To my issue: on occasion, my phone mutes itself. The onscreen display doesn't show my end as being muted (pressing and repressing does nothing). I end up having to end the call and call again, which is a pain after being on hold for 20 minutes.
I can find no rhyme or reason for this behavior either. Most of the time it's on outgoing calls, but happens on incoming also. Happens across networks (VZW, AT&T) and with landlines (calling my bank). This has happened in the morning, afternoon and at night, though it doesn't happen in the middle of a call, only the beginning. Just seems to be random.
I've browsed through the 3845#*880#/hidden menu but didn't find any sort of relevant tests. If anyone has any thoughts and/or solutions as to what's going on, be happy to hear 'em.
Thanks

i had this issue, pinpointed it down to viber, for some reason. uninstalled it, and it works fine now. a workaround is, during the call, switch to speaker, then normal again, your mic should be working for a minute or so

Thanks for the timely reply Flying_Bear.
I don't have Viber installed (assuming it's an app/service called Viber, not com.lge.viber or something). The sole reason I went root was to clean out the bevy of junk that comes preinstalled. Unfortunately, your work-around didn't work either. Just called my bank and switching between speaker and earpiece had no effect; the operator still couldn't hear me.
Any other guesses?
I did find this from another thread, reads like CM10 might do the trick, but I'd rather not go that route if possible. This seems to be a known, albeit infrequent, yet annoying issue.

oh well, it seems that our problems, even though they have similar simptoms, aren't caused by the same thing. i can't give you much, except the standard factory reset / reflash .kdz advice. good luck!

WP8.1 already allows setting different volumes for notifications (ringer, etc.), apps/music, and calls. You should update if this feature is important to you.

you can try hardreset your phone
Dude, I am *this* close to reporting you for spamming the board with irrelevant or outright wrong comments. I don't know what the heck you think a hard reset would do to help, but it's far more likely to result in a pissed-off user than anything else. I get that you were very urgently trying to get over the 10-post limit, but the way you do it is cruising for a locked account instead...
To everybody else, especially the OP: Don't hard-reset your phone to try and deal with a volume issue, OK? It doesn't work that way. This guy has no idea what he's talking about.
you can get a developer account and update your device to WP8.1,and you'll find it surpports to turn down/up your tones/messages and music volume not at the sametime:fingers-crossed:
Or just wait for a month,Microsoft will send the WP8.1 in every OEM companies.
This phone was meant to be the best mobile I've ever purchased, but silly things are putting me off. I am only 4 months into ownership, and now looking to part company with my Mi 9 as soon as possible.
1. The data just stops working when the phone loses and regains signal - as covered in a variety of other XDA threads and elsewhere. Makes the phone totally useless to someone like me who does a lot of travelling on underground trains and on motorways - I am missing alerts, messages, emails because of this.
2. The flashlight/torch keeps turning itself on randomly without any user intervention.
3. Since the last update, Google Photos has all the images showing with a crazy contrast level that makes them hard to look at. Again, covered in lots of threads elsewhere including temporary "fixes", but frustrating.
Anything I'm missing?
I'm not in a position to root etc to try other ROMs as I rely heavily on Google Pay which is broken on rooted/unlocked phones. Current ROM 10.2.28.0 (PFAEUXM). Reporting to Xiaomi I might as well just shout my grievances into a well... :crying:
Not judging just having question to
1. Does it not reconnect to the Internet after it lost signal? When I use the underground and loose signal but get out of it it works for me still. Or is your problem different?
2. Did you link the flashlight with the Assistant button?
3. I just checked Google photos but don't see any difference in picture view. How do I see the high contrast you have?
Sincerely a new Xiaomi user
Same version of miui, locked, unrooted.
1. Never had I experienced something like that
2. Never had I experienced something like that
3. Most likely a Google photos issue. After the latest Google app update (not Google photos app) it seems to be fixed.

I agree on 1 and 2
The 3rd bug I experienced also on havoc gsi so I don't really think it is miui specific.
I would add to the list weirdly working auto brightness, on other phones it works way better than on mi9
Also notifications icons limit on statusbar is set incorrectly, fix for that is in beta since month or maybe two but xiaomi prefers to change notch shape rather than fixing bugs in stable rom...
And the last one is more like a visual "glitch" than a bug. statusbar is a little taller than a notch
I don't have any of these bugs (running Revolution OS - modified MIUI stock rom).
Point 3. (as someone already said) disappeared after an update, although the official google support told me it has something to do with the vendor in particular (even though some OnePlus 7 pro devices are affected as well).
Never heard anything like point 1. tbh. I would recommend leaving stock rom behind and either go for xiaomi.eu/revolution OS or some other sort of Rom. Trust me there is way less bloatware and a much better overall experience compared to stock rom.

1. That's correct - it shows full bars and the 4G symbol and you can make and receive calls and texts, but you cannot pass any data until you toggle data off/on or reboot. This is number one bug - what use a communication device that stops communication and you don't know about it. I am confused how it does not affect everyone on this ROM however there are more than enough people saying it is happening to them.
2. Yes, long press of assistant button to toggle flashlight. But it still turns on randomly even when the phone is just sat on the desk!
3. This is fixed apparently by disabling automatic contrast and then reinstalling Google photos - so maybe you won't see this? The symptoms are - open Google Photos, tap on any photo, after a second it changes the contrast of the image so you can barely see it.
1. Even worse: if my Mi 9 loses signal it will never reconnect unless I restart the phone. Happened on Global ROM and Xiaomi.EU ROM.
1. The data/Signal problems are 100% Provider/Region related. If not, everybody would have that same Problem.
2. If you blame the device / Stock Rom why do you come with those problems to xda? Nobody here is working for xiaomi, go to them.
3. If you like xda you should be able to use the search, all of your problems are solved a long time ago and solutions are all over xda. Just search for it.
The way you did it looks like a little child laying under the table crying and kicking around no matter who is around.
1. Can confirm mine definitely doesn't do that, would be horrible if it did, I wholeheartedly agree(miui 10.2.28 PFAEUXM). Then again I only had it for 2 weeks, wouldn't be surprised if something like this would start happening in the future, such is the life of "flagship killers", but I knew the risks when I jumped aboard even though I had the budget for an s10+ or 7 pro.
2.Never had it happen but that sounds like the kind of bug that would definitely be fixed with a minor software update. If the problem has been reoccurring after subsequent updates then a hard reset would be worth a try.
3. Not an app I use.
If you have a warranty then it should be applicable for that signal issue, it should also be easy to reproduce in a competent repair service.
Here is mine...
1. I also experience this sometimes, connection seems lost even though 4g signal is full bar, have to turn on airplane mode to refresh then it will have connection again.
2. Never happened to me..
3. This was fixed now, just update google app and gphotos. It was weird when it was like that, but now it is ok.
1. What's your preferred network type set for? I had all sorts of connection issues on AT&T USA until I switched to GSM/WCMA/LTE. I had it set for LTE Only for the longest time but on a road trip realized that wasn't always possible.
1. Never had that
2. Never had that
You might want to check with your ISP.
Yeah, there are some annoying bugs that im experiencing as well. That shouldnt happen in the flagship line. But on the other hand, there is no better phone i could buy for the money,so i will just wait and hope those bugs will be fixed soon. Otherwise its just great phone and i wouldnt give up this phone just for the camera itself.

Well, you were the one that came here complaining. As he explained you, the signal problems are operator related, otherwise we all would have them, and I can tell you I used 3 different carriers in my country and they all work flawlessly.
Also, those problems you talk about have long been solved, I'd suggest you spend your time searching the forum instead complaining for no reasons.

Almost all xiaomi mi series communities are just horrible and often unacceptable
1. Never had that
2. Same
3. App specific issue - already fixed.
I do have other bugs that annoys me more, like:
1) screens turns on out of the blue, no notification is shown - but if I unlock the phone, I can see that there is a lower priority (not showed on lock screen) notification..
2) when alarm rings, opening the clock app (by clicking on the current time on the widget) does not show the alarm and a stop button, instead I need to pull in notifications and click on the stop action there.
3) android auto: different issues.. sometimes the call app does not appear on the notification area, so I had an issue where android auto disconnected, and I could not disconnect the call. Spotify also does not launch from the car dash, I have to manually open it on my phone. could be app specific, but knowing issues with android auto on other Xiaomi phones, I'm not sure.

I can't find anyone explaining how to fix 1 and 2.
Also, 1 not carrier specific - happens to me on both EE and Vodafone in the UK and other people reporting other various networks Europe wide.
Frankly, I would say if you don't have anything to add, you leave the thread. Or carry on wasting your time replying to things you can't help with, your choice.
My S21 ultra has a delayed notification problem. Apps like eBay, PayPal, Gmail ETC will not receive instant notifications until I actually turn on the screen.
Apps like my Ring alarm, Aqua Mail will get instant notifications just fine. I've have tried everything like adding the apps to the never sleeping list, turned off adaptive notifications, set the apps to not be optimized by the battery ETC.
Why will some apps receive the instant push notifications while most others won't?
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this mess?
Sitting with the exact same issue and gone through all settings. Must be missing something.
I've had a similar issue, but just with a few apps....but they're only occasionally not sending me notifications or are sending me notifications for things that I've never seen before lol. So with Snapchat, for example, I usually get notifications for new snaps that are sent my way, however, on this phone, I occasionally get notifications that I've received a snapchat from like 20 people at once (when the reality is, all of those people had just updated their snap stories within the last few hours)...
Anyways, I was gonna say: "Make sure the apps aren't in sleep mode," but you have clearly tried that by assigning them to the never sleep group...
Definitely an odd issue. Guess I should just feel good due to it not affecting every app on my phone.
Another weird thing , if you have the app toggled off to not optimize battery it is automatically removed from the never sleeping apps list.
I believe this notification problem has something to do with Android Doze?
Anyone find a solution? I am experiencing this also with some notifications, not all despite coming from the same app.

Nope, no solution at all. Now, I'm not even getting missed call notifications.
Apparently it's a network issue.
Link to Samsung post
Its not a network issue for me because im referring to twitter, facebook, whatsapp etc not sms messages.
Never had this issue with the iphone. Its my only complaint with the S21 Ultra but sadly its a big one for me. Sometimes they come through fine and other times they refuse to come through unless i put in my fingerprint and unlock the device. Makes no sense. They were always instant on the iphone wether the regardless of wether the phone was off or on. With Samsung it seems i have to keep the screen on constantly to ensure i receive notifications

Yes, my iPhone 12 Pro Max and the S21 Ultra sitting side by side, iPhone instant notifications, S21 Ultra dead to the world until you turn on the screen. It's a problem with Android Doze and there is no easy fix.

Thats ridiculous
I have noticed that sometimes i get notifications but no sound so they come through silently. I don't recall any Samsung phone having this issue before ?
It really sucks that I like this phone a lot, but I get notifications on my damn S7+ Tablet before I do on my phone. Doesn't matter what wifi or cell network. There is definitely a problem, and a wipe and reload, or clearing cache does not fix it either.

My Tab S7+ 5G has the same notification problem as the S21 Ultra.
Likely Android attempting to save power....
I've had the same issue on Huawei and Xiaomi flagships
I have noticed that when I receive any type of message the first time it is basically instant, but if there comes a bunch of the same type3 of notifications through, it's muted...eg...If my friend sends me a whatsapp once I get the notification...but if the friend sends me 10 pictures all together, I will only get notified of the first one, thereafter all wil come through silently...this is for all types of notifications....it doesn't help with your issue, but also frustrating

I thought i had a similar issue but i soon realised that some times not even the first notification comes through if the screen is locked. There is occasions when it feels as though the first comes through and the rest cannot be seen until i unlock the phone. Its annoying but weird as hell that it seems to only happen with twitter from my experience. Granted that twitter is the app i receive the most notifications from but im confident whatsapp for instance doesnt have this issue as i seem to get every notification regardless of wether the screen is locked or not
oh finally I am not the only one having notification issues. got no porblem with mg s10+ both android 11 but this s21 ultra really have this notif weird problem.
Let’s be clear, this is not a Doze issue. People have been pushing that agenda for such a long time. Doze only kicks in after a certain length of inactivity, however the delayed push notification issue in Android is constant. Note I said Android, that’s because this issue affects every Android device, not just Samsung.
Someone is reading this right now thinking “my Android phones fine, I don’t have an issue with delayed push notifications”. You don’t think you do, but you do. Perform this test, and I guarantee the results will be the same no matter what Android device you use:
Set up both an iPhone and an Android phone with Facebook Messenger (same account)
Make sure the screen of both devices is sleeping
Get someone to send you a message through Facebook Messenger
Repeat the above a number of times. You will note the messages come through on the iPhone without delay, but many will be delayed on the Android. There is no fix, trust me, I’ve done everything you can think of. Turning off battery optimisations for affected apps, disabling Doze via ADB, etc etc etc. There have been many “fixes”, and some do reduce the delay, but they don’t “fix” it. I’ve had Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG, Xiaomi, Google Pixel, Nokia, Alcatel and every single one of them has the same issue.
It’s clear there is a fault with Android Push Notifications, and it’s been there for many years. Until Google finally admits there’s a fault and deals with it, I’m afraid Android users are stuck with the problem. From what I’ve seen of Android 12, there’s still no fix, so for now I’ll stick with iOS.

Finally someone that speaks the truth.
Looking for help on this one. Every 3-5 days my Ultra enters a state where neither I nor the person on the other phone can hear a voice when a call is made or received, but I can hear the ringtone in case I call before the individual responds, and my phone sounds typical assuming someone calls me. However, while the call is noticeable, it is simply silent on both sides. A reboot fixes this only for 3 to happen again after 5 days, requiring another reboot.
At first, I accepted that it was a desecration of the ROM I had submitted, so I went back to my stock image with Odin, including a new VOD CSC presentation. Surprisingly, it is actually happening after this. Speaking as a specialist, it is rare, however, not unbelievable for a device to have such an equipment problem and it is corrected each time with a reboot, which would normally highlight a product/firmware error or the like.
ometv camsurf
However, the reality that is happening after a new flash of Android stock suggests my most dire feelings of dread that this is a team. I could try a few things, like not introducing Magisk or even re-locking my bootloader, but I don't accept that it is a variable. I only used Magisk to set and do not introduce additional modules. Similarly, I have excluded the SIM card or SIM spaces when switching to an e-sim, just to have it happen either way.
In any case, any idea would be welcome, especially if you have endured something almost identical. There is a simple solution, which is to schedule a reboot every day around 3 AM, however, I would rather not have to do this before figuring out what the rationale is.

Making this 5G support even better is how complete it is. All three versions of the Galaxy S22 lineup support both sub-6 and mmWave 5G networks. Some 5G smartphones still hdo box ship without mmWave connectivity, so having both standards present on all models of the S22 is fantastic
