Silence phone using calendar events - Realme X2 Pro Questions & Answers

Just bought this phone. All works well, but I miss one thing: a do not disturb (phone silencing) option. The phone does have 'quiet time' but as far as I could figure out this does not allow creating rules to silence the phone when you are in a meeting as scheduled in your calendar. I am now trying the Polite app. Hope that works. I think that Realme should include this in its ROMS. I had it on all my other phones.

Application recommendations (Calendar, email, notifications)

Hello,
I've just recently switched from a Windows Mobile phone to the Hero, and there are a few features I miss from my old phone. I'm hoping that someone can recommend some apps to fill the gap; I've looked around on the forum and not yet found anything that seems like it would do what I want.
Calendar:
The calendar app that comes with the phone works great for everything except one simple feature - it displays all events on the monthly view with the same icon. My old phone used to have different icons for events in the morning, afternoon or 'all day'. This made it a lot easier to tell them apart at a glance. Edit: You also can't flick the screen to the side to scroll through days.
Mail:
This is just a minor annoyance. You can't swap between emails or email accounts by flicking the screen to the side.
Notifications:
If I've missed a call, received a text message or something of that sort, I'd like the phone to vibrate every 5 minutes until I acknowledge that I missed something. Currently all I can find is making the track ball glow, which isn't terribly useful if the phone is in my pocket.
If anyone can recommend some programs to fix those issues, that'd be great. (By the way, I'm using the Modaco custom ROM v2.2) Thanks!
Steve
For text notifications, grab SMS Popup from the Market. Brilliant little app imo
For the calendar get Pure Grid Calendar and turn on the Timeline option in settings

Missed call can repeat notifications for missed calls and texts. You can also set the vibration pattern.
For notifications, I use Missed Call. Seems to work well for missed calls and SMS messages which is all I need it for.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I tried SMS popup and it worked fine for texts, but as expected, it didn't do anything for missed calls. I've now installed Missed Call; I'll see how well it works tomorrow.

As for Pure Grid Calendar, that looks good. However it's a paid app; does it work well? The reviews generally were positive, but I'm paranoid about paying for something that doesn't work quite how I'd like it. In particular I forgot to mention that I need it to sync with Google Calendar - the guy's website suggests it does in some of the comments but doesn't specifically say so. Do you know if that's definitely the case?
Thanks again guys.
Pure Grid Calendar and it's cousin Pure Calendar are paid apps but you do get to use them for about 24 hours for free. If you then install you get a refund. My understanding is that this happens for all paid apps but perhaps someone who knows more about market can confirm.
As to syncing with Google calendar, again my understanding is that it is the device itself that syncs. In each calendar app, including HTC calendar, you just choose which calendars you want that app to display. The pure calendars are the same.
Personally I use Pure Calendar rather than the grid as it shows an agenda style widget in a 4x2 format.

I read that somewhere else as well, and then went to check the Market. That's indeed what the Google Terms of Service said; you can get a refund within 24 hours as long as you haven't tried downloading the program before.

Ah, that does make sense. That way each designer doesn't have to program their own syncing code.

I actually tried the Pure Grid Calendar yesterday, and I'm happy with it. I particularly like how it brings up a pop-up of the day's events if you tap a day.
I'll have a look at the Pure non-grid Calendar as well later, as I can't access the market from where I am at the moment. I assume its advantage over the basic Android calendar widget is that it displays multiple days?
Thanks to you both for your help.
Recurring Events
I am new to Android from WinMo as well. I am having trouble with recurring events. I work a rotating (2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off; I KNOW!!! ) schedule for 2 wks with one workgroup then repeating for two weeks with another workgoup, then starting over.
This was not a problem with the calendar in my WinMo Tilt. I could "program" my work schedule in my phone and look out as far as I wanted to. I miss my calendar!
Am I missing something, or is the android calendar completely lacking in this area? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Notification Issues (MLB At Bat & CNN)

Hi. Long time iPhone user but new to Android as of two weeks ago. Bought the HTC One (AT&T) and am loving it so far.
However, I have been having issues concerning notifications through a couple apps. Specifically the MLB At Bat app and the CNN app. Let me start by saying that I have received notifications without issue when it comes to email, texts, and Facebook.
Now, with At Bat, I have notifications set up in the settings for the app (specifically for my favorite baseball team), and I technically do get notifications. What I mean by that is, if I happen to turn on my phone, I will see that a notification previously came in. However, I do not receive any audio or vibration feedback to accompany the notification. So, the phone doesn't actually alert me. The same case is true with the CNN app. In the settings for the app, I have set up to receive notifications for breaking news. Again, I technically get the notifications sent to my phone, so they will be there when I happen to check the phone for whatever reason. But when the notification is sent, I am not alerted in any way (no tone or vibration).
As I said before, I get notifications (accompanied with audio tone and vibration) without issue when it comes to emails, texts, and Facebook. I have scowered the system settings and the settings on the individual apps but everything appears to be in order. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you fine folks can provide.
edit: Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, but nothing has changed.

[Q] Any way to make Google Now Reminders more noticeable?

Right now, when I asked my phone to set a reminder for X at X time, it adds it to the Reminders section of Google Now. If the reminder is far away, I won't even see it on my phone unless I click the Reminders button at the bottom of Google Now.
Is there any way to make these reminders more obvious or more persistent?
For ex, if I add an event to my calendar, I can view my calendar events for the next X weeks with my Chronus clock widget right on my homescreen. Is there anyway to have my reminders show up on this widget too?
There's probably a better solution than this, but Google Keep widget displays reminders. You would set the reminder in keep rather than Gnow, but Gnow will still detect the reminder

Similar issue
Hi, I have a similar issue: the reminders are not persistent and intrusive enough. My phone may often bee a room away. When it rings, I'll hear, for sure, and most major Calendar/sms/email reminders too, but, the Google Now reminders are sort of "humble", "quiet", very much gentle and in the background. Also, they are not persistent. They will go off, and, if I'm not near the phone, they'll simply go away after a while. This makes it very unreliable, while I believe Google Now could be an amazing tool! Any way to make the reminders keep nagging with noise until you actually click "quiet" or "postpone"?

Use Tasker to create custom notification sound in Samsungs Messaging app (S9+)

Hello forum. In the Oreo update for some reason the ability to use custom notification sounds for specific contacts was removed. Samsung blames it on Google and vice versa. Theres a 150+ page thread at Samsungs community site about it. Ive contacted them myself and they blamed Oreo. Anyway this use to be as simple as going to the contact and setting the notification sound you wanted for that persons texts. You can still set ringtones, but not texts anymore using Samsungs messaging app. I know there are 3rd party apps that do this, and you can set them per thread in Googles stock messaging app, but I prefer the Samsung messaging app.
Similarly Google removed being able to set custom notification sounds per label in the Gmail app. But after getting Tasker I got some help to make this work with Tasker and the plugin Notification Listener. So I was thinking there might be a way to use Tasker to have Samsungs messaging app notify me with a custom sound for a specific contact. I tried to figure this out myself and couldnt. So I am hoping someone can help me out with this, of course assuming its possible. Thanks
Take a look at the Tasker wiki SMS Notification Management entry.

Use in profile the state of unread text and within that you can add in a contact.
In the task you can use if the above profile active then play sound, I use a custom vibrate pattern also.
This is what I use and it works well.

Google SMS - no audio notifications on always-on screen

The subject says it all -- I run Google Messages for SMS because I use messages.android.com pretty regularly. However, it doesn't play audio notifications in the always-on screen -- it vibrates and shows the icon. I've been through every setting I can find. It plays notifications if the screen is fully on.
I did use the LG app to move from a G6 to the V40, but I did a "clear data" on the Messages program afterwards since it had my contact/message history all mixed up. (Thought it was interesting that it was able to restore some of the messages after clearing -- I suppose T-Mobile has a certain amount of history stored.)
I've thought about asking in the Google product forums but support quality over there is dismal, at best.
I've had the same/similar experience and I'll clarify.
When the screen open and I'm already texting "in that thread" there is no sound, but it does vibrate.
However, it will audio a notification and vibrate if a text comes in on another thread.
BTW: I'm using Message+ through Verizon ... so we seem to be experiencing similar situations using different texting apps.
It behaves the same way when e-mailing. If I've got an e-mail thread open and another email comes into that thread, then it'll only vibrate, however, it'll make an audible sound and vibrate if it's a new e-mail or part of another e-mail thread.
Don't know why and can't find a solution. I don't care when it's a text-message as I see the screen move when the new text come in the thread I'm reading/typing in, yet it is an issue in e-mails as e-mails tend to be longer form and I forget to check for new replies in the thread I'm working in and have missed an e-mail or two.
A second part of this is that there's no visual notification in the Notification Bar if a text or e-mail comes in while I was in that thread ... again, not an issue with texts as I see the text-screen move with each newly received text, but it is a big deal with e-mails.
Being honest ... this isn't turning into the phone I hoped it would be. There's a lot of wonky things that are more disruptive than helpful. I've been offered $550 dollars and a great set of ear-bud to trade this phone in for the Galaxy S10 ... although it's as locked down as any new phone could/would be, I can get that deal directly from Samsung and get an "Unlocked" version so I wouldn't be handcuffed to Verizon anymore.
I'm SERIOUSLY considering it.

I agree with you on all that. I was super pumped about this phone and 3 months down the road it has been nothing but a HUGE disappointment. I've been asking $550 as well to get rid of it and go back to Samsung but no luck. Never going to LG again.
