Strange network issue with V409N (Korean V40) - LG V40 Questions & Answers

I recently bought an used LG V40 but faced with strange problem. First it connect to network and shows LTE (if data is on) but suddenly network is lost then it search and connect again and again and again . . . usually in a few seconds interval.
Also same happens to WiFi network at the same time but if I put the phone in Airplane mode its WiFi keeps alive.
I've noticed the firmware was belong to KT operator so cross flashed an open Korean firmware (V409NO20h instead of V409N20h) so now I have LG logo instead of KT logo at startup but still that problem exist.
While trying different conditions noticed if I toggle Airplane mode twice the network become stable until next reboot!
Do you have any idea what's going wrong?

I have the same problem with my device (LM-V405EB)! I don't have the problem with the WiFi though, and the only way for me to get a stable connection, is by restarting my device. Turning on airplane mode doesn't fix it for me. Sometimes I don't have any data connection at all, even though my data is on. I'll have to restart again, to connect to data. I have the November security patch, but this happened before I got the update.
I really hope that there is a way to fix this, because it's very frustrating, especially when I need to use my data quickly.

Where do you use this phone? it seems the region is South Africa, so did you try to cross flash your own region firmware?
In my phone it seems that's a modem problem!

It is the South African version, which is where I'm from. I'm using the same carrier I purchased the device from, so I shouldn't be having any issues. I've also had my network resynced by my carrier, so I'm not sure what else can be done to fix it, if even a factory reset didn't help.

My APN settings are correct, as I am able to use data. It's just that when I have my WiFi on for a long time, my data connection refuses to connect, until I restart my device.
A network reset, factory reset, APN reset, and avnetwork resync via my carrier, were all tried and none of those worked.
I'm convinced it's a software bug [emoji2370]

[Q] Wifi disconnects data network after gingerbread update (i9000m)

Used Odin to update to gingerbread from froyo on my i9000m the other day. Theres no service here at home unless I put the phone on the bathroom windowsill, so I didn't notice until today when I went to work that I wasn't getting any data network connection. Could make and receive calls fine, wifi works, but no data, so no browsing or facebook or any apps that require it. I called bell and they came to the conclusion that I have to send the phone in for repairs. Thats a absolute last resort, so I tried another factory reset, this time from the recovery menu. The first time, during set up I enabled wifi, this time on a hunch I did not, and it worked. Also note that the first time, the network connected for a split second before disconnecting again. Anyways, I was getting 3g fine, then I tried wifi, and it disconnected again. Turn off wifi, data comes back. Whats up with this?
Did you set your APN? Go
Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Network > APN Names
Then hit menu and add a new APN if none are there. If one is there, it's named something like 'browser' (at least that's what mine is called on my Bell i9000m) and I'm wrong. But I had this problem, and this is how I solved it. You can find the APN settings for your network by google-ing "[Provider] APN Settings]", and if you're on bell you can find them here:
http://support.bell.ca/en-on/Mobili..._Nexus_One_for_the_Bell_Mobility_HSPA_network
It says Nexus One but it works for all phones on bell.
settings are exactly as depicted on the bell site, except the apn was called browser instead of bell. changed that, same thing. other suggestions?
Can you tell me the version of gingerbread you're on, where you got the files, any mods to the firmware like pre rooting?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
2.3.3, downloaded from here, no mods.
Alright, so totally stock. What's the version code? It should be UGKG3. Have you tried forcing a kies update with a registry hack? Was it one PDA when you flashed it or 3 files?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Yes, its UGKG3. I flashed with the PDA, PHONE and CSC files. I dont really know what you are talking about with regards to forcing a kies update, if you could explain I'd try it out
This has always happened to me, on Eclair, on Froyo, and now on Gingerbread. Whenever my Wifi is active *and* connected to a network, the Data through HSPA is automatically disconnected.
I always thought it was a battery saving feature - if you have Wifi access, and presumably internet access, then you don't need internet through the cell network, right?
So if you're not getting internet access when your wifi is active and connected, then perhaps it's a problem with your wifi router not passing external internet to your phone?
The thing is nothing changed besides the firmware. wifi worked fine here in the house before and no problems connecting to the data network on the go with wifi enabled. I'm really running out of ideas here.
I guess I misunderstood you before. Are you saying you have no data access at all when wifi is enabled, whether or not you are connected to a wifi network? If that is true, something is definitely wrong. That doesn't happen to me with KG3 - just checked.
Have you tried reflashing the modem file? Maybe it got messed up in your flash before?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
yes, no data regardless of wifi connected or not, as long as its enabled.
which is the modem file?
just an update, this seems to have mysteriously fixed itself.

3g/H packet data problem - N7000

Hi there! would like to seek your help regarding my galaxy note, I encounter packet data on/ff and cannot connect to mobile data (internet) but my sim card is working (can send sms and call). i just put my phone yesterday to flight mode and after that it cannot able to connect to internet. I did factory reset and some wipe of cache.. is there any advice? my phone is rooted already with franco kernel (stock ICS rom only). Please help Sir.
Please do not "FACTORY RESET" , You could potentially brick your phone.
1. Try to see if you have your "DATA" on. With DATA off 3g/h/h+ will not work only wifi would.
2. Worst case scenario, take out your SIMCARD and put it back again.

Hi, Thanks for the reply,
I already did some of the basic steps, It just so happen that the history of this problem was because after I put my phone to "flight mode for about 5 hours" and the the packet data icon "3g/H" were no "DOWN arrow" color orange where as I know is a sign of good connection. but the icon only lit the "UP arrow" please help
May also be a issue with having incorrect APN information (Some carriers do not Automatically push out the right details)
Under settings> Wireless And Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Check the listings are correct for your network.

Hi, Actually my phone's packet data was working well before I put it in "flight mode" meaning my APN settings is OK. for reference here are some of my screen shots which I edit to see the ICONS status,,thanks for the help!.
Don't know what still seems like a apn issue. Only because I would expect atleast one reply from the network during the connection discussions.
The fact that the orange arrow never lights up to me indicates that the network never gets the sent packets.
Have you tried anything like the apn on/off alps from the the playstore.
Otherwise I cannot see why having airplane mode on for a while would permanently ruin your data connection

Hi, yup but as you know some apn tweatering app is no longer feasible with ICS,
Yes, I am also not convince about after flight mode / airplane mode activation that causes my phone not to connect to the internet. I guess this is related to root bug, this was my 1st time to enable flight mode under rooted condition so I wonder that this might be the root caused. Can anyone suggest to unroot? Please advice, Thanks and Mabuhay!
Bump
Sorry to be bumping this old thready but was the OP able to ressolve the problem? I have been having exactly the same issue but only intermitantly, if I reset my phone everything is fine for a while and then all of a sudden I loose the orange arrow and will only see green.
I am unable to recieve calls or make them, no internet etc. I am on Tmobile UK now EE, have gone through the standard error checking with tmobile but no luck, first they said it was the network being down and no they say it's my phone but I don't see how it's been fine for ages and all of a sudden I have this problem.
It's totally random, I have decent reception so I have say 3g or h+ with 2 or 3 bars but no orange arrow
Any ideas?

[Q] CyanogenMod 2G/3G problem.

Hi, I am currently using Mackay's ROM which is CM 10.1 based. Sometimes when I turned on 2G data, it won't connect at all. When I tried switching to 3G, it stays at 2G and nothing happens. When I switched to airplane mode, the data switched to 3G but the signal bar stays full bar on my drop-down menu and there is no signal, aeroplane icons on the top right corner of the phone. The problem also occurs the other way round when i switch from 3G to 2G. The problem is only solved when i reboot my phone, however after another few minutes or so, I have to reboot again for data connection. Does anyone have a permanent solution for this? As it is frustrating to keep rebooting. And i tried changing APNs. The default APN for me is MiWorld WAP (GPRS). However, the default APN does not really connects. It's like a Laptop having a 'Limited Connection' WiFi. So I can only switch between the other 2 APN with is M1 and Sunsuft Internet, which the problem still occurs. Thanks to anyone who replies.
Have a nice day!
Already tried flashing a newer baseband?
Sent from my LG-P760 using xda app-developers app
Yes, sometimes this happens to me too...but it always did with every CM10/CM10.1-based roms.
I tried many basebands (v20, v28, v30), but it always happens. To me, about twice a week.
I always thought this could be related with the fact that we don't have a baseband made for jelly bean, and so I gave up on this issue.
When it happens, I simply reboot my phone.
And I avoid to use airplane mode, because usually after disabling it (if I left it enabled for more than a few minutes) I can't get network coverage until I reboot.
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the reply. I will try flashing newer baseband.
//Edit 1 What is the recommended baseband in Singapore? I tested V30B Euro OPEN, but doesn't seem to solve it.
//Edit 2 I read on other threads which says choose the baseband from your region, and i went to download a V30C Singapore version of the firmware and extracted and flashed the baseband. It seems to be working well.

Suddenly unable to connect to home wifi

So my wife's motox decided to stop connecting to my home wifi/cable modem. My phone (LG G2) as well as all laptops/tablets connect fine. My G2 can see about 8 nearby networks, the MotoX always sees my neighbors network and occasionally a 2nd or 3rd but that's about it. If my home network finally shows up I enter the password and it immediately switches to "Out of range" and shows as a Saved network. I enabled the hotspot on my phone and the MotoX still didn't show the hotspot. Here are the things I've tried so far:
- Forget network and readd it if/when it finally shows up as a visible network.
- Cleared cache from recovery
- Rebooted
- Toggling airplane mode
- Disable just data
- Power cycled cable modem. Also Hard reset it and set the network back up.
- Disable wifi optimization, notify when open network is available, as well as the always allow scanning.
- Switched from auto to 2.4 Ghz only.
- Switched between multiple channels on router.
The MotoX is the Canadian version, 4.4.2 stock, unrooted. Router is an awesome Hitron piece of crap but it's been working perfectly fine for months.
Short of doing a factory reset, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

You have already tried everything that I would suggest, short of a factory reset. If you do factory reset, please let us know if it resolves your issue. Since you are not rooted, I'm confused as to how this could happen :/
Good Luck
I am assuming you have already unchecked the "avoid poor connections" option too in the wifi settings.

It was already unchecked so I didn't touch it.
Some routers can't handle certain number of conectinons, try rebooting your router
The router is built in with the cable modem which I've already rebooted as well as reset completely. Also with the phone only able to see a couple of networks at a time when there should be 8 - 10 visible at any time I think the phone is the problem. I just can't figure out what happened.

A few users have randomly had issues with WiFi, and their issues were only resolved by flashing the entire stock SBF as per the "Return to Stock" thread.
If a factory reset does not resolve your issue, you may consider SBFing back to stock. Since you will be flashing the stock rom (with matching CID), this is possible even with a locked bootloader.
Good Luck
I saw some posts about the SBF thing but wasn't sure if that applied to an unrooted / locked device or not. Thanks for the info.

An update for anyone looking for one. Her phone stated working fine yesterday on its own. It picked up and connected to our home network on its own and it can see all of the nearby networks like mine does.
Neither of us have done anything to it yet. Haven't touched the router or her phone since I first posted the problem.
Sorry I don't have an actual solution for you.

Ok so wifi decided to crap out again. This time I did a full wipe (internal storage included) and now wifi doesn't even turn on. It flips to ON for half a second then immediately back to off. Bluetooth does the same thing. I've called my provider (Rogers) and they're sending me another one.
Considering the wifi and bluetooth are on the same chip I guess the whole chip is toast or loose or something. Either way its well beyond a software fix.

You did a full wipe, but did you actually SBF back to stock? As I had commented previously, ONLY a full SBF back to stock can repair a corrupted filesystem. A "Full wipe" just erases cache and userdata.
SBFing actually REPLACES all the partitions. If you haven't tried, you can't say for certain that it is well beyond a software fix. It could have simply been a corrupt file...
Good Luck
If it was my phone I would have tried a SBF but considering it's my wife's she's a big more hesitant to let me and if they're sending us a new one, why bother?

[Q] Losing data connection after losing and regaining signal

I have found that whenever my phone loses signal and then regains it, I have no data connection until I restart the phone. Even toggling airplane mode or manual signal search does not restore data. I have tried disabling 4G but that doesn't make any difference. I also don't have WiFi on as I never use it.
Does anyone else have this same problem and know a solution? It is extremely frustrating having to restart my phone up to 5 times a day and not receive emails etc.
I had more or less the same. What helped in my case was adding the apn of my provider manually instead of letting the network and phone handle it.

this can cause by network or firmware bug
you can manually add APN if system delete it then repair Firmware by PC Companion

my problem may be slightly different in that I could not connect to Internet when out of wifi range unless I did a restart.Resolved by switching off stamina modes.
You coult try this: http://forums.androidcentral.com/so...ia-z3-losing-data-connection.html#post4235021
It works for me. Next week the Z3C will be updated to Lollipop. Let's hope it will solve this bug.
