Update to Android 12 and dual apps not working - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hi all, Ive been running dual apps on my mi8 for some time now, specifically Nova Empire. On Saturday the Android 10 update dropped and was installed.
When I went to play Nova, i was able to login to the primary app but with the clone app it wouldn't get past the splash screen. I tried to uninstall the clone via various methods, I uninstalled the game completely and reinstalled then tried to setup the dual app with the same results. I tried to run it in Second Space but still couldn't get past the splash screen. I tried to repair permissions as googling suggested that could be an issue with MiUi and clone apps.
I then tried the drastic step to reset my phone and start again! installed Nova and setup the clone app. I still have the same problem. Again tried to setup Second Space but can't get past the splash screen.
The primary app works fine so I can still play the game, ive tried other apps on both dual apps and second space and they work fine so the issue seems to be with Nova.
Does anybody have any ideas please?

Hi, I am using MIUI 12 eu on Ginkgo, and dual apps gaming not working properly. I played Pokemon Go on dual apps and the graphic is stuck.
Have you found any solution yet? If yes please share.

check the respective game/app folder inside android/data and obb inside 'storage for dual apps'. most likely no files are created inside this folder. so copy everything from the original folder (internal shared storage) to here.

[Q] CM7 market does not show "My Apps" (fixed)

i have this weird problem:
first, i'm running CM7 from a verygreen's SD card
it was running fine but i had some force closes so i resintalled from the begining (reflashed verygreens image), then installed CM7.0.2, installed gapps, and when the market was downloading all of my apps, my system crashed down, and had to reboot.
After that, i havent been able to see my free apps in the "My Apps" tab of the market, i can see my paid apps.
tried to reflash again verygreens image to delete everything, upgraded to n59, still, only see my paid apps. tried restore them with titanium, and they restore, but the "Attach to market" option does not work for me
when i log to the web market, it shows that all my apps (free and paid) as if they were already installed
has anyone else seen this behaviour? any idea?
thanks

Not really, but you might try this... Install and run Appbrain, sync up with it, etc.. then go into the Market app.
When I was messing with ROMs a while back with apps already on my SD ext partition they'd show up to run but not in the Market, but running Appbrain always "attached" them for me. Did it several times.
Using CM7, I was experiencing the same issue, but any new app I downloaded, free or paid, would then show up in the market. I wasn't too concerned, as I only had 5 free apps from the market. Amazon Market, which is where most of my apps are, showed all without an issue.

thanks a lot, this attached all my restored apps (with TitatiumB) to the market again.
missing apps still fail to be re-downloaded, but not a problem since i have a full backup of my apps, just have to restore them and reattach with appbrain

[Q] home button and "swipe from the top" has disappeared

Hi everyone,
My home button and the "swipe from the top" has disappeared since my last restart. I really have no idea what's happened and now I am using the apps called "Button Savior" to return the home screen.Maybe thid was because I have deleted some system files from system/data/data/com.android. providers.settings. I have restarted several times and it didn't work for my device. Now its really inconvenient to use the Kindle Fire HD. My current software version is 7.1.13. Could you guys help me to solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance.
maybe pull the rom in the development section and see if you can get the deleted files from it?
the only time my framework dissapeared was when i was trying to install the play store. i got it back by renaming a couple google framework apk's in the system folder and restarting...
Hi adiliyo,
How can I pull the Rom in the development section? As I have deleted many system files, I think I am in a much bigger trouble than yours.

if you can't get the individual files, maybe reflashing that rom will fix your problems
This happened to me, and some other folks. Look for a thread asking about how to view/run settings.
Anyway, some fixes mentioned were to turn off notifications for Gmail - hard to do if you can't get to settings, though.
What worked for me was to try and side-load an application - copy an APK file to the 'downloads' folder on your KFHD via a connected computer using the windows file explorer, or ADB - and then install the APK. In my case by clicking on it using a file manager. The KFHD told me that I would have to enable foreign application installs to finish the install of the side-loaded APK, and took me to that portion of settings that dealt with that. In that section was the 'Reset to Factory Defaults' button.
I pressed the reset button, and got everything back. Earlier applications (google play store) that I hadn't un-installed in an attempt to fix the problem were still there. Super User was intact. I downloaded & installed everything again, and all is working as it should be.
Until Amazon comes clean with this walking ad-server, details on how to modify it without introducing issues are going to be sketchy . It's just our lot in life, if you'll pardon. I appreciate having super user access, and all the Google apps I love to use, but what's really required is the ability to modify the boot loader. Until that's available, it's going to be try until it fails, and then scramble to recover.
Nice HW, but limited by Amazon's vision of the customers.

It works!!!! all the missing parts have come back. the Go launcher EX has saved in Cloud.
solution
download an app called my android, open the app go to my apps and find the settings app then go to device and then go to factory reset. its the only way I found to access settings when drop down didn't work. after resetting to factory my buttons all came back after doing the tooltip for startup
What worked for me on my AF tablet was to uninstall all 4 Google APK files, then uninstall the Launcher Hijack. The tablet swipe down and home button both came back for me. I then re-installed the Google APKs, but didn't re-install Launcher Hijack. Tablet works fine, functions are normal, just have to put up with seeing the default Amazon screen first before tapping the Nova Launcher icon to get to my custom screen, a minor inconvenience, and I didn't have to do a factory reset.

Can't Install (Not working) Sygic Aura GPS

Hi,
I'm running Slim Bean 4.2.2 Rom and can't get Sygic GPS Navigation and Maps (Aura) to install properly on my I9000.
Starting from a fresh installation of the Rom, I download Sygic from the Play Store. The download and installation appears to be successful. On first run, I do not see any notification of the customary "Downloading resources..." shown when Sygic further downloads base maps and other files. Instead, I get a black screen for some seconds and then Sygic exits and then returns to the home screen. I have tried this multiple times, each time wiping my phone and factory resetting before reinstallating Sygic but I always get the same failure. For some reason, the Sygic folder is not created either on the internal or external SDcard during installation.
Sygic support suggested that my phone is too old to run the app, which is unlikely as my friends are using the same phone and running Sygic without any problem. They further suggested that the problem is related to the fact I am not running a stock Rom.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I think a very obvious clue is that something is preventing Sygic from creating the Sygic folder during installation.
Thanks.

SlimKat ROM issues; Bluetooth, GApps. What could be wrong?

I am having two weird issues on my Bionic with SlimKat.
I am coming from an old ICARIUS rom, and I have not switched ROMs in about a year (busy / laziness).
I am using rom slot 1 on safestrap.
1. Bluetooth constantly crashes.
2. Cannot install some apps from the Play store. For example, mybackup pro. I get an error that says "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card"
If anyone can help point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Interestingly, I got it all working. Even though I had done this twice already.
I just cleared caches, wiped data, system, reinstalled. 3rd times a charm?
seeya again in 4 years
Hehe, I was using ICARUS before I moved to CM10.1. I tried SlimKat for 2 months, but now I found myself happier with CM11.
About your Bluetooth, I think you're running out of memory. Bluetooth share takes up like 40-50 MB of memory, and if Android decides to start killing off some apps that's one of the apps they can kill. Weird, I know.
Don't know about your Playstore problem. I personally use Xposed module to override the Kitkat SD read/write changes (forgot the exact name) but that's just me.

Restoring apps and file managers' permissions with Titanium Backup

Hey guys,
I finally have time to set up my Pixel 4 XL. I'm coming from a 2 XL (still on Pie) and backed up/restored my apps with Titanium Backup (which I've always done). Of course, both phones have a working root access.
Now I'm facing a huge problem on Android 10 on my 4 XL: no file manager works. They ask for storage permission at the bottom of the screen but it does nothing when I tap it. I checked in the settings and the permission is granted but the app won't scan my internal storage (it says access is denied).
I also have many apps that don't work and are asking to be reinstalled. Is this normal? What's going on here?? I'm already fed up with Android 10 tbh!
If anyone has had the same problems, please chime in!
Thanks.

I haven't had this problem and still use TiBu all the time. Normally I use Solid Explorer to create a single zip-file of my entire TiBu folder on the source phone. I use Root Explorer, too.
First of all, Google's backup has come a very long way and (IMO) it should always be allowed to completely finish restoring your phone. You didn't mention whether you used this option when you first fired up the P4XL, as the option only comes around one time. If you chose to setup from scratch (not using a very recent Google backup from your P2XL, opting instead to "shortcut" by using TiBu) this could be the issue. Wipe the phone, allow GB to do it's thing restoring not only your backup but also ALL of your Store apps. Everything. I even reboot and try to squeeze out a couple more updates from the Store. Then I extract my TiBu zip-file, re-creating the same TiBu folder I had on the source phone. Once the app has root and recognizes the backup folder, do a selective install for ONLY MISSING APPS (the first option). This way you don't inadvertently overwrite a system app, system settings or carry over something old from a previous OS version. At this time you may also want to de-select any old apps you haven't used or don't plan to use going forward, before you hit the restore button.
A pro-tip would be to backup your source phone launcher config in the cloud or offline before starting (I use Nova stored on GDrive). After GB and TiBu have restored everything, I use the Nova backup to restore all my shortcuts and widgets. This method is consistent and mostly error-free for me... YMMV. Best of luck and enjoy your new phone! :good:

Yeah, I didn't choose the Google backup when I first turned on the P4XL (I don't have a cloud backup, I turned it off on my 2XL because I don't have much space left on my GDrive). I do back up my Nova home screen on my GDrive though.
I did use the "missing apps" setting in TiBu, as I know restoring system apps between different versions of Android is a big no-no. Several apps would FC after doing that though. I ended up reinstalling these from the Play Store (luckily, they weren't any "critical" apps for me). I exported settings for the ones that had the option from my P2XL and imported these on the P4XL. It was a long process but, in the end, everything seems to work now!
Thanks for your step by step guide, it might come in handy at some point
