Regarding the dual camera modules...

Curious thing - I was trying to find out which camera was the zoom so I used my finger to block each side on the 1x and 2x settings, only to find that the central module (nearest the fingerprint sensor) was being used on both settings, and the more lateral module only came into play with live focus.
I would have thought that using 2x would switch modules.
Can someone explain how the modules work?

Funny, I never realized this as well. Just tested on mine and confirmed as well. Applies to video as well (not just photo) - 1x/2x seems to use the middle lens.

TLDR: The wide/main lens has better low light image quality than the telephoto lens. When taking a picture outdoors, the scene is bright enough that the telephoto lens will be used when you click on the x2 icon. If you take the picture indoors, even with artificial light, the phone sees the you get a better picture from the main lens so it uses that instead, and then crops the picture to get the zoom effect.

Horrible touchscreen latency / lag / delay

I recently bought the P20 Pro and noticed a big issue concerning touchscreen lag / delay / latency. same problem as on honor 9:

Playing FPS or PUBG that requires precision becomes completely unplayable.
Do you have this problem? Any solution?

I am experiencing the same issue as well, noticed it initially in pubg.
Any luck solving the issue since posting? I suspect it's related to the firmware though.
I am now considering returning the phone due to this issue, real shame because I really like everything else about it.

Not sure, it's not a multitouch problem. But more a single touch issue with some delay/latency. Hope a new firmware can solve this.

I just installed it, got it on ultra and no latency problems. A bit of load lag but thats the gpu/cpu

Ok thanks, I'll go to my local store to try the P20 and maybe considering changing my P20 Pro, my 2 years old 150€ Redmi Note 3 has no issues like this, such a shame...

I learned a lot owning Huawei, I always go through the initial setup then factory reset it before I put my Sim in and my p20 pro has 0 lag issues.... It's on the C605rom

I turned off the 3 settings but the issues still there, try to make really tinny circles on a zoomed webpage and you will notice it.
EDIT: if you have some apps using a slider (I'm using Deezer), you will notice you can't be precise, I can't manage to easily set the Smart Cache value in Deezer :/

You are right, simple tap is not detected for me too. Impossible to work with precision (Citrix...). I have send an email to Huawei customers service. I let you know

I checked on my wife's Honor 8 on Sunday and no issue. It seems Huawei ignored the issue with the Honor 9 so we probably won't have a fix.

Nothing interesting from Huawei support. They send me back to my retailer. I will compare with p20 Pro at store.

Scrolling seems to behave slightly strangely - it stops moving almost as soon as I remove my finger from the screen so there's no real inertia or acceleration. Is that standard for everyone or is it related to these latency issues - my old S7 Edge scrolled much more freely?

That's an issue with Flickr. Not sure why, but from a phone they dont upload full res I think. Lightroom mobile is used by me for all photos. You should try it, the free version of Lightroom mobile is excellent, one of the best at straightening a shot even if its just 0.1 adjustment.

Was tried that couple of days ago. Was very excited when it opens, but seconds after that freeze. On mine old phone use gCam regularly and have better results. Idk whats the problem with Kirin? Why devs didn't make and for Kirin soc? Sources or something else?!

really bad on Honor Play was working good and only a bit of settings modify was needed! Night Sight was working too but with artefacts on shadows.
Yeah Huawei / Honor now is like Apple, totally closed system ( only way to unlock is to pay a lot of money )
kirin is a custom and closed source, not supporting camera api2 stock that is needed for FULL mode gcam to work, gcam was born for google pixel on qualcomm board. Ports on Exynos and Kirin are only partially working, can't fully benefit of gcam.
For modding better stick with Qualcomm CPU and an unlockable phone with easy ( like xiaomi, oneplus )

That way I am waiting for selling this phone and get xiaomi . never back to huawei

Moto G6 plus... My nephew have one and in some situations camera is better than Mate 20 Lite's one. Its a Qualcomm device so will be able to install gCam for alternative. Its decent phone general.
Other than that Mate 20 Lite is not bad at all. Camera is good especially in pro mode on low levels iso, around 125-250, takes crisp and detailed photos. Most of the time i use spot metering and auto wb. Shutter speed depending. Have good burst mode also. Its a aspherical lens and takes nice pleasant colors. Great resolution, 20mpx are great to crop images. Its not exactly "Point and shoot" type camera if you need such. You must play bit with settings to get maximum of the sensor but to me is good enough. Video is not something that is important to me. Its a 1080p 60/30fps recommend to stay with 30fps bcoz have EIS. Generally it take some time to me, to get accustomed with camera but now i enjoy it! Take time to search and try different devices, read and watch reviews and pick right for you needs to avoid disappointment...

You never need root for Google Cam. You only need someone to make it work with the device.
So far, no luck.
But, the camera is already great. It has the same sensor as Oneplus 7 pro and that phone is one of the highest on the dxomark list:

I compared the camera to Galaxy S9, and it seems to take better photos than GS9.
But yeah, Google Cam would make it even better.

Do you happen to have the apk exact name? Also, are you using a config file?
EDIT: I tried both apks in the MI9 thread with two suggested config files.
I only shot in a dimly lit indoors scene, and the results were horrible (both 48 and 12 mpx.) Difficulties to focus. Noise was so bad, I've never seen anything like that before.
By comparison, the stock camera was like night and day, so much better.

I am using the following apk... GCam-6.2.030_Arnova8G2_Urnyx05-v1.8.apk
I also get better results with the stock camera, but I was assisting in the thread. Also if you look at the OnePlus 7 pro they have some exposure settings that do assist with the dark results.

No fault of your own, thanks for the extra info.
What do you mean "they have some exposure settings" though? Some kind of a config file?
Also, it seems like unless someone buys the phone and sends it to Arnova, the Google Cam may not really come to fruition for this phone.
At the same time, I'm well satisfied with the stock camera app. It just doesn't have the same processing power as the Google Cam at preserving detail.

Hello and thank you for this wonderful app.
I downloaded and installed this HyperCam version,which is working very well on my LG V30 oreo stock rom.
I have one issue when i make a portrait capture and i go to the app's photo viewer..my portrait photos don't open and the app crashes at the same time.
When i open these photos from phone's gallery,i can see them without any issue..
I have to refer that i have all the app configs as they were by default.
My second question is how can i use your xml.configs.
I already created a separate Hypercam folder with your xml.file in it,of the form "Hypercam/Configs/FULL CHUAN NHAT.xml",but when i try to load it in the app,i get a notification"You don't have any configs!".
Could you please explain us a way how to load xml.configs?
