The thing that really blows me away that hasn't been discussed in most reviews or here is the screen resolution on this 7 inch tablet with a dpi of 213. The text looks so crisp on a web page, close to ipad 3 almost (i know it is not).
As a matter of fact, because of getting use to this clear text, I had a few days left on my return policy for the Asus TF300, which I use to think had a very nice screen, but now the text seems blurry to me. I have heard the same from people switching from ipad 1 or 2 to ipad 3.
Thus, I have decided to return my tf300 and just ordered an Asus TF700 for use as my 10 incher.
Anyone else getting too use to this type of resolution?

Resolution is definitely very nice especially in comparison to my moms iPad 2 from work.

Um... well, the ppi on the Nexus 7 is not really that high. It is higher than that of most tablets out there, but it is lower than almost all current gen Android phones, and even some previous ones. So if you have been at least staring at a Nexus One with a ppi of 254, this should not be all that impressive. Though you do hold it further away from your face.
However it is indeed very impressive by tablet standards. The previous gen iPads had a horrendous ppi of 132. And I believe the highest ppi of any Android tablet is currently found on the 499$ Transformer Prime Infinity with a ppi of 224. So the Nexus 7 surely packs quite a bang.

Seconded. The resolution is very nice, and the color tone is way better than the iPad 3 retina display. That one is just too...warm? It ends up yellowing and dulling colors in a weird way.

Funny... that is exactly what I would say about the 7. Way too warm compared to the rest of my devices (IPad 3, Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3). Its kind of annoying really. I'm adapting though because I love the size.
My original intention was to get the TF700, i decided that saving $230+ was a better choice and went with the N7 and i love the screen. No complaints about the resolution. :good:
I should make my 800x480 pentile SGS phone look like crap in comparison which is the main reason why I'm getting one.
I watched the transformer movie on it. It looks awesome.

No wonder the nexus one display was amazing. From that phone I went on to galaxy then sensation and always thought the nexus one was better in display.

I know the feeling. I upgraded from the iPad 1 to the iPad 3 and I can't even look at the Old one anymore.
Thankfully the N7 has a high res screen so it'll be tolerable by my eyes.
No, because i'm used to 284 DPI on my Galaxy Note. The Nexus 7 has a good screen (especially for the price), but it's nowhere near as good as the AMOLED on the Note.
I agree with th op. screen is great quality. out of all tablets, infinity pad is the best and nexus 7 comes in close second. the text is really crisp and hd movies look really good on it.
For the price its a good screen... but nothing compared to my iPad 3.
It still blows away my pad 1 and my playbook!

Screen will look better than most other tablets except for the new iPad... The clarity won't be as good as your HTC one x because it have more ppi on a smaller screen size... We should not compare tablet screen vs cellphone screen because the phone will always win assuming were talking high end phones!

I guess I did have tablets in mind when I posted this, never even thought about comparing to phone.
However, i would be interested in this comparison though. Web browsing is where I see the effects of a high rez screen the best due to text size. On people with phones that have better dpi like Galaxy nexus, if you open up a web site in ITS DESKTOP VERSION like yahoo.com (and if you have font size set to Normal), can you still read the small texts pretty well? Would be interesting to see the effects of large dpi but on a smaller screen.
I think the screen looks amazing. For the price you can beat this tab. Am happy I got one.
The warm color issues can be fixed with kernels and gama settings. Well I think it can, I fixed my Galaxy Nexus colors by tuning the multipliers

And knowing Samsung it will be priced at $500+, which will make it a non factor in the tablet landscape. They need to keep the price down to sell, it's just a harsh reality for everyone without a fruit on the back of the device.

Seriously, who cares about PPI as long as you cannot lsee pixels when you're using the device casually? Nexus 7 has a really good PPI, despite not being 'retina'. I would be perfectly fine with a 10 inch one that has similar PPI if it means a longer battery life and less UI lag.
There's already a thread discussing the Nexus 10.

How good/bad is the screen on the phone? The 1 thing holding me back from purchasing this phone is the 720p screen, I think everything else about the phone is near perfect (except the processor). If this phone came with a 1080p screen I would have already preordered being the pixel junkie that I am.
I left AT&T recently and went to Verizon and though I upgraded in service quality I downgraded in phone choices by a ton. Basically the only phones I will have to choose from are, the HTC One, Moto X, iPhone 5s or the Note 3.
I am looking for advice, as you can see by my signature I've owned tons of phones this year and I cant seem to find a phone that fits me as good as this iPhone does at this point. The Nexus 4 was close but AT&T is just bad so it ruined the whole experience. I believe the Moto X might be the best opportunity I have on Verizon for a phone with a bigger screen but with a small footprint and nearly stock android. On the other hand the HTC One with 4.2.2 on Verizon might be great and the Note 3 could be a tech nerds (myself) dream with its specifications.
I think with the 720vs1080 is just that. NUMBERS. I don't think on that screen size unless your LOOKING for a problem you won't see a noticeable difference to the naked eye.
Sent from my MB886 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Just a numbers game. Watch any of the demo videos posted by blogs that reviewed the MotoX and the screen is beautiful during normal use. You aren't going notice the difference unless you place a 1080p screen next to the 720p and stare at the screens for a long time.
Just number game too here ... really like the quality of the screen... have used an s4 and prefer my moto x and the thin sensation of the phone... Ok google now is excellent ( and really work great in french language ... )
Go play with the droid Maxx and the gs4 at the store you will see the difference. None that the eye can see!!

Comparing to my N4, there is no difference in quality.
Bought my Moto X today after loving my LG Optimus Pro. I'm surprised by the screen quality. The 720 is much better than expected. Smaller screen so it appears to look good. The LG and HTC screens at 1080 are still nicer overall but don't let the 720 dissuade you. This is a great phone. The camera may be the only weakness. This phone is as quick as my LG Optimus Pro with a 600 Snapdragon chip.

It's not a bad display, it's definitely worse than the One and the S4.
I thought the 720p screen was going to be horrendous compare to my galaxy s4's gorgeous 1080p screen but the screen quality actually surprised me. Its not like the droid razr's screens of the past. Without the s4 in front of you, you won't be able to tell without looking for the imperfection.

I went to the store today to play with one in person and I had my HTC one with me for comparison. I had originally thing that the ppi of Moto X is high enough anyway, but I can definitely see the pixels on smaller fonts on the X, unless somehow the font is optimized on the one.
The white on the X is also considerably more yellow than on the one, maybe it could be calibrated in software, but with the one next to it in similar brightness, the display of the X looks dull in color and pixelated compared to the one. And the text is not as sharp. Being Chinese, the fine details on the Chinese character is very important, and the bolded Chinese font that still looks great on the one was very disappointing to see on the X.
For anyone interested, go to http://tw.news.yahoo.com and make sure to request the desktop version. It is a pretty standard Chinese site that I use to check text readability.
For me the biggest benefit with a 1080 screen is if you are going to connect it to a 1080 tv or external display a lot, then you get correct pixel mapping. When I connect my sgs3 to a tv I only get a 720p signal.

I think the screen is pretty nice, not the best. But battery life is pretty stellar so far. Its VERY snappy too. Features rock and are really appreciated as light over stock. 1. the processor is not something to hate on. there are technically 8 cores in this phone. the main processor is dual-core but NOT last years model. this will save you battery as well as eliminate useless hardware that only takes up resources. quad core processing is a joke for mobile phones, especially when almost zero apps make use of anything more than two cores.
2. to complain about an HD resolution on a 4.7inch screen not being HD enough is petty and ridiculous. 720p or 1080p is no where near anything to complain about
3. the iphone doesnt have quad core. the iphone doesnt have 1080p. it doesnt even have 720p. how does it fit you more than the moto x?
this is the problem. people are way too concerned with over-hyped useless hardware specs and no one cares for how the hardware and software play together. the user experience is the reason the iphone was the best selling phone year after year. now with android, people rather show off a useless 8core processor instead of a finely tuned dual core that works much smoother. the moto x is attempting to fix what samsung destroyed.
I love it. Despite being 720 I can't tell. The colors are very vibrant and the only way you can see a pixel on it is if you put your eye right on it but you shouldnt be doing that so you should be fine

I also have the iphone 5/4S/N4/S3/S2. It really depends. Screen resolution doesn't matter as much as screen quality IMO. Things like contrast and color reproduction are more important once you get into the 720p+ realm.
Basically it's a choice between:
AMOLED Variations (Moto X, Note 3, most Samsung) = best contrast, second best colors, best viewing angles
IPS (Iphone 5, HTC One, N4 etc) = second best contrast, best colors, second best viewing angles
TFT screens (TV's, most low end phones, some mid range) = worst contrast, worst colors, worst viewing angles
I personally missed the insane contrast levels when I used IPS screens, I'm a sucker for DEEP blacks for my themes/setup.
The screen quality for a 720p AMOLED screen is flawless on my sample. No dead pixels, perfect uniformity, zero backlight bleed (unlike S2, S3 which do have backlight bleed when you set an all black image and go in a dark room, you can still see the screen. On Moto X the phone dissapears in those same conditions)
A perfect screen for me would be Moto X screen with iphone 4s digitizer lol. The digitizer in the iphone 5 was pretty bad. Hardly registered my taps near the edge of the screen.
Thanks for all the replies, I decided against the Moto X, I played with it in the store and it had a similar look and feel to the Nexus 4 (which I had anticipated). I am going to wait out the Sony Honami (I REALLY REALLY WANT THIS PHONE) and the Note 3 seeing as how IFA is a week away. If I'm disappointed, I will go out an purchase the iPhone 5s and wait to see what the new Nexus brings.
I know the new Nexus won't be coming for Verizon, so I might have to try T-Mobile out if anything because AT&T is terrible in my area.
Thanks
First of all the notch was no big deal, turned on the settings to hide it and forgot about it. I did not like the screen quality. Now I am coming from a Nexus 6P which a QHD display and knew it came with a lower resolution screen but all the reviewers were saying how they can't tell the difference. They must need glasses. I am middle aged with not great eyesight and I could easily spot the difference.
The speed of the device is fast and the battery life was good. Wifi reception is excellent.
The dongle for headphones was no big deal either as all of mine worked. However the OnePlus 6T dongle in the box looks like it will break easily overtime and I am mad in the US they don't sell extra's. As for the sound quality knowing that USB-Type C headphones use digital I think the sound quality is not great and even when using a USB-Type C headphones dongle on the Nexus 6P I noticed much better sound. Now the reason I sent it back is constant audio stuttering with Apple Music. I read this has been going on for years and no I am not dropping AM as I hate Spotify UI and I don't really like Play Music which will turn into the much worse YTMusic soon.
So that is a deal breaker I sent it back, went back to my Nexus 6P.
Bout sent back Mine cause it won't work properly on Verizon...
I have T-Mobile so I did not have a chance to try it outside. As soon as AM kept stuttering I wanted to return it.
No issues with Apple music here. I have prepaid so I don't use Verizon myself. I dumped them like 4 years ago now and never looked back

Not really buying that. I'm a pixel peeper and had doubts but you can't tell the screen is 1080p. You would have to have the phone very close to your face to see the difference. Also the Nexus 6p is pretty ancient now and the screen quality won't be anywhere near as good as the newest ones...amoled tech gets better every year.... unless it's from LG ?

A little off topic but how do you compare the camera differences between the 3xl and the 6t. I bought the 6t coming from the og XL (got it free due to 6p battery jank, totally regret it.) The Pixel 3 has an unrivaled camera. Maybe Huawei's mate 20 pro/x can compare to the experience due to more options with a wide angle lens, AI that doesn't suck (that black/white background while keeping the subject in colour is amazing), and a night sight mode that performs well.. but the Pixel is king. I returned my Pixel 3 XL because the notch was too hideous and the speakers were garbage, but I'm glad we have GCam for the 6T. Stock camera isn't as good as GCam.
And to the op: sorry but I'm calling bs. There's no genuine way you can tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p on a smartphone. Maybe you're confusing the screen quality, which is still very questionable given how old the 6P is, but still - there's no way you can tell the difference between a FHD and QHD panel with the naked eye. You'd have to have the phone about an inch from your eye to possibly see anything.

I guess it depends on how important the camera is to you. The Pixel is obviously better, but then again it's probably better than any phone, not just the 6T. I always think I need the best camera, but then in practice, unless I'm on holiday somewhere, I don't even use it that much. Although sure, it would be nice to have.
Part of the problem as well is the tenancy to view photos side-by-side in camera comparison videos and the like. When you directly compare the 6T to something like the Pixel 3 in most cases it's not going to be as good, but in real usage when you're not comparing it to the best in class, it's a fairly capable shooter in its own right.

Well I wasn't sure. I think the Pixel XL had an 821 in it. I keep hearing about how much better the 800 series of processors are than the 700. The 700 are a mid-range. Like I compared it in my head to the regular Intel versus the Celeron.
I really didn't know, so it was a serious question. I read a lot of posts of people pooping on the processor in the Pixel 5.
Can anyone compare the viewable screen size of a Pixel 4Xl compared to the 5? My question is, if going from a 4XL, and I actually losing viewable screen, or since there is no bezel, does the screen remain the same size?
Thanks

There are a ton of Pixel haters out there. I dunno why. Jealous? Paid shills by Apple and Samsung? All I know is that, if you told me that a 4 y.o. gen Core i7 (Kaby or Coffee Lake) ran better than a current gen Ryzen 5 (4500), I'd laugh. There might be room for debate, but not much. I was able to get a Pixel 4XL for $599 an couple days ago (brand new), got a price match from an Amazon listing, and I had $500 in rewards certificates (I buy a lot from Best Buy), so it cost me $99 plus tax and screen protector and case. To me, the Pixel 5 is just not worth it, smaller screen and lower resolution, slower processor and more. It's good enough for me to wait and see if they make a Pixel 6XL. 6.3 inch screen is the smallest I'll go, and I actually prefer 6.5 to 6.7 inch screens. To each their own, but I just don't see the value in a Pixel 5 vice the Pixel 4XL, especially if you can get a new one for $599 or less.
