Issue with unlocking bootloader - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Once the app reaches 99% it fails and says "sorry, your mi id is not associated with a phone number"
I tried everything I found on google/reddit/xda from ensuring the device was added to the account via developer options, validating the sim, reading my phone via the website directly etc.
Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Doesn't work.

Same here, i got this message 2 days ago and now it still happens, i think it's server problem

I would freakin love a solution to this. I've tried every single solution I've seen over the web and nothing has worked so far.

Do you want to be more specific?
Anyway, I'll expand a little bit.
Start the process again.
Login to a Mi account on the phone.
Go to the Mi Unlock Status, in the developer options.
Turn off WiFi and and hit the button.
Now when using the Mi Unlock Tool, use the phone number of the SIM in the phone to login.
Did not make any changes to the Mi account and don't change the Mi account connected to the phone.

After hitting the button in the Mi Unlock Status screen, check the Mi ID of the account logged into the phone, you should be able to see this in the Mi account details settings.
Then enter this Mi account ID as the user ID in the Mi Unlock Tool, using your normal password. This, in theory, should work.
If it does and you get the 168 hours wait message do not, under any circumstance, make any changes to the Mi account, or change the Mi account logged in to the phone, or hit the button again in the Mi Unlock Status screen.

Yes I've also tried this too, and it still doesn't work. By default, the MI account ID = user ID.

Sure, I will be more specific:
The device is Chinese K20 Pro Premium 12/512
The OS is up to date.
My phone number is associated and shown correctly both on the phone and on the web, and I get an 2FA texts correctly when trying to make changes to my account.
The SIM card is in, wlan is off and data is on.
Developer options "allow oem unlock" is on.
Account is bound in "Mi unlock status"
Mi unlock tool and drivers are up to date.
I connect my phone in fastboot.
device is verified, but unlock gives an error at 99% "Mi ID is not associated with a phone number"
Changing the phone number and changing it back doesn't help.
Signing in and out doesn't help.
Using "find my phone" doesn't help.
Using Mi ID/phone number/email to log in the unlock tool makes absolutely no difference.
Maybe Xiaomi's verification servers are DDOSed, otherwise no idea what I am doing wrong.

It does look like there is a problem with Xiaomi servers.
There's a few people now on these forums having issues and I've just had a look on the Mi Community forums seen people discuss it.
For a long time there's been a bug when starting the unlock process on the phone, when the Mi account currently logged into the phone doesn't have the phone number associated with it.
What should happen is that the phone number from the SIM should be added to the Mi account, but what happens is that a new Mi account is created with the phone number.
So logging in with your normal Mi account gives the error everyone is now seeing, in this case.
This is the reason why logging in to the Mi Unlock Tool using the phone number usually works, because you are actually logging into the new account that you are unaware was created. (It's easy to prove this is what has happened, because you can login into your existing Mi account, then log in using the phone number and you see this is then a different account, with a different Mi ID)
Seeing that many people are failing to unlock the phone and the normal solution is failing, then it does seem like a Xiaomi issue.

Yeap, it definitely looks like the problem is on Xiaomi, because I think I've pretty much tried almost everything by now.
With that said, I'm just going to try and try again every 24 hours or so, or wait for an actual working solution.

For everyone whos having this issue, could you please head over to settings>about phone>all specs>status and check if your phone number is listed or unknown.

My SIM 1 slot shows the number correctly (though without international prefix, just local format)
My SIM 2 slot is disabled for now because it's my high speed limitless 4G data SIM, it has no number, and the instructions for unlock specify explicitly that the unlock request in the status check should go through the mobile data of the SIM associated with your Mi account.

So after a lot of frustration and numerous tries here is what worked for me, not sure if these matter or just a coincidence but.
1. Sign out from your device.
2. Using a PC browser, delete your xiaomi account (this is under "settings" in my info)
3. On your phone, create a new xiaomi account with your phone number, say yes to all prompts (Mi cloud, activate find my phone).
4. On your phone browser, go to account.xiaomi.com, enter the credentials, add your email.
5. Go to Mi unlock status in developer options and associate the number (allow OEM unlock should also be on).
6. Boot to fast boot.
7. In Mi unlock tool, paste your phone number, do not type it!
This seems to be important to me, because due to some bug, when I type my number there is no international prefix drop down menu, when I pasted the number (after typing it 100s of times today) this international prefix dial code suddenly appeared. Making me believe there was a mismatch in the number which caused the problem.
8. Connect phone and proceed to unlock. The timer is now 168 hours.
Hope it helps.

Too many Mi Accounts are associated with the phone number ********. Wait 6 months after deleting your Mi Account to add this phone number to another account.
Great.
Regardless, typing my number to log inot the tool appears to show the country code for me. Would logging in via email/account number not solve this issue too?

The country code was the thing for me.
I suggest you get a prepaid sim to use for a week, and start from scratch, you won't need this Mi account anyway after the unlock.

Xiaomi mi 8 mi account locked :(

Hey everyone so i got this mi 8 in compensation for something i did fully know it was locked and i hoped i could somehow unlock it but this is worse than Icloud LMAO
So my question is after trying bunch of Indian videos on youtube nothing worked ofc, anybody has any advice or tip ?
I can provide things such as IMEI and the Lock Code that's it .
You can hire a service to unlock it for you. Just Google Xiaomi Mi8 unlock service.
I believe that they help you using teamviewer. I haven't personally used these services but have read that as long as the service provider has an EDL account that they can unlock it and get it backup and running.
Another option is to contact the person that sold you the device and have them give you their Mi Cloud credentials, then after you have removed the device from their account, you can create your own account and bind the device to your account.
Edit : I just read about a tool called Hydra : You can read more here: https://www.hydra-dongle.com/brands/xiaomi/mi-8-(dipper)/
Again, I have never used these services so buyer beware. Though I am sure it will be worth the gamble if you are only spending $30. If it works then come back and let the XDA community know.
Try online service it takes 1-3 days i did it so many times

That doesn't resolve the issue, his phone is bound to the previous owners account. The issue is not booting the phone to system.
The only real solution is getting the account information from the previous owner.

It sounds like you've got more than one Mi account and the phone number is registered to a different account than the account connected to the phone.
Try logging out of your Mi account on the phone, then log in again, but using the SIM phone number as the account ID.
If that works, then you will also need to log in to the Mi Unlock Tool using the phone number for the account ID.

Is there a way to reset a phone if you don't know the mi account password?

My dad wants to sell his mi 9
He doesn't remember the password he used when setting up the phone.
He apparently used an unknown email when setting it up, because if we ask for a reset link by email it says it isn't valid
If we try to reset by having a code texted to him, there is no code being received
This is super annoying to be able to unlock the phone but that not being enough of a security check to perform a reset

On the other hand, I would think that security is good if a random user is blocked from resetting the phone. For a user to not just forget the password but also to forget what email address was used when setting up the phone it takes quite a lot of forgetting! To allow anyone to reset the phone is in my mind a bad idea.
To be able to unlock the phone you need to use the Mi-account, but to be able to perform a reset you need to log on to the Google-account used when you initially set the phone up. Unlocking and resetting are two different things, the first handled by Xiaomi and the second is handled by Google.

Nope, you can't reset the phone without the Xiaomi password. He knows the google account and password.
I dug around some more and was able to discover that there is no email associated with his xiaomi ID. It just has his phone number. But since it is refusing to send a text to that number with a verification code, I don't know where to go.

The kind of reset that requires access to the Mi account is when you want to restore backup from Mi Cloud.
For factory reset you don’t need the Mi account, you just need access to the Google account used when the phone was last set up.

Need a way to remove mi account lock on my own device cause Xiaomi won't help

Some months ago, I purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 from a local store, here, in Greece.
The device was originally given to my brother who has been using it for about a month or so. He knows nothing about tech in general and I was not with him when he set up his phone, so he created a new gmail and mi account on his own.
A few days ago, he was given another device that he is more familiar with, so he decided to switch to it and give the Redmi 8 to my other brother.
Before handing it to him, he told me to create a backup of his photos and perform a hard reset on it in order to wipe everything in the device. I did so, but when rebooting the device after the hard reset, I came across a message telling me that the device is locked and that I need to log in using my old mi account in order to unlock it.
Well, you may have already understood what the problem is. He doesn't know the password to neither his mi nor his gmail account and he didn't even add his phone number as a password reset backup so there is no way for me to unlock it using that way.
Manual verification doesn't work either, cause the accounts are considered to be new, as there are no previous passwords, emails or any kind of history associated to them.
I searched about it and found out that I had to contact xiaomi global in order to sort this issue out so that's exactly what I did (I tried contacting Xiaomi Greece first but they told me that they couldn't help and that I had to send an email to Xiaomi Global).
I sent an email to Xiaomi describing my issue in detail. In the email I also included everything that proved that I am the original owner of the device, because I understand that without proof they wouldn't be able to do anything.
So I included:
- A photo of the locked device with me holding it
- A photo of the device's box with me holding it
- A photo of the IMEI numbers written on the box and on a sticker that came with the device, which I also included as text (in written form) in the email's body
- A photo of the official receipt that I received from the store upon purchase
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
After four days of communication, switching to different case managers and with me describing my problem again and again, their final answer was that they simply can't do anything about it, because of privacy concerns.
Keep in mind that I don't want to recover my brother's old mi account, I don't care about it, he doesn't care either. What I'm asking for is to have my legally purchased device unlocked, by either completely removing the mi account that is associated with it or switching it with a mi account that he actually knows the password for.
Since then, I've contacted Xiaomi Global again and again, multiple times, and I always receive the same reply, that due to privacy issues they don't accept any unlock requests. For my own legally purchased device ffs!
I read about similar cases online, that got sorted out without even providing a receipt of the purchase and my case is somehow related to privacy issues and cannot be solved, so I'm left with a totally useless device.
Is there any other way to unlock it, I'm extremely frustrated with their behavior, so much that I think I won't be buying any Xiaomi devices anymore.

I haven't had to try it but people in the mi community have recommended it , other than that I'm sure how else to by pass user login
Unless you remember the user name you can try to renew change the password by logging in on pc
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
go to https://account.xiaomi.com and retrieve your password by mail and if you connected it to your sim number get it out of your phone and insert it in another one to reserve verification SMS
Hi. I have the same issue. Bypass don't work. Could it be helpful to downgrade the device to older OS? Does anyone has experienced a positive bypass?

I have the same Problem, i purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro (ther big one with 128GB Storage) second Hand. The Seller has removed his Google Account but not his Xiaumi Account. So he also has left his Data on the Telephone because he was very busy and asked me to remove it from the Phone.
So it's my first Xioami Device with having a Xiaomi Account and i never had anything to do with such Accounts, only the Google Account that you need on most of all Phones. So i performed a Factory Reset on the Phone and the Phone is now locked by the Xiaomi Account and unuseable. I have everything from the Seller, The Original Box, the original Bill (was originallly purchased in Czechslovakia i think) and the Papers came with the Phone.
Have someone an Idea what i can do? I live in Vienna/Austria and would be very thankful for any form of help to bring the Phone back to Life.
I contacted the Xiaomi Support, i tried some Guides in Youtube Videos with won't work with my Phone or are Fake, tried some Account Unlock Tools.... I have no Idea anymore, maybe someone here can help me out please?

To check if bootloader is unlocked, while booting up but before the boot animation, there should be an unlocked lock.
If you can't find that lock then you should go visit a support center or so
If it is unlocked tell me here and I'll help
Unforgently i think it isn't unlocked because i cannot see this unlocked lock at bootimg up. Any ideas?

It will lock bootloader again.
If you have unlocked bootloader and want to backup it, just backup the SECCFG partition.
And then, after the "firmware upgrade" just restore the SECCFG partition.

The Bootloader is already seems to be locked, so its no Problem if the SP Flash Tool will lock it again. But its a good Hint, Thank you anyway.
I just want to have a working Device for Daily use because i sold my other Phone and buyed this one as a used one because a friend of mine use the same Model and is very pleased with it. It has some useful functions huawei doesn't provide.
For now i have to use the reserve Phone from a friend of mine, a LG G3 D855 with 1GB of RAM and Android 5. So i will be very happy if my Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro working like it should work.
But for now i'm warned and can everybody strongly recommend to look that the seller of an mobile phone has removed ALL of his accounts from the phone befire you buy it.

Unhappy, neither Xiaomi or Google asks if you want to protect your device asking for password if anybody try to wipe data.
You are right, we need to confirm if everything is clear before to buy.

Hi why is everybody hard resetting their phones the old way, in Xiaomi devices the proper way is to do it thru the settings menu or simply logout the mi account of the device (but offcourse doing it this way will ask for a pasword).
In regards to your quetions you may have to options:
1. Ask the seller to remove the phone from his mi account in https://i.mi.com/
2. Jtag the phone or going for the prior mentioned software https://www.androidjungles.com/download-mi-account-unlock-tool/
Actually if you go into recovery (stock one), it has the option to contact support thru mipcsuite. Once I had the good " the system has been destroyed" screen and they fixed it for me w/o even contacting each other

Question Unable to unlock my phone.

Hello,
Please I use a redmi9t , I purchased and set up my Mi account my self , and I've been using it for sometime now.
Just recently I was about adding a new Google account to my phone when suddenly my phone got locked.
The first thing I saw displaying on my screen was "This device is locked", so I was directed to activate the device by inputting the password of my MI ACCOUNT, which is the same account associated with my phone ,which I did but the phone would not unlock...
Kept saying "couldn't unlock. Can't sign in " (and I was inputting the correct password),
I've used the same I.D and password to log in to my MI account on the Xiaomi website with another phone, and it was swift, I've checked if my account was blocked but it wasn't, I've even change my Mi password while on the website but my phone would still not accept the password, kept returning the same response...
I don't know what else to do.
I've been locked out of my device, and I can't even switch off the phone.
Please is there a way to get back Access ?
Try hard to remember incase not then its need to remove it from server
Its the correct password, as a matter of fact , I intentionally inputted a wrong password just to see if it would bring the same response, it didn't ; instead it brought back the response "couldn't verify mi account I.D. Invalid username or password"
as you see invaild you can try login mi tool
as see if its same try reset pw
Just don't add again MI Account in Developer Options. Because so, you'll have to wait Again.
