Does weekly reminders to clear things up and even "meme" photos people send you. Plus it's got a great file sharing feature from phone to phone.

Yeah for some reason, I think starting with Android 9, no apps nor the system manager offer app cache cleaning. The Google Files app is the closest one as "Junk Files" is a lot of temporary and cache files for things YouTube, music apps, etc. that get many MBs worth.

There's not even an option in recovery I think. Just a data clear.

Are you rooted? You can increase the size of vram and increase swappiness and this should help. It won't clear the ram but it will move the unused pieces of ram into bran so there will always be enough ram to either play some intense games that require ram or multitasking and not having any apps close due to not enough ram.

Ive just found THE most annoying problem in the N4...

And now Im going to ruin your day. If you have folders and app icons mixed on the home screen, the labels dont align. App icons text sits noticeably higher than the label for folders. Its annoying the bejesus out of me...
Software update will fix it. Big deal.
Please provide a screenshot.

The most annoying for me is I can't use t9 to dial contacts from the dialer! My labels line up fine with nova.

meh! - nova launcher - options - desktop - untick label icons.

This would annoy me!
Does this only happen on the stock Launcher?

You don't care but some do. Sorry we don't all think like you! The fact is it shouldn't even be there. I have never seen this on any android phone I have used or any of the dozens of Stock/Custom ROMs.
I've found something much worse
For me anyway, when I set the brightness to the maximum and then put a black background, a single red stuck pixel shows up near the center. It only seems to be visible with the brightness turned up and on darker backgrounds.
I've tried using the stuck pixel fixer apps but none have worked so far :/ Anyone have any ideas?
Very terrible, this has made me cancel Thanksgiving.

Device Getting Slow

I've downloaded a lot of things on my nexus 7, but now it's getting slow and unresponsive, would a factory reset fix that issue? Also is there a way to keep some videos and pictures after a factory reset?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Try asking the question in Q&A section next time.
Also try cleaning the cache
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=cache&c=apps
Don't install any crap on your device which you don't really need.. even cache cleaners. You can clean the cache from within the OS. Settings>Storage>Cached Data.
Keep at least two GB's of storage free, one thing I noticed is when you fill up your storage the device gets really slow and lags real hard.

That's what I heard. I also heard that once you do get to the point of it lagging, the only way to fix it is a full wipe,, supposedly just clearing some space doesn't fix it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using tapatalk 2. (Gone off HD...)
I was noticing lag in my system as well, even after multiple full wipes and clean installs. What helped me incredibly was wiping the internal storage, and I had like 8 gigs free still.. So might wanna try that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
You can try adjusting the read ahead too. I heard that once there's not alot space left that lowering or playing with the read ahead might improve performance.

Maximum RAM used

Hello everyone! Having a 2GB RAM in nexus 4, I am curious how much max RAM have you people used. After running my daily apps like Facebook,8 tracks, flipboard, what's app, viber, xda, drop box, chrome, I have used a Max of 1.2GB RAM. Post your max RAM usage.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I have used about a 1 GB of RAM. I love having extra ram in a phone

Lol. Yup. That extra ram Will be much helpful for the future updates. My friend's one x's 1 gig of RAM is now not sufficient for him.
Imho, nexus 4's power has not been used to the full yet. Optimization needs to be done, both in hardware and software. I believe we have a hardware that will go into full swing next year
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Most likely key lime pie will have more optimizations hopefully and it should debut this year.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
That is true. Take for example the galaxy nexus was released two years ago and its going strong
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I dunno why 1gig of RAM wouldn't be sufficient but i don't mind having the extra. And KLP rumors say that the new Linux Kernel will actually be substantially more RAM efficient.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
i usually have between 1375-1500mb free ram at any point of my usage(about 1650mb after killing my apps). i also use autostarts to prevent apps from starting up in the background, and i use greenify to tame wild apps.
I've seen about 1.2-1.4gb of my RAM being used. But there was someone who kept complaining that the nexus 4 would close apps even if plenty of space was remaining. i think that person even started a thread & posted videos to prove it .

anyone can fake that video. can even make it kill the background apps sooner when very little ram is used. all you have to do is change the memory management variables by raising them. plus, there are roms out there that do that too.
Yes. I feel like that nexus 4 kills certain apps or refreshes despite having enough RAM.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Using Elixer 2 widgets, I seen to hover between 1.2gb to 800mb free ram. I don't really close anything, pretty much just let it run on its own. Stock not rooted or anything. I have probably 50 give or take a few apps installed.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Ram use age is not only dependent upon the applications running... If you use roms like xylon or liquid etc there are options to show how much ram is used by applications, cache and one other thing which i can't remember right now.. So basically my ram use age in real life had always been nearly to 1.6 1.7 GB!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
is jelly bean optimized for 2gb?, Ive had apps close not crash and I wonder why if it needed the ram, would changing the vm heapsize help?
I checked and I usually have 700mb remaining.
My Galaxy Nexus ran perfectly with 1gb ram so its probably more like JB uses ram pretty efficiently. More helps tho.

That much RAM? you are on a custom Rom? Could you list your apps?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Maximum RAM used on my N4 was about 800-900 MB. Stock everything, with some services running like Facebook,Whatsapp,8tracks,Lightflow and a live wallpaper ..
As for the people wondering why some apps appear to "close" on their own despite having enough RAM. Its the app's fault, the code is not written well and does not advantage of Android's multitasking capabilities.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Mine has free 900+ mb

I don't use that many apps..and yea iam on a custom rom...but i guess u didnt get what i am saying...most of the time what ubsee ass ur free rom isn't actually free... It's being used by cache and other things...what most roms show u is only how much ram applications use..as u can see from my screen shot... The phones ram is never entirely free !

I personally use M-Kernel. But my two favorite kernels are M-Kernel and FrancoKernel. Both can be found in the Nexus 7 Original Development section.
You should install CM 10.1.2.
Everything seems to work and my Nexus 7 is faster than ever. I was running Paranoid Android and it was laggy as hell.

Maybe you have filled the SD card too much. When the nexus has very low free space, it slows down significantly.

Disable Halo.
If you're running stock 4.3, disable Google currents. This is a tried and tested fix that should fix any choppiness.
If the problem still persists, follow what veeman said and try using other kernels

For example, completely fill up your computer's hard drive and test how laggy it is compared to when it had nothing but the OS installed.

Help!
My phone says it has its memory completely full, but it says that the apps are bigger than the memory itself!
I'm running cyanogenmod nightlies.
