wifi and mobile data traffic indicator arrows? - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

is there anyway to have the wifi and mobile data icons on statusbar to show the little traffic indicator arrows? all android phones ive had since long as i can remember this was standard. this is my first phone i cant get this setting, even with gravity box. i just want the small up/down arrows right on the individual statusbar icons, not the seperate (and space wasting) data indicator like most mods or apps. they kind of flash on and off as data is being transmitted. kind of like this: https://img.xda-cdn.com/9DJLUKuaYYEJwtgbpd9TUwXpRKc=/http://s23.postimg.org/tkibdrl4r/merged.png
i find if useful to know when phone is sending or receiving data (or trying), especially useful when on bad connection. is it just a small setting im missing? any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance

Switch between 2g and 3g

Is there an app or something that allows me to switch between 2g and 3g networks? I have a widget which takes me directly to the settings but I would love an app that I could use instead. Especially something that could for instance switch automatically on location change using something like locale or Settings Profile.
I am rooted if that helps.
Thanks
Needn´t app.On screen dial you type *#*#4636#*#*,and switch it in there

right on, but isn't there a "beautiful" widget or something similar that simply toggles between the two?
here is one i use
2G-3G OnOff
Thanks for the replies, but it's not quite what I am looking for. I already use the widget ghostrida suggests, but really I want a way to either change it directly from the home screen or even better a way to change it using locale or something similar so when I get home and am on WiFi, the phone will automatically switch to 2g networks saving my battery - especially as I have poor 3g reception at home.
Thanks

I dont believe it is allowed any longer in the android sdk due to security issues. I could be wrong though I know a lot of the settings where moved to a secured section.
What you could do is create a contact with the number mentioned above and add it to your homescreen as a widget. If you want to get really in depth with it, you could add a picture of something that would signify edge for you (i.e. a 2g icon or something) and it would show up like that on your homescreen.
Setting it as a contact doesn't work, ive tried that before.
closest solution is an app in the market known as phone info
I use an app c alled switch network type 2g/3g it's not quite what you're looking for, but instead of being a widget it shows up in the notification bar only when you drag it down. it doesn't automatically change it for you, but it also doesn't take up a spot on your homescreen and it's available anywhere the notification bar shows up.

toggle mobile data on/off

i used to have a widget on my htc hero that could turn on/off mobile data network aswell as wlan, gps and so on, think it was called power manager.
But after i migrated to the lg optimus 2x, no such option is available, even tho it appears to be the same widget as on my old phone.
I tryed searching for this but could not find anything useful, so i ask you guys if you heard of anything that could enable/disable mobile data network.
I would love to get the option in the status bar next to the current toggles (wlan, gps, rotation and so on), but a widget would suffice.
Cyanogen rom has the options to toggle all that.
For stock rom check in the market place for APNON widget
As a widget I use widgetsoid and would recommend it. You can customise what is on it and also the look to a certain extent. Been good for me
my first post was a bit unclear..
The other toggles i list in my first posts are already in the drop-down status menu, the one im missing is the mobile data network toggle.
i´ll check the widgetsoid, thanks for the hint!
Or try "Elixier", lots of toggle functions.
Market Link:

Try quick settings
I would recommend Widgetsoid.
Elixir is good in function, but it uses a lot of power. My battery drained twice as fast with Elixir compared to Widgetsoid..

Disable network traffic indicators

They're kind of distracting, and imo useless. Any way to get rid of them?
Wouldn't be too bad if there was a dedicated space in the status bar for them, but when they come and go, icons to the left bounce around.

Yes I find them to be very distracting as well. I did a quick search to look on how to disable them but came up empty [emoji852]️

I ended up just disabling the data icon entirely. I almost never end up in a dead zone without signal/wifi, and if you really want to know you can use a widget or KLWP or something to make an indicator on your desktop.

How did you disable the data icon?

Enable the System UI Tuner by pulling down the notification shade and long pressing the settings gear icon for a while.
Then, find System UI Tuner in the System Settings. From there you can disable various icons.
Sony monitor their own Community forums for feedback. There are a few threads over there already about these network indicators causing icons to shift around; plenty of people find them irritating. Be sure to add your thoughts to those threads and hopefully Sony will change the icons in a future update.
I went to phone settings and found a Sony email address and sent some feedback mostly about the status bar indicators, nfc icon, auto brightness, and missing Oreo night mode (blue light filter). But I'll check out the Sony forum. Both Oreo and the phone are fairly new, so maybe it's just they need to polish the software a bit.
I thought I was the only one finding this annoying. I was about to create a new thread about it. I think what I can do for now is to disable the entire icon and install some third party app for wifi indicator.

Thank you!!! Can't wait to get home and try this, will update this post with the results.

Have these quirks been officially fixed, yet?

Some things bothered me the last time I had the XZ1 Compact:
1. The network data indicator arrows that made the status bar icons bounce around.
2. The non-removable NFC icon in the status bar
3. The night time blue light filter seemed to be removed from Oreo
With the now lower price of the XZ1 compact, it's crossed my mind again. But have any of these annoyances been fixed in official updates?

Only the nfc icon has been addressed and can now be removed.
The others are the same, i use a third party for the blue light filter.... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub.... Icon for the filter can be put in the quick access panel.
The data traffic is an annoyance but quite minor
Good day.
You can install back the Sony night light, see this thread.

This has been fixed by a third-party app. You need adb to enable it, no root required. It will remove the traffic indicators completely (on both wifi and 4g connection) so you won't know if your phone is sending or receiving data, but at least things don't bounce around anymore.

wifi calling text in notification panel

Hey everyone
I've tried looking through all the settings
How do I get rid of the text saying ee WiFi calling?
Many thanks
Marcus
Wish I knew the answer. When it's on WiFi calling, notifications are hidden behind the notch. Very irritating.
Someone must have an answer ?
I guess you can disable 'Display carrier name' in settings. Just search for it. I believe the mobile operators often add an extra 'Wifi' part to the name thus making it somewhat extra long. Not sure
about the 'Calling' part, I don't get that, instead on my phone I just get a VoWiFi symbol and the carrier name (with WiFi) scrolling over from time to time. I'm on 128.
On mine, I have two choices. It can say "EE Wi-Fi Calling" - which is far too long, or I can remove the carrier name from with Apps & Notifications > Notifications & Status Bar, but then there's no icon or anything to tell me Wi-Fi calling is available.
Previous phone (LG G5) simply showed the Wi-Fi calling icon instead. It's a bit of an annoyance, but I guess I'll have to live with it. Almost everything else about the phone is brilliant.
