Dual SIM Features - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

My old Oneplus 3 had a feature to set a ringtone based on the SIM card being called. This doesn't seem to be present in the MiA2 stock rom. I'd also like to be able to turn off sim 2 at weekends (sim 1 is personal, sim 2 work) but the only way I can see to do this is to go into aim settings to manually turn it off/on. Is anyone aware of a working app for the Mi A2 that can do this? Thanks.

Dual SIM

Hi, I am shortly going to have an mi5. One of the reasons I bought the phone was to have one phone and 2 SIMs thus doing away with the need to have two phones (personal and private) with me. But I am totally new to the whole dual sim thing. Can anyone explain how it works on the mi5?

All in all,
you get to choose if you want to use data from SIM 1 or SIM 2.
When u get att call it says Incomming call on <Call provider 1> or <Call provider 2>.
The same when you wanna call or text someone, either you tap SIM 1 or SIM 2. All of this could be configured in the settings menu.
Cool, thanks.

Dual sim Note 8 and assigning contacts to specific SIM card.

Just got my dual sim Note 8 a few days ago. I can't see any way to assign specific contacts to a specific SIM card.
I just came from an LG V20 and there I could specify for a contact that I wanted to use a certain SIM card. So while SIM 1 (my phone) was the default, I could set that all my work related numbers dial automatically with my second, work SIM. It was in a selection of the contacts called Cost Saving or something similar.
I don't see anything like this in the note. So if I right swipe on a work contact, it will call with SIM 1. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks..

This is what I'm looking for myself and it seems incredible such a feature is missing, even more critical when you call mainly via Google assistant.
Thank you.

Note 8 N950F - Convert to dual sim?

Hello,
Am new user of note 8 N950F.
At my last phone, i was using 2 sim cards. Now i see that N950F support only 1 sim card and 1 memory card
Is there any way that i can use 2 sim cards in n950f?
Thank You!
I don't think that is possible for the N950F. As it is designed to as a single SIM device.
Sorry!
Please delete post!
Strange how there's 2 sim toolkits running still.
I'm ok with pie but oreo starting to sound better.
Call recording and dual sim would be nice...

Depending on where your device originates from you may stil have call recording after you hae installed Pie onto your device. I installed Pie onto my N950N and I still have Call Recording on it.
if you device comes with the hybrid simcard tray, you can either use dual sim & no SD Card, or 1 sim and 1 SD Card.
Back on oreo you can buy those adapters to use 2 simcards and 1 SD card simultaneously but on Pie (One UI) samsung decided to block it.. so you can either use Dual Sim & No Sd Card or 1 sim & 1 SD Card.
I hated this.. so i went out to installed a pre-rooted custom rom as close to stock i can find, which the ROM maker edited it to accept the dual sim & 1 sdcard mod. I lost my knox and samsung pay, bt got samsung pay to work on my samsung gear sport instead. dont misunderstand me, spay still doesnt work on the phone but can work on gear sport if you hide the spay related packages via magisk hide.
Secure folders dont work anymore unfortunately. it was my favourite to "hide" apps and a seperate and secure photo gallery..
as for call recording, google decided to kill off 3rd party call recording (yes, google not samsung did it).. BUT since android has native call recording, and is activated via CSC, and having a rom that is pre-rooted, i went ahead and activated call recording.. and enabled camera shutter sound option (to enable the option to switch off camera shutter sound in camera app)
so, if you do not mind loosing knox and knox related features, go get yourself a custom rom. (i personally went for Dr Ketan's ROM)
Thank you!
This sound good because andorid version on my phone is 8.0.0 and smasung experience version is 9.0

But this isn't really dual sim.. U can only use 1sim at a time. Unlike real dual sim with active standby for both sims

You are right!
Don't think you can truly convert a single sim phone (SM-N950F) into a true dual sim phone (SM-N950F/DS).
Because I think you'll need 2 IMEI's numbers while the SM-N950F has only one IMEI number. So that is probably the only choice is to switch between the sims.
I deleted my first post because that was more for the dual sim phone and not for the single sim phone. Sorry for the confusion on that!
Hopefully someone has figured something out for the single sim phone to use 2 sims at once (1 active and 1 in standby mode)!
Wish the OP luck on figuring this out!
Ohhh, on sime per time. Is same as single sim
I will continue use my single sim note 8
yes, this isn't a dual sim this way. In my opinion is dual sim constantly have 2 number available.
Like the SM-N950FD

BUG?! - Second SIM enable itself!

So, im with MIUI 10 v10.2.30 and rooted with Magisk 20...
I have 2 SIM's, one is always ON in slot 1, another is OFF in slot 2 and i enable it once in a week, but recently and random the second SIM are enabling by itself and i didnt do nothing to have it enabled. Just when i see the notification bar i see the 2nd card enabled by some "random" BUG!
Anyone have the same issue? if yes, what can fix this?! maybe i will take out the 2nd card out but i need it for some bank actions and to change the number from my bank i need to call to them and etc etc...well, i go easy way wich is have the card only for that and thats why they are always almost everytime OFF.

Transferring my old phone to Pixel 5 with esim?

I got my Pixel 5, but I don't have esim yet. And I do not want to use physical sim-card anymore. My old phone is Google Pixel 2XL.
I have been thinking how to transfer my old phone to my Pixel 5.
Here is what I thought
1. Make sure old phone is backup (via system settings, backup)
2. Turn off old phone, and take out nano sim card
3. Insert the nano sim card on the Pixel 5 (for temporary while waiting esim)
4. Turn on Pixel 5 and connect to Wifi
5. Restore from the account I use to backup on my old phone
6. Continue setup
I think that would transfer my old phone to Pixel 5.
Once I received my esim, how do I change my nano sim card to esim?
- Turn off Pixel 5, take out nano sim card
- Turn on Pixel 5, configure esim (settings, mobile network, etc.)
Would that work?
And about Google account backup restore, will that also restore all my phone call history? SMS? MMS?
Thanks.
you'll have to contact your provider to arrange them to transfer you from physical sim to esim, generally done with a QR code and pin (at least that's how we do it in Australia).
I done mine through Vodafone Account online, I selected replace sim > esim > they sent an sms to confirm it was me > they then sent a pin by sms > then I got an email with QR code.
After that I went into Settings > Network and Internet > hit the + next to Mobile Network and selected Download a SIM > scanned the QR code and entered the pin, then a few seconds later it was setup and working great. Took out my physical sim and binned it as its now useless.

I did pretty much the same except with a work sim (o2). SAcanned the QR code and notified my work phone people that i wanted it transferring, was on the esim within an hour.
Have my personal number as the physical sim in the phone too. love having not to carry two phones around anymore
Thanks all! Yes, I called my provider and they sent me the esim package with activation code via post, not yet received. But I want to setup my phone now
I have never done this before, coming from Pixel 2XL.
Some companies may charge you for an eSIM, this varies among different countries and different companies. The QR code is for one time use, so if you change your phone, or something happens that you are forced to factory reset your phone, you will need to ask them to send you another one. The second eSIM may carry a cost to you even if the first one is free, and then there is the trouble of not having a SIM while you are waiting for the replacement. I would rather use a physical SIM for the primary carrier that I use in my own country, and use the eSIM for traveling.
(There's an option to keep the eSIM when you factory reset, but who knows what may happen)
In some advanced countries you will easily get the eSIM for free and you can get the eSIM QR from your home probably in a couple of minutes via email or some portal.
In more precarious or corrupt places you will have (like me in Spain with Movistar carrier) to pay 14.90€ to get a piece of cardboard with the disposable QR code (and you need to go to a store to get it) and spend at least 20 minutes to do the entire process until you finally activated the eSIM in the new Pixel
I just did this today. Second time i did this process.
I do this because I like to have work SIM + personal eSIM in one device.

I'm still waiting for Three (UK) to fully roll out their eSIM program. At the moment you can only get them from select stores but they're all Northern stores that I can't physically get to.
FYI, your Pixel 5 will only work in 4G mode when using 2 SIM cards.
Is there any advantage to an esim apart from not having to have a physical card in the phone?

Only if you have two providers. Some don't have eSim technology and you are stuck with a physical sim. And if your second provider is the same you are out of luck. Other than that I don't think there is much difference.
