5.0 was something I really looked forward to...once I got around to flashing it however, man it's taking a huge decrease in the performance department compared to 4.4.4. Here are some of the things I noticed:
1. Laggy UI overall - opening apps, loading, caching is all much slower now - not the animations, just the time lag before the animation/after animation.
2. Bad battery life - is it me or has the battery really taken a hit? Today I got out of the house at 8AM and by 3PM I get the 15% battery saver notification. With about 2.5 hrs of SOT. Before I used to get at least 3+.
3. Unnecessary animations - I do not understand the whole "logical part" of L's animations. They claim apps now "open from somewhere". All I'm seeing is that they slide up now. IMO, it was more logical before, the app used to extend diagonally FROM its icon itself. On top of that, the animations are more laggy too.
4. Colours/Icons - what is with the colour choices of teal, etc. in the backgrounds and all over the UI? Starting to look like Touchwiz. And, the triangle/square/circle are totally random choices of shapes...the arrow, home, etc. were more logical.
5. Google Apps - Google apps are ever-more confusing to use now with a plethora of headings under the swipe menus (i.e. Gmail, Inbox, Photos, etc.). More importantly, the font is now super small...the nice big font in KitKat was way nicer and had easy-to-understand menus. Chrome is way worse - tabs have become "apps" and the only way to switch between them is to access recent apps. No more new tab button, no more swipe between tabs, and it crashes like no tomorrow. Calendar is so-so..it's harder to delete events now.
Overall KitKat was way smoother, cleaner UI, very accessible, but only lacked a couple key features. Looks like Project Butter is gone. An update is fast needed.
The Good:
Dialer and Messenger apps are far better than the stock on KitKat (UI/usability-wise). I really like lock-screen notifications.
(1) Wat? No lag here. (stock, no root)
Won't comment about (2) and above (yet).

Please tell us your method of installing 5.0?
Sent from my Android 5.0 Nexus 5
1. Not laggy for me too. It works smooth. Did a clean install.
2. Battery life seems to be fine.. Did not see any improvements yet..but definitely not a deterioration..
3. This may be a personal preference. I actually like the animations.
4. Again personal preference. I love the color scheme of lollipop. Bright colors and white just works.
5. I agree there is a confusion with Email app redirecting to gmail and Inbox which manages Gmail..haha what a mess. But I can get used to it. Agnostic about the font size change. I hated the chrome tabs which showed up in multi tasking, but I just turned the feature off. Now I have all the swipe to switch tabs, swipe down to see tabs etc.
Even though I like Lollipop overall, I agree with several of your points:
Battery life is much worse than the first DP released months ago. That was amazing. Now, I still have a better battery life while actually using the phone, compared to KitKat, but the standby power consumption is worrying: I get a 5% drop by just leaving my phone in airplane mode for one night, which would barely take 1% on android 4.4...
The UI doesn't look laggy at all to me, but I must admit that some animations are pointless; others are pleasant though.
I like the UI of some of the new Gapps instead: gmail is really well made, especially in the tablet version, calendar is ok and the changes in the other ones (maps, keep, newsstand) didn't affect usability.
At first I didn't like chrome either, but after you get used to the new way to use it, it's not that bad. Anyway, you can disable the new tab view and revert to the classical UI whenever you want
Sent from my Nexus 5
Lags what?? Come on. Mine is running butter smooth like never before. Much much fluid and consistent than Kitkat 4.4.4. And stop criticizing UI based on colors and all. These are subjective elements and opinions always vary greatly from person to person. Most of the people are liking this new UI. It does have a character and feel of liveliness unlike any previous android UI.
PS: And for once in a lifetime, do checkout settings under Chrome.
Odd
Got no lag issues
Battery is better for me
3 ~ 5 are taste choices not issues, i love the new ui and animation
Maybe its time to see if any oem offer better looks to your taste

People if you read all his comments, all items are so subjective. Colors can look ugly to you but not to everyone. Battery would be because of how you use it. Gapps, are made not your sake and fonts that are small for your is enough for someone. Again, post issues that are show stopper.
@OP: Damn right they have. The OTA updates have stopped as well. I think the rest of us (99%) should be receiving Android 5.0.1 or something next month. Till then... no updates.
In chrome you can change the tab style under settings
I sideloaded the OTA and my phone was laggy and had a few force closes so I flashed the factory image and it's fine. Fast, smooth and works.
This is the price you pay for being an early adopter. It has happened before on nexus devices in the past. It's going to take them at least one or even two more updates to polish it.
Concerning chrome tabs, go to settings in chrome and turn off "merge tabs and apps".
You can turn off system animations from developer options in settings, or make them a bit faster by setting the value to .5x
As for unnecessary apps, you can disable the apps you don't want to see, or if you're rooted, you can delete them for good.
I want to say that after week od testing Lollipop (AOSP version with Hybrid Kernel) I went back to Omni ROM based on KitKat. Why? Because for me Lollipop is not as smooth as KitKat. I mean especially animations that are often laggy. Check out for example Play Store. Search any app with huge description, click "More informations" and then click "x" button to close whole description. For me this animation was very laggy. It's only example but I just felt worse smoothness and responsive in compare to KitKat. Even recent apps panel opens slower than KitKats one. It should not supposed to be so. I feel on KitKat 100% comfortable in daily use, not on Lollipop. I like new look and features but KitKat is faster.
And I will not change my mind, I'm not a noob and I can see the difference. I will wait month or two for custom ROMs and I will check out Lollipop again.

I've been on the nexus line for 4 generations, but no one can answer your question with 100% certainty. It might take a x.x.1 or even x.x.2 update to iron things out.
I would say this transition is even bigger than gingerbread 2.3 -> 4.0 ICS was.
Choppy animations, FC's and inconsistencies in apps are normal at this stage. Apps will update in time. And i mean all apps in general, not just GApps.
1. No lag here.
2. Getting 4 hours + SoT, even on Developer Preview I was getting nearly 5.
3. Everything looks better in slow-mo.
4. Touchwiz is so much more random. Colors everywhere, heavy theming, where as Google has a constant flow. Maybe they just got tired if everything being black(might've been nice in the N6)
5. I always hated the Photos thing, but getting use to it quickly. I can see where Google is trying to go.
The font is beautiful to me. I love it.
Chrome, you can change it from recent apps back to normal in Chrome settings(I don't know if you read the instructions for that)
Calendar looks beautiful, but haven't used it yet.
Now. Remember that Lollipop was JUST released, therefore only the start of things to come. KitKat had many improvements done to it to become what it was.

Ohno, I meant the animations. You see it more in slow-mo. I'm not saying put your phone animations like 2x's slower.
In an Android Police post, they made GIFS of the animations. To the eye it looks like a slide, but in thebGIFS it was beautiful.
No lag here.
Battery is improved in my case ( on avg-extreme usage).
But apps takes longer time to install. But I know its due to the ART , but performance wise its a clear winner.
No force closes even on extreme multitasking.
My device is rooted just to install ViperFx everything else is completely stock.

Yes, I noticed this since first preview came out. I thought it would be fixed in final factory image, but it didn't.
I installed Lollipop with full wipe option (-w) and still laggy everywhere(Drawer, multi-tasking, even opening setting).
Third party apps which have services running in background are only Facebook Messenger and Yahoo!Weather, tried removing them but no help.
I am so jealous of you guys who didn't encounter this issue :crying:
BTW, I also noticed taking some HDR+ shots makes system holding more memory (and never release them).
Like the Subject title reads, can we start a list of all the known errors discovered in the Android Pie update, for the Mate 10 series phones?
:highfive:This will be a great thread to see if it is worth upgrading to Pie, for us still stuck on Oreo.
I have found 2 issues so far
1. recents doesn't play well with 3rd party launchers(workaround is to disable emui launcher trough adb)
2. Navbar has delay for 1 sec after adapting to colour of opened apps when using 3rd party launcher
Had some few glitches like gps icon stayed turned on while nothing was using gps and gpu turbo floating icon stayed on after exiting game.

Apparantly the new Gallery App is also not that great:
"The new photo gallery is a crap ,, whats the point of creating a new allbum called all photos ??
I miss the old one ,,,
And the worst thing is the new signal bars on the left with notifications !! What the heck is huawei thinking ?? We don't have a notch ,, this new emui is bs update"
As mentioned, Nova also buggy:
"So far, nova launcher is buggy, especially animations, and the previously working google cam port stopped working"
&
"Nova working fine here with the exception of recents and gestures. "
And also uses more RAM than on EMUI 8 / Oreo:
"EMUI 9 is soooo ram hungry. Dropping below a gig here from light use and everything is refreshing. "
Well dont know about ram. Its same for me as before
atm while doing nothing its sitting at 3gb just like in oreo.
Only problem I have noticed is that's sometimes apps just went to recent by itself... usually when I'm typing - chatting. But it's overall fast to go back , sometimes it's annoying. For me ram management is ok, just like in oreo. Few graphic glitches here and there.

Maybe that's the reason, I hope that they will fix it soon :fingers-crossed:
I think in oreo there was like 1 second delay when pressing on screen and then trying to press navbar. it woudnt allow you to do that right away.
I'm getting the strong impression the Pie update, for the Mate 10 series, needs some more fine tuning. Maybe, with some updates it'll get better.
Let's get those bugs listed guys! :highfive:
Don't see a difference with the "super macro" mode in new camera software
MATE 10. The recent apps screen is ****, if you hit the one app that's halfway hidden on the side you just get dumped back to where you were without opening that app.
The camera app in my mate 10 eats up literally 600MB of RAM wtf? Also RAM usage in general is higher almost than EMUI 8 on the Mate 10, where I had 2.2GB free most of the timein 8.0, now the usual is 1.8GB, so that's 400MB more of RAM used for EMUI 9.

Yup, I also had this problem - it does bug me, typing a message and kept clicking home. I changed the nav bar to be hidden and use gestures now (swipe up for home, swipe left / right for back, swipe up and hold for task manager). This works for me!
Couple of other things I've noticed - takes a while to archive a gmail email in the notifications - there's a delay which wasn't there before.
Ran a AnTuTu benchmark - previously it was around 200,000 - its now reporting about 160,000 but apart from the gmail delay (above) the phone still feels snappy! I then saw the performance setting (under battery) and switched this on to re-benchmark - got around 210,000 this time.
I've switched performance mode back off for now.

It should have been obvious I guess! When I switch the performance mode on clearing these notifications is much quicker - this is the only thing I have really noticed in terms of speed with / without performance mode in the first couple of days.

Well, I didn't see a thread here related to Beta-1 being available and unless everyone on XDA also reads the OnePlus community forums, it's probable there are people out there who don't know Beta-1 has been released. I also figured this could be a place to discuss bug findings and fixes/workarounds in a forum where, in my opinion, the technical skills of the average poster is higher and that we would see better problem reporting and solutions rather than posts on how to revert back or about when will Q stable be released.
Now, regarding your post, what was your point in posting your comment?

I was just curious. It makes more sense when you put it that way. I just figured @funkwizard is gonna make a post about it soon since he's usually the one that makes official posts about things related to OnePlus. There are already a few other bug posts about the beta so I just don't see a point in having multiple posts about the same thing cause then it just confusing and certain people like to ask the same thing on multiple threads instead of searching and then people have to answer the same questions people ask when they post the same thing all the time.

I get that when I try Nova or Lawnchair launchers, it will always revert back to the 3 buttons. I also got stuck while playing Fallout yesterday. I had the gestures turned on and could not get out of the game. Swipe up (home) or swipe up and hold (recent) wouldn't work. I was able to finally go back to the launcher by going nuts tapping randomly on the screen but that was as interesting bug... stuck in a game.
RSA still hasn't bothered updating their token app for Android Q, it still thinks my phone has no network connectivity (cell or WIFI)
Android 10 Encryption :/
Is there a workaround to acces the "/" partition when magisk won't work? Or acces an android q encrypted internal storage?

You can switch back to gestures after setting a new launcher but I'm not sure how stable that it, the OS might want to revert back a few minutes later.

I believe this has something to do with how the phone handles other launchers. When you are in another app for some time and then go back to home screen, the launcher gets opened which resets the buttons.
Already reported to OnePlus. I think others have also reported this to OnePlus.
If you want to consistently reproduce this issue, Just change the default launcher to OnePlus launcher and back to Nova, you will see the navbars reset
Battery life seems much better than DP5 for me. It has only been 24 hours of course so it's not long enough but I lost 6% battery for 3 hours at work while on DP5 it was closer to 20% for 3 hours of light use.

Interestingly the gestures now rotate with the phone meaning to exit you must swipe on the horizontal edge.
Does anybody know why we don't get the dark mode? Pixel has it but why don't we? I don't mean the bad "forced" dark mode in developer options.

While I had override force dark on my ambient display became completely gray? I'm guessing it's just a system wide color inverter
Unfortunately the navbar will keep switching back on reboot/launcher change until OP fixes it. "Officially" the gesture navigation should only work with the stock launcher (since elements of the navigation are in the launcher itself), thus changing launchers will kill it (even though it is clear that the navigation works just fine without using the stock launcher). The reset is most likely caused by leftover code that checks if the launcher can provide the navigation gestures + recents, and if it can't, it disables the gestures (then proceeds to load recents + nav gestures from the fallback launcher, which is the stock one, but the reset still happens).
As for when the home gesture doesn't work. Try opening and closing the notification drawer, that usually fixes the nav gesture issues for me.

Judging by the numerous complaints of issues with the new A10 updates, it looks like OneUI with Android 10 is NOT ready to replace Android9, yet it's rolling out as OTA upgrades. I predict it won't be long before people regret this new update and want to roll back to A9. I have a U1 variant and haven't gotten a prompt to update yet. It seem like a good time to fire up adb and disable the packages that are responsible for updates.
Anybody love the new OneUI w/A10 they got on their N9 via OTA? What's good about it?
I haven't had any issues and know a few others that haven't as well, but we are a small amoint of people, so yeah.
I really don't feel a difference between Android 9 and 10 with the exception of how dark mode is implemented now. That's honestly it for me. Battery life for me on the Note 8 and 9 have always been meh, but so has every other phone for me with the small exception of the Xperia Z Ultra and LG Optimus something big. Whatever the big one was.

I went back to Android 9 a couple days ago. To me, and this is just my opinion, 10 feels like 9 to me. And the sad thing is Samsung considers this a major update so that means the 9 will not see anymore other then security patches.

Google did state that Android 10 would be a significant improvement over Android Pie. Whether that is the case or not we have yet to be certain. But it is safe to say that Android Pie for the Note 9 will not be receiving any security patches now. As Samsung will only be releasing patches for Android 10 for the Note 9 from now on.
That is what I meant. 10 patches not Pie

On 10 and loving it. Miss a few good lock options. Battery life has been great while gaming compared to 9. I read a lot of posts here and have not run across any issues yet.
This is what I am waiting for, more news of good or bad experiences with A10. I am very happy on A9 (I have U1 variant) and I dont want to click update yet because I like it how it is. I hate that they stop security patches tho. Dark mode means squat, I have themes that work for that. I also use good lock features alot. I guess I will keep postponing the update till I see more threads about it. The silence is weird, normally there are pages of complaints after a new version comes out.

Iv been on 10 for awhile now, and i have noticed its a little sluggish. Flashed in odin, then i performed a factory reset and it is still sluggish. Hoping for an update soon
Yeah, comparing A10 to A9 (stock) is a different comparison than OneUI A10 to OneUI A9 (Samsung's) ... and that is because one of the major differences with stock Android is that A10 finally integrated dark mode.... But Samsung did that with OneUI on A9, sooo... I have OneUI with Android 9, everything is dark, it all looks good, and I like it. Also, nothing seems buggy.
It doesn't look like there is any reason at all to upgrade to OneUI w/A10, unless I like to take my chances and see if Samsung bugged up a rushed release.
I actually really, really, hate white apps. So if OneUI with A10 integrates dark mode into apps much better than it does with A9, then I would consider the upgrade, for Google apps like gmail, maps, docs, etc.
Good points from all. It's not that Android 10 is bad, it just doesnt seem much different then Android 9. For me the gestures were horrible. I'm sure peeps like them but just not for me.

Android 10 OTA has been great for me - getting better battery life and everything smooth and fluid. No problems whatsoever, and I just did the upgrade OTA, no clean wipe or anything like that (thankfully). Did use Galaxy Labs App Optimiser and I do believe apps open noticeably faster afterwards.
P.S. Still using navigation gestures as I was on 9 and notice little difference.
How are the gestures in 10 different from 9?
I have no buttons on my screen. Bottom right corner swipe up goes back to previous screen. Bottom middle swipe up goes to home screen. Bottom left swipe up shows all running apps.
Is OneUI/A10 different than that?
Someone can tell me how is the volume on Android 10 compared to Android 9? Is it louder or similar?

i think you are using 3rd party launchers? because the new full gestures can only be used on samaung one ui launcher
I am in San Francisco, with unlocked US Note 9, and have not received A10 update.
Has anyone on here in the bay area received it?
If needed, point me to another thread for this question.

Stock full screen gestures (no buttons showing) in settings > display > navigation bar. This is built into OneUI/A9

so you mean to say you dont have the new full screen gestures of android 10?
bdw your fullscreen really shows fullscreen apps?
I've had A10 for a few days now, and besides one small glitch (commas and periods are doubled when I press the icons, and sometimes the space doubles also using the space bar), I've had no issues with it.

I mean to say that I am running stock A9/OneUI with fullscreen gestures built into the OS (not from a third-party app), and from what people are describing about the fullscreen gestures in A10/OneUI, they are not any different. And yes, my fullscreen really shows fullscreen apps--no software buttons.
Ive found that A10 and UI2, cannot handle gestures and fullscreen mode any where near as well as A9 UI1.
Ive tried A10 twice now and both times, from a full wipe, the fullscreen/immersive mode messes up the A10 gestures. Whereas A9 can run fullscreen (no buttons, no taskbar, full immersive for all apps) and use gestures without any issue, and with just one swipe.
You try using proper fullscreen/immersive on A10 with gestures, and it takes two swipes to do anything, and Edge Panel Apps just gets ruined, as you cannot swipe open any more. There must be some conflict in Fullscreen/Immersive mode.
I use bxactions to toggle Fullscreen/Immersive from the Bixby button.
In the leaked videos, the user was able to show the homescreen with icons on the rear display. Was that any early MIUI version option only?
In the current firmware, it's not possible... Laybe later?
Anyway, I don't see myself using an app on it, it's really small for that, + it'd require UI changes from the devs...

I would like to use it to answer with speaker or decline calls. Also use it for quick responses to text.
I have noticed I can skip songs on the Spotify playlist when it's playing by accidentally touching the rear display
( I haven't found anything useful to do with it yet tbh and I hope they improve the functionality of it )
Ohh nice! As of now it's pretty early, I'm sure they'll add those little things during updates

I haven't found any way to enable that home screen in rear panel but I haven't been trying either tbh
I don't think I'm getting the red notification light on the rear display either like it shows in the Xiaomi presentation vids but maybe I just need to enable it somehow
I usually don't set my phone's with the screen facing downwards on tables anyway so it's got limited usefulness to me anyway whether it works or not

The latest update to the 'Rear Display' app breaks the red notification indicator as far as I can tell.
But to enable it/change appearance
go to settings>special features>rear display.

I'm on the EU 12.5.3 and I like it but I think I have no red light flashing on the back screen for notifications although it is enabled in the settings...
One of the issues is the rear screen can only stay on for 30 seconds max which maybe why people think the notification is not working properly ( because you would have to double tap to see it even if it is working properly)
And who likes to set their phone face down anyway? These screens are fragile and very expensive !
Honestly think they just had a screenshot of their home screen and made it the image I never actually seen anyone able to use the mini screen
Yeah they haven't ironed the kinks out pertaining to the rear display.
Out of the box, I had the red led indicator show up although it would be there even when I had no notifications.
I like it as a novelty feature but they really need to address the functionality bit.
