Any System update Constant Fail - Fastboot Screen - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I'll explain this as clearly and simply as possible and hopefully someone can help :fingers-crossed:
My oem 3T ran out of power, plugged into dash charger and no led, power button held down for 10secs and entered fastboot, got to some options by holding power and volume down, but none of the recovery, wiping cache, delete everything options worked (would always go back to fastboot)
I ended up following the unbrick tutorial on here (link - https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/unbrick-unbrick-tutorial-oneplus-3t-t3515306)
and got it back to factory state, HOWEVER, I cannot update the OS without it going into fastboot, if I THEN turn off and turn back on holding volume down it doesn't take me back to all the options I had (wiping cache, reset system settings ect) but shows me the android logo/loading screen with something like this in yellow text:
>>>> changing to aging
then I'm back to the original state before I tried to update the OS.
Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated! :highfive:

I think I've discovered the issue to my own problem! - my volume button is stuck on up also!!
didn't realise this with the power button held makes the phone enter fastboot mode is any case - Can't believe there was never a problem with it in the first place and I didn't need to delete absolutely everything off the phone!!!!

Help with TWRP Recovery Issue

Hopefully you all don't sigh or roll your eyes at my questions, I came from iOS 2 weeks ago and the Android learning curve is pretty damn steep!
Many guides I read says to enter recovery mode by turning the phone off, then holding volume down and power buttons until the screen flashes and you should enter right into recovery, especially guides to flash a rom. I installed TWRP last week and the way I enter it is hit restart with phone powered on and as the phone begins to restart hold volume down only, then I enter it.
When I hold power and volume down when the phone is shut off, I get the HTC boot image as the phone is rebooting and then a message saying something along the lines of the phone will reboot and it counts down 3,2,1 then the phone reboots a second time and not into recovery. Plus my wallpaper gets removed. I rebooted but the wallpaper was still removed.
Two questions; Is this some sort of faulty installation of my recovery? Which way should I boot into recovery when about to wipe and flash a rom? Thanks a million!
twrp quicker reboot...

way i do it is i unlock the screen hold power down to get the power options screen then i select reboot i wait for the screen to go blank then i hold the power and volume down it will load into bootloader then i just hit whatever boot loader has the recovery on it (twrp 2.5... had a problem wouldnt do system boot just take me back to recovery so i had to do to bootloader then restart from there) then you will hit recovery i would do a factory wipe but dont have it delete anything else just do a normal factory wipe and maybe delete cache and your problem should be fixed unless there is an issue with your rom you are using then if it bugs you that much find a different one.
another not when the system reboots i think you can just hit volume down dont have to hold power also but im so aggrivated with my current issue i just hold power also to make sure it goes thew.

*Update*
Ok so after trying again to enter bootloader from power off holding volume down and power button, the same thing happened where I got the 3 second countdown but I continued to hold the buttons and I correctly entered into bootloader. So my question then stands, when flashing a new rom does it matter which method I use? (Reboot, volume down or Power on, volume down/power)
Thanks

[Q] Bricked - cannot enter in fastboot, recovery or normal boot

Hello guys,
Today i wanted to go back on stock due to bulletproof kernel... the phone kept screen-unlocking while in the pocket, call random persons and fast battery draining...
so i installed clockwork recovery 6.0.4.8-m7, did a dalvik wipe, and then a data and cache wipe. while wiping the cache, the phone got stuck with these on screen:
Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
Can't open /cache/recovery/log
Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Formating /cache...
and here it got stuck.
i restarted by holding the power button for more than 10-15 seconds, but after "htc powerd by android" screen phone goes off.
i restarted into bootloader, but also here when i want to choose and option like fastboot or recovery and hit the power button it will stuck, with the option highlighted. volume up or down won't work after that, only thing i can do is restart into bootloader again. so i can't enter in fastboot or recovery or any option from bootloader.

is there any way to un-brick the phone?
Do you have active cmdline overflow or something like that on the screen ?
no, i don't. the only thing i can do into bootloader is volume up or down, but in the moment i push power button to choose any option it will stuck.
for sideload the phone need to be in fastboot or recovery, if i'm not wrong... well it cannot enter any...
well first of all, try a system reset, hold volume down and power button together, keep holding them, you will see the lights on the bottom flash 10-15 times, when they stop blinking, let go of the power button, but continue to hold volume down, it will boot back to bootloader, see if that works, do not enter recovery, just see if you can select fastboot etc.
if i turn the phone off, and the try the hard reset, the phone goes imediatlly into bootloader, but the lights on the bottom won't flash at all, just the bootloader screen goes off and then on repeatedly...like 5 seconds is on then goes off and then in 2 seconds on again, then off after 5 sec..etc then if i choose fastboot - stuck
no they wont flash, do what I said above but whilst the phone is on the bootloader screen, don't switch the phone off first.
nothing, i did how you said, kept the power button and volume down pressed, while in bootloader, the bootloader screen is going off after 5-10 seconds, and then on... so i let that happend for more than 10 times, and then when i want to enter in fastboot, i press power button while fastboot is highlithed and from there it's stuck, volume down or up won't work, only power to restart into bootloader.
L.E. - i'm interested only if this phone can be recovered somehow, and so, you guys can point me in the right directions... i have some experience with flashing , i have bricked few times, and recovered, it's just it's the 1st time i cannot enter in fastboot.
L.L.E - is it possible that the bootloader chip is fried up?

In all honesty, I don't know whats wrong, but it wont be a damaged chip, if that was the case your phone wouldn't come on at all, sounds to me like one of your partitions / blocks maybe corrupt, that's why I asked if you had active cmdline overflow earlier, unfortunately, without fastboot theres not much you can do about anything.
you say when you select fastboot and press power, the volume buttons don't work, have you just tried leaving it like that for a while to see if it does finally get to fastboot mode, like a horrible old computer would become unresponsive whilst it was busy working on something else.

Yes, i've tried, nothing... after 5 min... i will leave it more. but.. in this case, means the phone is gone, irretrievable?
my only (may sound stupid) hope is that after it will run off, without battery, i'll manage to enter at least in fastboot. i've read on some forum, a user, after constat bootlooping (whitout possibility to enter bootleader),managed to enter in bootloader after battery full draining.
L.E. the thing with the battery drained didn't worked, still stuck in bootloader, fastboot or recovery inaccessible.question... will i be able to do something from linux, somehow? or if i'll get the phone to a service, will they be able to do something which i can't?

Dead phone after flashing TrinityVengance 1.3/1.4

Hi
I've flashed (including kernel) my phone (C6903) TrinityVengeanceRaptorXHD_1.3-XperiaZ1 and TrinityVengeanceRaptorXHD-LB_UB-Patch-V1.4 taken from here. Unfortunately after it was done my phone was also done.
There is no reaction on 3 buttons pressed at the same time and i cant get into flashmode or fastboot mode. Holding power button makes a single vibration that is being repeated as long as the PB is being hold.
Can anyone help me bringing it back to life? Can it be done not leaving the room or do i need some special tools or send it to guys that has these?
Regards
Wizzy
Hi
I've managed to rescue it. I'm not sure how i did that os i will put here steps that i've taken. Firstly i could not enter fastboot or flashmode by PButton + Vol UP or Vol Down button. I've opened flash tool and connected phone while holding power down button but after unpacking flash image it prompted to unplug the device and plug it again with volume down button being hold but nothing was happening.
So here are steps:
1. I've connected it to the AC and tired holding different combination of buttons ( to see if the led is working ). VIsualy no response has been noticed.
2. While flash tool was still hanged on prompted dialog i've connected the phone to the PC while holding volume down button.
3. It started flashing process.
Thansk & Regards

Bricked but recognized in fastboot and recovery

Hello, it's my first question on XDA but I really like this community. So for my problem : after bug in lineage os I wanted returned on the official ROM but after flashing (with my flash tool) the phone doesn't want turn on, the screen stay black no vibrate no LED. On my computer the phone was sometime detected as a MTP devices. So i turn the phone on the fastboot to flash but went he is on fastboot the screen doesn't wake up but on the computer the phone is on fastboot and I can flash. After I tested the recovery so I flash TWRP and boot on this but the screen doesn't wake up but with ADB tool I see my phone and I can move in the phone with "adb shell". I tested all the thing I know to unbrick my phone so I answer you. I really thank you if you can help me.
PS: I don't speak very well English so I really sorry for all the mistake
Absolutely identical situation here, but for me the phone just died by itself at night. Reflashing stuff with EDL / Fastboot does not help at all.
With some combination of boot AND recovery it is visible as adb + mtp device, with some does not.
Should be noted that fastboot boot recovery.img does not boot recovery and loops, but holding up button while inserting usb cable does.

@skydev
Usually you should try removing and reinserting the battery, but the Mi5's battery is not removable, as you know.
So what you wanna do is to force this behaviour by pressing the power + vol up + vol down buttons all together for about 1 minute (be serious about this - also try like 2 minutes if it doesn't work quicker!).
You'll notice that it has been working by seeing the Mi logo.
Solved the black screen of death error for me once.
How about you?
@Phil_Smith, thanks for the advice, well, it seems that the problem we have is a little different.
I have that behaviour (black screen + adb + mtp) sometimes only when trying to boot recovery, but when trying normal boot i get bootloader bootloop with "Mi logo unlocked".
I think i should make a thread for my own problem.
P.S. I think the power supervisor should shutdown (restart) phone if power button is being held for 10 seconds, except if in EDL mode!
I can also recommend doing poweroff from adb shell and removing USB cable immediately afterwards - it should power off the phone.
@Phil_Smith y really thanks you for your answer but that don't running on my phone... I think it's the motherboard who is broken because I have no vibrate no led and no screen. I give up for this phone... Thank you and @skydev I hope you find a solution

Mi A2 won't do anything other than fastboot

Hi there.
I've had a Mi A2 for a few month (January) and really like it. It's been great up til yesterday, when I tried to get it out my pocket and was greeted with a recovery-mode looking menu, telling me it couldn't boot and that files might be corrupt, etc. I had the option to either factory reset or try to reboot (shown with Try Again). I kept trying the Try Again option, and it eventually politely told me to f*ck off, and decided to just boot to the Android One splash screen. I'm able to get into Fastboot, but when I open cmd on my PC and try to use Fastboot, it'll say permission denied for most things other than a reboot, and ADB just won't recognise the phone - USB Debugging was never enabled. I've tried the volume up and power button, and it just reboots the phone again and again.
Help!
Thanks in advance.
- Taylor
Mi A2 start you off with the plan Jane stock Android recovery.
Now you need to press and hold both the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time
You’ll feel a vibrate when you first press these two buttons, but keep holding them
You can let go of the Power button once you see the Android One logo
However, you need to keep holding the Volume Up button
After the Android One logo screen, you will be taken to the stock Android Recovery splash screen
Once you see this little green Android then you can let go of the Volume Up button
This is only a splash screen though and we need to bypass it with a combination of buttons
You won’t see this screen if you have a custom recovery like TWRP installed
At this splash screen press the Power button and then press the Volume Up button immediately afterward
This step can be tricky and sometimes it just boils down to luck.
it will take you just 10 tries until U got passed it... PP (kidding)
After you have bypassed the stock Android Recovery then you’ll be taken directly to the menu screen.
Good Luck .
