Chrome crashing when I select share...? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, not sure if I've debloated something that Chrome needs but browsing is fine, but when I try share a webpage Chrome crashes everytime any site if I try share... any ideas? thanks

If I install a different browser the share option works fine, but not in Chrome, seems there is some dependency app or something that chrome needs to link with the sharing function...? dunno. Unless there is just a bug in Chrome?

Needs Huawei Share...

Thanks yes it was the 2 Huawei share apps.

Have you tried Samsung internet browser? I have to say it's stellar, dark mode throughout, ad blocking, rapid with no overheads.
Truly the best browser I've ever used on Android
No bookmarks sync so that's the downside.
Chrome can still be used but the comparison is night and day.
The data harvesting that Chrome takes is truly horrific. They want everything.
Google have gone too far.
Ps: in regards to sharing, if you're using an ad blocker then that can cause havoc.
Turn it off and retry.
Or go incognito and retry. Incognito will mimic a perfectly blame browser.

Was my own fault, had deleted the Huawei share all which is needed to share, so reinstalled using adb and all sorted out, thanks.

Where can I get this for my gtab? I don't see it in the market.
It won't be in the Market for a long time.
Side load it from this page:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#ARMv7
Beta05pre is the current version. I like it quite a lot so far.

It was in the market for me this morning. I am running Vegan 5.1. I am actually running the Pre beta 5 from the website though.
Note that the link is to the Nightly builds. Don't be surprised if you get an update notice immediately.
I'd recommend adding a shortcut to your GTab desktop for that link or use DropBox and a computer to download and sync it with your tablet instead of using the updater, as I've been unable to get that working properly.
I found it in the market yesterday. Seems pretty slow, and I haven't found a way to keep it from using mobile sites. Most browsers have a way to change the user agent. Haven't found it.
The version in the market is older and much slower. The version in that link has many speed improvements.
There is an add on that well let you spoof the browser also.
I am posting from it right now in fact.
Im using the nightly build, everything is fast. The sync feature is nice too.
Only bad thing is you can't tell it your using a tablet, so it chooses the mobile site a lot instead of the full sites.
I've had good luck with the beta FireFox provided by the link. Flash does not work though. The flash player (beta) only seems to work with the stock web browser. Everything else (FF,Opera,Dolphin) crash or do not display correctly. It's not really smooth in restarting, it has to force close if it's been open for some reason. I have not found a way of setting the default to open with other browsers installed. A pop-up with all installed keeps coming up to open. Default browser settings are grayed out in the control panel.

Google virus?!

I have a slight problem which I can't fix. Whenever I open dolphin browser hd the Google homepage opens up even though I have the homepage set as new tab. Also Google will randomly open on a new tab while I am browsing on another tab. I tried changing all various settings and it didn't fix it. I even tried downloading Firefox and that worked fine until when I closed and then opened it again it came up with the Google homepage!
I have no idea what the problem could be. I need help please!

Nasty Facebook Wakelock

I can't seem to shake this wakelock! It has persisted between 2 clean rom installs and 2 kernels. Can anyone advise?
I killed it by doing this:
1. Install Greenify
2. Greenify Facebook
3. Go into Greenify and if Facebook has been woken by that process (kind of hit or miss. You have to catch it at the right time), select Facebook and icons will appear in the top right corner of the screen
4.. Select the icon that looks like a pair of scissors to prevent it from being woken by that process
5. Profit
I have an even better solution: don't install Facebook.

Is that really necessary? Why would you click the thread title if you where not interested? I understand the need for debatable topics, but darn, fishing for them seems to go on a lot on XDA. I get its invasive permissions, I do. So, I see your angle, sir. Perhaps recommending a better app that doesn't have said invasiveness?
OP: I tried Fast for Facebook, but its a bit buggy, and pro version is paid. I uninstalled it because attaching photos inside a webkit window in an app doesn't work for Messenger for some reason. It's a lot easier on your battery, beast of a battery it is in our Nexus.
Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot about Trillian! Trillian is really really good for Messenger, but a bit buggy for Messenger groups. It's still good for getting a hold of your contacts, though, without having your microphone and camera turned on and bugged for no reason. Picture attachments work too, they open a direct server link in Chrome and auto-attach to the chat window so that you can see them.
Alternative Facebook solutions anyone? This guy needs help not having his phone wiretapped. XD
Not going to lie, Greenify is gold! I love the xposed module, too.
Not installing Facebook is a viable solution to the OP's wakelock. In fact, it's the most sensible solution, since you can still access Facebook using a browser. Seriously, do you really need to know how many people are posting useless crap on your facebook wall?
So yes, stating the obvious is absolutely necessary.
EDIT: Just to make this clear, Facebook is a resource hog, which is why not installing it is the sensible move. Permissions have little to do with it.

that was my solution to a Facebook wakelock years ago. when I never used Facebook for months, it used 10-25% of my battery, daily. so I uninstalled it. I've haven't been happier about it since. now I only use Facebook in the browser. anyways, did you know that Facebook is ranked at top 5 most hungry resource hog android apps?
Did anyone know if you use Facebook in chrome it will still push notifications?

I keep my Facebook app because I like it. What I do is freeze it with titanium backup when I'm not using it and unfreeze it when I want to use it.
Try metal.
I used to only use Facebook thru chrome. You cannot
Share things or get updates as it is just a web site
Metal is for Facebook and twitter. Very light app.
It is in play store. Get it.
Can't greenify
Same issue here. Even greenify can't hibernate Facebook and messenger
On Chrome for Android, you can set websites to send you notifications as if they're a native app... What I do is click the dot menu, then tap "Add To Home Screen". Then I move the FB Website icon to my SOCIAL folder.
Then I go back to the 3 dot menu, select settings (while on the Facebook website), go under advanced and you will see " Site Settings". Give the FB Website permission to send you notifications through Chrome... And viola.
As for the greenify.... From what I can tell, somehow the FB app can refuse to be greenified... Look in Better Battery Stats and you'll see that FB is constantly running a bug report service... (At least that's what I've seen). What I used to do, before I got rid of it all together... Was just seipe to close it as soon as I was done with the app. That was a bit much in my mind. So I went the web browser route

Thanks so much for getting some resources together, guys!
Yeah, those push notifications for Facebook are annoying. Clear cookies and cache, log out of Facebook on Chrome, use Firefox browser instead, disable and greenify chrome (only when needed for webkits). I am going to try metal, but I love Trillian for Messenger at least. I was looking for an app solution, seeing as m.facebook.com doesn't have all of the functionality of regular Facebook.
When I get done rooting my device I'll make a video on this start - finish. Gonna give myself a 2A rapid charge so I can clear battery stats right off the gate - Nexus 6.

Have you considered just using Facebook.com and checking the option for request desktop site? It's a hassle unless you can somehow get it to stick for each visit. But that would give you the full site.

If you've got the Firefox Android browser, there is an add-on for "request desktop website" automatically for your specified websites. That might work.

Eh, I have uninstalled (or hidden, don't really know) quite some apps using this method:
Forumpost on XDA about unbloating without root
(XDA) Uninstall bloat without root
However, I encounter a small issue now. I also uninstalled this Browser from Vivo. Mainly because of the overkill of chinese in it, as well as that I (obviously) didn't use it, and I couldn't really avoid it. (switching the default browser to Chrome seemed to work, but whenever you leave that setting-screen and come back to it, this Vivo Browser is back in place. Uninstalling using the above helped, but now I encounter another issue. This Browser also was malfunctioning with certain radiobuttons on websites, which also made me not use it for login on certain public wifi's where I am regularly. However, without the Browser, I can't seem to let Chrome open in order to guide me to the Wifi login screen at all. Sometimes, on some wifi's, the redirect works (so I just open google.com in Chrome, and I get redirected to the login page straight away), but on some wifi's that is not happening. When in the Wifi-setting-screen I tap on "Tap here to authenticate", nothing happens....Anyone an idea?

You should be able to do the same with the browser as you did with the launcher, set the browser as default.

True, I found the setting. However, whenever I leave that settings window (after setting the default browser to Chrome), and come back to it later, I see that it has swapped back to the Vivo browser. And for stuff like publicwifilogin I still got this vivo browser (and that caused some issues since it has issues with certain radiobuttons)...

Question Bug - app links do not open in Chrome

Dear fellow XDA and Vivo users,
I have a really annoying problem on my Vivo X90 Pro+.
For some reason it cannot open app links from Chrome.
For example:
- I click on a Youtube link in an email in Gmail app
- The link opens Chrome
- The system app says 'Chrome requests to open Youtube'
- I click open and nothing happens
Same happens for payments links, Zoom links, etc.
It does work when I use Firefox as a default app so it seems Vivo/Google related. Do other people also experience this problem or do you have ideas on how to solve this? I prefer to use Chrome as my default app.
Thanks a lot!

It's not a bug, it's Chrome can't deal with Google Services not being system app or smth like that... Every other browser I've tried is fine with opening links, it's just Chome as default browser that creates this problem.
You need to give Chrome permission for 'Background pop-ups'
This solved it! Working now. Thank you so much for your quick response, really appreciate it. Very happy, this was driving me nuts.
