Currently running a stock sprint oreo rom that is rooted and bootloader unlocked. I'm wanting to switch to the Ota release of pie for sprint a locked bootloader temporarily. Anyone have suggestions on going back to full stock?

So the bootloader on the N1 is designed to be easily unlocked, yet it voids the warranty. Also, it can't be re-locked. Can someone explain exactly why it can't be re-locked? Is it because Google / HTC can't guarantee what low level changes have been made? If so, shouldn't it be technically possible to flash some sort of master image that overwrites the entire phone back to default, including the lock?
If I've unlocked the bootloader, and either keep the stock OS or go back to the stock OS after trying Cyanogen, will OTA updates work? That is, does the unlocked bootloader prevent OTA updates, or just a non-stock OS?
There's a looooong thread about this in Development.
Guess I'm search challenged, because I can't find that thread. Can you point me to it, or summarize it?
Here you go man... start here:

Whoa. Ok, I see what you mean.
Anyone know about my other question?:

OTA updates are not affected by unlocked bootloaders.
you don't need OTA updates when you are running a custom ROM....We get all the OTA stuff BEFORE, repeat BEFORE, OTA even comes out....Un-lock it and get the best and badest!!
Hey. I have a stock android 4.2.2 sorta but I want to flash it over to PagePlus, do I have to downgrade? and If I upgrade the software any way for me to keep the settings for Pageplus without flashing again
I have read so much on this issue, that I have gone completely mad. May I ask a few questions ?
1. I had the 5.01 unlocked and rooted, but i unrooted and locked back in order to get the official OTA push from Google. ( I know, locking back is not necessary but I love the safety)
2. In this situation, locked and unrooted running stock 5.01, is it still possible to be bootlooped by an official OTA from Google? (I have that "allow OEM unlock" checked.
Basically the question is, are people running unmodified versions of the N6 still in danger?
Thank you,
G
No. The issue is effecting people who flash the 5.1 bootloader and then try and run a 5.0X ROM.

It should be noted that you can flash 5.1 and restore a TWRP backup and revert back but you can't run a 5.0X ROM after upgrading to 5.1. I restored a TWRP just fine when I decided to restore back to my 5.02 Terminus ROM.
I have an xt1058 which is running Android 4.4.0 build 140.44.5.ghost_att.ATT.en.US. I've downloaded and installed Sunshine and am planning to unlock the bootloader as all tests passed without issue. What I am wondering is, after I do this can I take any OTA updates or will this cause me to lose the bootloader unlock?
Of particular concern is incompatibility between older versions of the bootloader and ROMs based on newer Android versions. I ran into this with my Atrix HD which also had an unlocked bootloader. The bootloader on that device was based on Android 4.3 Jellybean. I could not flash any ROMs for MSM8960 devices which used newer bootloaders, for example I always needed to use CM versions with Jellybean bootloader.
Will I have similar issues with my Moto X once the bootloader is unlocked?
Thanks!
No issues, flash latest XT1058 AT&T ROM, and you are in safety. Once unlocked, bootloader can't be locked by any app, but your hands. And there will be no more OTA for this phone.
Btw, you can use Safestrap (for free) on Android 4.4, it will give you possibility to use any stock ROM up to 4.4.4. If you need CM, or 5.1 stock, then yes, Sunshine only.
Just to be clear, I have now successfully unlocked my bootloader using Sunshine (I see the "warning bootloader unlocked" splash at boot up, and have also booted into bootloader and I see "device is UNLOCKED".
I am currently on build 140.44.5.ghost_att.ATT.en.US which is Android 4.4.
Ultimately what I want to do is get rooted but be running stock 5.1. I don't want to go to a custom ROM right now, but don't want to do anything that would prevent me from doing that later. That's why I unlocked the bootloader now.
I am planning to use this process to root the phone:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/step-step-instructions-unlocking-t2649738
Once this is done, what is the easiest way to move to stock Android 5.1 but not lose root and bootloader unlock/s-off ?
My advice would be - don't update to 5.1 official, it's very very buggy and you'll want to get rid of it very fast.
The best you can do for this phone atm, if you want anything above 4.4 is to go for Mokee 6. It's nearly perfect MM.
I have a Pure Edition xt1095 with unlocked bootloader and stock Android 6.0 OTA. I just installed TWRP 3.2.1 and took a nandroid. However if I ever wanted to go back to stock without using the nandroid backup, is there any reason I cannot flash the Motorola stock 5.1 image (found here) and then take the OTA again to get back to 6.0 ? I have searched and most of the posts say it can be done but the individual was coming from CM or some other non-stock ROM. My concern is that by taking the OTA stock 6.0 firmware I have somehow updated my bootloader version and it will no longer allow me to revert back to the 5.1 image. Can anyone confirm or deny?
