SM-T813 ROM on SM-T819 - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have the LTE version of the 9.7" Tab S2 (2016). Samsung has finally stopped providing security updates for this device and ROMs are thin on the ground.
The non-LTE version has official Lineage support, is it possible to flash this on my device? Losing LTE functionality isn't an issue, so long as Wi-Fi functions as expected.
Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been asked before

If you modify the zip, you can flash it. But there are quite recent LOS builds for the T819 with anything still alive except incall sound. So LTE internet, Vibration, SMS... all fine.

Thank you I completely missed the ROMs in the original development section...doh! I have now flashed the latest ROM and after a bit of messing around with formatting partitions, I have the tablet running nicely in Pie

Wonderful, I received and rooted my tablet this WE and saw your release.
Installation is OK, no problem.
All works fine!
where can i download the T813 version ? gts210vewifi ?
thank you !
Magisk issue
Managed to successfully install this latest RR ROM version, things seem to run fine so far. Had to uninstall the previous 7.1.1 ROM version due to non functional fingerprint sensor, but things are running fine now. There was a temporary issue with Magisk not installed at the start, but installed the latest 13.3 version through TRWP 3.1.1-1 and is perfect now.
Thank you

I just dirty flashed update T713 from today! Good job, works perfectly.
Just flashed on T813. Works well and dirty flashed from other ROM. the only issue I had was that I was receiving a 'android-process-acore-has-stopped' error. I had to restore my contacts and contacts storage from titanium to fix. The updated twrp works better except you still can't back up when you have the encryption set up

After 2 days using on T813, all is working nice. No issue after a clean install
I can't believe nobody is developing for t719... Crying... Great device, no lineage os. Also t819
OTA upgrade
Wonderful work, thank you!
OTA update is not working!
Any idea?
Thanks!
New update working fine on 813 except issues with night mode not switching on and off as per customised schedule and can't find a setting that dims the screen Just before the screen turns off

I flashed it on my T713 yesterday and works great. Have T713 only for 2 days and was about to returned it. I mean great screen , great ergonomics, but it was so lagy. I had like 15 FPS in injustise 2 and it was unplayeble.
Coming from nvidia shield, i was disappointed. Then in last effort to keep tablet I flashed you rom and it is night and day. Whit your rom iam happy with my tab S2. I mean games run so mutch better and over all it is mutch smoother. Only down side is, fast charging dont work, but thas only thing i found and can live whit out.
So thank you , I can enjoy my new tablet
Been a while since I've had a look at ROMs but IIRC, the fast charging capacity is kernel related. I will see if I can find out what is wrong (can't promise anything though)

I agree. This ROM improved my T713 performance dramatically as well. Like I said, not guaranteed it will work. Last time I have modded stuff was back when Android was on version Jelly Bean... [emoji3]

Android 8.0 on the SM-T285

As many of you heard, android 8 has now been officially released. I will be working to get an AOSP version working on the 7" LTE tablet, I have heard that there may be significant HAL changes so it may take some time. I have just released the august update for the SM-T285, I've been also working to get a stable repo out for this device in the last couple of weeks. Anyway wish me luck.
Update 08/24/2017 - I was able to download the 8.0.0_r4 aosp sources and got it to compile the modified device tree. There seems to be significant changes with some HAL libraries, vendor specific libs are now moved to its own place in the system image. Will now proceed to actual testing and porting.

I won't be directly developing for the T280 sadly. There may be subtle differences at the kernel level and some components (e.g. GPS, touchscreen) which prevents ROMs for the T285 from working with the T280. However my work with the T285 should greatly speedup development for the T280 once the first custom ROMs arrive.

I remember some people tried on my CM/Lineage/Omni based roms on their T280 and it failed to boot, though I can't tell the method they used to flash those ROMs so it is possible that their methods are incorrect. As for stock ROMs this is new information for me if that is the case. I am unable to verify these as I don't have a T280, though if there is a dev who would like to try if would be nice.

my oreo build isn't usable at the moment, wifi doesn't work and you can't turn the screen back on after turning it off. Trying to figure out if this is a LineageOS issue or a hardware issue takes too much time, I'm waiting for the first official builds of Lineage OS to start rolling out before I spend more time on this.
Bacoor,
I've just bought a Galaxy Tab A6 LTE (SM-T285) and haven't rooted or done anything to an android phone in over 5 years. Feeling Green as hell! I'm back to being a newbie. Any suggestions you can offer to me on a guide and which TWRP and Android I should install on my phone. I'll need some tutorial help as I feel uneasy. Last Time I did rooting and custom roms was way back on the HTC Hero and then the HP Touchpad to Cyanogenmod.
Well with Oreo comes project treble which does in fact mess with the HAL libraries a lot. Maybe that means there is hope the Galaxy Tab A Line will get "Treble-ized".
Good news if we are.

I am still on Android 5.1.x rooted, and probably only version for T285 which every feature is tested working.
Intended to upgrade to Android 6 or 7, but there isn't any stable firmware which is bug-free (ie. GPS and video recording).
Not optimistic on 8.0 being bug-free when the 6 and 7 not fixed after such a long wait (months).

How Do I Test this ROM
I have a T285 and I want to test this rom where do I download it?

so no stable custom rom for note 5 SM-N920T ?

so i bought note 5 SM-N920T which was already on android 7 latest firmware according to sammobile website.
and there are only handful of custom roms (not stocked based but those which occur in original android development).
and all of them have serious issues,
like lineageOs 14.1 has no audio in call, battery drain issues, flash light issue, doesn't take images in dark somehow flash work when you take image but the end image is dark. etc.
and others also have similiar issues.
My requrements for a rom are following.
1. no matter stock based or not, it should have root and MUST SUPPORT ENCRYPTION after root (no matter if i have to flash any kernel or do any gymnastics, i am willing to do it to get to this requirement.
2. it should be fully stable, atleast all basic features should be stable like phone calling, sms, bluetooth, wifi, and others which are necessary for a daily life smart phone.
well that is all because i have xposed in my requirement but xposed is not available for 7 yet so leave it out.
now let see.
stock based custom roms (those i checked) does not support encryption after you root them, and if you encrypt them before rooting, then because their encryption method is such that TWRP don't mount data, so root is impossible after encryption, even i tried that magisk trick of cache workaround, it does not work. after i flash magisk to an encrypted rom, when i get to the point of entering password for encryption, rom says there has been some integrity issues with encryption and you can no longer decrypt, you have to reset the device to factory.
and if i root a stocked based rom before encrypting then they don't encrypt at all.
then there are custom roms like lineageOS. they support encryption with root and their encryption method is also supported in TWRP.
BUT
they are not stable to use as a daily driver.
so can anyone please tell me how can i achieve my requirement on note 5 SM-N920T ? any rom? any kernel / rom combinations ? anything?
or should i sell my note 5 and buy a better device?
thank you for your answers in advance.
Actually PurifyOS has an unofficial Xposed port that works just fine for the 920T, I've been using it for a month. When I flashed Lineage the flashlight and in-call audio worked just fine. Battery drain wasn't very noticeable, but every time the screen turned off while I listening to music my viper and Dolby apps stopped processing.
There's a very stable rom that has very close to stock battery drain, it's the Khongloi S8+ rom in this forum.
buy a better,newer device

i don't know how is that possible that i have many issues and you don't have them, i am on latest firmware / bootloader QG3 on my SM-N920T. and i flashed cleanly LineageOS 14.1 on it with or without root and without any kernel. still i have all the issues with flashlite, music app, camera dark images, mic not working in calls initiated by me and also on internet calls, and very high battery drain with only one app that is Conversations.
can you tell me which lineageOS version are you using? i am using 14.1 from following link.

have you tried it? does device encryption work with having a root?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-android-nougat-sdk-25-arm64-t3639221
There's the thread for xposed. If you have the latest firmware release from T-Mobile, I'm pretty sure Lineage won't flash over that bootloader. I had to roll back my bootloader to flash it, but Rayman fizzled the problems you were explaining in his second release for the 920T.
As for re-encrypting a device with root I have no never done it. I enjoy flashing roms and custom kernels so once I break encryption and DM-Verity on my devices I leave them that way. I'm pretty sure, don't quote me though, that with supersu you cannot restore encryption while you're rooted. I don't Magisk so you may want to look into that. Hope this helps bro.

Hi friends,
amazingly what you are done. After the last update from lenovo (20170824 or earlier) the sound of this tablet is very bad because dolby is shut down.
With you ROM and the thread of matshias, the lenovo LTE version now is fantastic. Extremely fast, super sound.
What I have done:
with minimal adb (see matshias Thread forum.xda-developers.com/thinkpad-tablet/general/beta-twrp-root-disable-encryption-yoga-t3538017) flased this custom ROM
after that flashed dolby atmos and open gapps (arm64, 7.1, nano)
- and voilà it's running very well - better than before!!! DRM Level is L1 so it should work with Amazon and Netflix (but can't test it)
Thank you again to all the involved guys

Hi, are there any known issues with the rom?
I installed LineageOS on my Tab 3 Plus LTE(experimental version) before. Unfortunately the cam (for skype), screen mirroring and the micro in whatsapp didn`t work. Thats why I uninstalled LOS and current I use stock.
Regards!
Both cameras and the microphone work for me. You did grant the apps access?
Yes, I did! But in LineageOS they didn`nt work
But now I jumped in at the deep end
I installed crDroid without waiting for an answer , of course backup before!
And now, wow, it works very fine. I can use all features, many thx to the author!!
Now crDroid and nova launcher, both are as couple, one of the the finest roms!
Thank you!
Thank you. Worked perfect here!
Thanks for the custom rom. Finally, my xbox one controller connects via bluetooth. Sometimes the connection breaks off.
Maybe you can find a solution.
I am grateful to you now.
Best regards

Hi Tribble, I meaned the data of previous version 3.83, can i restore them with twrp? If not, then only dirty flash and renew? Clear calvik and cache ok!

Dirty flashing does not clear data, only system.
That said - with a full backup you can always go back if something went wrong.
(Always have a good and tested backup, preferably stored outside your device!)

LineageOS 20 Official available?

Hi.
LineageOS 20 is now officially released, but I can't find it for Sony Xperia XZ1c.
Does anyone know where it can be downloaded?
Thanks
There isn't official Los 20 for the XZ1c, but you have the unofficial version by derfelot. It works the same as the official versions for other devices, the only differences being the lack of OTA updates and the time between updates varies. I think we're getting an update to the Los20 rom soon, since I see commits submitted in github.
Hi,
I've installed the previous unofficial version on my XZ1c, and am looking forward to the mentionned unofficial LOS20 update before I install it (I didn't see it was already available at the time I installed 19 in december). I have a question, not too silly I hope :
I've read on LineageOS website that if some developers have a running and reliable LOS version developed for a device that is not yet officially supported, they can submit their version so that then the version becomes "official" and one can get it from LOS website. Is it planned with this unofficial LOS version ? why / why not ?
Thanks
I think It's not official because the devs don't want to involve/don't have the time to become official maintainers, instead releasing updates less frequently. Basically It's a responsibility. That's what I think and personally I'm fine with the unofficial builds, these devs do a lot already.
So in theory, If someone has the skills/time to maintain this device officially, It could become one without an issue.
Let me ask another question (since this is new post):
Which of available ROMs suits You all best and why?
I Was on Havoc 4, then 5, Lineage 17, now I'm back to Havoc 3.11 but this one gets random freezes and battery heats up. Only issue I have with new releases is lack of Android Auto support.

Hi, I don't have an answer to your question since so far I've tested only lineage 19. But I'd like to ask you why you chose to go back to Havoc 3.11 even though it heats and freezes ? (Why not a more recent ?)
And what are the differences between Havoc and LOS in everyday use, what did you personnally notice / prefer ?

I think It's not official because the devs don't want to involve/don't have the time to become official maintainers, instead releasing updates less frequently. Basically It's a responsibility. That's what I think and personally I'm fine with the unofficial builds, these devs do a lot already.
So in theory, If someone has the skills/time to maintain this device officially, It could become one without an issue.

Ok, indeed it would add more work/responsibility to the developpers.

Hi,
I wanted to try and test Android Auto mostly to be honest.
As per differences - Havoc gives You way more options to customize whole phone (appearance), have more features (gestures, status bar, dock etc., you might even forget half of the settings after finishing configuring it), Lineage on the other hand I believe consumes less battery, appears to be quicker, is neat.
But I've tried either Havoc and Lineage on Android 12 and both works smooth. Testing Lineage 20 currently and can't say any bad word. But I'm kind of lucky with custom ROMs, never had any major issues, all worked fine always
