I bought an ebay special really cheap x4 and it turns out it is the Amazon version. To make matters even worse; the phone is hungup on a security update it keeps trying but it will not complete. Besides that, the phone is fine.
I would like to update it to the newest version of the Amazon firmware manually, flashing it, if that is possible somehow? I downloaded the firmware from the Motorola Android Team site, now I just need to know how to do it, is it possible to sideload to Pie? The current version it has is Oreo 8.1
Build number OPW28.3
Motorola Version
OPW28.46-21
My phone will download a security update via OTA, but is never able to finish updating it, and so never gets to OTA Pie.

Thank you that is very helpful! I have installed it to my PC and I am downloading the update, which is PPWS29.69-39-6-1
Is it possible to backup the entire phone including the ROM with this application before updating, in case of any problems? I hope it works alright after the update!
I do see this app has "rescue mode", maybe that is all I would need if it goes bad?
Thanks again! Really nice app to upgrade the phone "lenovo smart assistant " to flash the latest update to my Motorola X4!

Hi guys! I can't root my Galaxy S. I've downloaded many ''update.zip'' files, but. in the download mode, when I hit ''apply update''after some weird phrases appear it says ''failed to update''
I think it's because I have the GT-I9000T, and I've found files for the european version.
Any idea? Am I doing something wrong? I'm from.El Salvador,.please someone help me!
Sent from my GT-I9000T using XDA App
hmm. the easiest way for you to do it would be to root using Chainfire's method found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
Isnt z4 root more simple? It is a free app found on the market

z4 root never did worked for me. tried it just once though. speedmod's root via cwm or CF Root are the ones that worked for me without any miss whatsoever.
My situation
Hello guys.
I am from Costa Rica, I do have the same cel phone version you have.
I tried z4root to temporary root my android, then I proceed to install OCLF 2.0 to remove the lag, but after I restarted the android it didn't come back again.
I was able to turn it on but it were stuck after the samsung introduction video.
Just a black screen and no way to do anything.
I tried to press UP, HOME and POWER to get into the recovery mode but it didn't work, so I almost had a brick.
Lookin over the internet I found a small .bat file that I ran with the android connected using the usb cable and I was able to run the factory reset.
Finally I think I got my cel to normal, but I dont know if there are still a few "orphan files" because of the z4root and oclf 2.0.
I am sharing this experience with you just to let know what may happen with our model, I think most of the apps are made for Europe and North America, we may have a small differences on our phones because not everything is compatible.
Bueno, creo que no se puede hacer root a nuestros telefonos por ser de agencia, yo lo tengo con Claro y al parecer no se podra, y vos, que compañía tenés??
Hello, actually I got it in a store, the company in Costa Rica for telephones and communication is called ICE, but they haven't approved the cel phone to work here yet so I did configure it myself.
I think actually my phone comes from UK since all the software was showing UKs config.
Saludos

Can anyone who updated try to find the proper links to download the ota manually?
If anyone can follow these steps after they updated, it could help those of us outside the US greatly!
---clearer directions from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68425868&postcount=5)
The first boot after you take the OTA, dial *#8736364#. This brings up the firmware update menu. Click on 'Result'. There, you will see a screen that looks like the one attached.
Here is how things worked for G900A:
I went to the server URL in the attached image using stock Samsung browser. This downloaded a file named desc and then I got a prompt to download the OTA. I clicked OK and the download started and failed.
However, the failed download did create a file named desc.bin on my phone. I clicked on that file and to my surprise, I got a pop up menu that had a download option. I selected download and then finally the full 911mb file named desc.bin downloaded on my phone.
I renamed it, changed the extension to zip and uploaded it!

The AT&T site says the baseband must be PB1, PB3, or PB6. My device shows PB5. I'm on 5.1.1 (LMY47X) with the July 1 security updates. How do I get a different baseband? I assume I would flash with Odin, but do these exist outside of a full update package?
I'd love to get a flashable zip rather than relying on OTA. Don't mind doing a data wipe to get it.
ENGLISH: i installed stock 5.1 brazil in my Moto X XT1058, after starting are a new update (not the camera) said it was of stagefright and i clicked install, when it was installing my phone shutdown and no start more .
My PC does not recognize in any way my Moto X, does not sound, and no recharges the list in "device administrator" .
The only thing you notice is that after leaving for a while loading my Moto X was heated slightly
Name of stock rom zip: XT1058_GHOST_RETBR_5.1_LPA23.12-15_cid12_CFC.xml.zip
Sorry for my bad english..
Hi, you have indicated that your device does not show up whatsoever in device administrator. While I can understand that this is worrying, you probably just need to set up the QHUSB drivers. It does not sound like you messed up as bad as I did. As long as you haven't flashed a bootloader or partition table that is incompatible you should be safe to do perform a blank flash then reflash your device with the stock firmware.
This should at least get you back into your bootloader so that you can flash your stock firmware.
This might be a bit simpler to follow, but it is the less effective method (some people do still report success with it).
This will have your stock firmware. Do try to flash the right version. RSDLite can simplify the matter, but the commands are pretty universally used in fastboot.
Good luck!
Hello, I was seeing that this time, the Chinese version and the global version are the same. It will be easier if I buy it in China to install the global version with all languages later? Even now it may be easier to change the rom of the oppo find x2 pro which is the one I currently have.

Another user in the x3 forum had a Chinese version and it apparently was not the same.
https://www.coloros.com/en/rom ..if only I had an X2pro, not a X3pro with ChinaROM. My AliExpress [HongKong] purchased X3pro has English, but the SYSTEM apps, App Store not GooglePlay [instead one all Chinese], & back-up are not Google-1 with GoogleDrive [ instead HeyTap], & ChinaROM Native assistant is BREENO: Chinese Language only, Further SMSs and data are often labeled as international even as my use is only USA to USA, with USA SIM. [LOL, my X3pro actually suggested I use data SIM-less to avoid charges. & and while I can change the SMS app to Textra every incoming text switches it back to ChinaROM default]
I await the website to have X3pro ROMs, but I may still be blocked from applying them, & the actual hardware version can differ. I once made the error of using a ROM for a same name device, when different markets/countries had slightly different hardware.. Flashed naively. Did not function but was able to restore.
I have sent email [ https://support.oppo.com/en/email-us/ failed to send ] to [email protected]
Even that failed to arrive..

Fears confirmed by their email reply. Take care not to order X3pro with ChinaROM unless yo like it that way!
"Unfortunately, because the device was manufactured for the Chinese market, It is different from the devices that are manufactured for the European market and the U.S.A. as here there are other laws and other software features that needs to be used. As the phone came from the manufacturer to comply with the Chinese market, the phone cannot be changed or modified to work as an European phone or an American one in this case."
p1gnone said:

That would have been my guess, but I'm less sure given the OPPO-UK official support reply. They may not really know, but claim its hardware too, not just the software. "Cannot be changed or modified " may simply mean software blocked.
It could be they have some small tweaks in the hardware that makes the rom incompatible.
You would need an experienced person to help with that.

Yes, Play store works, but default locked to a Chinese store. System apps all Chinese, cannot turn them off, e.g.News , [inferior] Messaging App keeps taking over from a default selection citing Security [Textra] , Chrome browsing triggers occasional warnings [claims of international data when actually US<->US, launcher selection locked, Backup locked out from Google-1, only using a Chinese one. Minor but annoying: temperature locked to Celsius when I 'live' in Fahrenheit.
I hope you can advise work-arounds.
