[PORT] Oneplus camera - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

I request any of the developers to give interest towards porting Oneplus camera to Redmi k20 pro. As Oneplus has better dynamic range and contrast on stock cam. Nightmode is 3 times better than redmi when compared

OnePlus literally has the worst camera you can find on any phone that costs more than $200. If you don't believe me just go into the XDA threads for any OnePlus phone--whatever OnePlus model you pick there will be a thread about porting the Google Camera App that's dozens of pages long because it's impossible to take even decent pictures on a OnePlus phone without using the ported Google Camera App.
The fact that the coding on OnePlus phones is completely inept and has been since Oxygen Nougat (the first build of Oxygen after OnePlus fired all of the Oxygen programmers and shifted programming to the Hydrogen team in China to save money) is very well-known in the development community and among software engineers.
OnePlus gives away free phones in exchange for positive reviews and gives free phones to developers because it's much cheaper than paying for programmers who actually know what they're doing.

I just asked about the difference in the quality of cameras in K20 Pro and OP 7 Pro : https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/help/camera-quality-k20-pro-op-7-pro-t4025703
Are you sure that K20 Pro camera outperform OP 7 Pro camera?

Camera quality between K20 Pro and OP 7 Pro

I'm planning to buy a new phone with better custom ROM support, but confused between these two - K20 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro. The price of both phones are at different extends.
So if the K20 Pro has better or comparable quality in the camera section against OP 7 Pro I would definitely go for K20 Pro and can save money for others. Please share your thoughts on this.
OP 7 pro has better camera, but K20 pro camera isn't not bad at all for day to day normal shots taking, if you're a camera guy then it's OP > K20
Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk
The only real reason to get OP 7 Pro over K20 is for OIS. Makes a real difference during low light and while shooting video.
Wide-angle camera is also a little better and has manual focus. During day time, you won't get much difference cause both have same main sensor. GCam fixes most of the color inconsistencies for both phones.
If you plan on shooting at night time, I highly suggest you go for OnePlus. Even the 7T has OIS so that's a good middle ground [and has 2x zoom instead of 3x].
You shouldn't believe anything you read in the tech press about OnePlus phones--especially what you read on XDA.
OnePlus fired all of the programmers who created Oxygen after OnePlus Marshmallow and moved all coding to the Hydrogen team in China to save money.
Hydrogen was supposedly the Chinese ROM for OnePlus phones--but since OnePlus doesn't actually sell phones in China they were programming a ROM nobody used.
Since Oxygen Nougat coding on OnePlus phones has been completely inept--a fact that is widely known among developers and software engineers but not discussed on XDA.
The last OnePlus phone developers actually used was the OP3T--which was the last OnePlus phone released before the Oxygen programmers were fired.
All development for OnePlus phones is artificially sustained by OnePlus who gives free phones to developers since they would never spend their own money on OnePlus devices.
Since developers don't actually use OnePlus phones as their daily driver ROMs and kernels for OnePlus phones are compiled. These ROMs always have bugs--any build of any custom ROM for a OnePlus phone always has bugs even if it's supposedly stable.
Since OnePlus ROMs are compiled by developers who don't use the phones daily themselves multiple ROMs will often have the exact same bugs at the same time. Someone will post code to fix the bug on GitHub and if the code is approved all of the devs for the various ROMs will incorporate the same code into their own ROMs.
Usually developers of OnePlus custom ROMs don't know there are bugs in their "stable" ROMs until users report them and these bugs are sometimes serious enough to affect the basic functionality of the phone.
I personally used "stable" OnePlus custom ROMs that wouldn't boot up beyond the splash screen, where the ability to make or receive calls was broken, where Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS was broken, where opening the settings or trying to make a call would completely crash the UI--you get the idea--and this was all on ROMs that were labeled as stable.
Because the firmware on OnePlus phones is ineptly coded it's impossible to take decent pictures without using the ported Google Camera App--a $200 phone from Samsung or Xiaomi takes better pictures than a $700 OnePlus phone using the native OnePlus Camera app.
OnePlus phones are overpriced and ineptly coded--phones from Xiaomi and Honor are a much better value.
Don't read too much into the above post.
As far as hardware is concerned, there is not much difference between the 2, with the exception of OIS being added to the OP phone. Both have the same Sony sensor as the main module, but OP have slightly better secondary modules.
Software wise Xiaomi seem to be ahead of OP, in terms of computational photography. As I see it, Google and Huawei are way ahead, with Samsung third and probably Xiaomi 4th when it comes to computational photography.
So OP edge the camera hardware, but Xiaomi edge the camera software.
I also in confusion about these two phones.
Finally Op cancelled only for Headphone jack.

Already checked, viewed videos and read many articles. But I want to hear from real people besides reviews, that's why I'm asking.
- are the images great with the photos taken with GCam?
- does the EIS work with all three cameras? or with any camera?
- if the K20 Pro is compared to OnePlus 6T in camera how do you rate them?

- GCam makes colors match up closely. Night mode is minorly better on the OP, but for a casual user it's not incredibly noticeable. Astrophotography is just as good as on any other phone. Main cameras are the same on both phones (48MP Sony), while wide angle is minorly better on the OP (imo, not enough of a quality difference to justify price difference)
- EIS works with main camera on both phones in GCam, OP has OIS on main camera as well. Neither phone can take wide angle video in gcam. OP can't take wide angle video in stock, K20 Pro can.
- K20 Pro is very significantly better than 6T. It matches with the OP 7 Pro much better.

Thank you so much for the details mate. But unfortunately I'll be buying a pre-owned OnePlus 7T tomorrow. A deal is almost confirmed. I found a couple of things of 7T better for me than K20 Pro. The motorized pop-up camera is one I don't like in K20 Pro, and that's why I'm not even picking 7 Pro, which I can get in the same range. Also I love the 90Hzv display.
These things are too personal and I won't say that K20 Pro is not a good one. It's a great device and I should have brought earlier once but I didn't have money that time.
Anyways thanks again for the detailed information.
EDIT: Just dropped the deal because of unreliability.
I just use GCam and it's miles better than the stock op7

[question] Filmic Pro and Xiaomi Mi9 triple camera

Hi there,
I'm going to buy Gimbal Zhiyun Smooth 4 for my Xiaomi Mi 9. I've heard that ZY Play app for this gimbal is not working properly (it crashes and all) so I'm interested in buying also FiLMiC Pro app. But I'm also wondering if this app can use all three cameras.
All answers will be much appreciated.

Xiaomi won't do anything to allow filmic pro to access all the lens. If u dont root ur phone, it is no luck to use all the lens.

Ok, still I'm going to root my Mi9 because of Titanium Backup and no warranty break from my local Service point in Poland. [emoji3] I just had to be sure that I won't break the warranty in Poland, at the end it depends on the Service point.

This don't worked for me on Mi 9 Can you please write what you exactly do to enable aux cameras in Filmic Pro?
vendor.camera.aux.packagelist="com.filmic.filmicpro"
this prop not makes any difference
I found the solution! To make Mi 9 (MIUI 11 Android 10 global rom) share aux cameras with filmic pro need to use prop
camera.aux.packagelist=com.filmic.filmicpro
without "vendor."

Thank you so much for this. I have been trying everything to get it to work. Finally this helped.
Only issue is I get 11 lens options in Filmic Pro even though my phone has only 4 lenses including the selfie cam. Selecting any of the other 7 options seems to crash the app. Idk whats causing this but I am just glad I have access to all the available lenses on my phone.

In system/build.prop, go to the line vendor.camera.aux.packagelist=***,***
Now edit the line to look something like this:
camera.aux.packagelist=com.filmic.filmicpro
Save and exit buid.prop and reboot your phone. Now open Filmic Pro -> Camera. You should be able to find the aux cams.

OnePlus 6T user here migrating to a Pixel 5. OnePlus updates slow significantly over time. 18th months after device launch your phone is 3rd tier for their development team. Below is the device update history from T-Mobile for the OnePlus 6T. Notice the change in release frequency from launch till current. I'm buying the Pixel 5 because of poor update support from OnePlus. Samsung has superior device software support to OnePlus.

as far as i saw from camera examples, the differences for regular people where not compare to SLR cameras are not so high , they improve the camera at the onePlus 8 pro, do i wrong?
about the updates, the onePlus 8 pro have the android 11 , the onePlus 7 have the android 10 and will get in month or two the android 11, also the onePlus 6 as far as i read, so whats the big deal?
at the other hand we are getting higher battery size, stronger processor, and larger screen , isn't it?

The oneplus does not have official 11, it's just a beta release
-P5 is a more managable size.
-Updates, 3 years of updates too.
-I've never ran OxygenOS on my OP6 because I've always had issues with it not giving me timely notifications. People probably think I'm crazy when I say that but AOSP roms don't have that issue for me. I'd prefer to run stock, maybe rooted at this point.

Disanvantages p5 vs OP8PRO
1. SD 765 vs SD 865 ( way more powerful SoC on the 8pro)
2. FHD/90hz vs QHD/120hz
On all other aspects P5 is better ( software is the big advantage for the pixel5 , where Google is unbeatable)

3. camera sensor is butt old and lens is medicore - its all just software (which has its limits, that in my opinion already were reached 1-2 years ago, but some people always will disagree because they "like what they see and think the past equals the present and the future")
4. no telezoom lens, for thats quite a big negative no matter if it's just 2x or 5x optically there are many many situations that such a lens is usefull for anyone
5. these updates - are enforced, so you're constantly nagged and maybe at a time even forced ("auto updates") to take them even if you know they're unstable despite being marked as stable (and they were for months f.e. on the Pixel 3a - 9>10 and now again 10>11 - just google yourself ). That got worse on Android 10 and likely will on Android 11 and 12 (for the better or worse of it) ...
6. google support is horrible
as for 5+6 - some examples:
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/70324090?hl=en
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/69968712?hl=en
https://www.reddit.com/r/android_beta/comments/h0qznb/any_major_issues_so_far_on_android_11_beta/
https://www.gizchina.com/2020/09/26...sh-broken-multitasking-black-screen-flickers/
... and countless others if you search on Reddit. So yes there are downsides (!), especially regarding software (ironically).
Only buy when you can live with that (not saying it's unmanageable, just being honest).
Another example:
Android 11 made matters worse in that they don't allow apps to access storage outside of their domain. So naturally you're forced to Android 11 and get lots of apps that are now incompatible (Stable not Beta). That in itself isn't bad - what's happening is by using the Pixel-Line you're basically a Beta-Testers for Google. All other vendors may adapt slower, but also will have less bugs solved by the time it reaches you. If you can life with that it's fine. I rather don't do that anymore.
Also using their beta builds and release candidates go so far as destroying their phones in an unrecoverable state (and interestingly all searches on Google regarding that lead to nowhere now, but I know it was quite a big thing from 9>10 back then). Thanks to hardware encryption with the Titan M that will like be worse in the future ... I don't trust Google any longer to be honest. Which saddens me, because I'd still like the Pixel line to be better and ... in the end Adroid being more successfull. But for me Google is becoming really evil, that includes Guerillia Marketing, but that's just my personal opinion that I don't want to reflect here ...

I was about to buying pixel 6 pro, but since I hate Tensor CPU (which basically is a Samsung exynos) I bought OnePlus 10 Pro just because of latest and greatest CPU from snapdragon + good old days background and now it's totally destroyed
Can you suggest a flagship with pure or close to pure android experience with good development community?

No such thing.
Pixel still have bugs. Lately no signal (SIM & wifi) in USA, that i know of.
Oxygen is f*cked up by google. They change app from Oxygen with them creap. They add stupid usselles "security".
Motorola OS will be the same, because will work with google.. I use 2 Motorola phones (1 low end & 1 midranger) Both workt fine, cameras quality was not great. I use Motorola cam for Macro & Gcam for normal photos. The main thing i miss was Oxygen Gestures (2 x tap screen On & Off. And my favorite, Lift phone to ear to answer a call)
Mi OS have many bugs .
Samsung FULL of Bloatware & is Android Jail copied/inpired by aple i****.
I hope Huawei will get better now.
I like Vivo x80 Pro, but is Horrible Expensive.

Yup, agreed. Only reason I got the 9 and not a Pixel 6 was Tensor, especially the modem.

Question "New" OnePlus 10 Pro Worth it

Hi,everyone been on iPhone on and off since the 3GS, I'm looking to upgrade my 11 Pro Max and thinking of getting the "New" OnePlus 10 Pro. I had the OnePlus 1 and the OnePlus 7T so I'm not new to OnePlus or OxagenIOs but the reviews have been mixed. I figured I would ask the community if it was worth the switch and if not the OnePlus 10 Pro https://nox.tips/ https://xender.vip/ any recommendations for a new phone, right now I'm also looking at the Pixel 6 Pro or thinking of waiting till the Pixel 7.

I would wait and see on the Pixel 7, I am sure it will be better than OP10 Pro.
Don't by this sh*t !!
Stupid, Disgusting, Buggy ColorOS (new OxygenOS) !!
No MSM Tool, No official ROM, No TWRP, No custom ROMs !!
First mistake and bootloop = Last one = No way to fix it !!
Also you must call it "OPPO 10 Pro"
"OnePlus" doesn't exists anymore !!
Just wait for pixel 7 ...
R.I.P. OnePlus and OxygenOS

To provide an alternative perspective for the OP, I disagree with Saeed that the phone is garbage. ColorOS is not buggy for me, and I personally like the features. So personal preference here, you might like it or maybe not.
I can agree that it is a bummer there is no MSM tool, but IMO the only time I have needed that tool was when I was into custom ROMs and get a bad build, or I did something stupid by not reading instructions. Never had an issue with just OOS rooting and flashing.
Also, I have just have no time for tinkering/experimenting with my phone anymore and I am happy with just OOS. So I have no interest in custom ROMs, I don't have time to constantly be fixing my phone from buggy or custom stuff. I need it to be stable, have root and I am happy.
Same with TWRP, I haven't used that in probably 4 years now. All I do is unlock bootloader, boot a patched Magisk boot, patch the phone boot, and I am done. I have zero need for TWRP.
To the point about full flashable ROMs, one would only need them if they're constantly ROM hopping, which of course does not affect me.
So if you're like me and don't need custom ROMs or recovery, the phone will be great. I am very happy with it. If you're like Saeed, then you'll be posting multiple exclamation points after every sentence. All about perspective/preferences.
Sidenote, I personally was very disappointed when I tried the Pixel 6. Software had none of the features that OOS has, like screen off gestures (music control, flashlight ect), hide icons on status bar, ect. Just a bunch of small things that I didn't know I'd miss. Also, the charging speed was crazy slow compared to OnePlus, and finally the modem had the worse cell reception I have ever experienced in a smartphone. YMMV
I ditched mine, but it's a nice device with stock setup....

Tensor 2 is rumored to still use weak A55 cores. If you want a flagship, the 7 is going to be quite far from being one. That's without even taking the garbage Samsung modem into account.

Yes, the Pixel 6 modem was really bad. I returned it. If Pixel 7 has the same/similar, then Google done messed up

I wouldn't even take a free one. Boycott them
Pixel 7 will be the right choice, or maybe even Samsung. Oneplus has offically been added to my NEVER buy list. Tensor may be meh, but at least google releases factory images right away. I repeat NEVER BUY THIS GARBAGE PHONE

+1 Yeah!
With pixel we have full factory images FOR EVERY UPDATE
Bare in mind that the information gathered about the the pixel 7 is pre release and wont be a fair rep of the chip.
It's meant to be the same but improved chip so battery life will be improved.
Also GPU improvements which should make gaming a little better, top games and emulators could already run on the 6 and 6 pro respectively, so the 7 could hit a sweet spot with current software available, the one thing that was bad with the 6 was the battery and increasing heat when gaming.
Overall I think it's too early to tell, with Chinese devices being ever more spyware ridden and locked down I personally wouldn't be 100% happy getting any of them, certainly not any of the big ones like OnePlus / oppo / Xiaomi.
The pixel 7 I think will be the device that people will be flock to, developers and users alike.
I don't think it'll be perfect, nor was I overehelmed by the news of the SOC, but if I had to choose between that and the turds floating out of the south china sea then I'd go with the 7..
That's my thinking at this point.
Certainly send like the battleground of mobile devices is starting to look more political, I doubt that'll go away any time soon.
It's all a matter of personal preference.
I sent mine back today. Tried to like it, but it was frustrating the life out of me. Stuck my sim back in my S21 ultra and the difference between the two is like night and day.
I think my time with OnePlus is done after all the years being with them.
If Samsung had an alert slider then that would be just perfect for me.

If Samsung made a vanilla device with pure android they'd completely clean up..
Plus they need to drop that exynos crap and chill on the bootloader locking stuff.
Give people a choice.
Also I don't think you're alone in not getting another OnePlus.
They're dead
I really like the OnePlus 10 Pro 12/512GB, even the Oppofied software. My only issue with them is the nonsense with not being able to have custom rom.
I have the 12/256 variant and love it.
It's far more enjoyable than my pixel 6 pro was as well as my rog phone 5.
The last time I enjoyed a phone this much was the galaxy s10+ or my oneplus 7 pro

The ROG has been on my shortlist as I do game on my devices, I'm considering one of them in the future.. a sort of get it as it is type of device rather than what it can be.
How does the ROG 5 compare to the 10 pro in regards to heavy apps/games

Oddly enough the oneplus can run pubg mobile on HDR and extreme fps and the rog can't. Overall I'd say it's the same for gaming. I'm running pubg mobile and genshin on the same settings on my 10 pro as I was on my rog.
The camera on the rog is absolutely **** as is the durability. It's not even water resistantet let alone waterproof. The game genie software is top notch though as are the air triggers and I'd say that it has bar none the best speakers in a phone.
