On EMUI 10 you can't unlock the bootloader, so no root.

Ahhhh that's so sad!!! What if those bootloader has been unlock and update via OTA? Will it lose bootloader unlock capabilities?
Thank you
Emui 9.1 root retainer:
1)Boot without root (make sure that Magisk patched recovery_ramdisk is installed)
2)Connect the UDB cable and boot to eRecovery (Press Volume Up when rebooting)
3)From eRecovery select Factory Reset (that won't do any wipe, but il will boot with Magisk root)
4)After boot go to /splash2 /recovery folder and delete the "command" file (this will prevent an accidental wipe if you remove the Magisk patched recovery_ramdisk)
Check if Messages and other apps are now working even if you are rooted

Is there still no root option for Android 10 on P20 Pro ?

Yes, even if you have the code you won't be able to unlock the bootloader on EMUI 10.

I don't know if version 10 relock the bootloader because with android 10 in fasboot mode my p20 pro says "Phone: Unlocked".
On the other hand fastboot flash controls do not work.

Ok then... So long Huawei.

Hi all,
Is there any solution to root EMUI 10 (P20 Pro CLT-29)??
I have already unlocked bootloader when I had EUI 8 or 9..
When I want to flash twrp then I got failed message.. Write failed..
Due to EMUI 10 update I lost root and I want to root again but I can not flash twrp...
USB debugging ON and OEM unlock ON.
Please advise, thank you!

@moli1984
No root on EMUI 10, if you need it return to 9.1.

If the bootloader is already unlocked, you can roll back from 10 to 9.1 and it is still unlocked.

root Huawei P20 Pro to recover files
Hi Guys, I have a Huawei P20 Pro which runs on EMUI 10.0.0 model: CLT-L04. I have deleted some files (photos) from internal storage that I want to recover. Now the issue is that the phone is not rooted so file recovery softwares fail to access those deleted files. That's why I want to root the phone obviously without wiping off the data [deleted photos again]. Is there an option for me. Is there a way that I just boot it and recover my photos. It is not important whether the root process proceed or fail at the end. My goal is to recover my data not rooting. I appreciate if anyone can help me please.

If you go into your gallery app and scroll down there should be a folder called "recently deleted". They should be there, otherwise I think you may be out of luck especially since the latest android version on the P20 pro can't be rooted.

Hi,
I have installed EMUI 10.0.0.175 OTA update.
I have been reading for a few days, and a have seen there is no way to root EMUI 10.
My priority is recover some files that i saved in /data/local.
I tried with "adb backup -all" , but it only backups "/data/app" dir.
There is someting that can i do to recover this folder, without root?
Best regards.

It's absolutely possible. Since EMUI is using a boot ramdisk for early stage boot, you need to patch the ramdisk partition using Magisk. How to get the ramdisk image? Boot into TWRP and execute command `dd if=/dev/block/by-name/ramdisk of=/ramdisk.img` in TWRP terminal and then execute command `adb pull /ramdisk.img .` in your PC terminal. Patch the ramdisk.img using Magisk and execute `fastboot flash ramdisk Magisk_patched-xxxx.img` to overwrite ramdisk partition. Make sure you keep the original copy of ramdisk.img, in case of you accidentally brick your phone. (FYI, the first boot time will take little longer than usual, and the boot flash screen will display android icon instead of "HUAWEI")

Honor 7 Lite root

Hi,
I've been looking for instructions and stuff for rooting my phone Honor 7 Lite (NEM-L21) but I haven't found anything. The only valuable information I discovered was that Honor 7 Lite is probably a renamed Honor 5C for an european market. Some websites said it was renamed because there were changes in hardware (for example Honor 7 Lite supposedly doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, they say - but it's not true, from my experience I can say my phone does have it). So these websites can't be trusted anyway I guess. These two models look alike but I was thinking there could be differences anyway. I don't want to brick my phone. Has anybody tried to root this phone? Can anybody provide me any information about rooting it?
I'm sorry for my poor English and thank you very much for any answer.
Hi,
I have Honor 7 Lite NEM-L21 rooted by using method for Honor 5C. But before rooting, You must have an unlocked bootloader. Steps are:
1. unlock bootloader, after unlocking bootloader, phone will be wiped, so backup your data first - http://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/...our-honor-5c-official-and-unofficial-methods/
2. install custom twrp recovery for Honor 5c (known also as Huawei Nemo and Honor 7 Lite) - https://twrp.me/devices/huaweihonor5c.html
3. after installing twrp i recommend doing backup of boot, cust, oeminfo and system partitions to SD card
4. and now is possible install SuperSU zip from twrp recovery. Some instructions on the net recommends using the SuperSU-2.65 - https://download.chainfire.eu/921/SuperSU
Big Red Warning: for now, there are no firmware released for NEM-L21 in UPDATE.APP form for reflashing the phone from the Huawei eRecovery in case of if you bricked the phone. So, please do things carefully. I strongly recommends to do point 3 ASAP after installing twrp.

+1. This is the only safest way OP.
Sent from my honor 5X using XDA Labs
Instructions for rooting Honor 7 Lite/5C NEM-L21 b100 are relatively easy to find and follow: unlock with Huawei's code, flash TWRP and SuperSu...
But for me, rooting before updating firmware was a big mistake! Wish I didn't unlock&root this phone yet; should have just updated with FF.
After rooting i wanted to FF update b100 -> b351 Nougat7/EMUI5... But it required stock recovery, which I had already flashed to TWRP, damn!
Now, another option would have been to flash custom ROM, but I didn't find great ROMs around, just somewhat commercial LineageOS (lacks e.g. dual-sim support)
Anyway, I tried to flash b100 -> b351 with TWRP, failed and ended up with test-keys firmware. Then tried to download FF, but the only input method in test-keys seemed to be google voice instead of keyboard = no success.
Then couldn't find stock recovery.img anywhere, so extracted it from stock update.app with extractor. Luckily the extractor had linux version too.
Then flashed stock recovery, updated with update.app method from test-keys to b132, then FF update to b351.
Doesn't seem possible to root b351 yet; now waiting for Nougat7/EMUI5-compatible version of TWRP.
Last time i modified some Android phone 5 years ago, so count me as n00b sharing this bad experience. Hopefully somebody could learn something
Hello everyone.
I tried rooting with the method mentioned by circulus. Running into a wall, can't get TWRP to start, only thing I get is the default EMUI recovery. Honor 7 lite, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.1.2 and bootloader is obviously unlocked.
Any ideas?

No... Its stuck in the warning screen... I can still boot the system by holding power but if I attempt to reboot to recovery, its stuck in that warning. I can't access my PC just yet so it would be nice to be able to reboot to recovery without a PC.

Hi fellas.
Been busy but got an update, phone is successfully rooted now. Brainfarted a bit earlier and wasn't booting to TWRP.
Me no brain sometiems.

Firmware install

So in this method:
1) Download Stock ROM for Honor 5c from above and extract it.
2) Now create a folder dload in the root of your SD card and place the update.app file in that folder.
3) Now turn off your device.
4) Now press “Volume Up + Volume Down and Power Button” together. The update process will start automatically.
5) Now wait for some time to complete the process.
6) Done.
Do I need to put update.app in sdcard folder on my phone btw its honor 5c or can I put it on Micro SD card I am asking this because I dont have access of my internal storage.
but you answered to your own question at part 2. internal storage isnt sd card so what could be sd card? thats right, sd card!
AHA well i tought that it is maybe a folder on internal storage, never mind thanks

I have a rooted Honor 5C (NEM-L51C432B350 and Nougat) with twrp-3.1.1-0-venus recovery (unlocked bootloader etc.). Today the system informed me that there is an update: NEM-L51C432B357. Now I'm aware that with a rooted phone the update might be not as smooth or automatic.
What's the best way to preceed to apply the update without soft-bricking the phone? Granted I must restore the stock recovery. But do I have to relock the bootloader and remove the root as well? Or is there an easier way?
Also: in bootloader mode I see: FRP Lock. How do I unlock it?
Thank you

I think the easiest way would be dload method search for the update.app on web and you only need update so just download the update and not the whole firmware and do a backup before update and i think you dont have to relock bootloader and you dont have to remove root and for 7.0 nougat you need to have openkirin version of twrp
You can always just try just update it I think you should not have any problems but if you think you would you can try the method i wrote you
I hope i helped you

@leoleo333 and @wallace108 I upgraded from B350 to B357. I had to restore to STOCK revovery. My phone was not rooted but i am almost 100% sure that you need to REMOVE root. It could cause problems. As for the BOOTLOADER i did not relock my bootloader and suffered no issues installing the update. However the bootloader was locked afterwards and i had to unlock it once again and then install a suitable TWRP or any custom recovery of your choice that is compatible with EMUI 5+/Nougat.
Hope that helps(give me a thanx if so). Cheers

How many people bricked their phone while Rebranding/OTA and what solutions used ?

How many people bricked specifically hardbricked their phone after 2018-04-16 updates, while OTA or rebranding using any tool and choose which methods you tried to solve.
we need to show how many people we are,and seek for solution or encourage BOX groups to do something for this matter.
Even huawei may help us if they see we are bunch of people.
Edit: Just comment only if you solved the issue with this tool or any other tool that is not mentioned, here we are seeking help.

The only versions that will brick (so far anyway) are BLA-L29C636B137 and ALP-L29C636B134 from 16/4, neither is a noxloader version.
Bricks occur when you update/downgrade/rebrand FROM those 2 firmwares.

Please help.. I also bricked my Huawei Mate 10 ALP-L29C636...
I installed the EMUI 9.0 on my device using the HWOTA8_Mate10 method which was successful. The EMUI 9.0 ROM was from FirmwareFinder: ROM version ALP-L29C636E2R1P8B108-log (9.0.0.108). I didn't have any issues at all but since Huawei Mate 10's EMUI 9.0 is still in Beta, I decided to switch back to the stable EMUI 8.0.
Here's where the problem started... Since I want to downgrade, I went ahead and downloaded the 3 needed files (update.zip, update_all_hw, update_data_public) from FirmwareFinder: ROM version ALP-L29C636B143 (8.0.0.143). I fired up HWOTA8_Mate10 and started the installation process. The first step was to boot to fast boot and then plug the device, after that, the software asked me to unplug the device and press volume+ and power button but the device won't boot to recovery anymore. The device is now stuck at "Your device is booting now..." I tried rebooting the device but it won't work. Tried to go to eRevovery to wipe cache/factory reset but it will go back to "Your device is booting now..." page. I tried reinstalling the recovery.img via fastboot and tried to boot to recovery mode again but it won't work anymore. I believe my device is now soft bricked . I can still boot to fastboot, I even tried fastboot flash system system.img which was successful but the device still won't boot. Please help how to recover my device. I think I went too far and now I don't know how to fix this issue.

did you tried huawei pc app (hisuite)?
your problem maybe is because magisk, try to install in twrp "magisk uninstaller". or try to install via twrp, recovery_ramdisk.img, kernel.img and ramdisk.img from the last rom of android 8 (extract with huaweiupdateextractor), then install via twrp with hrupdater 0,4 the same update.zip that you extract the kernel.img, recovery and the other img that I told you.

If the update process didn't even started, you need to flash stock Pie kernel, recovery_ramdisk and system, using fastboot.
This should get you back to a working OS.

as far as I can read, I think he wants to come back to OREO, so he has to install first recovery_ramdisk.img, kernel.img and ramdisk.img from 8.0.0.143 (extracting those files with huaweiextractorupdate) and then flashing those files via fastboot or your twrp version. Then, he has to use hrupdater 0.4 to install 8.0.0.143
Am I right Pretoriano80?
please, fell free to correct me if i have commited any mistake
PD: MANDATORY TO HAVE UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER FOR THE PROCESS

No, first he has to recover the current OS, and my advise was only for that.
Then he will need to use a TWRP + NoCheck combo, to get back to Oreo.
HuRUpdater can't get you back to Oreo so you guys should stop using that with Pie.

I also installed the EMUI 9.0 on my device using the HWOTA8 method which was successful. The EMUI 9.0 (9.0.0.108). I didn't have any issues too. After a while I decided to switch back to EMUI 8.0. using also HWOTA8 I put three zip files with EMUI8 (update.zip .....). Update ended with error. That's it.
I only have fastboot working but I am able to flash only few partitions System.img, Recovery_ramdisk.img, Kernel.img. I tried to flash them many times - nothing.
Couple months ago I messed up with my phone and I had to buy and use DC-Phoenix. It worked for me then. This time did not because DC-Phoenix only support EMUI 8. They refunded me money I paid for - that's good thing but my phone is still bricked.
Then I've found MultiTool for Huawei

It shows that

HiSuite says device is not supported.
Is there any way to force HiSuite to recover not supported device?
Anyone knows the solution?

Couple months ago I messed up with my phone and I had to buy and use DC-Phoenix. It worked for me then. This time did not because DC-Phoenix only support EMUI 8. They refunded me money I paid for - that's good thing but my phone is still bricked.
Then I've found MultiTool for Huawei
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/tool-huawei-multi-tool-team-mt-t3523923
It shows that
https://gyazo.com/70820957c6638e27bfe79418dfb07e3e
(Firmware 9.0.0.108,device bla-l09,no serial number, no IMEI and battery status 0)
HiSuite says device is not supported.
Is there any way to force HiSuite to recover not supported device?
Anyone knows the solution?
I booked my phone for repair with Huawei Service.

I have tried. I flashed Pie 9.0.0.108 - nothing, 9.0.0.112 (chinese ver) - nothing. I tried BLA-L09 8.0.0.148(SP1C432) - nothing.
After flashing recovery_ramdisk, kernel and system of all above firmware there is no change only fastboot is working.
The problem is that downgrade process from Pie to Oreo went to 95% ( I thing - I don't remember exactly but for sure it was 90 something). It could have changed most of partitions to Oreo but left one or few unchanged (like verlist.img, xloadr.img, vendor.img, product.img).
From fastboot I am able to change (flash) only few partitions.
Do you gays know any other tools like dc-phoenix to force to flash all partitions. (Couple months ago when I used DC Phoenix with Emui 8 it used backdoor to flash difficult partitions.)
Example:
Writing XLOADER partition with file X:\Install\Telefony\Huawei_Mate_10_pro\DC_Phoenix_v50\XLOADER.img
XLOADER partition UPDATE ...FAILED
Cannot get FBlock info from device
Activating backdoor: DONE
Writing XLOADER partition with file X:\Install\Telefony\Huawei_Mate_10_pro\DC_Phoenix_v50\XLOADER.img
XLOADER partition UPDATE ...OK

I think you should use my TWRP + NoCheck recovery and try to flash the Pie beta again.

Do we have a stock boot image?

Well hello again! I am going to get Magisk using Magisk Manager, and I will use the patching method. But I can't find the stock boot image anywhere! I also don't know how to dump the boot image from the phone, so I need help. If any of you have the stock boot image for P smart (Android 8.0.0, EMUI 8, FIG-LX1), or know how to dump stock boot image, please send the image or send something like a tutorial. Any kind of will be appreciated, thanks.
..
I don't have TWRP, if I did, I would directly flash Magisk.

Unless your bootloader is unlocked you can't flash ANY .img file ...
If your bootloader is unlocked you can flash twrp custom recovery via fastboot & flash magisk .zip to root ..
I have a feeling you think you can somehow bypass unlocking your bootloader ...as if nobody else would have thought of that ..
Step 1 : unlock bootloader with dc unlocker
Step 2 : flash any twrp .img ( I'm using one by PretorianoO8
Step 3 : flash magisk & disable OTG update with any type of root app like sdmaid or titanium
:fingers-crossed: enjoy&goodluck
No there is no way around dc unlocker anymore .....SOT if you don't have a credit card and 4€ ..
You guys got me wrong, I HAD an unlocked bootloader, I just want to have the P smart's boot.img, it would be an easier way for me to root with Magisk.

you mean HAVE ..HAD is past tense ( ie it's no longer unlocked so not flashable) ..have .. present situation ..
it's very easy .. download firmware finder from playstore ..download full OTA package of choice ..extract the boot.img

at the moment, there is no 9.0 root. If you want to keep your root - stay on 8.1

he's saying that you can stay on 9.0 without root, or find the steps to go back to 8.1 and get root.

At this point in time Oreo vs Pie, Pie has been shown as a venomous conundrum, especially for EMUI, Tom Wu has had a hard time trying to exploit Android, it's almost impossible, not sure if @Chainfire has even bothered with his exploit, but i think anything at this point would do.
In all fairness PIE VS OREO, they're so similar, battery is similar, problems are similar, it's a waste of time to flap about and try to root PIE when Oreo is so functional.
Either way, until it's official, i'd avoid PIE.
I have a rooted P20 Pro, running EMUI 9.
This is how i got root on EMUI 9
1 - I Flashed THIS
Command: fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk patched_boot.img
2-Reboot phone, install Magisk manager, go into settings, and change the update channel to custom: https://t2m.io/wuAFCrwO, go back to the Magisk home screen and hit install, download the odd Magisk file.zip file.
3-Reboot phone, press and hold the volume up key and your phone should boot just fine.
4-Open Magisk, install, then patch, and install the downloaded Magisk.zip file.
5-Reboot phone, press and hold the volume up key and your phone should boot just fine.
6-Open Magisk, install, select direct install option. and reboot.
Note:
1 - Now your phone will reboot into the recovery every time on its own, which is a good thing, you no longer need to hold the volume up key every time you reboot, it does it for you. This means no TWRP.
2 - In order to apps root access for the first time you need to have Magisk open, or you wont get prompted for approval. Then the app will have permanent root access.
As always, if you do this it's at your own risk.
So no need for the bootloader unlock code from Huawei ?

No you definitely still need to unlock your bootloader, otherwise your can't control certain things which are required
So can you still get an unlock code for the bootloader on the 8.1?

Couldn't tell you, I unlocked mine back in may from Huawei for free.
Funky Huawei may be the last ones who offer it, but I'd say to research it before committing.
Ministry of solutions did offer keys but I've read that they don't anymore.
Unsupported/Unknown Image format
Hello,
After I push the patched_boot.img and reboot I tried to install the zip file I got the Unsupported/Unknown Image format.
Have you seen this before ?
Cheers from Calgary

Personally I just flash magisk to recovery_ramdisk then boot and install manager.
Then on each reboot, just try to boot to recovery and it'll load the magisk IMG which will make your ROM rooted.
Better ways to do it but that always works
