Not sure if anyone has encountered this issue yet with the SGH-i957 or not but I noticed that Netflix and Skype both have a 2-4 second lag in video. I also noticed that Hulu Plus is not supported. YouTube works great!!! Would the lag be due to the Honeycomb 3.2 software? I know that there was a problem on some roms with lag on Netflix and Hulu app. There was video lag just on the desktop of this device until i downloaded ADW Launcher EX and then it was as smooth as butter. So I am guessing that this is software not hardware issue. This is with stock ROM no root or anything.
About the stock launcher, it is a common fact that it lags. Overall, I wouldn't be surprised if the video problem was related with the Samsung's ROM. Samsung's TouchWiz ROMs for Galaxy Tabs are well known for their poor performance. I have a custom ROM on my GT-7310 (which technically should be slower) and I get no lag even with 720p video.

Yes. Stock ROMs (for the Galaxy Tab) are well known for their poor performance. I have a custom ROM and get no lag.
I think the user RF12 had the same issue as you.
So will rooting and the new kernel fix this? Is this just on some devices and not all?

i am running stock kernel, no OC, and rooted, and i didnt see any lag.
if you are still experiencing it, there may be some build.prop tweaks that you could make to improve fps or multimedia performance.
I have the same problem with my i957 on Netflix, but only on certain shows. "Cheers" lags horribly by the middle of the show, but any HD content I watch plays just fine. So far, all HD content plays fine and some SD content lags. This leads me to believe it's the app that has a problem. What content lags for you? Try watching "The Office" and see if it lags. Maybe we can nail this down.
I haven't used Skype yet, but I'll give it a go.
(Stock)
Is that the British or American version of office?
I was thinking that the problem was with the app. I still need to try it in Dolphin or Firefox browser if I can. In Skype, the video of the person on the other end was just fine but down in the left hand corner where you can see yourself, everything I did was a few seconds behind. The lag was also there for the person on the other line too. It isn't the camera because the taking video looks just fine.
It may just be that the apps are not optimized for tablets, I dunno.
So U.K. The Office does work fine. That is only the second video I have tried, although the controls are not very responsive. The app definitely doesn't work as well as it does on the Skyrocket.
I wonder if we could get the APK for the phone version of Netflix, and if it would run on the 8.9? If so, that might settle whether the app or the device is at fault...
Good idea...anyone know how to make an apk from an app?

Well, it looks like it was a ported ICS wallpaper that was causing the Netflix lag issue. I just turned it off and the app ran much smoother, and was more responsive. I did notice that the video quality faded in and out sometimes, from crystal clear to almost blurred.
I also tried the NF website in Firefox to see if that was any better, however after selecting a video, it takes u to a page that says the site is only compatable with Windows, Apple, and Chrome OS.
Shouldn't there be a mobile Silverlight pluggin? It makes me wonder what the app uses to play video.

Is this a common problem with all the Tab 8.9's or is it just me. I have a bone stock new Tab and when I try and play youtube or other videos, it stops every couple seconds and lags ... Wallpapers all look pixelated no matter what resolution I download ...I love the Tab so far, but things that should operate without too much tweaking or manipulation seem to require a lot of work to get working correctly. I hope I dont regret the decision of not getting an Ipad
Im sorry to tell you, but all Tegra 2 devices are unable to play 720p or 1080p videos without stutter. Even with an OCd Cpu it wont (some people say, but theyre desperate just like all of us..)
Other dual cores can because they have something integrated, that we call NEON. So its not about the cpu speed at all, its about a missing function, to decode HD material (overall video material, but the cpu can handle low resolution vids).
Some codecs on the market (for ex. BSplayer) can help but it'll still be a bit laggy.
EDIT: It is possible to play 720p or 1080p videos. You have to convert the video to H.264 Baseline profile. With that, it should work.

Try mxplayer. I found anything I recorded on my S2 would stutter like mad when played back on my tab but since mxplayer upgraded and added the hw+ decoder it plays perfect. As for youtube this problem has come up since the ICS update and not much you can do about it sorry

So I've watched a few 4K videos, and I've watched a few 4K 60 frames per second videos, and both of those seem to work pretty well on this unlocked Note 8. However when I actually try to watch the HDR videos I get some pretty significant lag and choppiness, even when watching 1080p HDR. Does anybody else see this happening on their device?

You're not the only one
I too am having an issue in YouTube on the Note 8 wherre anything played back above 720p60 HDR becomes super slow and unwatchable in terms of something thats supposed to be 60fps. If you stick to 720p60 HDR for now you won't have that problem. Hopefully Google pushes out an update for YouTube asap
LG V30 stutter at 1080p HDR and above
I am experiencing the same problem too, my New LG v30 has the same issue. My internet speed is over 200mbps and I experience lag like crazy. I called Google about it and they said it is an issue on several devices and should be fixed in the coming months.
I have the same problem. Huge lag and audio sync lag when viewing videos in HDR
US unlocked note 8 , and no troubles here watching HDR. No lag or stuttering. Can you link a specific video and I can try that and let you know what happens.

Ok, unless I am doing something different, I still can not get it to stutter or have audio sync issues. I have watched Marco polo on Netflix that is supposed to be 4khdr. I have watch almost all 4k Samsung demos on you tube. I have 100 mbps internet going to a 5ghz wireless router, and sir about 20 ft from it. I can't find the setting in Netflix app to set 2160p , but can find settings in YouTube. I will keep trying.

In youtube you should see 2160p hdr settings otherwise no real hdr i think

Well I tried it.. US unlocked and works GREAT! I notice some SAY HDR yet are not. I tried setting the screen different sizes and I dont get lag. That being said.. some can really tell...it could be me. I think WIFI and things running in back ground can effect it.. duh.. But I don't get lag. US unlocked SnapD

I've watched that video just now (plus other 4K HDR videos on YouTube) in 1440p settings and I get zero lag anywhere. I've got an exynox Indonesian Note 8, watching on a WiFi connection that is originally only 30mbps then routed through a tp-link powerline router (max 10mbps).

I watched this video , smooth as silk. Wonderful video, love all of the snakes , but frame rate was smooth, nothing choppy or laggy. I only had the option up to 1440p , and that is what I watched it in.

No lag on this video but i dont see it being indicated as HDR just 1440P, I think we might need to add more details when testing. I suggest everyone who claims smooth/stuttery enable stats for nerds on youtube and make sure to report if the video format shows 2560x1440 ( as sometimes youtube will still display 1080p even if you have 1440p selected ) and then mention if its 1440p, 1440p HDR or 1440p60 HDR.
A good example is to try this video and make sure video format shows 2560x1440

There is a very minor stuttering especially if you are sensitive to it, I asked someone do a blind test on me on a random scene on the clip and 10/10 I was able to tell it correctly. The stuttering is not buffering related. But Im glad that you are not sensitive to the stuttering. I was able to also test this 4 snapdragon variants and 2 on exynos all of which had same results. I think this is a bug on the player as it only stutters when playing in full screen.
Exynos India version and yes, even i observed this stuttering last night. Its quite annoying though. Let me know if you guys find any solution.

It has to say 1080 HDR or 1440 HDR for the stutter if it does not say HDR then you are not watching at the same quality as us with the issue.
Watched it after I turned on nerd stats , 1440p60hdr setting, and sorry to report, it was quite smooth. The colors were vibrant and scenes with the sunlight were quite realistic.

I'm glad i'm not alone. Youtube crashed and restarted my phone too. Have had the phone for 1 month and happened twice. I think it's an app problem at this point
Edit: I also tried several HDR 1440p 60fps (Peru 8k HDR 60fps FUHD) video and it lags. Have the Exynos version of the Note 8
Anyone else experience issues with Standard Video on applications such as YouTube TV or Amazon Video? BOLD support is useless, sent ticket in on this 2 weeks ago and then called and the girl was clueless.
Too bad seems like s software issue otherwise the phone is great but its getting returned, no point with this amazing screen to watch 480p video...oddly enough regular YouTube does support 1080p.
Yes. YoutubeTv is 480p on mine as well. I wonder why. Normal YouTube does 1080p so I don't see why tv couldn't.
Hello, I've noticed that after I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device, Prime Video is not streaming on 1080p HD anymore even though the device has Widevine L1 certification (Netflix is working fine). It looks really really bad. I've managed to keep google pay working, and installed the Netflix fix too (liboemocrypto.so patch or something like that)...is anyone facing the same issue or know a fix to the problem?

How did you notice it isn't HD? Mine seems to be in HD on my rooted MI9T pro... How can I check?
Are you sure ur netflix running on hd?
Try watch test pattern and report here.
It will automatically adjust n show the actual format u watch

In upper right corner it says "null kbps, 1920:1080, PAR 1:1 , 8 bpc, 23.976 fps" I think Netflix is ok...it seems it is not triggering HDR but maybe because the test doesn't support it.

It looks like actual crap, there are no details, it shows compression arctifacts on complex scenes and fast moving objects...like it is running on 240p or 360p. Moreover if the video is running in FullHD the Prime video player will show 1080p HD under the progress bar just next to the minutes counter.
I am sure it is not a bandwidth problem since I've got gigabit fiber at home and fast 4G+ Data. Tested speed before reproducing were 522Mbps on WiFi and 130Mbps on 4G+, tested both on ookla and fast.com
EDIT: in the settings menu I've selected maximum streaming and quality, but it says that the Data consumption will be 0.46GB per hour...it seems really lo...what you guys get? Could anyone with a locked and stock device please share a screenshot of the quality settings?
I can't stream in HD even on a stock device. As far as I know, noone can.

Same on stock. Quality is not as bad as you describe but I can see a bit of compression like its's 720 maybe. Netflix on the test chart says 720p max for me (even on the 1080p test) but Netflix settings say that HDR 1080 is supported

It should be possible since Amazon whitelisted our device in December, so we should be able to stream content at full resolution as reported in some articles...I think I have the EEA Rom, and maybe only the Global Rom Is whitelisted...or maybe only Raphael and not Raphaelin...i've seen screenshot of FullHD content running on the device (with locked bootloader)

I'm running at full quality on Netflix and I am sure of that...I watched some Irish man content and it even triggered HDR on and it was running at full res, with noticeably high quality.
