What will happen when replacing stock apps via adb??? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,so i have recently been playing around a bit with my XZ2. My device is not rooted so i am rather limited with regards customising appearance etc,but still i have managed to get most of my apps etc to have dark backgrounds and have even replaced the stock phone, contacts and messages apps with the google version of each as i prefer their appearance. Now what i would like to know is this,if i remove the stock sony phone, contacts and messages apps, would and could this cause any issues??? I plan to do so with adb commands, could anyone tell me please if it would be okay to do it as i am now sitting with two of each of these apps in my app drawer.
Also, i noticed that there is a port available of the new xperia home launcher from the Xperia 10. Is it fully functional and can i still set it up to have three different home screens like i currently have with the stock XZ2 home launcher.

[Q] What Bloatware have you frozen/uninstalled without incident?

On my LG Revolution My SystemPanel App shows about 350 MB memory and 12 GB on the SD card. It also cites System Storage 1 GB, Application Storage 1.5 GB and Cache 193 MB. The SuperBox app shows 1.5 GB "Phone" memory. With about 25 applications "active" and several widgets installed, I still have 134 MB memory left
So far I've found the battery life not great, definitely have to charge during the day with 4lte and wifi on.
Noticed a bunch of the bloatware widgets took up memory even when I deleted them from the homescreen. Used TitaniumBackup to Freeze
Apps I've frozen with no apparent problems (yet).

Ya, coming from the incredible, even stock I would have 100-150 mbs of ram, and rooted I'd have usually 180-210. This phone, having the same amount of ram as that, will be anywhere from 30-100 usually. That's some pretty bad bloat.
In 3g only network, the phone actually has a really good battery(compared to the incredible), I can go all day without root so far, the baddest part is the % i lose just sitting there without use and the screen off, it sucks.
And have you been able to assign Google where Bing had priority before? I have the bing search relatively good, just really laggy.
Thanks for this list! I had started to experiment but kept it on the safe side since we don't have a recovery yet.
I noticed that there is quite a bit more listed in Bloat Freezer over Titanium which was my first freeze app. I tried Bloat Freezer when I noticed that some things that were frozen were still showing running processes.
A couple of notes to add on to this -- I'm running Go Launcher and cannot use any of the LG specific widgets, Friends+, What's New, etc. but:
What's New is still running and has functionality beyond the What's New widget. I forget the details but I think on a missed call I got the What's New app to display missed call, sms and email count from the pull down alerts. It was late and I didn't think twice about it until the next day (which is what prompted me to find out what was still running in the background even though I'm using Go Launcher.
I'm not sure exactly which Verizon app is responsible, but i recently unfroze all Verizon specific apps while experimenting and I was prompted to try the new data usage widget from Verizon. When I originally froze all these apps, that widget had stopped working in stock home. So it is not dependent on your home/launcher, but it is dependent on one of the VZ apps.
I'm tempted to just go down your list and freeze everything all at once, but maybe I'll do it in small batches and report back any findings.
Again, thanks for the list!
Wow, that is a ton of frozen bloatpops... didn't think too much of it but that's more apps than i had on my Inc. total on CM.. lol.

I also just completely uninstalled bing search + bing voice.
I seem to be experiencing a couple issues:
1. Search button did not remap to Google Search... so it does nothing at all
2. Lockscreen music controller seems to control a separate instance of the notification area music controller
Avail: 154MB +29MB in 4
(bah!)
I've gone through most of these without a problem -- the last one is VZWSERVICE which is now repeatedly popping up:
Sorry!
The application com.vzw.push.vzwservice (process com.vzw.push.vzwservice) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I'll add a few more to the list:

I'm curious though what purpose do these serve:
SNS
VZW SMS Filter
VZWService
I have them frozen and already recieved an SMS, so no hindrance there. I recognize the SNS icon from when I first got the phone (one of the widgets I think). I can't see any effect of having them frozen other than the obvious of course.
Be careful with these, I used Bloat Freezer to freeze a small subset of the apps listed in this thread (and none others) and now don't have a home screen. I turn on the phone, slide to unlock, and then the screen is black (normal indicator icons at the top). Holding home gets me to a recent apps page with no recent apps. Nothing else does anything, I can't even turn off the phone without taking the battery out. Any ideas?
the ones i posted can be frozen with no incident.
of course i use a custom launcher (launcher pro) so i can't attest to the home screen working
however, after freezing some other apps listed in other posts my bluetooth wouldn't work...
I use Go Launcher and I was able to add a few to the lists above:
Tunewiki
Sync Service
Mobile IM
Messaging Widget
Messaging (I use GO SMS)
Does anyone know what the LG and Verizon hidden menus processes are?
System seems a lot faster now and has better battery as far as I can tell.
Only issue I can think of, is that When I have my BT earpiece on and connected, I can not seem to get music out of the 3.5mm jack and into the car's aux.
Anyone else have this problem? What is the solution?
What wifi tether is everyone using? My market won't update. So if anyone can post an apk that'd be great.
Also don't freeze autorun 1.0 i think it is. That is the connectivity option for our usb and hdmi slots. Without that it'll work but you can't change the options ever. So you'll be stuck with hdmi off or on and usb charge only cause i think it always starts as.
Little Buddy Sr.
OP:...just a thought, take it or leave it haha
It would be greatly appreciated if you could update the list every so often with new ones added throughout the thread. Then maybe this could become a sticky at some point.
Also:
Anyone else realize Latitude and Twitter for LG doesnt show up in Ti Backup yet is running every once in awhile.... or maybe it's just my phone?
Um I don't even remember twitter being on my phone, I use bloatfreezer and pretty much froze everything on the OP list. I don't think there is to much else that you want to freeze with out risking your phone

If you use the stock launcher and then freeze Home 2.2.2 then you will have no home screen.
I use Go launcher EX so I was able to freeze home with no problems.
Only thing I can think of is a factory reset. But I'm sure others have better ideas.
I don't think Twitter for LG (or anything for LG) is active without the LG Home active.
I left lg home active, twitter doesn't show up anywhere in bloatfreezer. I have nothing on my phone that even refers to twitter.
Yea i'm not really sure where it's at. I think it's a sub-app(?) of something like one of those facebook/twitter/etc feed widgets. But every so often it shows up in my "running" folder on Go Launcher EX, and I used to see it in my task killer when I had one but i've never seen it on a list anywhere else.
rogue bloat? a new age in ruining our phones haha
As major said, and from what i've seen he's right 99% of the time, I haven't seen it since I froze/.bak LG Home. I'll post a screen shot if I end up seeing it again though
is there a reason that we can not just delete the .apk files from /system/app?

we're pretty much able to do that....but the hesitation has been because we have not had a recovery system and it's risky to start deleting any files at all.
However....a recovery system has been through testing lately(yesterday/today) and was released. There's no saying it's perfect but I haven't heard of anyone having big issues. So if you are comfortable with the recovery system available, delete away.

Hopefully you have this fixed already if not:
not sure if this will work but...connect your phone as a USB and hope it connects as a Mass Storage. Go into data/app and delete the Titanium Backup .apk
No idea if this will work, but it's possible that with TiBackup gone it will unfreeze everything.

[Q] Using LG Optimus 2X as a PMP need some help...

Hello all very long time lurker but am here now for some help. So a few questions and description of what i wish to achieve.
I have a POS iPod touch 4th gen that I have had 2 and half years or something and really want to replace. Also have an Xperia X10 and shortly will have an LG Optimus 2X. The X10 will function for phone duties until the Xperia TX become available in Australia.
Back the the O2X though. Now turning an android phone into a Portable Media Player (PMP) is something I have been wanting to do for a while now. Naturally though this brings up a few things that will not be needed.
For the music front end I will be using Player Pro and Pics and videos will primarily be held and viewed in QuickPic.
The phone will still need to retain wifi and bluetooth capabilities, however I want to fully disable all other forms of connectivity as I will have no need of it and will not be using a sim in the phone as this will be dedicated to music, movies and pics. So does anyone know the best way gor me to go about that?
I will also have a hell of a lot of unused and unwanted apps. I would love to be able to really strip the phone back and free up as much space as possible. Now in the past I have been able to uninstall pre-installed apps from my X10. I am just unsure how to go about it on the O2X. Does anyone know how I would go about completely removing the phone, contacts, calander, stock music, stock gallery and other assorted apps?
I would also need to be using a kernel with the voodoo sound mods for the wolfson DAC. Now I was wondering if there was any recommendations there?
Finally I would also like a recommendation of the most stable ICS based ROM to go with the voodoo kernel. I would like the ROM to also include a modifiable set of notification bar widgets so I can easily turn on and of things like wifi, bluetooth, gps, airaplane mode and adjust brightness. Anyone know of anything that would fit the bill?
Must also come with a working camera app (does not need to has video recording working or panorama just basic camera duties please). Any other suggestions that you may think of feel free to post them.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope some of you can help me out here on my project to make an Android PMP out of a great little Android Phone.
Stoner
Note to mods: hope I am posting in the right section, feel free to move it if I am not.
Since connectivity is already built in into the android OS, you can't disable it, but I think keeping your phone in airplane mode all the time should do the trick. Anyway, taking out the sim card already disables all connectivity that involves telecommunications.
If you want to remove system apps, you have to root your phone first. The forum already has so many guides on rooting. Then all you have to do is use any root file manager, go into system/app and delete the apps there. Not everything can be deleted though, some are crucial for the functioning of the phone.
The other way is to download a rom, open the zip and delete everything you don't need that's under system/app and install it. No guarantees that your phone will boot up though, if you happen to hit an app that is crucial for the rom to work. Then you can flash the rom and it's done.
There are many kernels that use voodoo, just find one that fits any rom of your choice.
Finally: ICS roms still have some bugs, seeing that you are going to use it as a PMP, I recommend not upgrading to ICS or later until roms made from LG's sources start popping out. I hear that CM10 (that runs on jellybean) will be released shortly after LG releases their ICS update.
Almost all roms have a camera app, no worries there!
TL;DR Install any rom you'd like that seems to fit the bill. Root your phone, open the particular rom's zip file and remove apps you don't need that are in system/app, flash it to your phone (with recovery mode of course). Flash kernel to your liking.
Looks like LG is no better than Sony when it comes to OS Updates haha
shall look at stock based Rome for now then. Try and find a JB skinned one if possible.
Then play trial and error with what apps I can remove before flashing and which I have to leave and possibly just freeze. New it was something simple but its been a while. I hope I can remove all the basic apps that make it function like a phone otherwise I guess I will make do with freezing and hiding them. Love removing all clutter possible.
Will be waiting to see if CM10 can come along much less buggy than all the CM9 and ICS ROMs that I have looked at. Silly LG hampering the development of ROMs because there isn't an official ICS update to work off and its late 2012 already. Hoping for some good news though with what I have read about SK and them getting ICS.

[Q] Can I replace the ENTIRE Touchwiz gui, and it's apps?

Hello,
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini (GT-i8190). I love that phone's size, the 4" screen and the cpu&ram&storage spaces are enough for me.
But (!)
I hate touchwiz. It's lagging, it's have some ugly icons, functions, and GUI elements. I love the HTC's Sense gui, and the android 4.2's stock gui is clean, logical, and pretty too. I tried to use some of launchers but using a launcher is not a solution, because these launchers uses more of RAM (and the Samsung apps are running in the background). I'd like to use a SGS3 Mini with original android OS without any idiot samsung apps.
Is there a solution for that? What about CyanogenMod? I know they have an alpha5 version, but if I install that rom, I won't be able to use my phone as a phone...
Thanks,
Richard
If you are rooted, you can remove Samsung Apps with Titanium Backup or some other app altogether with Touch Wiz launcher and install whatever launcher (Holo, Go, etc) you like.
Today the first usable version of CyanogenMod was released by macław at www.maclaw.pl, give it a try if bugs don't scare you.
Aside TB and freezing bloatware as already suggested, Root is a must, then do some read and eventually deodex and install enox theme, install Nova prime or any other good launcher and choose icon theme of your choice. No memory hogging etc and all the same you can have great looking and performing interface...

Recent Apps shortcuts?

Hi
I'm new around this part of XDA. I just bought an Xperia Z1 from Kijiji for $350 (Great find actually everything runs great!) The screen is great, camera also, no weird issues AT ALL.
I only have 1 little thing bothering me and was wondering if it's possible to do anything about it without flashing a whole different ROM.
So here's my question :
Is it possible to completely remove the shortcuts at the bottom of the Recent Apps list? I don't mind rooting/unlocking BL but I'd prefer to stay on stock rom if possible for the time being (It's running 4.2.2, I want to update. I do plan on unlocking BL and hopefully root can be achieved through recovery if I'm correct?
So yeah all these wonderful questions I'm asking myself, the real question I'm here to ask is : Is it posible to completely remove the shortcuts at the bottom of the Recent Apps list? (Xposed, Framework edits) Any ideas?
One other, much less important question... What the heck is the Fifa 2014 logo doing on the box?
Any help is appreciated
Anyone?
It's the only thing that bugs me about the Sony UI that I don't know how to fix; the Notification toggles being the other thing I can fix (Xposed).

Deleting Bloatware

Hi Guy's/Girl's,
So i just successfully rooted my device with SuperSu and I'm looking to delete some bloatware, I've read good things about Titanium so i thought i'd give it a go. I'm mainly just removing all the stuff i don't use on this Tab to speed it up as all im doing with it is playing Mobile Legends and browsing, I've noticed that after removing app's their icon is still viewable in the draw but when i click on it nothing happens.. Does this mean that the app has been successfully removed and i just need to hide the icon?
I was also wondering would i be able to delete TouchWiz if im using another launcher (NOVA Launcher) or will it bug out?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers.
I generally freeze things in Titanium initially. Then, if no problems crop up after a reasonable time, I'll go back in an uninstall. If problems *do* crop up, I can thaw the app with (hopefully) no harm done.
That said, I've left TouchWiz alone since it is tied fairly tightly to the whole OS (and yes, I do use Nova).
