How could we override system screen timeout options? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hi, In settings we have screen timeout options and max we can set for 10 min.

As with many customization options, you can do this with Tasker.
You can't disable it completely. But you can lengthen the screen timeout to over 24 hours. That should be effective enough. And you can create conditions where it only disabled screen timeout under certain conditions.

Reduce Today Screen Timeout time below 10 minutes

Anyone know what registry entry to change to reduce the "Today Timeout". I want to change it to 1 min down from the minimum of 10 min in the UI.

[Q] Gear 2 max/min brightness toggle

Hi
How should I go about creating a toggle to turn brightness of Gear to max level and then to min level. This would be really useful outdoors and to save battery. At present I need to dig thru about 4 levels under the settings icon.

Setting Screen Dim Amount When Inactive?

I would like to use my fire tablet as an alarm panel. Found a few apps that display full screen web pages, that works good. In the development options I turned on "stay awake" so the panel could always be on. After like 30 seconds of no using the screen just barley dims. I would like to dim the screen as much as possible after no use. Anyway to override this amount? I found several apps that can set the dim amount, but just by a schedule, not by inactivity. Or even a web browser app that can control the dimming when not in use?
Thanks a bunch!

Unfortunately, not possible on this device. Minimum brightness level set in kernel (possibly a panel/controller limitation) with no known workarounds (via Xposed). To date this is the only device I own that exhibits this behavior.
Thanks for that info Davey. Maybe I'll see if I can create my own app with a webview that will dim when not touched for a period of time. Since it seems an app can control the dim level. Thanks again.

Ah - so you are not experiencing any dimming vs dissatisfied with the minimum level. Couple thoughts:
- might be able to use an automation tool like Macrodroid or Edge (w/Xposed) to dim the screen on a particular action like last user action or time of day; Tasker (a fan favorite) can do this as well but is overkill for your needs IMO
- blue light filters can emulate deeper dimming levels but you won't realize the associated battery saving as backlight level remains untouched; the again you device is likely plugged in when used as an alarm clock
Unfortunately Macrodroid and Tasker can not listen for inactivity/idle events. Sounds like an Android limitation: http://macrodroid.freeforums.org/inactivity-period-as-trigger-t86.html
Not sure what Edge (w/Xposed) is, not finding that?
Thanks Davey!

Edge is a module for Xposed Framework. You might also consider a different trigger sequence than inactivity/idle, eg: touch, activity atart or time of day. Might need to get a little creative with the thinking

Lower min brightness without app?

There are countless apps available that use a service to allow the lowering of the MIN screen brightness level but none offer an option to lower it without an app running.
I found the setting file for max_brightness but can't find a min brightness.
How can I set my minimum brightness level to 1 without an app?

Lower AOD / Ambient display brightness

This is tasker / macrodroid macro that lowers AOD / Ambient display brightness
Installation:
Unzip file
Extract any 2 profiles for your application of choice (tasker or macrodroid)
Import these 2 profiles to the app and enable them
To control the AOD brightness, edit intensity of extra dim in settings > accessibility
Requirements:
Rooted
Tasker or Macrodroid accessibility permission enabled
How it works:
The macro sets extra dim to ON when you turn off your screen so your AOD brightness will be low - when screen is turned on (even on lockscreen), extra dim is set to off and normal brightness is restored
This was tested on Poco F3 - Android 13 - CrDroid v9.5 but it should work on all android phones
