My Note 9 has a strange problem. The back of the phone says the model number is SM-N960F, however the model number software wise says it's SM-N960U. I've check the IMEI number and confirmed it says N960U. I've been trying to update my phone, It's stuck on Android 9 and always says it's on the latest version. Security patch is from Oct 1, 2019. I have also tried updating through Odin using a N960U Android 10 firmware version. When I flash the firmware, Odin fail on 'setup connection'. Just in case it was an issue, I waited 7 days for OEM unlock to show up in developer options, but it never showed up. I waited a bit longer and still nothing. I've tried using different ports on the computer, two different firmware versions, I have not tried an N960F firmware as I don't know if it may end up in some bricked state. I appreciate any help I can get. Thank You.
Load Phone Info app from playstore see what the phone actually is and csc

Morning there,
I've been reading all I've been able to since Monday here and also from search results in Google, but I still haven't got a clear idea if this is possible or not.
I live in UK and I've bought a new Galaxy Note 5, which I received last Saturday, the phone works fine, but it has a N920V firmware on it from Verizon US, and I want to get Android 7 on it.
Verizon hasn't updated the firmware for this phone since January this year, so no Android 7 on their network, at least I can't find any firmware on SamMobile.
I've downloaded Android 7 for it, but firmware N920C (for Turkey it seems...), I've tried to flash it with Odin v3.12.7, the phone has the FRP lock as OFF and I've gone into the developer options and turned ON usb debugging and OEM unlock, but Odin fails to flash it, I can still boot up the phone and use it as normal after Odin fails no issues, I just cannot flash it.
I don't want to root the phone, and I don't want to install any custom recovery or custom ROM either, I just want to install Android 7 and if possible have a firmware with less bloatware, hence I downloaded the N920C. I downloaded the latest N920C firmware available out of the 6 there is available, so if anyone here knows that I can use any of the other 5 and make it work I'll be happy anyway...
As always, many thanks for yourhelp in advance
Just contact me via whatsapp, and ill guide you. Because ive been pass the same problem with u.

Can you explain it here? I don't use whatsup, sorry.
I've flahsed the phone with the latest Verizon firmware from SamMobile, I tried to flash it again with the N920C but didnt work.
Now with the latest Verizon firmware it always throws me an error when I restart the phone saying that the "SIM is not from Verizon", but still works on my EE SIM, so not too worried about that.
Also, I see now a red screen with Verizon name when I restart it, something I didnt have before....
Anyone knows how to get rid of these 2 things? or better even, how to flash the N920C firmware to it?
Thanks

Note 8 is unlocked and currently with T-MOBILE, previously AT&T. I've search all day today and still can't find why I don't have the Oreo update yet. I have the Samsung keis software and it tells me I'm up to date. Did it ever come out for my baseband? I apologized in advance if this was already talked about, I only saw discussions about it being rooted. I want to keep it stock. Thanks

You can check for latest firmware related to your specific model on sammobile.com, then download through updato.com (or using the SamFirm tool) and flash it through Odin.

Since you're using it with T-Mobile and it was previously AT&T you're not going to get updates anymore unless you use an AT&T sim card.. The only way to get the updates at this point is to download the update firmware yourself and flash it through odin. The reason being is because T-Mobile doesn't carry AT&Ts firmware updates so you have to get it yourself.. It's easy as hell to find the firmware on places like Android File Host. Also do not download T-Mobile firmware it will not flash... Use AT&Ts firmware only.
I have a AT&T iPhone 7 from work, you guys think if I take that SIM and put it into the Note 8 the updates would come through? I was looking through the Sam mobile thing. You guys make it seem easy to manually update and I'm terrified being my first time doing it that way. But if you think the SIM card swap would work I'll give that a try first.

The sim card swap should work.. Can't hurt, try it and then check for updates.
It worked!!!
I swapped out the sim cards and it worked!
I ended up having to back up the device and restore, since the update wasn't showing up. I cleared the cache, checked and nothing. After restoring the phone the update became available. After the 8.0.0. update there was about 4 updates after (security patches). I'm now on 8.0.0 with Aug 2018 security patch. I put my tmobile sim card back in and restarted the phone. I even get the tmobile screen during boot up which I never gotten since I switched back in February. All in all it's working fine. I'll update if anything crops up. Thank you all for your help!
You can push software update with this procedure.
put this in your phone app: *#8736364#
Then go to Field Test mode.
Change "Device Initiated date" to one or a few minute ahead. wait until you see "SET" then press Home.
Wait until you see software update to kick it.
Try several times if it doesn't work at first.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950F and I am looking to put it back on stock ROM. I have tried downloading several N950F stock BTU ROM's and I tried to flash it in Odin and it gives a message that says FAILED, and my phone that is in download mode says 'sw rev check fail bootloader device 5 binary 1'. I don't know what the problem is. I need to fix this phone as soon as possible, so if you can assist me I would gladly appreciate it.

What is your baseband (in about phone/software info)? eg. N950FXXU5CRK1
If your baseband has N950FXX(S or U)5.... (notice the U5, and pay attention to the "#" after U or S). Find the correct firmware with that number or higher and flash it.
You can Not flash any firmware with N950FXXU4(3,2,1) on top of the installed N950FXXU5.... the bootloader won't allow it.
Try another cable or USB slot and see if the usb-c slot isn't dirty. Also make sure you have the latest ODIN software.
Hello!
A few days ago i purchased a "new" galaxy note 8 on ebay. the offer said that it would be a N950F. So does it say in the settings.
After setting up the phone I tried to update the phone to the newest firmware via the OTA option in the settings.
Just to see the following message
"Your current software version isn't supported. visit a service center."
Current version: n950fxxu4dsd1/n9500zzh4dsd/n950u5dsd3
Security patch level: March 1, 2019
So I tried to flash a newer stock firmware via odin which didn't work either cause it would either get stuck while initializing or fail after establishing a connection.
I dug a bit deeper and installed PHONE INFO SAM from the playstore to see what's up with this phone.
This is what I found out so far:
BL: N950USQU7DSK3
PDA: N950FXXU4DSD1
CSC: N9500ZZH4DSD1
On top of everything it says in the settings that the phone is a SM-N950F which is a european version of the phone which uses an exynos processor.
But this phone according to Phone Info Sam is a SM-N9500 which uses the msm8998 wich is the snapdragon 835.
So the settings say it is a N950F but in reality it is a N9500.
What does this all mean and what should I do with this phone?
Get a refund?
Can i change the csc somehow and flash a european firmware?
Try changing just the csc with odin. See if that works. Then check for the update. Hope that helps.
I'd return it. As you may have been sold a frankenstein unit made with miss match Note 8 parts.

Return the phone ASAP it's not "new" it's using a bunch of random different hardware parts from several different phones and you'll never be able to update it or anything else. Not worth it.

Changing the CSC unfortunately won't help anything because the phone was put together using a bunch of different parts from a few different phones hardware parts. They'll never be able to flash any firmware updates or anything else.
Mr Mike is spot on. This is why if I buy from Ebay I ask seller to send pics of about phone. Send that Frankenstein thing back.

If your BL is N950U then its a US model phone. The other stuff was just able to be flashed because of my root method on the N950U so thats why pda and csc don’t match. The phone can be flashed with any V7 US firmware. Then you can root from there or whatever you want

Hello,
I bought this phone second hand like 2 years ago, and I never received any update on it.
This is a Note 9 SM-N960U model.
And still is on One UI 1 version and Android 9 (N960USQS2CSGB).
So I want to properly update it. (I assume that the last firmware for it is the USC USA N960USQU8FUE1 one ?)
What could be possible to do ?
Can I Factory Reset the phone (after making a backup) then flash it to the last Software update with Odin or something ?
(Also, I tried using Samsung Smart Switch, but it says that the phone is already up to date).
I read online that I might have to flash it so It can be recognized as another model and make the process easier or something.
But It looks "dangerous" do to for something such expensive.
I need help in order to avoid bricking it. It's been a looong time for me.
Thanks.
(Also interested about rooting the phone, but that's another topic).
