Well that depends on what model you are referring to... Since you've been a member here for almost 4 years, you should know to include that kind of information when asking a question like this
Does this device have a locked bootloader like the Moto's of old where you cannot unlock it?
I'm talking about the International/UK device, Not a US version?
I was looking at ordering one as the Nexus 6 is way too big, but I want to be able to Root & Rom this sucker.
Ta
You can unlock it just fine. I did. Only some variants in the US doesn't allow unlocking.

Proceed with caution regarding expectations for custom ROM development for Moto X. I suspect that they will be few and far between.

Mmm, that's what's always put me off Motorola phones.
I've been reading and it seems there are certain build numbers that can't be rooted or unlocked. Can someone spell out for mewhat I need to look for when purchasing a s5 so that I can unlock and root it? Thanks in advance.

It is the AT&T and Verizon Galaxy S5's that can't be bootloader unlocked. This is also the reason why you aren't able to root as easily either.
So if I buy an unlocked device, I'll be good?

No. You need to get the phone from Tmobile (tmobile version). Both ATT and Verizon has bootloader locked.

Motorola X4 Models :
-XT1900-01 USA Carrier Friendly / Project Fi Model
-XT1900-07 Amazon Alexa Model
I spoke to Motorola to find out model numbers and if the 01 Model is Bootloader Unlockable, and unfortunately it is not.
what? then how come is root only tested and working allegedly on xt1900-1? I'm getting so confused haha. I only know mine is xt1900-6.
The bootloader is unlockable on the XT1900-01
I want to get this phone, but I'm afraid of getting the wrong phone for Verizon and getting stuck with a locked bootloader phone.

Yes hope for the best.
From what we've been able to discern from testing is just the opposite of what the CS agent told you. The Amazon version is the one you can't unlock the bootloader (probably because they are afraid you can disable the lock screen ads that way). Nobody's paid Amazon yet to remove them (apparently you can pay the difference between the "with ads" version and the regular retail price if you want Amazon to remove them), so we don't know if that enables bootloader unlock or not.

I'm pretty certain there is no Verizon version of the X4.
AFAIK, in the US there are three versions:
Amazon Prime Ads
Android One
Unlocked for all major carriers

I didn't mean to imply that any version of the X4 would not work on Verizon. My wife has the US Unlocked X4 and we use Verizon.
I mean to say that Verizon does not sell the X4. There is no Verizon branded X4, that I know of.
I have the Amazon version with ads and Alexa but my model# is :XT1900-1
Will I be able to unlock the bootloader?

Follow the instructions on this website (to see if it can be unlocked) - You don't have to actually unlock the device.

Report back here and let us know. I have the XT1900-1 and I unlocked the bootloader.

So let me get this straight, I could buy the Google Fi version and pop my Moto x pure Sim card in and activate the phone on Verizon's network correct?

Is there anything that restricts you from putting lineageos on the Moto x4 currently on Amazon for $130?

Yes.
You cannot unlock the bootloader on the Amazon Exclusive version. So no custom ROM possible.

Amazon is not allowing to do that or is Motorola's policy? I was thinking in requesting unlock the bootloader from Motorola's website myself.

I am guessing that it was Amazon's policy as they are "subsidizing" the cost of the phone by branding it Prime Exclusive (with Amazon apps, etc).
Pretty sure you will simply get an error if you request the unlock code. BTW, if you successfully received a code (which you wouldn't in this case), your warranty would be voided even if you didn't ultimately apply the code on your phone.

That sucks! I got it just to put custom ROM on it. $129.00 worth the try, but what a shame. Not even a single method to try root?
