As a type 1 diabetic, I use the dexcom g6 along with my insulin pump to manage things. I've been using an s7 edge for years now and it's been a great experience. The phone finally crapped out and I decided on the pixel 4 xl. Love this phone. What I don't love is that the dexcom app doesn't work for it. I saw another thread about modification to the app itself to get it to be functional and rooted the phone in preparation. I'm stumped about the proper steps to modifying an app to work with this phone though. Would anyone care to assist in my project to get my Dexcom app for working with this pixel 4XL? It would be greatly appreciated.

You should contact the developers to update the app. I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible if they listed the 3 older Pixel phones. It's really deceiving that the Play Store listing let's you install the app yet says not compatible when you open it.

The problem isn't the Pixel 4XL. The problem is the app will not work with android 10.0. My wife uses this app also. She was using it on the Pixel 2. As soon as it was updated from Android 9.0 to 10.0 the app just wouldn't work. We both have Pixel 4 XL's now. She kept her Pixel 2 and downgraded it to 9.0 just so she could run the dexcom app. I've emailed the developers about updating it to be compatible with 10.0 but I've only received a generic response that they will in the near future. That was almost 5 months ago.
I see the thread you are referring to and that is not a modification to the app/apk. This is simply a hack to modify the build.prop file on your device to make the app think it is a different (older device), and some fixes to a file the app uses probably to restrict running on what they deem incompatible devices. If you follow the instructions on the thread, it sounds like you should be able to get this working.
You do not edit the apk, you need to edit the build.prop on your device (use something like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.buildpropeditor). Reboot after so it becomes active. Then install the app using a file explorer and selecting the apk. Next you will need to copy the xml file that is modified where he mentions, and rename it. That is it...

I know this is probably a dead thread, but for anyone who finds it while googling for pixel 4 dexcom, you can make your own modded version that skips the Android version check, as well as some other cool features, here https://www.reddit.com/r/diabetes/comments/fqvmng/oc_build_your_own_dexcom_app_update_base_version/

What does everyone think? 4" may be the sweet spot between big screen size and too big. I don't know how I feel about even less physical buttons though as I already think it is the stupidest thing ever to not have dedicated send/end, but that is just me.
Not while they've skinned Android and replaced some Google integration with Yahoo integration.
No led flash? Are you f*cking kidding me?
I like the S-AMOLED and the proper multi-touch screen. However, having used the N1, I feel that it's just about as large a smartphone as I'd like to have in my pocket.
Not having to jump through as many hoops to get it customized, rooted, unlocked, etc. is also a nice thing about being on the N1.
Why would I want that when I have an N1?

If it gets rooted and with a stock rom i'm going for it. Samsung makes great hardware. The software sucks big time.

+10. Updates will be non existent, samsung expects you to buy a new phone if you want to update, screw that. I'll stay with nexus one.

Yeah I'm with you I'll wait for the new Nexus One every phone on T-Mobile that's made by HTC and only has stock Android is the phone Google uses for the next year. Thanks to Froyo the Nexus One has been the best Android phone until at least August when the Droid X gets 2.2 and gets a speed boost. Also you know that the Galaxy S will not get to use the free tethering that people with the Nexus enjoy. So to the original question NOPE

If it is rooted why couldn't you use wireless tether? Wow I did not think everyone would be so against it. Its already rooted though I thought.

If I upgrade phones from my Nexus One its going to be for these features:
- Vanilla android
- 4.3' screen
- Can use the same $50/mo even more plus T-mobile voice + data
I'm more than happy to play the waiting game with my Nexus One until this phone comes out...
If the guys at Samsung weren't so cheap to cut corners and actually included an led flash I might have considered the GalaxyS... but I can't support such obvious penny pinching cost cutting by Samsung
I love its GPU power and the Super-AMOLED, but for me to go from the N1 I need :
dualcore

stock android

I don't expect that for another 6 months or so, so I'll be keeping my Nexus One until then
The Galaxy S is also plasticky and ugly

Just picked up a 16GB Nexus 7 from Staples in Canada and I find some odd things are going on with my device. All of the Development options were ticked when I booted it up, Gapps are not installed, it is running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, the model number shows "ME370T" (The cancelled Asus tablet that became the Nexus 7) and in the app drawer there is just a strange list of unknown (to me) debugging applications. I will attach a photo. The tablet was sealed in the box and is still covered by protective film.

Anyone have any explanations for this? It's very strange to me. I'm not sure if I should take it back or not, but i'd like to get some details if anyone knows anything.
You're not the only one:

I wonder if this could be of some use for the devs then. I can easily take it back and swap it for another Nexus 7, but if there could be something useful on the device, i'd rather sell it to someone in the know. Private message me if anyone is interested in this unit.
Is it the same hardware? Thanks

Yes it seems to be the same hardware yet I can't find anything out really. I really don't feel like modifying it in any way right now, even though I am experienced with Android.

couldn't you do a back up and give devs access to that? and go ahead and return the device. idk maybe that won't work

The thing is it doesn't recognize as a Nexus 7 when connected to my PC. It shows it as an ME370T so the Nexus 7 Toolkit will not back it up or root it.
Wow. Does ICS at least run well

No nothing really works, even the camera does not function...
Well you could go out of your way to get the stock jb running on it, assuming it has all the same hardware, it should work just fine. But I really wouldn't bother and just take it back.
Maybe hook it up to adb and do a full backup for reference, just in case.
I bet someone bought a nexus 7 and returned to the store what you have now. Many asshats with xbox360's that had been banned were doing something similar. They buy a new xbox360, do a 'gut swap' with their banned unit and then return the thing to the store.
Rob
No it was a sealed unit
Make a full backup with a adb before you return it though. Contents could be interesting.

If it doesn't have any of the known issues just keep it and reimage with official stock.
Can you please make a full dump of the system and upload somewhere, I would love to get my hands on that Android build
Put it on eBay, you might make some profit

The "special apps" are standard engineering build (=dev/debug) apps.
For one they are present on all emulators that come with the Android SDK and they are build with and included in when you build an Android from sources as "engineering build", which is kinda the dev-version.
However a dump of the whole system (tarball or dd raw dump of the partitions) would be nice to have, I hope the OP is willing to make one

Why do you have to do it with the toolkit, just get the sdk and do it. There are probably root methods for ICS devices that would work on it.
When you guys were on the Note 2 before updating to the Note 3 (or any Galaxy device), how long did it take for the update(s) to come out where you would get the UI from the Galaxy S device? For example, the phone, web browser, texting UI, etc updated for the Note 2 and it looks similar to the S4. Like I understand it's hard to explain, but I was wondering when will our Note 3's look like the S5's TW ui?
The answer is maybe never. Think about it you buy a device with one look learn it then they force a whole new look on you. This would outrage probably most novice users.

Can I get this without rooting or voiding my warranty? I hate Knox, but I don't want to trip it and I rather keep my warranty intact. I rooted my old Note on Verizon, but then unrooted it later and it's warranty is unvoided, but I rather not root alltogether and keep it clean.

Is that just the latest version's apk? I'll go that route but hopefully ESPN/Google fixes this, assuming it's thinking the device is a tablet or something.

Yep. Seems like it. Just watched a video on it.
Edit: It's probably a DPI thing. It will get sorted out soon.

Shows that its compatible here, I am on a custom dpi though. At 480 dpi right now.
never worked on any of my tablets. Pull it off another device and and install. Will work fine

Watch ESPN works. I wonder if they have not updated scorecenter for android 5. Last update was 10/14

Have you noticed any issues using 480?
I thought it was an Android 5 issue. My N5, when updated to 5.0, didn't allow me to download it either.
I'll try changing DPI to see if it works.
I'm not 100% sure. My DPI is set to 493, and I can download it. But what I cannot download is the ESPN FC app.
My device is compatible for this app ..
This might not be a popular opinion, but if you can't download ScoreCenter, just download Yahoo Sports. Yahoo's app is a million times better than ESPN's. Trust me, I used to swear by ScoreCenter, but I heard a bunch of people on Twitter hyping up Yahoo's app. I finally gave it a try and was blown away. I don't even bother with ScoreCenter anymore.
Just use market helper to spoof your phone.
Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146216
I think issue isn't android lolipop its the screen resolution that i is causing the issue I pulled apk using myappsharer from another phone I can post if anybody needs.
did they finally start using video clips that aren't from dial-up? that's the reason i uninstalled earlier this year.

No. It was never "compatible" with any tablet I've owned. I'm sure the issue is screen size
Hey guys frozt here just thought I would drop an idea by you guys that love the note 4 but hate touchwiz.
So I was thinking in theory it would be possible to when detaching the spen to open the "Pie" control since when you do it on stock the spent quucksettings popup, and pie is way more customizable and user friendly
So my whole point is do you think that this would be useful?
P.S. I went to my nexus 6 I need a Turing point as to why I should come back to the note 4
Stereo speakers and 6in screens a big deal for me. Any thoughts?
so listen to this

there are many pie apps available in google play store. download any of them.
now go and search in same play store with keywords "note", "spen", "detach" and you ll get 2 or 3 apps which allows to launch an app on detach on aosp as well. chose wisely. hurray you got it.
nexus 6 with stock vs note 4 for tw.
---> tw has many options compared to stock android and nothing beats shealth, air command (spencommand for replacement), writing buddy, one hand, toolbox, upsm, camera, snote, finger lock, multi window, lock screen effects, accessibility settings, private mode, s finder, pop up call ................. phewwwwwww and many more.
hope you got your answer. :silly:
if stereo speakers is all u need then i cant do anything for you but screen is almost same only 0.3in difference so it should not matter.
I ran CM11/12 AOSP nightlies on my Note 2 right up till now. I replaced it with a Note 4 and you know what, Samsung knows best when it comes to the S-Pen and has integrated it well. I'm probably not going to flash any custom roms this time.
