Android 10 update problems :( - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

hi, i have an s10+ exynos (g975f) and i think i have been having problems since i updated from android 9 to 10 from updater. First, when I'm typing the s10 it seems to get stuck because I'm typing at a normal speed but keyboard puts other words!!!!!! this is very annoying, I was about to throw my phone on the floor!!!
Second, my phone is overheating more than usual, and this version has a lot of bugs with a lot of apps, even when i updated them. Really this cellphone has cost me much money i don't like to hate it. has this problem happened to someone else? i have some experience flashing phones (old models) but i think i know how to use odin and other programs well, and i wanna know what you recommend me guys, i would like to root with magisk the stock rom but i don't know in what version i can do that, i didn't like android 10 so much because of this errors, i just want compatibility with all and work calm and i don't want to flash custom roms because i need Samsung's original apps like gear 360.
I have heard the best rom for this model is stock rooted? I wanna know how to extend the battery life too, it has increased since the update.
What can I do guys?
Note: I did the Android 10 update without wiping data

Hi bro,
Even i have the same exynos model indian version and i dont face any lagging lr freezing issue like u have told above but even i face the heating issue.
I think u should format your device once it may help.

when my phone update to Android 10, I wipe the data clean and I have no issue with the phone at all. You should try it.

Why does every ROM I try get worse with time?

Okay so once again, another ROM has got bad after 2 weeks. FXP 349 build has got to be pretty much unsuable, the unlock button doesnt respond, and the UI crashes for a laugh now. Getting very frustrated with this phone. Its getting harder to not smash the hell out of it with a hammer.
I must be doing something wrong, but every ROM Ive used just degrades in performance to the point where I cant take how laggy it is, Ive missed phonecalls because the UI cant wake up and show the incall UI fast enough. There has to be something deep in this phone which causes bad performance.
Im moving to VanirAOSP, as it says in the title of the ROM that its fast and smooth. Lets see if it can outlast any other ROM I've tried.
Sorry for ranting, I just dont get it, is there some secret setting that everyones using and not telling about? Ive tried stock kernel with CM, williams kernel with CM, stock kernel with CrystalPA, same again with williams kernel. Art or dalvik, it seems to make no difference, no matter what, the UI will bug out. Im not moaning at the devs because I know the work they do is hard and is much appreciated. I just wish I knew why this phone cant last 2 weeks without needing to be wiped!
Every ROM gets laggy after a while. Just use some app to clear cache and thumbnails and you should be fine.

I have a feeling you are installing too many apps running in background at once. My phone is super smooth, fast and responsive. I just either close apps after I am done with them (kill process) or don't install trash. Deleting some in-build rom apps which you never use could also help.

Well VanirAOSP has sorted out my issues for now it seems. I dont really install many apps to be honest, I use the Micro PA Gapps package and I then remove Google Now Launcher, freeze the preinstalled launcher3, install Nova launcher. I have only 17 installed apps, Facebook is the only real hog app I think, I install messenger and then freeze it to get around the Facebook app not letting me use chat within the app. I do also play Marvel Contest of Champions, and I make sure to clear all running apps before playing games. I just feel like now on this ROM, the ram is clearing properly, swiping away apps is freeing up the RAM now.
I think the difference is that this ROM is based on AOSP, whereas before, I was using CM ROM's or Crystal PA which is pretty feature rich. Ill stick with this and see if it will last. This ROM just feels noticeably faster and the UI hasnt crashed once yet, even with a theme on!

I could give you a tip about Facebook app and Messenger. There is an app that lets you chat using Facebook app, meaning you can get rid of Messenger. Google it and you will find it, I can't recall the name now.

Well the way im doing it, i dont actually use messenger, its installed but frozen/disabled so it isnt used, this allows me to chat inside the facebook app but the only downside ive found is that the chat notification dont seem to be working. This was a fix I picked up while browsing the net. Ill try out this app if I can find it, the name would make it much easier to find

And? Are you still satisfied with this rom after a while?
Well the 'ROM decay' creeped back in. I tried to counter it by cleaning things up but I had a few problems, nothing was working, I tried fix permissions from ROM toolbox and then my phone stopped booting, tried hard reset with the button on the back, couldn't get into recovery, pretty much died on me. I eventually got into recovery and caches wipes and that didn't work, I tried reinstalling the ROM and gapps without losing my data, it just got stuck on the boot logo, then recovery stopped working again, I eventually got in and had to wipe data, reinstall ROM and I finally got the phone booting again.
I'm not satisfied to be honest, its frustrating that I have to wipe the phone or reflash the roms so often, never has a phone been this bad for me. I'm selling it and moving to the OnePlus One in a few weeks, this phone has been nothing but headaches.

IF you are going to stay or at least try for the last time, I suggest formatting /boot but please be careful as I dont really know what will happen if you reboot the device while /boot is empty.
As in PC, an empty boot partition will leave an inaccessible Operating System. If in phone they are the same then I guess it can be much repairable.
IF again it fails and you are still staying I suggest extreme formatting by using the PC Companion and start fresh.
These are still suggestions and I hope you will have a headache free adventures with One plus. Good luck

Thanks for the advice, For me, its the lack of RAM on this phone which is my problem. After a reboot, i have about 300mb free ram, and as soon as I have more than one simple app running (or just one game), ill get a very slow UI, and I have to be very careful and patient with it or it will crash. To me, that is terrible, why would anyone think this is acceptable for a smartphone to just about be able to run an app and hold the interface together. When the System UI crashes, or the lockscreen, It frustrates me so much! The most important part of a touchscreen phone is the UI, without it, your just staring at a blank screen.
There has to be something deep in this phone (the kernel?) where its memory management is broken in someway, ive never experienced a phone be so unstable with 1GB of RAM. When I bought it, I was really hopeful it would be good, it was higher specced than my last phone, it had 4g, it had jelly bean updates coming out, and at the time, a future update to kitkat, and we had support from FXP and CM. What weve actually got is a half baked attempt at 4.3 by Sony, a cancelled 4.4 update, and weve been moved to legacy support by FXP when CM11 didnt even get to the stable point. We may have lollipop builds coming out which could be the savior for this phone, but im sick of waiting for something which might not happen. I just want to be able to rely on my phone and not spend half my screen on time waiting for something to crash and then restart.
Back on my Optimus L9, it has only 768MB ram and a lower clocked dual core CPU but that could run CM10 fine, I never ever had UI crashes, ever! I got lag from time to time, but nothing crashed. Thie SP has 100mb+ more RAM available and a higher clocked CPU but it feels so much more clunky and unstable compared to the L9, it should be the other way round. On my nexus 7 2012 which is similarly specced to the SP (apart from the tegra quad CPU) I again, had no UI crashes, I had lags, but at least things didnt crash. My friend has the Xperia L, which is lower specced than the SP and is only on 4.1, but again, he never gets UI crashes and generally, his phone can run games smoother than I can even though he has lower specs!
This phone, for me, just doesn't fit my needs. It cant really multi task how I would expect it to, and having the phone pretty much lock up if its writing to internal storage is a joke, installing an app from the play store, and not being able to bring down the notification bar to look at the progress without causing problems, to me just feels like something is seriously wrong. The lightbar was the only thing ive really liked on the phone to this day. At first, I was loving this phone, it was great, the only problem I had on 4.1 was that I couldn't play Injustice because it would close the game after a while. I thought, ill wait for software updates, hopefully Sony will fix it. Then the 4.3 updates came but they were buggy, but I held onto hope because at the time, 4.4 was in the pipeline. Then we got a few more 4.3 updates which did fix some bugs but this RAM problem was still there. So I gave up on Official software and tried out custom stuff. I've tried modified Stock ROM's where you get more features but the same inherent problems are there. Ive tried CM, but there hasnt been a stable release of 4.4 and the snapshot builds have also stopped. Vanir ROM is designed to be stable, its one of their highest priorities with their builds. And I definitely feel the difference, but this lack of RAM becomes more obvious with time, this week, I've seen my UI crash 4 times.
Ive done what you've said about fully starting fresh with PC companion Ive flashed stock FTF's and Ive done the PC companion method, Ive done that at least 5 times in the past. When I first do it, it seems like everything is okay. But without fail, after a month of use (usually less) the phone will bog down and the RAM issues return. Maybe my specific device has faulty RAM or something or maybe the storage is messed up. All I know is, this phone has not been enjoyable for me to use, lower specced phones are out performing it, and its value has plummeted in trade in stores like CEX, my old L9 that I traded into my local CEX is being sold for more money than an SP is.
Im sorry to rant but ive just had enough of this phone.
Ive got to flash the phone fully back to stock for when I sell it, so ill go back to full stock, and see if it will last.

Its okay and I have read all of your post
It quite saddens me that some people isnt actually having fun with their SP. Shockingly enough, my SP does not face those mentioned problems (heck most of those that appears in the forum) but some exceptions goes to Stock Rom bugs and game problems.
This is my first android phone, I actually always wanted one but i am a teenager - i dont make money. But since my dad bought me this lovely sp, I have finally gained so much knowledge about android and it somehow further strengthens my Linux knowledge.
Maybe I was just lucky. Perhaps. But who knows if something is still wrong with my phone
I understand things will get older - people will buy new phones, developer will stop developing, people who got bored of customising etc. In fact I have seen so much decline of SP since the discontinued 4.4 update.
This is my first smartphone and I love it. It has an awesome community and awesome devs, but now it is getting old. Which quite sad to me.
I am saving for Ara phone (i hope it doesnt fail like smartwatches do). Since you are quite involved with many developments (i mean you customise your phone much like others), I hope your transition to a new device is a breeze. And above all, doesn't have the bugs that SP has.
LOL, I thought I was the only one with a "faulty SP".
My XSP has the exact same problems as yours. It is very annoying to change ROMS (or wipe data) every month.
The RAM is SO BAD on my SP, even though it only have 1GB of RAM, it should be a lot better. I didn't have such problems on my Motorola Defy + as I have with the XSP.
I thank so much that we have very nice developers, always trying to improve our user exp., but for some people like me it's difficult.

Well atleast you have started on a better android device than my first one. My first was a ZTE Skate and this was back in the gingerbread days. 512MB RAM, Single core CPU, barely any internal storage. Im very used to using android in a minimalist way, but the SP just takes it to a whole different level for me, i cant take it! Im glad that you arnt having all the same problems Im having. The fact that not everyone is getting the problems is a frustration because unless its a widespread problem, people wont really be pulling together to fix it because they dont understand/experience the problems. It has to be some kind of manufacturing defect, maybe certain batches of RAM/Storage chips used in the SP are defective/bad performers.
I hope the XSP continues to work well for you!

Its a very weird problem, but its definitely RAM/Storage related.
I agree with you about the devs, I appreciate their hard work, it is great having all these ROM's to choose from when trying to solve the problems. It just seems it doesn't matter which ROM you are on, the problems will always be there. The problem must lie within the hardware or deep in the software side of things, beyond the ROM's like in the kernel or something. I dont know enough about those sides of a phone, but I can see just from using the phone, something isnt right.
It sucks that you are facing the same problems, but its nice to know im not alone in my experiences, its not just me.
If only we knew what the issue was, maybe there would be a chance to solve the issue.
I have the same problems with my phone exactly and am going to smash it with a hammer when I get a new phone. It is indeed so frustrating, I expect much more from sony!
i stopped to mess up with custom kernels, stock 207 is the best option.

Tablet crash on Mirek7, mirek5 and googlenowdebloated roms! What can i do ? GPU CRASH

Hello guys,
I got my tablet some month ago, it's the m5c5 model. I immediately flashed mirek roms 7 on it, and it ran fine for a week.
Since then, it crashes a few times a day. It is extremely annoying! It doesn't matter what app I'm running, it just crashed randomly. The screen looks like this
I can't post outside links, as I'm a new user so put h before it : ttp://i.imgur.com/qfDQAB3.jpg
I assumed it had to do with mirek's rom, so I installed his previous version, his ultralight version, still happened a few times a day.
So I flashed the debloated stock rom, and it still happens!!!
Can someone please, please help me!
It is extremely frustrating
Thank you in advance
Hi rekopel,
I'm also experiencing the same problem with the same model of X98. Have you managed to solve this problem in any way or you prefered stop using this tablet?
My problems do not occur so frequently but from time to time it happens to crash. At least once per day if I use it more. This happens during usage of simple everyday apps not games. I don't play them, so I don't know what would happen in that particular case.
If anyone has any solution to this I would be very glad. I'm still using stock rom. I'm thinking on firmware flashing, but I'm not sure that would solve my problem.
Thanks in advance.
I recently updated my stock firmware with Google Now and tablet works much better now. However random freezes still occur almost every day at least once, sometimes even more. It's very frustrating making this tablet almost useless. When buying this tablet I read almost only positive reviews about it, but it seems it's no more than Chinese scrap.
According to high popularity of this tablet at it's launch I would suppose these tablets are still in use, as we don't buy them for only a year or less. But with this model I might be wrong.
So, if anyone has any solution I would much appreciate it
Hi everybody,
I also experience the same problem. My tablet model is C5J6. It happens both in Windows and Android, more often in Android.
I've suspected it has some bad memory block, and when the applications access it - crashes. But I run standard memory test in Windows, and it passed without any problems.
If anyone find something, please share.
Thanks.

Display/UI lagging

Hey, i finally got my Oneplus 7T Pro and i decided to root my Note 9 after that, so that i have a device non rooted for diffrent reasons for saftey. But im facing a weird Problem. Im on root since my S5, so i guess i know what to do. But after i flashed Alexanders Rom, my whole UI is lagging like my display has only 30 Hz. After that, i tried to go back to totaly stock Rom from Sammobile. That worked fine, but i dont get the lagg away.
Dont know what else to do.. i wiped my Cache also after Stock Rom installation. I bootet in Safemode etc. I figured out that the lagg appears ~10 Sec after UI boot, short before the vibration feedback that the device is ready booted. So i guess something is wrong. If i switch in Devopotions the toggle, to render the Display via GPU only, things gettingt minimal better with lagg. Not so perfect like before but a bit better. So i guess it can maybe be something with the Displaydriver or similar ??!
ATM on actual December FW CSK2. My Device is German DBT unbranded. Maybe someone knows more about it. Anyway, the Device is fully functional, i can live with this lagging ui cause its not more my daylie driver. But would be nice, if i can fix this somehow.
*edit* i dont installed any custom Kernel or similar. Just alexanders rom, so i done no oc or else with this device.

Question What is your experience like with the official Pixel Experience ROM?

Model: M2101K7BNY (rosemary_global) (Bought in Europe)
I want to flash PE+ on my Redmi, but first I want to know what other people have to say.
I already tried to flash PE GSI before and I got stuck in a bootloop, managed to fix it somehow (I think I switched to B or something like that, not sure) and promised myself I won't try it again. But now that the official ROM is out, I'm tempted to try it again.
1. I read somewhere that PE drains the battery in some cases with some other phones, is that also the case with this phone? If yes, how drastic is it?
2. I also read that the camera app that you get with PE is pretty bad. Can I do anything about that? I just tried installing GCam 8.1 for the first time on MIUI 13 just to test it out and the photos come out very dark for some reason so I want to know what can be done about that.
3. Does Bluetooth have any problems and can they be fixed?
4. Is it a straight-forward and easy process to go back to MIUI?
And lastly, are there any other important things that I should know?
Thanks in advance.
It has some problems but is good enough for now, srry 4 bad english.
Before this custom rom I was using Evolution X and that was working better but it was unofficial so I change to PE+ (and before Evolution X I had the stock rom MIUI but didn't like it).
The problems I found for now and hoping for a solution for them in the future are:
-Videos from Facebook and NewPipe lags sometimes, more evident in Newpipe but I think it's a problem coming from the Rom and not from the apps
-Can't use my DAC (FIIO KA1)
Only the first problem is really annoying.
About your questions:
-Don't know about battery drains, actually I didn't pay attention about that in this Rom and in Evolution X
-The Stock camera app is bad, but you can install the Google Camera app port with a XML config, there is a topic about that around here.
-I don't use bluetooth headphones (because for a ear infection) but for the moment didn't have any problems with other bluetooth dispositives
-I don't know if the process to go back to MIUI is straight-foward, following a tutorial should be enough.
I hope this reply could help you.

Downgrading S20 FE 5G SM-G780G Android 13 One Ui 5.1 to Android 11

hello
i've never downgraded/flashed any firmware on this device before, so before i do something that might be fatal/result in bricking my phone i would like to ask is it possible to downgrade a S20 FE android 13 to android 11? while my one ui version is 5.1 i haven't updated the security patch to the april one (the one that changes your binary) it's currently the 1 march 2023 one
i've already checked & downloaded a firmware with the correct binary number so now all i need to do is flash it
Welcome to XDA.
You're limited by the bootloader version to how far you can roll it back. If the bootloader was upgraded too, you're boned. The 5th digit from the rear is the significant digit that determines that. If the rom's 5th digit is the same or higher value you can flash it. If lower, no go.

hello
i've never downgraded/flashed any firmware on this device before, so before i do something that might be fatal/result in bricking my phone i would like to ask is it possible to downgrade a S20 FE android 13 to android 11? while my one ui version is 5.1 i haven't updated the security patch to the april one (the one that changes your binary) it's currently the 1 march 2023 one

Hi, I downgraded my S20 FE several times from 13 to 12 with the same binary (obviously) with no issues at all, so you can downgrade easily.
In my experience on samsung devices (literally I flashed a hundred times on different devices) it's very unlikely that you brick your device with odin, even if you use a wrong firmware for your device....the only thing that it may brick a device is because it has a hardware damage

Hello
This will depend on your variant.
on the G780G (binary 3) and G781B (binary 4)
You can download to android 11.
since it has the same binary.
Of course, you should do it from 0.
do not install via CSC_HOME.
The installation must be clean.
before all make backup.

yes it is the same value
mine G780GXXU3EWB2
the firmware i downloaded G780GXXU3AUH5
which would make both binaries '3' right? would this be okay?

Or if the battery has insufficient charge or capacity. Any time you flash a device you take some level of risk. A power outage with no or insufficient battery backup for the PC would also end badly.
The risk is also greater with Androids because it's not a small couple dozen MB flash that's done in seconds. Lots more time and data for things to go wrong. If my Canon pro cam had a bad flash, Canon would likely repair for free or a reasonable charge. Samsung will do neither of these... repair cost plus a new mobo loaded with the latest firmware. perfect.

the CSC_HOME file
comes in the software you just downloaded.
unlike normal CSC.
The CSC_HOME is used to only update the system, without deleting anything.
in your case you are going to downgrade, use the normal CSC without _home.
thank you everyone for the help & answers

I'm referring about samsung devices based on my experience (trial and error), I had a lot of bricks, soft bricks and I was able to solve it with odin.

Yes, exactly. Why do you want to roll it back?
If it's a specific issue finding a work around may be easier.
Android 11 is no picnic either. I prefer Pie, Android 10 is ok; I'm running both and will likely never upgrade them.
Regardless you will need to lock it down so it can't do OTA upgrades/updates. That's the first thing I do on my Samsung's... once bitten, twice shy Upgrades and updates can and do break Samsung's... then you have find work arounds and fixes.

other than battery run out faster & the phone feeling a bit sluggish nothing specific....it's just i've already debloated my phone & disabled many features of the phone that i dont use and dont plan on updating my phone anymore and while that does help improve things quite significantly i just thought at this point why dont i just might aswell downgrade the phone
before i had this phone i was fine staying years with a phone that stopped receiving updates after android 6 lol just that it eventually ran its course and after several hardware problems & the phone giving up by itself (every 3 weeks or so it'll get stuck on bootloop for no reason) i assume it was time for me to buy a new one...too bad

I'm glad that's working well for you. I use to always be playing with my PC's like that. With Androids I took a more conservative approach; less down time, more play time.
I leave the firmware be on my 2 stock N10+'s. They run very good, fulfill their mission and it's simply not worth the risk or time. I don't allow firmware upgrades or updates. This N10+ in my hand is still running on Pie, firmware is 3.5 yo, and the current load will be 3 yo this June. No malware in all that time; security isn't an issue. Still fast, very stable with minimal maintenance. It's also heavily optimized and running well; I have zero incentive to change the playing field by altering the firmware.
My SQlite scores are lower than they should be in spite of my fast disk r/w scores so eventually I may do a factory reset to try to resolve that. Lol, that's the full extent of my ambition at the moment.

yep. i learned the hard way
i'm quite green at this stuff and at first i just thought "more upgrades & updates means good! i should get the most out of this device" but alas after some serious overheating & battery draining problems over loads of features i dont even use.....

Anything below Android 9 is suspectable to partition worming nasties like Xhelper. Run Android 9 or higher. Android 9 is relatively secure unless you do stupid things.
All Samsung's should be optimized. You will still have scoped storage running on Android 11 anyway. If you don't mind the UI of Android 13 I would try to find what's causing the issues.
Disable global power management then go after the power hogs on an individual case by case basis. A logging firewall is useful in finding them. Cloud, and social media apps are prime offenders. Try temporarily disabling Google play Services and see if this helps; Google backup Transport, Gmail and Playstore are dependencies of it. Enable as needed. 5G can also suck a lot of power and is inefficient when doing small bandwidth transfers. Wifi isn't needed if you have an unlimited data plan. Use Package Disabler or abd/ladb edits to take out the really problem apps that can't be resolved in settings. Don't go too nuts though; target the hogs and totally worthless apps like Digital Wellbeing. Most of the dozens a small Samsung system apps are best left alone as many modify the UI and consume very little resources. Understand what the app does and it's dependencies if any before disabling whenever possible.
Play with it...

i've done all that hahahah
other than youtube i don't have any other social media apps installed and i've already got rid of chrome & switched to a lighter browser
yep i like to experiment, i suppose the flashing stuff is the next step after all of that (yes have tried factory reset several times too, i don't mind as there aren't any important data in my phone but still, possibly getting a priceful item bricked over my messing around isn't something i'm too excited about, that's why i still like to ask around)
also what got me the idea was that i've also read from several people with the same device saying that with every android updates the phone gets even more sluggish

I learned the hard way with Samsung's too.
After the upgrade to 13 did you do a factory reset? If not, now is the time. Don't use SmartSwitch; do a clean load by importing all the critic data yourself.
At the very least clear the system cache.
I use Package Disabler to disable about 70 apps. It's not as bad as it first seems. Android 10 literally has about 100 more new system apps than 9. Most of those new ones should be left alone. My disable list for the Android 9 N10+ vs the Android 10 one is almost identical though.
Samsung's do lots of cool things so don't be too concerned until you learn more about the features. Bixby got killed right out of the gate; it's a hog and it's EULA is one of the worst I've ever read.
