Poor audio after update - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

It seems like ever since my phone received the December update, my audio has been pretty poor. I have to crank up the volume on all sound, media, and alerts to hear anything.

I don't think that my observation is exactly the same but I have noticed that the maximum volume when using Bluetooth devices is pretty low. On a scale of 0 to 50 in my Lexus, an iPhone 11 Pro is already quite loud when the volume is around 30. Pixel 4 XL can easily be pushed to 40 and it is still not particularly loud.

Spot on. Same with my wife's xr, it is sooo loud.

I've never had an issue with the audio output whether from the built-in speaker or connected to my car via Bluetooth. I max out the Bluetooth volume and control it through the car.

I do the same thing but the maxed out Bluetooth audio from the Pixel 4 XL is much, much quieter than my iPhone 11 Pro and my Galaxy Note 10+. It's as though there is an internal volume cap of some sort.

Well compared to my wife's S9+ and my old 2 XL, they're all pretty much the volume on my car or her's. No less or more volume on the car stereos.

Don't know what to tell you. It's obviously different, though I cannot explain why.

Have you changed any of the Bluetooth settings in the Developer Options?
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

No, nothing at all. I don't recall this being an issue prior to the December patch, but I'm not 100% certain since I had a hiatus away from Pixel 4 XL for about 1.5 months.

What do you think about the low sound on Galaxy Note!

I've had this mobile like 2 months now. and im starting too realize how bad the sound on this device is. I have 3 set of Headphones like Bose Quietcomfort, Beats by dre, and the sound is so much better and higher if you try the same headphones on my old iphone 4. Why do samsung have so low sound? any suggestion? ive tried the most of volumeboosters out there like Voodoo or Volume plus etc, it gets a litle better but far away from the old iphone?
I have had no problems with the sound on my Note. Maybe yours is defective?

Low as in volume or quality? When I have compared my phone to my old galaxy s, an iphone, and an HTC sensation, my Note far surpassed them all in terms of volume and quality.

I have to agree, haven't noticed any problems with music or video sound quality/volume through stock and big AKG headphones. Maximum is always a little too much for normal listening.

After repairing my broken display, there is room for another speaker. I don't have problems listening to music through headphones over barking dogs(work). Im not disappointed but I did have high expectations for the speaker on the back.

Sorry to hear your having problems. Subjectively, I'm having no problems with the sound. In fact though this phone is similar to the S2, i have noticed much improvement with the note's sound quality in-call.

I experienced the same thing as you, as I had an iPhone 4 previously and the sound quality from the iPhone was much more full and overall louder.
The fix for my Note was to get Voodoo Louder from the market (paid app), and it does wonders for obtaining higher volume levels, as well as giving the Note a more full bodied sound (though only through your headphone jack).
Give it a try and see!
for me galaxy note produce high quality sounds and sound volume can be realy high. I had sgs2 and listening within music was pain in the ass
Try removing dirt from your ears LOLJK...just buy voodoo louder or poweramp.
I fixed the low sound volume in the stock music player by going to> menu> more> settings> equalizer> custom> and r
move the levers all the way up, all of them, than go to sound effects and choose> Bass Enhancement, and be careful not to damage your ears, the internal streakers will be louder too.
Instead of bass enhancement, try this http://knowmydroid.com/blog/enable-megabass-android-phone
I recently purchased a Galaxy Note (GT-N7000). And I noticed that when I use the AUX port in my car to play Google Music through - I have to turn up my volume much higher than I did with my iPhone 3G. I have the "Media Volume" all the way up on my Note. Problem is that if I switch to the radio - which is rare but might happen - it will be far louder than using my phone. Any way to level this out?
Oh please just read my post one post above yours, my car's speakers will blow off while using the GNote.
I get better sound quality on my note with stock headphones than used to on my iPhone 3g(stock headphones), maybe was something faulty with the iPhone... Also i don't need to raise the volume over the middle level sound bar. That's loud enough!

That also happens with my pioneer car unit. With the iPhone i used level 20 plugged with the phone port rather than the headphone out(wich bypassed the iOS volume), with the note i have to use something like vol 40! What i do is set the Multimedia volume to the MAX that seems to "fix" the problem! ...
There's little benefit from software here. Like sgs2 note has inferior DAC( yamaha) compared to SGS or iphone. It's hardware limitation here.

I have beyerdynamic DT990 600ohm. It is not bad with note compared to my x fi titanium HD + external headphone amp e9.
It is a little bit loud at maximum volume. So I guess normal headphone should work fine without volume issue.

[Q] Moto X Headphone volume too loud?

I just got my Verizon Moto X a few days ago and whenever I use my headphones, I find the volume to be very loud. In a normal setting (i.e quiet room) the volume on the lowest setting is very very loud, not quite unbearable, but very loud compared to other phones. Has anyone experienced this? and is there any app in the play store that can control this?
(I'm using the apple earpods and i'm not sure if the volume changes with different headphones)
I was just noticing the same thing today.
No, I find the phone jack to be very high quality sounding this time and have a little more power output. Either you have a defect or you are using a 16ohms earbuds or in ear monitors that are to easy to power.

I agree, This phone sounds a lot better than my Note 3 did. I was very surprised the first time I put in my earbuds.
Very very pleasantly surprised with the sound coming out of this thing. Sounded amazing in my car today.

Can Someone Comment On Audio Quality?

Music audio quality via Aux and Bluetooth are key for me. I need to know if it's true that the new Note 7 with the 820 supports the same quality that is in the HTC 10. I was reading some posts elsewhere that the Note 7 has some new drivers that are different than the S7 and should be the same quality as the HTC 10. I currently own the 10 and love it, but mostly because of the Boomsound/Audio quality when listening to music. But I really love Sammy's OLED display and Camera.
I'm by no means an audiophile, and I've never owned an HTC. But I do have a decent set of medium-priced Shure in ear headphones that sounded great on my Note 4, GS5, and continue to sound great on my Note 7. If you're really picky about sound quality I highly recommend going to your nearest T-Mobile or Best Buy and try out a display model with your headphones of choice.
Flawless.
Unless a test is released, I will continue to assume it is nothing special and an average performer.
It is very close to the same sound quality as the Note5. Can't compare it to the HTC but from the articles I read, I am not sure if compares or not. It sounds good but it still could benefit a lot from Viper4Android.
I have jump on demand and came from the HTC 10. The screen and s-pen are amazing. Blow the HTC away.
The audio is garbage on the note 7 compared to the 10. It is exactly the same hardware as the S7. Speaker gets decently loud but there is no crispness like on the 10. And the headphone jacks are no comparison.
In fact I ended up buying a Fiio Q1 dac/amp to make up for it.
Lg v20 releasing tonight with quad dac.

I'm no audiophile either but my Note 7 sounds pretty good with Beats Solo Wireless phones, particularly if I plug it in. The Samsung Level Pro U I have which is supposed to tap into the UHD feature could use some more bass but is otherwise okay.
Samsung has a protocol called UHQ. It only works with three audio devices from, of course, Samsung. The level On Pro, the Level on U Pro and a bluetooth speaker. Coupled with Poweramp beta, it will either up convert everything to 24\192, or most importantly, stream native 24\192 wired or .......WIRELESSLY (emphasis mine).
As the proud owner of countless bluetooth stereo devices, going back to 2005, this is the highest bar achieved, I've heard from a mobile device, without an external DAC. As with all unqualified statements of excellence, I am sure others will have opinions on this. I will be listening to Music.
The sound quality I get from the Note 7 without modifying (all flat) it is fine. I like the "Tube Amp Pro" (simulates soft timbre of tube amplifier). Not perfect by any means. And not the same high quality of an high end audio system. But impressive.
You are never ever going to get the high end wired audio quality sound from Bluetooth. Bluetooth will be much better than any "smartphone" builtin speakers by a large margin. Only wired high end full range full sized headphones will you get true high end quality audio sound.
What surprises me is how many people don't care about sound quality. They rather have the convince of the builtin speakers or Bluetooth. It is the Thing now days to play all audio through your builtin speakers. No matter where you are and who is around you. Convince is over ruling quality.
So I am very surprised to see someone asking about audio quality.
It also surprises me to see how many people think "okay" quality sound is high quality.
-
So,......................if you are as convinced as you are that no protocol will improve Bluetooth, who am I to change your mind as it already made up. With the advent of the loss of the jack on the Iphone, there will some increased urgency to make bigger strides to improve wireless audio devices.
Not to sound too much like a fanboy but this tech is different. I am pretty sure this isn't a case of cognitive dissonance but I hear a great deal of difference between using these below with and without UHQ turned on.
http://www.samsung.com/us/audio/hea...wireless-pro-headphones-black-eo-pn920cbegus/
I am currently using the above, the VModa wireless and the Dash with the Note 7. This is better and compares well to the KEF wired headphones.
If any of you own the recent samsung phones, get a set of these and if they don't change your mind about bluetooth, I'll pay your return shipping (limited to 5 of you)
Please be sure to use the UHQ app and Poweramp beta with the experimental 24\192 streaam.

I used to have the Note 5 and definitely was louder. The thing is, the Note 7 has IP68 rating for water resistance, so the phone is pretty sealed up and the sound is weak because of it.

Note 8 is louder, inaccurate post.
I went from my AT&T Galaxy s8+ I have been using for 3-4 months to the unlocked Galaxy Note 8 today and the sound from the speakers on the Note 8 blew the doors off my truck!
Ok, that might be an exaggeration but the Note 8 is substantially louder than my s8+ is.

My Note 8 was obnoxiously loud right out of the box. Haven't changed anything but turn the default volume down because it was too loud.
BTW my Note 8 is unlocked shipped straight from Sammy.
Thanks for the reply guys. Glad to see all of you do not have the same issue. Maybe I just have defective speaker. Unfortunately I bought this with the note 7 discount so I will have to just deal with it. I will try a factory reset. Maybe it's some setting I'm missing. Thanks again.

It is and that's not opinion its been repeatedly measured by reviewers.
Samsung are years behind several flagship brands in terms of speakers or should I write lack of a second speaker. Not only are Samsung behind with speakers the 'one' they offer is rather below par and they really need to address this in future models. In terms of sound reproduction via headphones they are above average but NOT top draw in that respect either.
The lack of attention to speakers on a mobile in this price range does concern me and I have written in previous posts had it not been for the S-pen I would be looking at the LG V30 as a serious alternative as Audio quality is second on my list of prioritise the S-pen obviously being my first.

"loud" doesn't mean better. everyone agrees that the sound on the S8 and Note8 aren't as good as other flagship phones. this thread is simply about whether or not the Note 8 sucky speakers are louder than the S8 sucky speakers. the dude you quoted just said one speaker was louder than the other, he didn't say anything about sound quality.

Bottom Speaker

Hi all...
My 2 month old 4XL.
I was comparing it's speakers to my wife's S9. And when I turned both of their volumes to max, my speaker simply fell short of S9.
On inspection I found that the bottom speaker had suddenly become very low in volume.
I did try other songs as well.
Then I thought of restarting my phone and now the problem has gone away. They are back to normal awesome speakers.
Should I be scared???
I imported this set from the USA in India.
Thanks
