As per the title - there are a few nice benefits coming with Android 11, but it is unclear if OnePlus will extend support of the 7 Pro.
My suspicion is not, but has anyone read or heard anything that would point out the future strategy?

Why would you suspect it won't? Of course it will. All you need to check is OnePlus' history of updates to it's past phones. Honestly, the phone should get even 12.
I still have nightmares about the OnePlus two

You can blame Cyanogen Inc. for that one.
11 will be incoming...someday.

According to David Y on OnePlus Official forums:
First, my answer to the question on the thread title:
Yes. OnePlus 3/3T will get Android O. OOS team are working on it, even new community app (not public yet) just finished the compatibility work for Android O last week.
Here are some update I'd like to share with you guys:
Currently the OOS team are focusing on the OBT program and Android O for OP3/3T, also stable updates for OP5. Next stable update for OP3/3T was planned, will be a minor update updated Android security patch level to August.
I will keep you all in the loop once I got some latest updates.

Ask op2 owners about promises like this. Will see.

Well, unlike the OP2, the OnePlus 3 was much more successful, and had no hardware issues. Plus, due to the similarities in hardware (and consequently software) between the OnePlus 3 and the 3T, they can essentially provide support for 2 devices at the cost and effort of one. If they, for instance, decide to go back on their promise for some reason, they would be offending the owners of 2 devices at the same time. As explained earlier, there would be no logical reason in updating just the 3T and not the 3. Now the only way forward for OnePlus would be to deliver on the standard 18 month support promise. It WOULD however, be a miracle if OnePlus goes one step further and give us the P update too, whenever it comes out. Unlikely, but a man can dream...

the 1st time was a promise , this time is an official timeline, he stated what the development team is working on already , not what they intend to...so,
i get it was bad not to provide the OP2 with the N update, but the circumstances for the 3/T is different.

Totally agree drakonizer. :highfive:
Lets hope Android O isn't a mess, (like Lollipop was,) and that the final OS update for our devices is stable with good battery life. For the next year after it can be left untouched with just the security patch updated.
I also don't expect OP to update us to Android P.
If they do a blog like this I would love this! I do rather have Oneplus being honest to us with what they are planning and working on!
It's not like they having so many devices to update, so i don't see any problem they support 3/T further, to P maybe? why jack up the ram to 6 Gb and says it's for "future proofing" if the software alone isn't supported for long. this device is more than capable handling O and so on
This phone seems like mega value considering the specs but how is ColorOS,
I've seen some of the reviews online and at least some of it is similar to OxygenOS
Is ColorOS any good ?
Do Realme provide frequent updates ?
I read that ColorOS wasn't good but it has gotten a lot better getting closer to OxygenOS.

That seems to be the case, but I doubt it's anywhere as polished as OxygenOS
Oppo has been using color OS for years, It's not aosp but it ran really well on my oppo find 7. It didnt feel cheap or unfinished, lots of nice extras and handy stuff that stock android didnt have like dolby atmos and screen off gestures
Realme just announced that their next version will be very close to stock android and exclusive to Realme devices.

You are welcome to sell your phone and switch to another brand that rolls our updates faster. Also, let us all know when you find one.
Iphones are good for long software updates. Huawei has a lot of issues with maintaining their new HMS since Trump went full child mode because apparently Huawei spies, even tho a lot of american tech (excluding Apple, i guess) spy on us since the dawn of time.
Emui 10 got rolled out in China for p20 pro, not sure if it is beta or not.
I will be switching (possibly) to an Iphone xs max, because i grew tired of software update issues and all. I really hope i don't get any hate because i want to switch to an apple product. Android is great too, but Google likes to ruin in each update

Beta completely locks the bootloader, some people on the forums claimed that, as well as being a permanent lock

Simple. If you care about bootloader, go to oneplus or any other brand that allows custom roms. If not, stick to Huawei or go to Apple since it's the only brand who respects old devices(reason the price costs a kidney and a half) . Xiaomi counts too but they update their MIUI, not the android version, as well as oneplus too but uhh, not so sure about them yet.

Huawei isn't really such a bad company. It's only that they are too lazy to provide after sales support for any sort of device. I get it, Trump issues, Google issues, HMS issues. They should roll out Harmony OS as a beta software from devices that have Kirin 970 and up and let everybody develop apps and all, as well as test the software and allow people to report any sort of bugs. This way, the production of it will be a faster way to finish and polish Harmony OS. Their ego with "We are ready to replace you, Google" just make things worst, to the point where Trump can add a law to restrict all Chinese brands (yes, including Xiaomi and maybe Oneplus) from using Android all together, then everybody would be stuck on Android Q (or lower).
Either way, until Huawei fixes their issues and learns how to coop with the xda community and customers (now they need developers with HMS to develop apps, are we Huawei?), i will stick to Apple's Iphones, because even a 5 years old iphone still gets the latest software ( reason being the services, ofc). This is a lesson to be learned, Huawei. I am not the type of person who cares about bootloader and custom roms, but still, either coop with the community or watch your brand slowly die.

OnePlus 5 and 5T are now marked as EOL (End-Of-Life)
The devices received a last build OxygenOS 10.0.1 with September 2020 security patches, OnePlus now announced there won't be any further updates
oxygenupdater.com
Sad, but inevitable. The OnePlus 5 was a definite gamechanger for me when it debuted. Especially after coming from a 1st generation LG Stylo.
Not all hope is lost, however. At least it can live on with custom ROMs.
OnePlus 5: thanks for the memories.
I would only consider them EOL the moment OnePlus 6 receives Android 11.
In between I'll use Oxygen Updater one more time then put it to rest (maybe only until my next phone).
I'm not planning to stop using my trusty OnePlus 5 though and will start looking into custom ROMs.
Long live the king!
Yeah same I'm going to consider my OnePlus5 EOL once it develops a hardware fault like a failing battery.

No wonder I haven't seen you around much lately. My battery's at 2/3rd the capacity now, so might jump to something new soon-ish.

I still visit the forums, just not as often. I'm satisfied with the stable setup on my current device. Might as well stick with what works, right?
And as they say, "nothing lasts forever." It was a good run with the OP5, though. I'll keep in touch.

Reminds me of the Huawei P20 Pro and the uncertainty surrounding it, I can't be that unlucky to have two duds either side of the 8 Pro.

Seriously wish I'd kept my 8 pro man, such a good device, just superb really.
The leaps in SOC I think will start to slow down now too so the 9 pro would probably serve you well until something good comes out.
