get past 300€, 40€ aren't a big difference. With the S2, you can replace your cam with the phone, with Advanced you can't take usefull pics. And just look at the awesome dev support. I think Sammy only released the Advanced because of the big critic, that none of the Galaxy S devices gets ICS. Now they can say 'upgrade to advanced' and make money with their bad support. But in the end it's your decision .
I know S2 is a better device but i still liked the look of the Advance, and was quite curious about the new NovaThor chipset
and btw there ain't no news of ICS for the galaxy Advance (I'm starting to worry now )
The phone seems to have some very nice motion controls (like when you double tap on the top of the phone it activates voice search, and the tilt to zoom function)
I'm confused between s advanced and Xperia arc S (both of them at same price ) but i'm scared to get s advance duo to lake of support/deve so what do u think about that nail16??
Xperia Arc S has the same configuration as the galaxy s plus so it's a single core device and has a adreno 205 (the gpu kinda sucks)
I say go for the Advance don't worry about the dev support, it seems to be a powerful phone it will soon be recognized by the devs
Ihope so =D
Theres No XDA support for the phone. So its a big no actually !!
In india also its not that famous :O..!!
Great phone,
you can buy it closed eyes

If this device gets a forum,
I will make Kernels and if time permits , ROMs also..
You can check my work in my signature..
Hi,
I'm deciding beetwen nexus 5 and xiaomi mi 3. Xiaomi has much better camera and battery and 64 gig storage option.
But I can't stand using MIUI.
How stable are CM and Slimkat on mi3 ? Same as official ROM ? No battery drain or lags ? I can't find how they were even possible to make without kernel sources and what Cancro is.
Leaked AOSP is better than custom ROMs ? Performance and stability wise od course.
Thanks !

hey, CM and other custom roms are still in beta stages. There are quite a few bugs major one being random reboots. But there is a leaked AOSP which i am using currently and is pretty solid & stable. I am coming from Nexus 4 & feel the development is pretty slow due to non availability of kernel sources & not many devs use this devices due to known reasons. Still the devs are doing a fantastic jobs with what's available. I personally recommend u to get an Nexus 5 if you have the budget because it is most dev friendly devices offering endless customizations & very very very long support. :good:
Thanks, there is no price difference for me, in fact 64 GB Xiaomi is 20 percent more expensive.
Random reboots here we meet again... Thats why I rejected buying LG G2.

Go with the Nexus 5. We do not know when (if) MI3 sources are gonna be released to the public and MIUI sucks big time. I am seriously thinking of selling the MI3 because I can't stand MIUI anymore. Lots and lots of bugs and no one does anything to solve them. When I bought the phone, my competitors were N5, MI3 and G2. I regret choosing the MI3.
I would say the exact same thing than reneftw.
I've bought the Xiaomi MI3 on a friend suggest after my old samsung GS2 tried to swim in a glass of water.
I've bought without loking to the rom ... miui is quite surprising to the first effect ... no google play (but the Mi Market) and a bunch of chinese application not translated
I miss my stable Cyanogen
I've tried the beta from Cancro but lot of app shutdown unexpectedly. Then the miui photo app is really nice considering the cyanogen one ...
So take the nexus 5 (I should have done this too :| ).
Go for the Nexus 5 if you want custom ROMs and overall awesome community support...
Go for the Mi3 if you are a gamer and do intensive stuff... The Mi3W (India) I have BLOWS away phones thrice it's price in terms of performance...but sadly, custom ROMs are scarce and buggy, AOSP leak is, well, stable, but too bland for me...As for MIUI, I started out apprehensive, but I've actually come to quite like it...if you like lotta customizability and a "hint" of iOS here and there...
I have both the tegra and snapdragon version of mi3.I can keep only one. Which one should I keep. I don't care about 3G. The only thing I care about is which one is faster and better in terms of performance. Thanks.

as far as i know the td version is only for china,
and snapdragon is for the rest of the countries,
regarding speed and performance, snapdragon is a beast its to fast, snappier and gives an awesome performance
and once the kernel sources are released you can expect a hell lot of stable custom roms and kernels for the snapdragon variant,
I know tegra is for China. I got them both from China. I installed international stable rom on both. They are same in all aspects other than processor.
You are saying that snapdragon version will be faster?(I thought the tegra would be faster)

i feel snap is faster then tegra, but you have the devices you can compare the speeds better right ,
and i guess you are running miui roms,
well i was saying about other roms like aosp aisp carbon cm11 they are hell lot faster then the miui rom,so if you go for the snapdragon one,you can have all these roms ,

You're right. More roms and kernels will be available for snapdragon version and since I will root my phone, snapdragon would probably be better. Can you please provide a benchmark so that I can convince myself that they are almost equal in terms of performance?

you have the phone, right?
Just keep the snapdragon version, all around better and there's lots of development for the snapdragon version, plus one day you might need 3g, you'll be stuck on edge with the tegra.

Thanks everyone. The reason I wasn't trying to benchmark the phones was that I wasn't at home (no WiFi) and since tegra version doesn't have 3g I couldn't download antutu. Yesterday I ran antutu on them both. Snapdragon got 41000(40991 to be precise) and tegra got 36000.I am keeping snapdragon version.
Thanks again.Btw sometimes the back bottom and home buttons light don't work properly (turn off after some time). Is this hardware issue or what. I don't really have any problem. I just turn them all of from settings. just wanted to know if anyone knows how to fix this. the menu bottom lights work fine .
I am planning to buy a Zuk Z1 which comes pre-loaded with COS 5.1.1 and still hasn't received COS 13 update; however CM13 is available and pretty stable. Now I'll buy the phone only if it receives CM14 sometime down the road. The phone has a Snapdragon 801. Is there a possibility that it'll receive CM14? I know it's hard to tell for sure but any seasoned people could make some gusses? Any help appreciated.
Personally I wouldn't buy this phone anymore, it's a decent device but you can get better phones for the same amount of money

The OPO should get CM14. It's backed by a very, very strong developer community. Also, why hasn't ZUK seen the likes of MIUI ported? It's already there for OPO.
I'm a crack flasher, so I love trying out all sorts of ROMs, but I'm inept at 'porting' ROMs.

Even I'd love to know about a better phone at this price point.
So zuk z1 will support android 7.0 right??
Sent from my Z1 using Tapatalk
A better phone at this price point may be the the Redmi Note 3 Pro. From what I can see the Redmi has better hardware, faster 64 bit CPU, better screen, cheaper. The ZUK has a better camera, no SD card (bad if you want to flash from SD card or backup to SD card) older CPU but still ok. Front fingerprint scanner is also a plus instead of rear on Redmi. Redmi runs MIUI and CM
If you have had your ZUK Z1 a while are you glad you got this and not the a Redmi note 3?
Right now we can't say anything about COS14 but if the devs at cynogen mod are concerned about this device they might release CM14 for us
but the question is In India during the launch of zuk z1 lenovo claimed that they will provide updates for this device and we did not get a single update up until now
so thankful to the devs at XDA for developing roms and continue the android cycle of this phone
and i hope they do so for Android 7.0
Calm down guys! ?? it will definiely get CM14, unofficial or official.

I agree. I have two major concerns:
1. Availability of CM14 on the device. If not official, then unofficial. The unofficial part is a little dodgy because there aren't A LOT of ROMs for the Z1 which are updated on a daily basis. The updates for a device also depend on how popular a device is among the developer community. I can't really say about the Z1.
2. The aging SD 801. How does it compare to the 64 bit 650?
Other than that, spec-wise, the 64GB memory and OIS wins it over the RN3 for me.

I think from this point is all about preferences. I prefer a large display with a good dpi and colors and 64 Gigs of rom on a marshmallow nuclear rom. Redmi 3 pro is worh it also but i m having it now on spacex rom lolipop waiting to unlock the bootolader
and maybe get a CM rom.

SO which phones are the best competitor to a ZUK Z1?
Yes bro it will receive cm14 officially from cyanogenmod not from android
I wouldn't recommend the ZUK Z1 to anyone. Btw, typing this from my Z1.
The phone and the hardware is great. It's the crappy Cyanogen that makes the phone trash worthy.
Cyanogen is upto its neck with bugs. I too was excited when I first bought the Z1 but now repent that decision after using for 3 months.
Again, the phone is great. The OS is crap.
Experimental buil 7.0 launched on one plus one ...so wait

Right now I'm using this phone, specifically K20 Pro Premium (512/12GB). Should I upgrade to recently announced 12T Pro? I prefer customizable phone (like good custom rom support) but with my little research even 11T Pro doesn't have proper custom rom yet beside xiaomi.eu. What are the reason for that and will 12T Pro have the same curse?

The price and popularity are surely the brakes on development as well as the A12/A13 restrictions.
There are AOSP roms for the 11t pro but it's stagnating, not sure if it's going to continue (I deleted my RiceDroid thread because the links were deleted).
A lot of developers switch to telegram and no longer publish on XDA.
Currently on a 12 pro no rom except Xiaomi had rom while source code for A12 has been released for 8 months.
I had an 11t pro but disappointed with the autonomy I took the 12 pro and I don't regret since for better performance I have the same autonomy(with less battery), it could be much better but Xiaomi prefers to sell rather than optimize processors.
I also had the Poco F2 pro where we had to launch a crowdfunding to get roms.
To conclude, by buying a 12 t pro you risk waiting a long time to have Aosp roms.
This device looks interesting but what good is a bigger battery on the new soc consumes more than the old one
I don't know if you made a decision yet, but in case you didn't yet (or for anyone else in the same boat) I want to give you my point of view. (Writing this on my T12 Pro)
Untill now there's not even a XDA device page for the T12 or T12 Pro or K50 Ultra (basically T12 with Snapdragon 8+ Gen1). So I don't expect the custom ROM support to be good.
Someone mentioned the long wait for unlocking the bootloader to be a reason but I doubt that's the main one. It seems like none of the recent Xiaomi phones have any really good custom ROMs available. I think MIUI not being the best base to build a custom ROM on could be a big reason for developers to stay away from it.
If you really prioritize good custom ROM support, why not go for a OnePlus or even a Google Pixel (or another brand with good custom ROM support)? I don't know how the ROM development is or will be for the newer phones, but the OnePlus 8T that I switched from had some good ROMs available. I switched mainly because I found a really good offer for it, €650 which I can deduct the tax from, and a free Redmi Pad along with it that I'll sell. If I manage to sell the Redmi Pad for €250 and the 8T for €300 I'll have made €13 on upgrading my phone.
Using the phone I'd say the only thing that's a big difference for me is the bigger screen, bit other phones can do that too (not many with a flat panel though, which I like about the T12 series). The Snapdragon 865 was already powerful enough for anything I threw at it including prolonged COD gaming sessions at highest settings, while staying cooler than the T12 Pro does. (Not that the T12 Pro overheats that much but it definitely does get warmer than the 8T).
The camera on the T12 Pro can produce better results, however for point-and-shoot I think the 8T will produce more consistent results because it's more optimized. Maybe Xiaomi will fix it with software updates but for now this is my experience with it, though I've only had the device for 3 days now so my experience with the newest MIUI is limited. I've already found one bug and multiple gripes with it though.
For me I'll probably use the device for half a year until I can renew my contract and find another deal for a phone that suits me better. For now I don't mind using MIUI; I immediately requested a bootloader unlock though to install the Xiaomi.eu ROM and root. I might also end up installing Pixelify on it if I get tired of MIUI (no experience with Pixelfy yet but seems an interesting alternative to custom ROMs), which would hopefully give me at least somewhat of a stock experience.
If you're happy with your current phone and the only thing you'd like on top is a good custom ROM, I'd say keep it for a while, and maybe try Pixelify to change things up a little.
If you really want another ROM but you're happy with the rest of the device, maybe try to get a similar phone used, preferably Snapdragon 865 or newer, with good ROMs already available. (I'd only buy used if you can pick it up locally and check the device)
If you want or can only buy a new phone, and prioritize custom ROM support, go for a brand that is known to have good custom ROM support.
If a Custom ROM isn't your main priority and you can get a deal like I did, go for it. In my case I can sell it for more than it costed me, maybe even a year down the line.
