I received my Nexus 4 today. It came before it was schedualed to as I was one with a 2-3 week estimated delivery. Which was 4 working days before the earliest delivery.
First thing I noticed is it is heavier than I expected and the inside of the box had white dust all over. Next the plastic protectors that it comes with are much better than I have seen on any other device more like screen protector for front and back with cutouts for the sensors and camera. If these were just like shipping protectors they would not be as thick nor bother to have cut outs for sensors. The Nexus 4 with the protectors on does not slide all over. I laid it on my leg at a 45 deg angle and it did not slide.
Your thoughts on the device after less than 24 hours use. Really?
nice
Trojan man.
I voided my warranty.
We don't need to see a new thread every single time someone else gets the Nexus 4. You could've quite easily used one of the other threads.

This is a thread I am going to be updating as I learn. If you don't want to follow it no one is making you.
As I learn about my Nexus 4 since I have never had such a device the things I find may help some other newbie. Also I seem to have a different opinion of some things like how slick it is, the weight and the protectors that came on it.
Now when I got it the battery was at about 70% and I have run it down to 40% charged it and run it down to 20%. Of course I was doing a lot of WiFi downloading, file transferring (via WiFi Explorer Pro), bluetooth and WiFi file transferring (to and from my Wi-Drive), streaming videos and songs (via my Wi-Drive) and watching internet youtubes. But that doesn't seem like an impressive battery to me even though it is more than I will normally need.
I have not done the upgrade yet probably tomorrow.
I have learned that I can remove the icons at the bottom of the screen and even turn them into folders. I am having a hard time trying to get dropbox to sync automatically. I can't find a setting for that. It seems each app needs to be told to sync now or it doesn't sync. I suspect it really is just something I have not figured out yet.
I tested the screen for bleed and found no bleed whatever. Same goes for dead pixels. The sound is rather good but not smooth enough for good listening. However! I found that when I have the volume turned all the way up and insert my ear buds the sound automatically drops to about a quarter full volume yet I can turn the volume all the way up and with my ear buds it gets just a little too loud but of course it is a much smoother and cleaner sound.
I tried to connect it to my computer running Linux Mint 13 KDE and could not see it.
I made several calls via WiFi with Groove IP and the sound was quite good for me and the people said they could hear me fine, but more testing is needed.
I also can't seem to get the Neo/Tv remote app to work and no clues yet.
I think you need to get out more.

Google needs to fix the Nexus 4 bugs fast
My state-of-the-art Nexus 4 phone has some major issues that aren't just frustrating - they're embarrassing. The camera will often stop working, especially when used in low light or after taking lots of pictures. I was out for a Christmas dinner with friends last night and we asked the waitress to take a picture of the group. I handed her my phone and ended up red-faced because the bloody camera wouldn't work. I also had the camera freeze with the flash still lit up on numerous occasions last night. How the hell did this get through testing? This isn't a one-off - it happens *every* time I try to take lots of pictures. I expect the camera to work.
Can you imagine the furore if the camera on an iPhone did this? People would be foaming at the mouth.
And the camera quality is pretty poor with many shots out of focus and terrible red-eye on others (with no red-eye reduction mode available) and none of the fancy new image filters can fix it. Yet I'm pretty sure ICS had a red-eye reduction filter.
And I also have a WiFi issue which means my connection speed will drop from 40MB to around 2MB for no reason. I have to toggle WiFi off/on to clear it. Rumour is that it's a problem with the WPA2 encryption used by some routers but I have yet to prove this myself and all our other devices are fine, my Nexus 7 included.
And this morning the phone rang and I couldn't answer the call because the buttons on the incoming call screen simply didn't work. It was charging at the time which I expect is the issue but even so...
In my humble opinion Google needs to get a 4.2.2 update out that addresses issues like this quickly because right now I am seriously considering selling this device and getting something else.
I am not your beta-tester Google. This just isn't good enough.
</rant>
I feel better now. Sorry if this thread sounds a little selfish but I expected so much more from a Nexus device. My 2011 Xperia arc S might of been a bit laggy but at least it was 100% reliable.
Well then return it.. or maybe learn how to use it first.
Personally I don't have any of these issues.

I no issues with my camera from Christmas dinner last night either, from 3 to 8:30pm EST I was snapping away.
No wifi issues here either.
Either yours is broken or some crap app is causing the issue.
Had the camera thing happen to me yesterday. Also have a screen bug that makes part of the screen disappear.
Buy I consider these android problem's which can be fixed. Not Nexus 4 problems.

OP should re-flash the stock ROM. If his issues continue, I'd RMA the device.

That's just the price. The actual specs could be considered state of the art.
I'm not sure why the 350 price tag seems to give people a sense of cheapness. This is what a high end phone should sell for. Instead companies **** all over the little people of the world by inflating the price by 300% and lots of times more. Google is merely just sticking it back to those companies and also marketing their ecosystem...

Google says(look at the specs of the phone)... BTW I use the crap out of my N4 camera and have not had these problems. Also I leave mine plugged inost of the day at work (I'm in a vehicle) and have never had an issue with answering. Id RMA it but it up to u if u wanna wait and see if 4.2.2 fixes these issues. I would have though 4.2.2 would be out by now but oh well.

did you put in a custom rom?
The camera bug is well documented as are the WiFi problems. This is not just an issue with my device. I'm on stock 4.2.1 fwiw. Maybe a reflash is worth a try but I doubt it.
Funny how when anyone dares to criticise this device people get all defensive though!

I've had some times where the call and lock screen are unresponsive. Usually there is a home and back button at the bottom for seemingly no reason and I have to hit ”back" to get back to the state where I can use the lock screen.. I'm guessing this is causing the call screen to lose interactivity sometimes as well. I'm suspecting issues related to lock screen widgets/extra functionality/Google Now as none of this used to happen on previous revisions, it seemed to start when that feature set was introduced. I also accidentally bring up the camera from the lock screen which gets annoying, but that's more my fault in the way I pick the phone up sometimes if I "pry" it up when it's sitting against something. Annoying, but whatever.
I have had no camera issues specially yet, though I haven't used it extensively only occasionally.
We are all beta testers for any phone we use. How do you think they know what to change and fix for future models.
Still it sure does not seem so awful for most others.
Plus, we have no idea what apps you may be using that may be messing things up.

I totally agree with OP.
Was in Switzerland last week and the camera also decided to stop working, flash would stay on, screen wouldn't turn off and it was boiling.
Turned it on and off but during those 2 days happened more then once.
It was embarrassing because I was telling my family how good this phone was but they just laughed at me. Everyone one else has an iPhone even the kids (3 iPads, 4 iPhone, 2 imacs)
So difficult to get one so might sell mine. I want a phone that works and I am not spending my money to do beta tests.
Ps. This is my second one and I we are not even talking about the rattle and the buzzing

It goes into such great details.
I wonder if HTC could do something about the night mode. Since it captures better photos in night mode than the phone adapting to the darkness. Maybe do something were the sensor notices it's dark and reviews the time on the phone to automatically go into night mode.
Jeez never read a review that was so in depth

I'm excited to see HTC turn around. I've stuck by them through it all since the OG Evo days! I can't wait to see the One and experience the next generation of HTC.
amazing
that's good:silly::silly::silly:
In fact, I do really like the iphone-similar appearance on HTC One.
It's iPhone like only in that it's metal and square... It's distinctively HTC in design though. It's way more EVO than than iPhone. I'm pretty proud that they made all of the choices for the right reasons. Now my biggest concerns are s off at some point and getting more than 1 OS upgrade out of them.

Were there recommended camera settings posted in the mega picture thread? I believe I saw a post that stated people were getting best results using a certain combo of settings. I know settings depend on circumstances but it would be nice to know what the 'bar' was.
ive been with XDA a while now and it keeps me off the streets and away from drugs and alcohol. I have had the Infuse, Note 1 and now the Mega 6.3.
I have rooted and flashed more times than I can count, even if I take my shoes off, except for the Mega. (stooped bootloader)
having a few minor issues with my Mega and have been given the option to trade in. even with its issues, I love the real estate of 6.3 inches. who wouldn't right?
once you feel the girthyness, a 5.? screen just doesn't cut it.
so in the store I discovered the Flex and was surprised to find out it is a 6 inch screen. that I can deal with.
I have been doing some reading here as to the satisfaction with the device. I do trust the majority of folks here on XDA and would like to solicit even more feedback. maybe some inclination as to the possible future of development here.

I can attest to the awesomeness of the screen real estate for sure! It is a 720p screen so keep that in mind, but videos and pictures do not suffer bc of it.. I absolutely love the way it feels in hand, in pocket, and during a phone call. This is the first phone I've used that I can pinch between my shoulder and cheek, and not have someone complain because they can't hear me anymore.. The phone is only lacking in one area, IMO, and that would be the lack of integration of the screen.. The lock screen effect is cool, but I'd like to see that utilized in menus, Chrome, Google Now and the like..The battery is a damn monster, no doubt about it! I easily get two days worth of use and 6 hours screen time every charge cycle!

I did mean to add that I love my flex. As to development it's looking like a bootloader bypass is in the near future with several devs already saying they're bringing AOSP based ROMs and I know I'll be releasing a stock based with light theme work (i.e. no more ugly grey).

I recognise your avatar from the Note threads, or was it the Infuse? Although I havent seen it in a while.
As stated, I did see and have read 2 or 3 post with the like or dislike agenda in the threads. I am also aware if the many threads that exist in the context of "what is the best rom".
The future of the development was intended to be the main question. I got the Mega in hope of a real future in development for the phone and now it is all but dead, for At&t variation that is. I was attempting to not walk down that road again.
With your experience here and a recognized face sort of speak, I tbought that your XDA experience, and others alike, might see that and offer the valued insight I seek.
But I thank you for your very predictable response.

It's an awesome phone. Like LG's software better as well. Runs smoother than my note 2 and feels better in the hand. I honestly don't think you go wrong if you decide on this phone. Best thing to do is go to a store and test it out. Worse case you have 14 days to test drive it, just need to pay the 50$ restocking fee.
Personally haven't felt the need to root this beast yet. It does amazing out of the box.

I think I'm going to switch to the Note 3. I have a few apps that I use that don't work properly on this phone, that worked perfectly fine on my Note 2. Also I miss the physical home button. I end up hitting the onscreen home button rather than the spacebar on my Flex, and I hate that.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Flex, and I would keep it if it weren't for those issues. I think if you factor out this issues I have, its a much nicer device

I hated that as well lol. There is the option to swipe the bottom row keys to the right or left. It might help some, but I found that it becomes a nuisance after a while. I was in your boots as well and did make the switch to the N3 and am happy. I miss the curve and a few small nuances of the Flex, but I don't regret switching.
Pretty sure the G2 xposed app lets you shrink the nav bar so you won't hit the button by mistake. LG needs to have that option with stock.

Do mention the reasons ..
I m using oneplus1 and confused if I should buy it or not?
I have it since Saturday. I'd recommend it to anyone who's in the market for a new phone for whatever reason they might have. For me, it offers the best overall package in the Android world right now. If you don't mind ugly OEM skins (I do), you could probably go with the S7 line or if you don't mind spending more cash, then the HTC10.

I always planned on get op3,but as my contract was up I got a HTC 10, very nice phone but didn't strike me as much of an upgrade on my two year old xeperia Z2. Got my op3 yesterday and is given me more of a buzz than the HTC, which is on ebay.
Personally I'd recommend it wholeheartedly, the only thing missing for me is SD support, and with Google breaking that in mm, I don't really see that as an issue anymore.
A solid 9/10 from me.
Absolutely. For the money, it's a great feeling, solid phone that really flows. If you want to spend a lot, the yea, buy a Samsung or an HTC. For near stock strong contender with excellent customisation ability, get OP3 - 9/10 (not perfect because of the memory issue and no SD slot)

I agree... but the RAM should be optimized further in future Oxygen builds? In my experience, the SD card has created issues when it becomes corrupt... and it won't be as fast as reading from internal memory (good rebuttal from OP). It would be easy to say they should have offered a 128GB model but I know they wanted to keep costs down as much as possible. I've found with the previous OP devices that 64GB is just enough for my requirements
One issue I have is it was great they made all the Kernel sources available... but not the Dash Charge?? wtf lol
Mine is still in the mail so I can't officially recommend it but based on all the reviews I've read so far it's very promising :highfive:

Proximity ambient display prob. and camera performance
How u guys are finding the proximity display hand waving waving feature in your OP3 ..in my case im finding not so smooth...means I have to wave my hand very closely to the device screen to lit it... is it the same with u guys or just waving hand over frm a distance is doing the thng for u..kindly reply and also give solutions on how can I improve on the same.
Camera performace I guess is pretty gud in OP3 ..ya focusing closer objects is an issue...(it takes some time) but i guess thts just a software glitch...which can be corrected via updates....rest the phone till now hasnt disappointed
without a doubt id recommend this thing to anyone. its even got dev support before most people have it in hand. thats about on par with the nexus phones.
Guys!! I'm totally blown away in the first hour here!!!! Amazing amazing! Not one single complaint... See screenshots and photos.. The device is completely bone stock. Just totally amazed so far. I was prepared to be extremely critical seeing how I'm a diehard HTC and Nexus fan but... But... well, the proof is in the photos lol. https://goo.gl/photos/RgwFUT3Rwhyt6XJL6
I've had it for two days. Pretty impressive. Nothing bad that I can think of. I give it solid 10 for it meets all my expectations.

Maybe a 7/10. The hardware is great for $400, but the stock software has weird bugs, like camera photos coming out green unless I use raw, and I've heard the customer service is a nightmare if you have to deal with them. At least the developer support is booming so far. CM and PA save the day again.

Yes sir! I've had almost every Android device on the market since I don't know when and this device has impressed me more than anyone I've had yet.. nothing about it that's wrong!! The camera is simply amazing, screen is great, size is perfect, feels great in the hand!!! And I'm comparing it with the 6p and HTC 10 both of which were/are my daily drivers! Time will tell on battery life and stability but so far I haven't found a single bug.
