Is my note 9 genuine? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I'm coming into a such weird situation and I'll try to mention all the aspects.
I bought my note 9 a week ago from an online store (noon.com in UAE).
Seems like the phone is korean variant. Here's what is weird:
1- Model no. : SM-N960FD
2- model no. In the software (settings): SM-N960F/DS
3- phone's back at the very bottom (small text) reads: *N950F*
4- the phone was sealed and had samsung sticker which states it has never been opened before.
5- I came to realize that the spen has no bluetooth as there has been connectivity issue forever.
6- as i opened the hotspot, the device name is "DrKetanRom_5e10" which is a custom rom i believe.
7- I can't fine phone update section in settings.
8- The device is rooted when using root checker app.
9- phone status is custom.
10- SE for android status mentions DrKetan as well.
11- the camera lens has variable aperture which proves it's a note 9
12- knox status is 0x0!.
I am very confused! The phone seems totally new and is scratchless all around. I don't know if maybe Korean or chinese version phone comes with no android basic stuff as other shipped phones so Samsung re-installed the software or somethinhg?
If any body can help, that would be highly appreciated!!
Thanks.

If you go to bootloader mode you will see that it is n960n, not n960f.
I think these are SKTelecom phones from Korea.
they are original phones but have been refurbished or I don't know the exact term but they are repurposed to be sold like n960f - ds phones.
I also have a similar phone but I got all things intact no issues, I am actually running Dr. Ketan Q rom.
Only My Download mode shows some Korean stuff and I'm used to it from my note 4 days. I had an n910s
Just put your IMEI number on https://www.imei.info/ and it will show your phone details.
I also believe there are certain apps on play store that gives out device info.
All the best, since its already rooted just, go nuts with a badass custom ROM already.

Samsung Phone Information app from playstore has a refurbishment check. And yes it has been rooted with custom rom.

You are definitely correct, the model number in bootloader mode shows n960n! And download mode shows "download mode" in korean.
So can i just flash the stock rom of sm-n960f/ds and recieve the android Q whenever sasung releases it for the note 9? Or I'm already stuck now?
Also i coming from a note 3, so i have no ideas what are some popular roms for the note 9, also I don't want to loose spen functionality, so can you recommend a rom to install that is stable and saves battery?
Thanks alot for your help!

I would recommend that you install the N960N OS back onto it. As the N960N is a single SIM device. I don't know what will happen if you install a the dual SIM variant's OS onto it.

SM-N960F firmware is the same used for SM-N960F/DS. He should flash the Original firmware meant for the phone. SM-N960N.
Also, if his IMEI that pops up when dialing *#06# matches what is on the back of the phone, then he can flash the SM-N960F firmware.

Actually my phone is dual sim, and sm-n960n is a dual sim firmware.
IMEI is consistent in everywhere, with the box, with the back of the phone, when checking it on the internet.
I know that samsung will not support the note 9 after android Q upgrade, so shall i install a custom rom instead? If yes which one shall i install?
Is there a need - as of now- to install a custom rom, or the stock rom is fine (battery and performance wise)?
Or shall i go for stock android experience (project treble) to enjoy maximum performance?
What do you think?
Sorry for annoyance !

if you dont want it i might trade u for a brand new tmobile branded note 9. but u probably dont want it. (long shot)
im currently looking into what i can do with it if anyone knows feel free im also utilizing att but phone is tmo with device lock app untouched as of right now. . (needing leads)
jus wanted to get in on this thread so i can follow progress

It is probably a real phone but with the software modified.

Just flash the boot loader for n960n from Odin and the Twrp recovery then flash any rom that supports n960n ds or f rom. It works. I've tried ambasadi rom, the galaxy project and dr ketan. All worked for me. Just backup using TWRP and read all dev recommended steps before you flash anything. Or if you prefer stock there was a particular thread I think. All the best.

Galaxy Note 5 N920V to N920 something else...

Morning there,
I've been reading all I've been able to since Monday here and also from search results in Google, but I still haven't got a clear idea if this is possible or not.
I live in UK and I've bought a new Galaxy Note 5, which I received last Saturday, the phone works fine, but it has a N920V firmware on it from Verizon US, and I want to get Android 7 on it.
Verizon hasn't updated the firmware for this phone since January this year, so no Android 7 on their network, at least I can't find any firmware on SamMobile.
I've downloaded Android 7 for it, but firmware N920C (for Turkey it seems...), I've tried to flash it with Odin v3.12.7, the phone has the FRP lock as OFF and I've gone into the developer options and turned ON usb debugging and OEM unlock, but Odin fails to flash it, I can still boot up the phone and use it as normal after Odin fails no issues, I just cannot flash it.
I don't want to root the phone, and I don't want to install any custom recovery or custom ROM either, I just want to install Android 7 and if possible have a firmware with less bloatware, hence I downloaded the N920C. I downloaded the latest N920C firmware available out of the 6 there is available, so if anyone here knows that I can use any of the other 5 and make it work I'll be happy anyway...
As always, many thanks for yourhelp in advance
Just contact me via whatsapp, and ill guide you. Because ive been pass the same problem with u.
+6282299180088
Can you explain it here? I don't use whatsup, sorry.
I've flahsed the phone with the latest Verizon firmware from SamMobile, I tried to flash it again with the N920C but didnt work.
Now with the latest Verizon firmware it always throws me an error when I restart the phone saying that the "SIM is not from Verizon", but still works on my EE SIM, so not too worried about that.
Also, I see now a red screen with Verizon name when I restart it, something I didnt have before....
Anyone knows how to get rid of these 2 things? or better even, how to flash the N920C firmware to it?
Thanks

Samsung Newb here: Oreo to Pie 950F help

I would like some help updating a Note 8, SM-N950F. Before I attempt anything I want to better understand a few things.
1) I see people mentioning different boot loaders, version 5 etc... Do I care what version I have?
2) The device was purchased from Australia and has Vodafone AU software and it's currently being used in the Philippines
Can I change it to XSA to remove any Vodafone crap?
3) I see mention of multi CSC firmware, is this official Samsung firmware and what exactly is it.
At the moment neither Samsung Pay nor Google Pay will install on the device, perhaps because neither are supported in the Philippines, any thoughts on this?
This is what I am hoping to install
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note8/SM-N950F/XSA/download/N950FXXU5DSB2/260951/
After updating to PIE, Phone started to lag, swipe and navigation front and back does not respond in 1st few swipes. Batter train, Rear camera Seflfi option removed.
Boot your device into Recovery Mode and wipe the cache partition. That should resolve your software issues. With regards to installing the OS from your native country. Just check that the model number of the OS matches that of your Device. If they match then you should be fine.

upgrade firmware

I have Note 9 in UK on 3 network
I note from SAMMOBILE a newer version of the firmware I have installed is available
My device is not picking it up when checking for software update
Can I manually install the newer firmware ? if so, how and will I lose any device data /settings as a result ?
Thank you
Cheers
Mark
I would advise that you wait for the OTA update to be release for your device and install that. As installing the unlock stock Samsung OS could have adverse effects on your Branded device.
I purchased the NOTE 9 carrier unlocked. I have put a 3 (UK) SIM. in it.....(I have a SIM ONLY deal from 3).......it it safe to proceed with firmware update and if so how ?

Yes, it is safe. Just go into the Settings Menu and you should find a option there to update the OS of your device.
Does not find any update using settings / software update.....I see a newer version on the sammobile web site.......how, if it is safe to do so, do i install the newer version from the sammobile web site ?

Download firmware to PC
Use Winrar for example to unzip the firmware to its component files.
Download latest version of Odin (13.3.1
I think)
Put your phone in download mode connect to pc with usb cable (make sure you have Samsung USB drivers on your PC first)
Run Odin
Load files you unzipped BL, AP etc into Odin
When you get to CSC choose home CSC to retain your apps and data
Press start on Odin and wait five to ten minutes approximately.
Note 9 should reboot to new version when installation is completed (Odin will show passed)

Because most branded devices have their modems turned to operate on a specific frequency for that Cell Provider

absolutely incorrect. Every single note designated for the US market are all identical and all have the same radios and thereby are 100% capable of utilizing the same modems

Guess that must have been a recent change. As the last time I checked each cell provider had their device's modem configured to work on a different LTE frequency

thats software. Samsung apparently got fed up with the complaints stemming from having devices going out into the general public that are completely incompatible with service providers other than the ones they were originally intended for. Back in the S3 days the sprint one had the sim card embedded in the device behind the plastic cover of the internals. I have one of those S3's along with a VZW one that i un-hardbricked back in the days when a jig bringing the phone back to life after a "hardbrick" was mind blowing. Many hardbricks were caused by people trying to to make it able to be on other carriers since this time was also when the advent of MVNOs occurred. The history of the iterations of samsungs phones really spell it out. Many of us were surprised that it took them so long to do this. The S8 was the first Galaxy phone to have identical internals for all US models, the notes followed suit shortly thereafter

help with my samsung SM-N950U (Note 8)

Hello! good morning, I have a Samsung Note 8 SM-N950U, which I wanted to install a custom ROM to get out of android 9, the problem is that the OEM unlock option does not appear on my device, I tried to change the date and update but It has not worked, I tried to change the CSC of ATT that comes by default but when using SamFW it tells me that there are no other CSC for my device, even on the web page, there is no solution for these problems or a way to install a custom one ROM, if someone can give me an answer I would greatly appreciate it.
Have you considered buying a rooted version of this phone on ebay or asking any people that sell rooting services on ebay?

S20FE rooted super weird problem

Hi, im kinda desperate cause i really dont know what to do , here is my issue:
I bought a second hand s20fe i didnt know but its rooted and i want to remove it
The problem is that i tried booting it to download mode removing the root and trying to flash a original samsung stock firmware from odin, but it keep getting a error. Well i realized that the phone original model is SM G780G
And that the software that it had , was the SM G780F
So i downloaded a software for the G780F and apparently it worked with odin
But i want the original G780G software... what can i do?

I'm pretty sure your problem is:
you want to install a system with wrong binary.
Go into download mode and see what binary you have.
After you are sure which binary has downloaded the system you need and that's it.
if you have binary 3
upgrade to binary 3
If you can show a photo of what binary you have to observe.
Binario 1

I would like to tell you the full problem tho if you are so kind to give me a hand. I bought the s20fe second hand and it was rooted with a patched imei (the box and the software imei didnt match), i checked both imei and they are not blocked , so the phone isnt stolen. But here is the thing, the model in the box says 780G, and this software is 780F, the soft and the imei doesnt match. I tried rooting and unrooting, but now i dont have signal and i still have the same imei and software version, i would like to switch to the original imei cause im sure im able to use it , as well i would like to install the proper software version.

the equipment is not G780G.
1.G780G goes up to binary 4
2.G781B arrives
up to binary 5
3.G781U /U1 /V / N / W . go up to binary A(10)
4.G780F reaches binary A(10)
your equipment is a G780F and not a G780G. You can never load a system from another team, only from your variant.
Download an example system:
G780FXXUAFWB6
Currently there is the binary B(11).
luck.
unfortunately
it was advisable to leave it as it was when buying it.
if everything worked fine, there was no need to update.
just leave it with the system that was already installed.
since to change the imei, chimeratools, z3x is used. etc
They are paid applications and experience is required for it.
I used the z3x, that's why I'm telling you.
I dont understand, cause the model is in the back of the phone...

It didnt worked fine tho, i had a very low signal, now that i made a mess of course i would love to be back, but i dont know how to install a signal patch and i doubt that samsung would help me if im out of warranty, so i basically lost half of my saves on a phone that i can barely use now... what a luck

Personally, it is impossible to install an exynos system on a snapdragon.
It's like putting the engine from one car to another, just like that.
the cover says one thing, your phone another.
the caps are interchangeable.
Those can be put from an s20 fe exynos to a snapdragon.
check well.
personally you have a G780F.
try not to upload to binary B(11)
you will have to pay to solve the problem.
install software that it had initially, if the system was binary 9, it will be impossible.

the interchangeable cap make sense and also solve the imei trouble, i will choose to believe in your experience. But logically, then the email should be the one that is on the software right? and not in the cap? i already installed that version you told me, but how can i restore the signal? i just need to restore that and i will be able to sleep cause ive been awake almost 10 hours trying to figure out this mess
I really don't know if you can fix it.
I think your equipment was only rooted. The signal always worked.
I never touched the imei of your equipment.
It may even be that you are presenting a software error. once going to binary B. you will not be able to return to binary A.
if the problem does not recover without any update. It could be a problem with the internal antennas.
that they are disconnected.
I realized the problem, the case was switched indeed. And the original imei was changed because it was blocked. Since i update to the most recent binary and there is no chance to downgrade that, i wont be able to use sim cards anymore or at least until there is a new versión for patching the signal. I dont know which program the technicians use so i dont know if im ever going to recover the phone. An awful purchase and a even better movement from my part trying to update the android and removing the root. Im just disappointed, i hope this thread helps someone to not make the same mistakes...
At this point i dont even mind to pay for a signal patch, but there isnt a update for the system they use to do it. If someone knows anything about it, would be pretty helpful.
I understand what you're saying:
As a technician I understand.
Always before making changes, you have to know what we are getting into.
If you already knew that the imei was repaired and patched, for nothing in the world to update.
as advice, do not upgrade to binary B
stay in binary A.
The solution will come out, it always comes out for computers with an unlockable bootloader.
stay on february patch one ui 5.1 with binary A.
The rest are security updates.
Before listening to me, check that the system does not contain bugs.
in the best of cases, repair and sell, buy a G780G or G781B
luck.
