Unreliable Fingerprint sensor and VoLTE issues on Official Android Pie upgrade - LG V40 Questions & Answers

Wonder why is this not yet raised while all devices I have tested has the same critical issues of unreliable Fingerprint sensor and VoLTE as below:
1. Fingerprint sensor randomly stops responding for several seconds when an app or phone needs to authenticate. Sensor itself is working as other gesture controls work fine. However the authentication API sleeps for several seconds to a minute or till the device is put on sleep and woken up
2. Dual VoLTE and Dual 4G cripples while giving false ringing on Airtel and loosing VoLTE symbol and connectivity on Jio. While other phones randomly loose signals, V40 does this false ringing on Airtel while there is no incoming or outgoing call connectivity without giving any error
Both these issues affect all 3 devices tested and factory reset, etc. Doesn't help either. Phone was never rooted or custom firmware installed (as I don't find any useful here)
Appreciate if someone can suggest a possible fix as I love the phone and except for this and random lockup due to choked RAM (0.5GB or less physical RAM available most of the times while also consuming all the 2.8GB swap file)
Both these issues are observed on the latest Android 9 upgrade for India (released on August 1st). I can confirm that Fingerprint sensor never caused any issues before this upgrade on any device. Have tested on several devices and have replicated these issues on 3 of them simultaneously

I'm having the same issue with my fingerprint sensor. It's annoying, to say the least, especially when I'm trying to unlock my phone in a hurry. I have my device for 3 months now, and it only started happening two weeks ago. I haven't received any updates since December, so it can't be a new update that caused this.
I've also done a hardware test, and it shows the fingerprint sensor is working as it should. [emoji2370]

Thing is android will have worst performance and than what operating system it came with when released other than software issues. This is the reason why people will try and want to downgrade their operating system back to how it came with.

I am also facing Volte issue with airtel, I don't find any solution yet, So i have disabled Volte for my airtel connection. I have noticed this volte issue is only happening from last year October, Before it used to work..
I have also noticed fingerprint sensor issue and it is very random.

Ive had the finger print reader issue, but noticed it had to do with my cover I use.I have a complete shell type case, and over time it collects residue around the edges of the case around the sensor.Removing the phone from the case, and the sensor works fine, sometimes I may have to clean the sensor with a damp cloth.
With my slim fit case,I never have the issue.

I've noticed something a bit odd regarding the fingerprint sensor. After I make or receive a WhatsApp call, my fingerprint sensor usually stops working for a bit. I haven't really had issues for the past week or two, until I received a WhatsApp call. Immediately after the call, my fingerprint sensor didn't work, so I unlocked my device with face unlock. After that, it worked perfectly fine again. And a few weeks ago, I made quite a few calls on WhatsApp, which is when I had constant issues with my fingerprint sensor. I even reset my fingerprint authorization app, and cleared my fingerprints from the device, to help sort it out.
I know it might be a long shot, but is it possible that there's a bug that causes this, either from WhatsApp or on the LG firmware itself?
If anyone has more knowledge about this, your input would be highly appreciated!

Reduced fingerprint performance on 6.0.1 CPF1?

Not sure if this is an issue that only I suffer, but after the update to CPF1, my fingerprint sensor performance has become unusable.
Adding a fingerprint that normally takes less than 20 seconds now takes at least a minute, with a prompt to "Lift your finger off the home key" appearing and injecting a delay of several seconds before one is actually allowed to scan another part of your fingerprint.
Fingerprint unlock has also gone off a hill, fingerprints are now unrecognized unless the orientation is the same as the orientation when the scan occurred, and a multi-second delay is now present when a mis-scan occurs.
I noticed in the OTA update inf file, there was a line
Code:
apply_patch("/system/priv-app/FingerprintService2/oat/arm64/FingerprintService2.odex", "-", 2de08396342e1d053f9875c7e19b945385db7857, 418560, d5875cdae656c286edd962e0220ecd31f8b692bb, package_extract_file("patch/system/privapp/FingerprintService2/oat/arm64/FingerprintService2.odex.p"));
indicating that the fingerprint service had been updated, and I was wondering if anybody else is suffering from the same issues.
My fingerprint scanner is working perfectly fine, nice and fast and still haven't gotten an error.
Hello !
I'm not alone !! I thought my fingerprint sensor was broken...
I downgraded on 3DPDP (France firmware, before the newest from June 22th) and do a wipe data to see if it works again.
I have a S6 edge but Samsung has updated the service on all of their phones obviously

Fingerprint sensor stops working

Had my S8 plus for about a month now. Every 2-3 days or so, the fingerprint sensor stops working just randomly. Will work perfectly, then just out of nowhere, doesn't respond to anything. Disabling fingerprint security and re-enabling doesn't fix it. Trying to go into applications- system apps- fingerprints, and trying to force close it won't work as it's grayed out. The only thing that works to get it working again is a restart. Not the end of the world I know, but having to restart it at the most inopportune times is kind of annoying. And paying this much for what amounts to the top of the line phone on the market right now, and having one the most important functions just stop working all the time is crap. And no I don't want to use the iris scanner, or pin, or pattern security. I want to use the fingerprint sensor.
Searches around the web indicate this is pretty common. Anyone else on the VZW S8 or plus having this issue? Anyone know if a fix is coming down the pipeline? I'm pretty sure this would be a software issue as it works 85% of the time and a simple restart gets it working again.

Some other threads on XDA have said that disabling fingerprint scanner gestures fixes it. I haven't ever used those and I have never had a problem with the sensor. It isn't as good as the sensor on my Moto Z Force Droid was, but it is pretty good.

Yeah, I disabled that last night. Waiting to see if that works or not. Just thought I would post in the Verizon specific forum to see if any other Verizon users are having this issue. Pretty sure it's a software issue, and am just curious about differences between the Verizon software and other carrier specific software.
Always had the gestures disabled and I have noticed this, but it always goes away with time for me. I thought it was just because I was sweaty at the gym, but it doesn't even know that I am attempting to use the scanner. Then, it happened outside the gym. Goes away in just a couple minutes, thought it was just me.
It seems that the fingerprint scanner is more reliable when the screen is off than it is when the lockscreen is on looking for iris scan.

Note8 Sensors error - Any of you faced with?

I have Note8. It has a very strange sensors error, as below:
- All sensors, from proximity sensor, light sensor, to GPS, iris scanner, and all the other sensors do not work at all.
- In the app like Phone INFO Samsung, CPU-Z or AIDA64, in the Sensors section, all sensors do not work.
- The Auto Brightness function does not work (due to the light sensor), the brightness of the AOD screen is also not adjustable.
- When making a phone call and move the phone close to the ear, the screen does not turn off due to proximity sensor.
- Auto Rotation function is not working (due to rotation sensor).
- Google Maps shows inaccurate location. Other apps that rely on GPS (such as the speedometer app) are completely not working.
- The iris scanner function does not work either.
It was about two weeks ago. I've Wiped the cache, restart the phone but does not make sense.
Yesterday it suddenly returned to normal, I don't know why.
But today - while I'm typing this post - all sensors suddenly do not work again.
Any idea about the error and how to fix it?
Thank you guys
Best advice I can think of is to factory reset and see if that alleviates the problem.
If you did not do anything firmware-related, or you did not drop or submeged your device, the best you can do is to make a warranty claim, pure and simple, if you have no way to make such claim, well, next time you should consider getting a device from an official source
I've read other users have had same problem. Ones I read said it was motherboard issue had to have sammy replace it.
Thank you guys
There is also built-in sensor test. Open dialer and dial *#0*#
I noticed a problem when I was playing Asphalt (racing game on me Note 8). I am unable to use the Tilt controls to move the scar.
Testing out the Sensors using *#0*# at the dialer revealed that all the SENSORS was faulty.
I reset the whole phone just now. The issue is still there with the sensor. As expected Auto rotation doesn't work.
Running the latest version 8.0.
I recently changed my motherboard (under warranty) 3 months back cos something was faulty. Seems it may be another motherboard issue.
Anyone else in this thread solved the issue?
Hey everyone I'm facing the same problem. All sensors stoped working but they were working before on 7.1.1 and i updated my device to oreo and realized all sensors stoped
Then i got another updated for about 900mb i thought maybe this update will fix them and also that update said tha after updating the user cannot downgrade to nougat but after updating the problem still exsist. Please if anyone can help i also try to flash same oreo firmware with odin but doesn't fixed the sensors

All (almost) sensors stop working

Hi everyone,
Almost all sensors stoped working after few days on my brand new Pixel 5 :
Failing sensors :
- Proximity sensor
- Accelerometer
- Gyroscope
- Compas
And maybe others I don't know of...
Fingerprint & cameras are still working.
I've contacted Google support, and they advise me to clean my screen :-/
I'll try a factory reset today before asking for a replacement unit, but my hope is low...
Anyone facing the same issue ?
Any advise ?
Edit :
After a factory reset : same situation
Same here. Had phone for about ten days. All seemed to work. Then thinks went weird over several days. First thing I noticed when going to hang up a call I was no longer presented with phone dialler screen. During calls phone was also spontaneously switching to handsfree. I suspect this was wall tilt related. Then camera images were in incorrect orientation. Google photos not longer rotating images and so on. Installed a sensor app and it reported gyroscope as missing. Clean booted - no change. Factory Reset and still no change. Arranged for an exchange with Google. While waiting for that to pan out, after about a day the gyroscope has come back to life. Although presently reporting no compass. Doe the P5 have a compass?
Anyhow given it working again now I am wondering if some power saving activity is killing the Gyroscope? Waht was the out come with your sensor failure. Did they recover or did you need to exchange?

I tried a random app from the store : Sensor Test with my bad unit and it reported 0 sensor !
I've exchanged my P5 and now the same app reports 30 sensors.
While waiting for the exchange , mine never came back to life : can't rotate, screen stayed on during calls (and auto brightness not working), compass was not working in Maps...
Also on the faulty unit I noticed that the OTA update tooks ages (30 minutes or so, for a ~30MB update). On the new unit, the same uptate took just a normal reboot time.
Thankyou for the update.
While mine has a working gyroscope (at the moment) the proximity sensor is still borked and the screen stays on during calls. I just installed the Sensor Test app and it says I have 16 sensors!
30 for me
Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
30 sensors also for me.
Oh my god yes exactly this happened to my phone since yesterday. No auto rotation, no auto brightness, no tap2wake.
I have to send mine back, I hate it. Sensor app does not recognize a single sensor. Factory reset didn't help either
When rebooting like 10 times it changes between 0, 1 and 16 sensors.
I factory reset my phone again and that made it worse. Has gone from 16 to 0 on Sensors Test!
Has lost screen rotation again.

At this point, you should contact Google Support and ask for an exchange.
Like my old one, I doubt this is a software issue...
I hope my new one does not have this flaw.... but this definitely hurt my confidence in P5 devices....
Sounds like issue with corrupt persist partition caused by update gone wrong.

Indeed ! I didn't know about this.
But it seems that the solution is to root the device, and this void the warranty (Google asked me if it was rooted before the exchange).
Weird. It did not happen to mine right after an update, more like 20 days later. Btw Google did not ask me if I rooted the device, which I haven't, but I did unlock the Bootloader for a short period of time to use the android flash tool from Google.
I'm not very familiar with partitions on android but all I can say is that a newly flashed stock firmware from Google itself did not help me
All my sensors work according to that app - it shows 30 sensors every time I launch it - except the proximity sensor sometimes does not actually work right. I was noticing an issue because KinScreen would think my proximity sensor was covered and would turn the screen off because the proximity sensor looked to be covered when it was not, even though the app should have kept the screen on. I downloaded multiple sensor testing apps and the proximity sensor works most of the time but sometimes it does not. Weird. Not sure if I should exchange the phone, I got this with AT&T.

Took a couple of weeks, but I now have a replacement unit. 30 sensors showing and all working properly now. I took it for granted how reliant these devices are on having sensors working for basic things like the phone to work properly. Glad I found this thread and was able to get it sorted out. thanks for the help.
I had to get a replacement PIxel 5 through AT&T for the broken proximity sensor. This one works fine.
Couple of weeks?
I got a new device within 4 days where 3 days were for shipping
Just out of curiosity, am I the only one Google asked if I have rooted my device before sending it back ?
They asked me 5 questions for the warranty (I live in France/EU btw):
- Has the device been impacted, or is the screen damaged?
- Has the device come into contact with liquid?
- Has the device been in contact with a heat source?
- Has the device been rooted?
- Has the device been repaired by unauthorized personnel?

I started an RMA process on their website and no I'm not 100% sure about the other stuff but I'm sure they didn't ask if I was rooted.
Germany
I see where Google announced that a fix in the December update could possibly fix the sensor issue for some. I'm guessing you guys got the update and it didn't work huh.
idk I got a new device in december

After a year i finally fixed the proximity sensor problem in the OnePlus 7 Pro

so in short this problem has plagued the phone since day one and i suspected a HW issue since nothing fixed it. for those who dont know whats im talking about, you are lucky. the issue is basically that the proximity sensor is missed up so the screen will light up when you are in a call or listening to Whatsapp/Telegram voice messages.
The Solution:
The problem, turned out, was caused by the factory screen protector that came already applied to the phone. i removed it after it was damaged and also removed the case (Spigen Rugged Armor Case), cleaned the phone and VIOLA its working perfectly fine now...
i hope it works for everyone else.
So, what you are saying is:
Since when this phone got launched in May 2019, not a single user facing the proximity sensor issue had the ingenious idea to remove their factory applied screen protector and you are the first one to come up with this "fix"?
I am really sorry to be this discouraging but: This ain't it chief.
Good that it fixed your perception of the issue though
Comrade, the issue is far graver than that. OnePlus 7Pro does not have a proximity sensor per se. It uses software (an ai I think) to "guess" whether to turn on the screen or not which is why listening to voice notes gets crazy...

Even though it does have an infrared sensor under the screen (that has been proven), i agree with you that it seems to be using something like that.. Curiously, the proximity sensor once fired when i flicked off my lights in my room.. This indeed leads me to believe there is more going on than just a simple infrared proximity sensor..
But yeah, i don't think removing the stock screen protector "fixes" the thing.. It may improve things but i doubt it's a fix.. As i said, this phone has been out for a while and people would have noticed if removing the screen protector fixes the proximity sensor for good..So yeah, cheers mate.
I took the screen protector off before I turned the phone on for the first time. I still get the screen lighting up while I'm on a call, often muting it with my cheek.
I must be lucky but at the moment I have no such issue with my new OP7P (MFD: 2019/05). RR Rom. Still have the screen protector on it. What's the MFD of your unit ?
i have problem with my oneplus since i rooted this phone
after root i have installed pixel expereince rom
when i called i found proximity sensor not working
now almost 6 months no fixed i'm stock oos
please help me there is no guard on my phone also no cover
The simplest solution for me has been to use a Bluetooth headset. I rarely use it without it.
