Hard Bricked Mi9 Global - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

So have I done something that apparently no one else has on XDA.
Hard bricked my Mi9?
I have heard that you cannot go back from Miui 11 to Miui 10 on China based models or try an install a rom with a locked bootloader.
None of those things are the case here as this is a global Mi9 purchased within New Zealand.
None of the usual tricks work. No battery light black screen no input response from buttons.
Appears like a total hard brick an I have no idea why. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with hard bricked Mi9s that have bricked for no reason after I did standard things an the bootloader was unlocked?

what about edl ? do you already try it?

The idea of unsealing my Mi9 an looking for 2 tiny points to connect does not appeal.
Maybe I could pay a technician to try it

Connect the charger, hold all the buttons (except the AI one), until you feel the phone vibrate or at least see the battery charging LED blink.
Don't let go after 5-10 seconds, but keep holding for 30+ seconds. See if anything happens.

a while ago i bricked my mi9se (because of lazyiness while flashing wrong android rom version with a wrong twrp without changing twrp version before).
so fastboot or recovery not worked. EDL mode was only enterable with contact/test point method -> opening back, connect the two points, connect usb cable. (you have to look on youtube for the right contact points for mi9).
so i entered EDL mode, but:
you have to have a authorized xiaomi account to flash something, and a special xiaomi tool to do that. no chance to skip that. believe me.
on older xiaomi devices you maybe can flash something on your own in edl mode. not so on newer devices like the mi9se, and presumably also on mi9.
you have to have your phones back removed, and look for somebody on the internet with a authorized xiaomi account. there are some ppl out there, which maybe can unbrick your phone in EDL mode via teamviewer for a charge around 15 to 25 bucks.

When you connect the phone to the PC , go to control panel and then under device manager, Com ports you should see Port 9008. if so you are in EDL mode. As long as your phone is bound to you ( you have the needed credentials to sign into MiCloud, you should be able to restore your phone.)
I do not have the mi9 Yet. I have a Mi8 and I am considering a Mi9
Try flashing the global fastboot rom for your device.
IMPORTANT >>>>>>> It must be a fastboot images rom and not a regular recovery rom<<<<<<
Use google for the absolute latest build, I spent 30 seconds just now and found this page which as it linked : https://xiaomifirmware.com/roms/download-official-miui-roms-for-xiaomi-mi-9/ You want/NEED the one called " 11.0.3.0 QFAMIXM | Fastboot | Download"
Unpack Rom twice on your desktop, ( Its double compressed, must be unpacked twice.)
Open folder and you will see a folder that is called Images and a series of batch files.
With phone connected and in EDL or fastboot , double click "flashall.bat" Do not choose the file that asks to lock the bootloader , if it exists) This batch file will restore every single partition from the folder called images.
When it is finished the phone will reboot, sign into your wifi, and then Mi Cloud account and begin setup.
Be sure to make a Twrp backup and save it to your desktop.
You are welcome, enjoy your phone.
PS: if this fails you may need to buy a deep flash cable from Amazon, they cost $6 to $20
https://www.amazon.com/Flash-Cable-xiaomi-Models-Engineering/dp/B06ZYG46VZ Another option is using a program called QPST
If this helped you, you are welcome to buy me a beer, via my paypal. If you can afford to do so.

Tried button pushing advice an no luck. Will try this but am pretty sure surgery is probably my best option.
Thanks for trying to help. 11.0.3.0 is an excellent rom an I've had success several times with soft bricks as it bricked in a bootloader loop with the little Xiaomi cartoon thingy.
I might try your suggestion with both my miflash set up an my miflashpro set up ?

LOCKED bootloader / possible to flash anything?

Hello guys,
Is it possible to flash anything to the Redmi 4X Global if the bootloader is locked? Perhaps using fastboot, Mi Flash Tool or some unofficial tool I don't know about? Maybe using the device's IMEI numbers and SN? Just shooting in the dark here.
My situation:
Locked Mi account, credentials unknown. Want to reset.
Details:
A relative of mine works at a store that sells smartphones. Boss rarely bothers sending defective devices for repairs and often gives them to employees instead. A customer brought this device back because some of the pixels on the screen are dead. He said he had performed a factory reset on the phone. They gave him a new one and handed the "defective" one to my relative who noticed the Mi Account Locked thing upon booting. When I got the device yesterday, the battery was dead. I charged it a little bit and when it turned on, it went through the setup normally, I was able to use the device without issues for 30 seconds or so (!), THEN it locked me out! That makes me think that if I let the battery go down to 0 and wait before charging and turning it back on, that will give me enough time to go to developed options and turn on OEM unlock and USB debugging (which needs a SIM card I think for some reason but OK). Then I may be able to unlock it; but that requires a lot of waiting and is unlikely to work anyway.
If you have an FRP locked Samsung phone, you just flash the stock ROM through Odin and it's as good as new. But Xiaomi locks everything down so tightly, there isn't even a download mode (just reboots to system if I choose "download" on the recovery menu)!
Wondering if there's any way to bypass all this? I don't mind the risk of bricking it cause it's useless as it is. Opening the device's back and tinkering is not an obstacle either :good: In all honestly, I understand Xiaomi does this for security (although if Samsung doesn't do it, I'm not sure why Xiaomi even bothers) and it would make me feel better knowing if someone stole my locked Xiaomi phone, they wouldn't be able to use this, but at the moment it's simply frustrating. I also know that officially unlocking the bootloader often doesn't even work, gets stuck or you never get an unlock code (personal experience with broken Xiaomi unlocking system)...
Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance.
i have a bootloader locked redmi x4 and wanted to take its original firmware backup (requires edl-mode) before unlocking/rooting/tinkering the device (i always do this with all my devices), tried every possible solution (except test point) but couldn't succeed.
You can try with deep flash cable or patched fastboot if your x4 has an old firmware...
And as per my knowledge, shorting test points is the only solution for new/updated xiaomi devices to open edl-mode now, only then you can reflash it... Good luck...
if you find any other solution, please share. As currently i have to wait for 3 days before i can unlock my x4...

So, I Googled the Test Point method and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the info!! :good:
Basically you open the phone's back, you unscrew a small metal plate and then you have access to 2 tiny dots, the "test points", which apparently are built exactly for such purposes.
Instructions:
You unplug the battery (and the display I think although once it worked with the display plugged so don't take my word for it), temporarily connect the test points with a pair of tweezers or a paperclip ?, while the test points are connected you plug the phone to the PC and it miraculously shows up in device manager under "ports" as "Qualcomm 9008"! (Qualcomm drivers need to be installed. If it shows up as "diagnostics..." anything, you did something wrong).
The device is flashable in that state, you use XiaoMiFlash to flash a stock ROM (it's a folder that contains a folder named "images". The flash tool doesn't have you selecting specific files to flash, you need to select the whole images folder).
Pictures attached.
Left: the screws you gotta unscrew
Right: the test points and what you need to unplug
PS on opening the back: insert a flat narrow tool (best to have a smartphone repair kit) where the back plate connects with the front part of the phone (NOT where the glass meets the rest of the device). At first it won't go in but be persistent and patient, eventually it it. Wobble it back and forth and go slowly around the whole device the same way, paying attention not to wound the parts under the side buttons. Once you do that, it'll be possible to remove the back with your hands. Don't yank it because you need to carefully unplug the tape connecting the fingerprint sensor to the motherboard first
Or just wait a couple of days when you ask for a unlocked bootloader
Whatever floats your boat

Hi, I don't think you actually read the post. The device I got was completely locked, not just the bootloader. There was no way to remove the Mi account. Since the device does not normally have a download mode, there was no way to flash the stock firmware in order to factory reset it. The only way that I know of now, is what I did and described above

Locked bootloader and phone bricked
Hi,
I have a locked redmi 4x device which cannot boot to system. I can only boot to fastboot or to stock recovery. Since the bootloader is locked, I cannot flash TWRP or any rom. I have tried to apply for unlock permissions from xiaomi at http://en.miui.com/unlock/
but the link is greyed out for me. (screenshot attached)
Please let me know if there is a way to unlock my bootloader without the test points method. Thanks.
Your doing correct
Go ahead
Try using the Test Point, i use that to flash my new Redmi 4X from chinese version to global version.
Did it work?

Hi, as far as I know, there is no other way. The test points are there exactly for cases like yours and mine, where you need to restore a device to factory defaults. There's no reason not to try it. If you are careful, you won't damage the phone and it won't even show that you opened it.

Sorry for pulling an old thread but I was wondering if this solution would work in Redmi Note 3SD as I am facing the same problem i.e. locked bootloader and no option to enter developer options for turning on debugging options
I have the same issue

I found a solution wherin I require to use a Deep Flash Cable so as to flash a stock ROM. I just ordered one and am planning to try that. Do you think that method would work as well? .... After reading your post I tried opeing up the phone... but one of the screws is so messep up it just isn't unscrewing!
So my question, is the Deep Flash Cable method legit ?

Alrternate method found:
#1 To enter EDL mode (also known as Download mode) :
Make a 'Deep Flash Cable' by short-circuiting the 'Green' and the 'Black' wire inside the USB cable. I would better recommend you to buy a quality thick USB cable from a local store and tell the guy to cut open the cable and solder the green and the black wire to a small switch.
Now, power off your device and yes, make sure it's powered off. (In case the device is not getting powered off, see the images below for disconnecting and reconnecting the battery connector.)
If Windows 10 or 8/8.1, press 'Shift' key while restarting your computer. Now, go to Advanced settings - Startup Settings - Reboot, and if on Windows 7, reboot your PC and press F8 key before the Windows startup icon appears.
Now, select 'Disable Driver Signature Enforcement' from the list.
Connect the cable to your phone and pressing the switch, connect the cable to your PC. Your phone should not show as charging. Being sure that it's not charging, release the switch. You should now see your device recognized as 'Qualcomm QLoader 9008' under Device Manager. Voila ! You are on EDL mode.
Link for making your own Deep Flash cable : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmdrj4uX7gY
#2 To flash official MIUI ROM :
Download the fastboot ROM for your device, and download the latest Mi Flash tool from http://api.bbs.miui.com/url/MiFlash
I would recommend downloading the fastboot ROM with a separate download manager. Internet Download Manger - Recommended (https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/download.html)
Also install 7Zip and WinRAR from https://ninite.com/
Now, first extract the fastboot ROM file with WinRAR and then re-extract it from the extract folder with 7Zip, and shorten the file names.
Having installed Mi Flash tool along with all its drivers ( I mean the popups asking for installing driver while installing Mi Flash), run it and select 'Clean all' from the bottom-right side.
Click 'Refresh' and it should show as 'COM10' or something similar. Now, click 'Flash'. And yes, that's it.
After successful flash, disconnect it from the cable and boot it up by pressing the Power key until it vibrates and turns on.
Yeah, you DID IT
*Why a download manager ? I had downloaded the file with Chrome and Firefox (without even pausing it), but even after successful flash, the phone does not boots into MIUI. It gets stuck on the MI logo. However, on using a download manager, the boot successfully completes without any hassle. I have used several download manager, but only IDM downloads the file with .tar extension which always and YES, ALWAYS results in successful flash. You can try out a different method but I would recommend you to play safe as my method is FOOLPROOF.
I have try this method before, but unfortunately it doesnt work. When i connecting those 2 pins, there are nothing changed in my device manager. No new hardware founds at all. I Have install these drivers too, no luck

[SOLVED] Mi 9 bricked after latest MIUI 11. Help me please.

EDIT: Solved, check latest post. (#28)
My Mi 9 bricked after i flashed the MIUI 11 beta (9.9.24), then with MiFlash, flashed back to Global (i have unlocked the bootloader)
Now the phone is in this state:
- Screen black, no signal to anything, no LED turns on
- Cannot boot to System, Fastboot, Recovery, or EDL
- Does not react to any button combination (Tried with/without charger, power button holding for 1 min, etc.) Guess i'm f-ed
Can someone help me please? :/
I'm not an expert but if you phone don't event turn on, how you expect someone to help you? The only one who can help you it's a service or a repair lab. I don't think that the problem is in software.

You need to open back cover, find EDL testpoint pins and flash full ROM through MiFlash.
If you dont have authorized Mi account for EDL flash, find someone who have it.

Can you dubbelcheck the rom you tried to flash? Make sure its really for MI9? This kind of trouble most of the time happens when flashing a rom for another phone. Like MI9T or something.

Yes it was cepheus_global_images_V10.2.13.0.PFAMIXM_20190709.0000.00_9.0_global. I followed every instruction for flashing with MiFlash tool....
I had a similar problem when I received the phone, I couldn't start it right out of the box, it's certainly not the same problem but I waited a few hours and then I had the idea to boot it in fastboot and when I restarted it, it worked

Can not read from port COM Mi Flash

I think I finally destroyed my cell phone. I tried to install the Chinese version firmware on my Mi 9T Pro Global and it's on a Hard Brick: It doesn't turn on fastboot or recovery. Opening the phone, I managed to connect to EDL to try to recover by Mi Flash and only the error "Can not read from port com" appears and I've tried everything! I tried several different ROMS, changed the Firehose file that prevents unauthorized accounts by MI Auth, changed Mi Flash versions, installed all necessary drivers several times, changed the USB port to 2.0 and 3.0 and nothing happened. I also tried alternative programs like Qualcomm's QPST/QFIL, and also a Virtual Box. I just found a thread that taught a method where I would have to pay 15 dollars to recover the phone, but what if I hard brick it again , I'll always have to pay 15 dollars to retrieve the cell phone, and I can't do that, not to mention that I don't even know if this method would work. Holy s*** I don't think I've ever been so desperate hahahaha has anyone retrieved any Mi 9T Pro through EDL, or at least knows how to solve this port COM problem?

Paying someone is the only way to make EDL work these days.
Also ensure your cable works. My port didn't seem to work with any Xiaomi cables for data, however it fortunately worked with a magnetic end charging cable as my port is presumably a tad damaged.
You will get your money back with the guy I did it with if it doesn't work.
So touching those pins are the only way you can get any sort of output to the screen?
[Edit]
The price of a new motherboard is really expensive. I'd probably rule that out.
Also if you can get to download mode in any way, I'd use Linux. I've not managered to get ADB working on Windows this year. However Linux has been fine. EDL flashing worked in Windows for me.

My cable seems to be working as it charges my mom's cell phone, and the PC also recognizes the EDL, though I haven't tried using other cables.
Yes, Test Point is the only answer the phone gives me that it's still alive, as the PC recognizes the EDL, even though the phone doesn't turn on the screen (it doesn't even vibrate when I hold the power button or try to turn it on on the fastboot/recovery)
If it's a motherboard problem, I'll follow your advice and buy another cell phone, it wouldn't be worth it to just send it for assistance and pay a fortune
Finally, I don't have access to any linux unfortunately, but I was also having problems with ADB, and that's exactly why I accidentally installed Chinese Firmware lol
Mine got all the way up to the flashing point and it failed until I changed cable. Just because it charges, doesn't mean it'll work for data.
And you've tried vol up + hold power? And try detach the battery so it's definitely off of EDL.
I mean a motherboard will fix it, but that's just to replace your emmc memory. But you're better off trying the EDL pay service regardless.
What do you mean you don't have access to Linux? It's free and one doesn't need to install it to boot into it.
After you recover to an ancient Chinese rom through EDL, one still needs to unlock the bootloader to go back to something better like Miui.eu.

About the cable I didn't know it could be detected by the pc and at the same time not being able to transfer data, thanks! I will try to change the cable in the next attempts
Yes, I tried to hold the volume and power, but nothing happened. I also tried it with the battery ribbon cable plugged in and unplugged, but both didn't work either.
I don't know anything about PC OS hahaha mb, for me installing linux in my pc, would be like installing IOS on a Samsung. So I think I have access to Linux
About the bootloader I don't think I'll have any problems, I've already unlocked the phone, rooted it and changed the ROM to an AOSP-based one
Oh, and forgot to say: a friend also hard bricked his Mi 8 Lite and retrieved it via EDL. He said that the problem I'm having, he was also, and he only managed to solve it after downloading the rom and files of a guy here in Brazil, but unfortunately on the site he didn't have the Mi 9T Pro files He said he changed firehose, persist, patch0 and rawprogram0 (all files present in the images folder of ROM) and it worked! Mi Auth was bypassed and the system came out of the brick.

Unbrick Redmi 8

My phone suddenly get stucked into Redmi boot logo, cannot access system recovery but can access fastboot menu.
The problem is I hadn't enabled OEM unlock and developer options before. All the methods that I found so far requires bootloader unlock for that I also don't have MI account . What might be my next move? Thank you.
its hard to say what we can|t do with a still locked bootloader. if going to an authorized service center is out of reach, all we can do is try i guess. id still suggest going there if you can easily access your google account.
there are a few threads that say we can flash a still locked bl, but im not so sure.
Flash stock ROM/Recovery, lock bootloader?
Is there any guide on how I can complete return phone to stock and lock bootloader? Thank you.

official stock roms can be hard to find on their site, heres an easier to navigate 1.

With EDL mode? I'm in a similar situation, a friend's mother forced a shutdown during a firmware update and destroyed the system that way. Of course the bootloader is blocked. I find it extremely stupid of Xiaomi to rely on a working system to give you the chance to unlock the bootoader but I guess that's how you sell some extra phones.
So far I've taken out the rear cover and the plastic that goes on top of the motherboard, unplugged the battery and with an arduino cable and some fiddeling shorted the "boot" pins while connecting the USB cable. Seems to be working given that MiFlash has changed the locked bootloader error for "indice fuera de limites" or in English "index out of limits error". I guess I don't have the right ROM so I'm downloading another one, but I'm struggilng to find the correct original fastboot ROM. The first one I've downloaded from Mi Community, the second one is from xiaomifirmwareupdater, but is gonna take forever to download. And I mean... F-O-R-E-V-E-R

Question Mi 11 Android 12 Hard Brick (12.5.1.0.SKBMIXM)

Hello,
I tried to update to Android 12 to see the new functionalities, I've done it quite some times so I knew what I was doing. But actually... I came accross a big problem.
After that I wanted to go back to the Android 11 version, and so I launched Twrp again, but it didn't boot the same way it usually does. No asking for password, no changing language available, and no data visible on phone (where you choose to install magisk for example)
And so I searched a way to reboot the phone seeing I wasn't able to do anything... but the fun comes after. In that new version, the power button doesn't reboot/stop the phone anymore, it's done with that accessibility pop-up you got on the menu. So, I was stuck inside Twrp.
I fount a reboot section, and I tapped on it, but it seems it wasn't the actual reboot..
Now I'm stuck with a black screen, phone doesn't start, no fastboot, no recovery mode available whatsoever when I press the combination of Volume +/- and power button. Pressing the three for a minute didn't help either. I tried everything.
My phone is apparently stuck in EDL mode, beeing recognized as COM3 on my computer.
I tried flashing it with XiaomiFlash, with the Android 11 12.5.9.0 SKBMIXM version but either it says the phone doesn't answer, or "write time out" or something.
My photos are saved on google and my app are mostly games that are linked with google account so I pretty much doesn't care about factory resetting I just want the access back now.
Is there a free solution I can do by myself ? (not going to give the access to some random telegram guys I don't know, I have read some messages)
As it's detected by the PC there is something that might be done, but that's not in the territory of things that I know sadly..
If someone can help, that would be immensely appreciated.

Global A12 is the bricked rom of the year.... There praticaly any problem with the chinese A12.
Bad news, you will paid approximatively 25/30 $ for unbrick your device, it's the only possibility, because only a certified xiaomi account can unlock EDL on your Mi account.
Good news, if you want try A12, Xiaomi.eu A12 is out, MiuiMix also... And it's really more safe.
I PM you a link for a Unbrick service
So something similar happens to me, if that's what you are referring too, TWRP gets stuck on a12 it won't respond when TWRP is injected and you want to go to recovery since it won't decrypt you will see that it shows 0 on internal memory and With the touch screen not responding, so you have to keep the power button press for awhile for it to reboot, TWRP will work but only when you boot to it from fastboot. That's how I been able to flash CN beta a12, Xiaomi EU a12, and stock Global a11(not beta version) I went back and forth yesterday from Xiaomi EU Stable, to CN beta to Xiaomi eu beta and back to Xiaomi eu Stable.
Yeah it's what happened to me, but I tried pressing the power button for a long time (1 minute or so) and nothing. Did you do it longer ?
My phone isn't actually detected by ADB or Fastboot, only EDL (COM3)
Idk if that's any recoverable..

Nothing, impossible if you don't have a certified account and only people working for Xiaomi have this account

Good to know, if I need those service will totally let you know thanks !
There is no solution except through EDL mode, through a person who has access authorization.
Unfortunately, I also went through this. The problem is that the phone is repaired by connecting the platform to your computer through a "vewever" program.
After this procedure I was hacked through my AMAZON account. I assume my passwords and passwords were stolen.
That's why it uses a computer that doesn't store data, especially the browser.
