Is there any way to root Note9 Model: SM-N960U? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and I have been searching for a way to root my note9 that I got from Tmobile. I'm still trying to understand the lingo thats used in this forum, as I'm not too tech savvy.
Its my understanding that the only note9 that can be rooted is the SM-N960F
I have two older phones as well that are not in use, a note5 and Samsung J7. If I can't root the note9 I would like to root the note5 or the J7. The only thing that I saw from searcing in rooting the note 5 is to downgrade the software, although reading through that post it seems like there are some issues with the root, that I dont quite understand. And then I saw there was no way to root the J7.
In the future I told myself I would get a root friendly phone, although I love my note 9. I have rooted my note 3, when I had it many years ago and it was through a simple program. If anyone has some insights, I would appreciate it thanks.

[Q] The new Galaxy Tab 3

I just purchased the new Galaxy tab3 7.0 (SM-T210R) and am trying to root it. I was wondering if it is in the works or not? Or if it can be rooted using the same method as the Tab2? Thanks in advance.
my guess Is yes it can be rooted. but I am too inexperienced to go at it before the tutorials come out. does yours kick the internet out after being idle like mine does?
I suggest checking the Galaxy Tab 3 forum thread, you'll better luck there than here. Pretty sure it'll follow the typical means for samsung devices. Using odin, flashing a file over to give root.
thanks
Thanks for the responses. I haven't been able to find any forums or threads on the Tab3. Doesn't mean there isn't one, just that I can't find it. I will just wait patiently for a tutorial to come out before I attempt any flashing. I rooted my Galaxy epic touch 4g, and kinda created a monster in myself and can't stand not being able to have control of my devices. Really want to get rid of all the bloatware and load my rooted apps onto my Tab3. Thanks again!

But judging by some of the antipathy for this model we may have to wait a bit for the rooting to get done.:crying:

Unfortunately, I agree. I'm in the same boat. I'd really like to see multi-user support on this thing. Just looking for a ROM that is supported for this device.
It´s a pity, I bought it like 3 weeks and something ago in Spain and I really like it, but I want to root it and finally see some scene on the works, but after seeing the feedback this device is having also on Spanish Community, I am starting to guess that it will be a long time wait...
Tab 3 waiting time
After reading a bit more about this item, and my own experiences, I think some of the static is justified. This is after all a budget entry level offering. A couple things that have really annoyed me are the internet for public wi-fi. At one time trying to access local coffee shop internet caused a kernel panic. Fun stuff. In general I have also found the internet, specifically chrome, to be so slow, almost to the point of uselessness. Tragic really.
I have a pair of Sennheiser buds with mic and volume control that don't work with this model, I suspect that I will find out that mic and external controls are not supported by this models jack.
And three mute controls?!!? Really?
I'm really looking forward to the rooting of this tablet so I can get the tools to iron out a few kinks, and clear out the deadwood, I hope it comes soon.

To Root or Not To Root

Now that I have upgraded from the Note 3 to Note 5, I am hoping that rooting without tripping Knox will be a possibility.
However, I must admit that if it's not possible that for the first time in quite a while, I would be content to not root, because I'm interested in Samsung Pay which relies on Knox.
I am still open to the fact that if there's a way to root and that there is a good, stable ROM in development available, I would be willing to give it a try.
Your thoughts?
I'd still root.
I would still root, just because I like using Tasker and a bunch of stuff in it isn't enabled. I also use Google Wallet anyway, so Knox is a non-issue for me.

I feel the same as you. I've been rooting and romming for the past four years and this is the first time that I've had no desire to root.
I hope they will release the Ping-Pong root soon for the Note 5 as I would like to try out the various payment solutions coming out in the next months.
I didn't care with the S6 Edge as I thought it would have taken ages to find a 'stealth' root, but then... :banghead:

Oh you have a s6 edge ? I figured you were talking about root a note , then again i see youre in Italy so yeah no note for you either ...
I'm a rooter and ex flasholic but this time around I might not due to Samsung Pay. If I end up liking and using it, I won't root my phone but if I don't then I'll root and flash a Rom of choice as usual.

I'm in agreement and have thanked those for responding to my post. I don't post often and respectfully welcome everyone's views and opinions.
If we get root I am all over it, I don't care about tap to pay... Takes me about the same time to pull out my phone and tap it as it does my card so yeah..
benefits of root outweigh the benefit of reaching into a different pocket to make a payment.
not sure yet
I too was an HTC M8 flashoholic, Ive been sober for a week now with the Note 5. I have to say it has been very smooth, even Touchwiz and trouble free as well as blazing fast. I do miss the Viper4Android and Titanium Back up abilities. But this phone needs some time for the developers to create some magic before I will root. There will be an OTA update soon and rooting will lose that ability, not to mention as of now there arent an abundance of ROMS to choose from. Also I have caught up on my sleep from the lack of flashing roms!

Sprint 64g Black Note 5
Given the fact that I live in Canada and it will probably be 3 years or so before we can use Samsung Pay that makes my decision easier. I tried to stick with unrooted this time around so I can get the "promised" monthly security updates easily. However, Lightflow has that persistent notification if you dont have a rooted phone which is bothering me probably more than it should.

Questions about touchwiz and Root

Hi, I'm new to the forums, but wanted to ask here because I know the users of this site tend to be much more knowledgeable than other android forums. Basically I've been a loyal Note user for a few years. I started way back with the Note 2, then moved to the 3 when it came out, then 4, and now the 5 a month or so ago. Since I've been using the note for so long I'm very accustomed to touchwiz and other Samsung features, I love my s-pen.
With that said, I'm looking to gain root access to my Note5. I never rooted any of my other Notes, never felt the need to. But now I'm looking for some additional features that require root, like remote GPS toggling and a few specific apps. Aside from that, I want to keep everything else as is. I want to keep touchwiz, I want my S-pen features like air command, and everything else that comes stock with the note 5. I'm not looking for any crazy ROMs, just basic root access on the Note5 while keeping it just as it is out of the box. I understand all methods will trip Knox and void warranty and I'm OK with that.
So can anyone point me to, or guide me in gaining root access without affecting touchwiz and other stock Note5 features, other than Samsung pay?
Thanks
Edit to add... by the way I'm on Tmobile
Dr. Ketan has a great guide on how to root note 5s and just generally an all-in-one thread. Read it and follow the instructions. Just know that after rooting, sometimes, there are issues with the phone going to deepsleep. There are ways around it. Also, after rooting you can never be on all stock unrooted firmware because of the deepsleep issue. After rooting you also won't get OTAs. Pretty much you're on your own after rooting. This series of galaxy devices is different from other more dev friendly devices like the nexus line because you can never come back to complete stock without the deepsleep issue(battery drain while idle). Good luck

Thank you for response...Yes understand OTAs will be gone, I plan to unroot for those and reroot...I understand pros and cons, I'm just worried about losing Samsung features

TWRP

Anyone work atm on a port of TWRP for Note 8? I cannot wait anymore for a custom rom hehe
Can we use the twrp from S8??
I think its the same hardware. Only more RAM.
Why would you want it on a note? If you want to root and run other os, get a s8+. Wouldn't the s pen become a paperweight?

Huh? Why would that be? I haven't had a note for a while but had twrp and root on my note 4, spen worked perfectly and saw daily use.
Edit: oh I see what you mean. You mean ported version from the s8 right?

TWRP is a recovery image and a direct S8 TWRP port wouldn't affect the operating skin, so no S-Pen functionality would be lost.
But twrp don't give root.. I say let start a bounty

I think you've either misunderstood the question or don't understand the concept.
TWRP doesn't affect the OS at all but you can use TWRP to install a customised version of the OS that has more features, less bloat and still keeps all of the functionality of the official OS.
Before I had to move to a Lineage OS based ROM on my Note 3, I used ROMs that were based on Samsung firmware and the S-pen worked just fine.

I guess I've just been relatively happy with touch wiz so I never considered going that route. The last phone I ran a diff OS on was the n3 or n4.
My only complaints would be I'd like to be able to download torrents right to the sd card, and for them to fix the vpn bug.

If the stock software suits you, that's all good. But you have to understand that it doesn't suit everyone and many people want to have more control over how their device looks and behaves based on their needs and personal preferences.
I'll probably keep my Note 8 stock until I either get fed up with TouchWiz or some fancy custom ROM catches my eye, but even then, I'll probably root it and install TWRP as soon as the opportunity arrives.

Your absolutely right. This is one of those moments when I commented without anything of substance to add. My bad, carry on gents lol.
How many retarded Noobs are going to post and ask questions and rooting and roming on a locked bootloader N8? It's locked down, don't buy it than. ****, I ****ing can't stand members that don't read. We might get root in a couple months.....maybe. roming, well pretty much forget about it. I've been with xda for 10+ yrs, modding phones for 12 yrs, android for 7 yrs and haven't been without root for pretty much more than a couple hrs. But this note 8, even stock is amazing.

I could not agree more. Every new phone I buy I don't expect a BL unlock. Especially Samsung. I expect someone will come up with a root method for the Note 8 eventually but if not, I'm still happy with my Note 8. I still have my unlocked Pixel XL to play with for ROM testing etc. I just wish Samsung would push Oreo out. I was in the beta and I think Oreo is much better than Nougat. I know it will likely be a month or more before we see it on the Note 8.

Why locked... I use the exynos version? crapdragon US version is locked, but with the F exynos version, bootloader is open and no problem to install TWRP / Custom rom so far^^
TWRP should be literally around the corner. Release date is this week, so TWRP and ROOT should be very close. ONLY FOR N950F and N950FD versions, EXYNOS. Snapdragon or USA or Canada variants are out of luck, just like the S8 snapdragons.

This sound great. Many thanks for your info.
Do you have a link there we can check the availability of TWRP and/or Root for N950F/FD?
Or can you post an update here then it is available?

Every phone I have had with a locked boot loader has gotten root eventually. Someone will get it running. Be patient the phone has not even official been released.

Well im on Sprint, and I'm not stupid enough to spend $1000+ on a phone I can't get insurance on and switch carriers too. Voiding warranty I can care less about cause I always rooted n romed right away, but no insurance......hell no. Root will be good enough when it eventually comes long. Also I like SD chips over Exynos anyways. What we need is more of the old school devs back. The Chad Goodman's of xda. I wish Samsung would offer an unlock code that we would agree voiding warranty too like HTC did before.

Is there a way to root snapdragon variant through magisk?

Hi there, I just bought a galaxy note 8 but somehow my carrier send me a US Snapdragon variant of the galaxy note 8.
I searched a lot and learned about the SAMfail method but to be honest, I think this is too much disadventages (Screen bugs, no Safetynet, battery bug stuck at 80%) for not that much advantages, so I would like to know if there's a way to root it through Magisk or at least another way to root even with superSU minus the bugs provided by SAMfail method?
I ask here because I've searched a lot before but sometimes someone will say "this" and sometime the other say "that" and at last I don't know which one I should listen to ?
Thanks a lot
