Am I screwed? - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I had this old phone that I messed around with, I ended up "bricking" it with the message "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Pleae turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help.". I installed odin and flashed a stock firmware. But it failed, now I'm stuck on a screen that says, "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.". I'm now stuck, I spent hours googling for solutions. In odin, it always gets stuck on boot.img, and nand write start.. Any help, thanks? [SGH-I537 - ATT]

I am not sure what firmware my phone is on, i have done some research regarding the error codes in odin and it turned out that I probably lost the system and that I needed to go to a repaire shop that has z3x tools or similar to reinstall the firmware. I am very naive about this subject so I will try one of the firmwares and tell you how it turned out.

[Q] My Galaxy Note(SHV-E160L) is bricked...

before writing, I'm so sorry for my pooooor English.
I live in Toronto, Canada. I bought my Galaxy Note(SHV-E160L) from Korea, so change sim card from LG U+ to Rogers.
but when I sleep, Note encounter Unlimited Reboot.
so I try to repair in 3-way.
first, Factory reset. but I could make Download mode only, couldn't make Recovery mode.
so I try Samsung Kies Recovery mode, but Kies show me binery Error.
last, I want to use ODIN, but ODIN show me Error Message, too.
"Complete(write) operation failed"
What this means?
If it can't be repaired, I must send my cell phone to Korea.
I'm very embrassed...
please help me!!
and Merry Christmas for you
Is it sticking on factoryfs.img in ODIN ? this usually means its bricked which kernel where you on when you did the factory reset ?
I had a similar issue last week, stuck in odin, everything failing, I was convinced it was bricked, I manage to repair it by (no joking here) flashing a million wrong things in ODIN.... But DO NOT TRY THIS lol
try to flash a safe kernel through ODIN, and then see if it bring back recovery, then you can wipe and flash a new rom (hopefully)
otherwise there is the pit file method to revive from a brick, which works well, but loses around 3gb of internal sd space
hello
hello bro...
try this method:
download a stock gingerbread rom then go into download recovery, flash it with odin, root your phone.
from here you can install any custom rom, this is how i do when i got bootloop.
Thanks for your reply

Perhaps should follow closely the guide for using odin from Dr ketan should help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
1. Installation
- Download stock ROM (should start with a GB rom), and extract it to .tar file
- Download Odin, open it
- select PDA tab and point to ROM file. Leave Re-partition, pit, CSC, Phone tab unticked.
- Switch off device, Put in download mode (Vol down + Home + Power)
- completely close kies, Anti virus if running
- Connect device to PC
- ID com port shud turn yellow (not shown in image)
Now hit Start

see how it goes.
Same problem as OP
Hello guys,
unfortunately, I have the same problem with my 32GB SHV-E160L as OP. Little backstory:
I bought the GNote in Korea and brought it back to my country. I successfully rooted it with one of the guides here on XDA (Tegrak kernel, no OC whatsoever). No problems so far, the phone worked for weeks and I was able to do what you can do with rooted phones. One day while surfing the net it just crashed and was stuck in a boot loop. This is where I am now.
I tried:
Go into tegrak recovery. result: It gets stuck on samsung logo, funnily the phone would establish a usb connection if plugged in (as if in download mode)
Reset from Kies. result: After beeing told by Kies to go into download mode, instead of flashing the new software it gives an error message in Korean about missing binaries (see attachment)
Flash from odin. result: the dreaded red box with "fail" appears after the NAND write command
Now, after doing my research here on XDA I found out that my emmc might have damaged partitions and I need a PIT file. Here's where I'm stuck.... I can't find a PIT file for my 32GB note, only for the N7000 or the I717. And I don't want to mess things further up... so if anyone here could provide me with a PIT file, or tell me how to fix the phone through other means I would be really grateful
Thanks in advance....
You should ask hg42 if he can make one - in his thread I read that he did this before even for other devices.
So try a pm or post in his thread. Good luck

[Q] Please help with "bricked gs4 active"

Hello every one, i am new to this forum and this is my first thread. thanks for the administrator and all that make this forum possible.
I need help flashing my SGH-i537, i was dumb enough to try unlocking my phone by pressing *#9090# something like that and as soon as the menu appeared i press option 2 and that was enough to erase my IMEI number. after that i tried odin (one click odin) and it failed. ever since i have tried odin and kies back and forth... kies does not connect to my phone, my pc finds it but kies doesn't. odin completes flash process just about 95% and then fails.... many time without success..... should i try a different stock firmware? a different odin version? is there a way to fix my phone or trash is the only solution?? thanks to all respond in advance.

Is my phone bricked? Please help~

i tired rooting my t-mobile s6 [SM-G920T] running on 5.1.1 last night with the method outlined by the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...recovery-twrp2-8-6-0-g925t-5-1-1-of6-t3143002
it took me a few attempts, but i thought i finally got root... it turns out my digitizer's x-axis somehow got messed up during some process [when i touch the right side of the screen, it selects left, and vise-versa]
now i can't even turn on my phone... when i try, the splash screen simply tells me "kernel is not seandroid enforcing" and "custom binary blocked by FRP lock"
i tried taking it back to the t-mo store since i just got the phone yesterday, but "no exchanges on rooted devices...":crying:
is there any way for me to fix my problem? please advise, thank you.
Try Odin my friend or smart switch..
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Free mobile app
since i upgraded to 5.1.1 before i attempted all this, i need the G920TUVU2COF6 md5 file... i was using the 5.0.2 version: G920TUVU1AOCG
maybe that is why it kept failing... i am downloading the right version right now and will give it a try.
i really hope it works... if not, i don't know what else i can try
You flashed twrp recovery for the G925T edge.
Try this before doing anything else. If it works, thank edgarf28.
The next time you flash something, double check that it is correct for your phone before flashing :good:

i tried that, but no success...
i was able to odin the 5.1.1 file, but the digitizer was still messed up.
but now with a bootable stock rom, i took the phone into the store and they exchanged it for me in 15 minutes.
Was it booting into odin? These situations are weird because if odin reads and the phone at least boots to Samsung screen I try and have succeeded on all occasions at un-soft-bricking.
i was able to put the phone into download mode... since i updated to 5.1.1 before i began the root process, i had to use the G920TUVU2COF6 md5 file instead of the G920TUVU1AOCG in odin to restore.

you can recover your phone using stock G920TUVU2COF6, i recovered my phone from same issue.

I think my phone just bricked.

I have a SD Galaxy note 8 (U)
Tried to update the phone recently but during the install the cable jiggled and the phone stopped updating. It's currently listing "Software Update Failed".
I tried to go into Download mode and it automatically shoots me to "Software Update Failed". Factory reset doesn't work and neither does Safe Mode.
I have odin up right now and it looks like it can see the phone, but when trying to flash the AP over it just says that it has failed.
I'm completely open to any help at all at this point to hopefully save my phone.
Have you tried an older firmware? Might be worth a shot
It wont list Download mode at all. Just says in the text on the top above software update failed "Please re-download the official system image"
Note, it will get to the part of the warning screen telling me to press volume up to goto download mode, but as soon as I do that it states Software Update Failed and the above message.
The only time the device is listed in Odin by the way is if I try to use safe mode and reopen Odin.
Fixed it.
The solution is to download the modded version of Odin and then get the latest stock firmware. Get to the screen where it says "Software Update Failed" and connect the phone to your computer. Load up the modded odin and the stock firmware and flash. You're set.
That's good to hear, have you got a link to the thread of the "Modded Odin" it'll be good to know/have, if I have that issue in the future.

OP can confirm for sure, but probably this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=75870740
Good to hear. phew.
So I suppose you were updating through Odin and the cable disconnected by mistake?
my phone is doing the same thing, straight up bricked. can you please tell me step by step what you did and how. my phone has been bricked for 2 days now

But he already said what he did. Now it's on your part to do some more searching and reading to understand what you are doing. Your phone definitely didn't brick itself.

Odin stock flash not working, don't know what else to try SM-N960U

Hello everyone- I hope someone can give me some advice i haven't tried yet on my issue. This is my first post and i searched through a million forums for ideas, my apologies if i missed anything or if anything below is unclear. I tried to list everything out that i have tried in case i missed anything.
Note 9 - SM-N960U (TMB) went into a boot loop randomly (possible after a Samsung update as it happened overnight).
Steps I've taken so far:
- Tried the normal steps first as instructed by Samsung, clear cache-partition, factory reset device etc - still stuck in boot loop.
- Took phone to authorized Samsung service center, they could not fix. phone now on blue screen "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC Software"
- Smart switch recovery software would not recognize the phone, updated drivers multiple times, still no detection.
-Downloaded stock TMB firmware from SamMobile (N960USQS9FUG2) - Tried to flash with Odin (versions 3.13 and 3.14 - patched and unpatched) kept getting stuck at vendor.img.ext4 in CSC file or system.img.ext4 in the AP file.
-Tried to Re-Partition without Pit file and with the pit file - PIT file name: CROWNQLTE_USA_SINGLE.pit - Odin would get stuck on same files.
-Tried to re-partition with Nand Erase selected and Pit file attached - Odin would freeze at setting the partition.
Is there anything else i can try or is this phone officially a paper weight?
You are able to flash firmware from the emergency screen. When one of my devices did this I was able to get things up and running with Odin flash from that screen. I can't remember what partition was broken when it happened on my Note 8, but the only way to fix was putting in new mother board. I'm not saying go this route. Might try combination firmware. I'm sure someone will chime in if I am wrong. I tried to flash stock on my SM-N950U after being rooted. It would show pass in Odin but would never boot..just bootloader. As I said above my only option was new motherboard. I wish I could find the message from a developer that helps me a ton, and which partition it was that was the issue. If I find it I will let you know.

Thanks for the reply @butchieboy, If you find those messages i would definitely appreciate it! I should have specified that i was able to run the Odin flash from the recovery page. That's a good idea to try combination firmware, never done it before though. Would i just try an older AP or CSC with the up to date other files? or just a combination of old and new and see if something happens?
Overall i think i may be in the boat you were in with your Note 8- something seems seriously wrong with the memory partitions that seem like it may be unfixable via flash. i'll have to see if i can find a motherboard that's worth the price to see if it's worth it at this point.
Combo firmware needs be on same bootloader that you are currently on
