Hi, my question is simple but the answer could be an entire book...
Since we can no longer trust Motorola and their crappy customer care (don't want to waste time to say those things again, all of you know what I'm talking about )
I had a look over the Internet to understand which ROM is suitable for an upgrade, but now I am confused :
there are a lot of ROMs out there, and I don't have time to test each one (more, I have only this phone, if I brick it, or block it due to an unusable ROM I have to fix it asap.).
Is there a fully working unofficial ROM with a better performance than the stock one? (with flash and app2sd?)
I understand that the locked bootloader isn't helping on this, but I'm interested in the full features of my smartphone: if camera doesn't work for example, for me it's a shame (either if everything else works flawless..).
I am root already if that can help...
Thank you in advance
Pol.

Bro, try shadowmod b3,
I have used froyomod, cm6, hobomod and shadowmod,
I can undoubtedly say that shawdowmod b3 is the best one,
Advantage:
OK battery life, never lag, stable
Disadvantages:
Aggressive autokill
(but would not affect music player, doesn't matter to me)
SMS notification light doesn't work
Sent from my A853 using XDA App
be experimental
its a question of what u personally prefer...
aesthetic appeal,lag,bugs gotta be considered..
i use the beta CM6.1.2 milestone port...
its a lill(very lil) laggy but everythin seems to work flawlessly
plus the cpu is overclocked to 900mhz. which is favourable
try diff roms and choose ... but be sure to make a backup of what u already have
I am using for about two weeks ShadowMod B3 and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
Pros :
- fast ;
- ~stable ;
- no battery problems (1d and ~15 hours - moderate use).
Cons :
- can't listen music and play in the same time (player is killed) ;
- some problems with the gallery and with the camera (specially when pressing the camera button) ;
- about ~3 restarts per week (surely the problem is the ROM and not my OC).
BTW , my SMS notification works (green light blinking). :-?
Comparing this to what I've already used (stock Eclair , CM 6.1.2), this is pretty cool, but it would be much nicer is the agressive autokill could be removed.
Thank you for your answers
I saw an outstanding performance of Quadrant on a shadowmodded milestone on Youtube, but I am worried by those bugs: as I can see there are different bugs on different milestones (how is it possible? aren't they sharing the same hardware? )
What do you mean with "Aggressive Autokill"? No multitasking?
while the cons mentioned by Abazel are not reassuring
The little lags on CM are the only issues? I read somewhere that you can no longer mount the SD card via USB and that there are some problems with camera too.
How about random reboots with this ROM?
Thank you again
Pol.
CM 6.1.2 was pretty stable for me but I was a bit laggy (not very much and was ~the single problem I found). ShadowMod b3 it's a bit weird - it works downloading and playing something at the same time but I can't listen to music and play simultaneously - the player is killed => the music starts singing => stops again (thing which could have been done easily under CM 6.1.2). These days I am encountering several problems (restarts or freeze at "Gallery"). I don't know what is the problem. With the SD card i don't have any issues at all... works fine for me. So, if you want improved stability, go for CyanogenMod 6.1.2. If you want a "bumpy ride" , try ShadowMod. ) Have a nice day!
Thank you,
I assume that these are the two best options.
I wonder if CM7 is already stable enough or if it's better to use CM6 since it's already stable.
BTW I believe that ****ijsood is right, I have to be experimental. Just need to find some spare time to waste on this...
Yep, the main problem of shadowmod b3 is the aggressive autokill,
Because of this feature, the phone never lag.
Some think that this autokill is disturbing coz they are used to listening to music and at the same time play game.
But as I never do that, this autokill wouldn't disturb me.....
As this phone has limited ram, there is always a tradeoff....
I am not saying that cm6 is not good. It has the best features and widgets.
But I just cannot stand the laggy feeling
If the Autokill would affect only "heavy" apps like games and music players, maybe it's not so bad.
I think I'll give Shadowmod a try, I can always change again if I find it too buggy.
Thank you for your answers
polengo, or others, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was wondering if there are any 'improved" ROMS out there now for the MM1.
I recently acquired a Milestone (3-4 months) running Eclair and it's been kind of quirky. Random freezes, random reboots, laggy, when bluetooth or headphone is disconnected the music player starts on its own. Battery life has been quite good stock, with light to moderate use.
Thanks.
Cm7 for me has been the best. I have had one random reboot in the past couple weeks. runs smooth, and the battery life is as good as any other rom ive tried.
Well, right now, I think the best rom around is latest CM7 or HONOmod. Although, you might want to give a try to CM6 or Luca's froyomod, if you need an extra piece of ram. The only drawback with froyo based roms right now is the lack of active development. You have to face that MM1 is an old piece of hardware right now!
Enviado desde mi Milestone usando Tapatalk
The CM9 Alpha runs quiet smooth.
I use it in my daily life.
Trying to install HO!NO! using clockworkmod and keep getting (error 7). I am not seeing this error with other roms. I tried toggling the signature verification and that only pushed the error back a few more seconds. Should I move the file out of openrecovery directory and place it in the nandroid directory and ask Nandroid to perform a backup using the HO!NO! zip file? In other words, should I use your zip as a backup and not as a rom? I look forward to checking your ROM out. The buzz is pretty exciting. Thanks.

No nightly's?
Hi,
I am currently on the Liquid Smooth 20.10. go, but I am surprised that no new versions are on the go. Is it so that only a new Nightly appears if there are changes?

Remove battery for restart.
Hello,
When i charging my battery power off, i can't restart with the power button.
I must remove my battery for restart.
Somebody have this same problem ?

cannot install liquidsmooth rom
i'm still new in installing roms. i was able to install rxtreme rom, i would like to try the LS rom. i downloaded the latest nightly rom, and it prompted installation aborted.
i compared the rxtreme rom that i downloaded, it was 1.2gb. but for the LS, it was just over 200mb. i hope someone here can provide me detailed instructions on how to install Liquidsmooth rom on my s3 i9305.
systemui crashes
Hi guys,i just installed the rom and after the reboot i enter the pin code and that message about systemui pops up every 3 seconds.
EDIT:SO i installed the previus version and everything seems fine exept some random camera issues and the notifications
swipe to left functions most of the times doesnt work or maybe it has to do with spesific apps. Can i upgrade to the latest nightly version without doing a hard reset?

Read the instructions at the beginning of this thread. It's all there.
It is a little different to rxtreme.
You will need to download the ROM and GApps. I'd download Milestone version - read earlier posts for location.
Go to recovery, flash the ROM then GApps.
Hope all goes well.

Yes, but its not case of the rom, it's case of the old battery on any AOSP/CM gave me the exact same problem, I buyed a new battery and no more problems, it's all ok.

Review of the liquid smooth i9305 ROM 4.4.4
I've been using this ROM for the last four months and my verdict is...
...it's ****. S. H. I. T.
So bad that I've gone back to the stock ROM. Maybe it's because the i9305 is a relatively unknown phone (compared to the i9300). Nevertheless it's evident here that little effort has gone into research and testing of this ROM. Here are all the issues I came across during my usage of what is the most terrible android experience I've had.
Battery life: This ROM basically chews up the battery faster than a fat kid in a candy store. Seriously sit back and watch, throughout the day, as battery percentage slips lower and lower until it knocks itself out. And then that brings me to the next problem,
The phone will not charge when the battery is completely dead (phone off): That's right the phone has to be on, before this ROM realises that it should be charging the phone.
Camera: The camera will take about 4 shots, sometimes 10, if you're lucky before it completely fails. The only way around this is by performing a soft or hard reboot. Super fun when you're at a party and when taking a group image, the camera ****s itself. Even with third party camera apps the problem persists.
Microphone: I don't know how a ROM could possibly **** up the microphone, but this ROM succeeds in doing just that. Any recording performed sounds like a 1950s CB radio. This is an experience that you force on everyone you call by having the audacity to use this ****ty ROM.
Multiple Application Incompatibilities: Several big ticket applications fail to run with LiquidCrap. For example Skype refuses to initiate and Viber will not make video calls. That leaves Google Hangouts which for some reason decides to induce a 4 second lag in every word in your conversation.
Video playblack: Wow a custom ROM that refuses to easily work with flash video. The developers solution here is to force you to use dolphin viewer to browse and run some flash mods to work. Unfortunately none of that works. And it's not just flash that refuses to run. Any HTML5 gif or video will not play. Then there are some videos where only the sound will play but nothing else. Good luck watching anything on youtube which is not accessible by the youtube app. Which surprisingly works well.
Random restarts: Oh were you typing in something important? Would be a shame if I just...restarted right now.
Screen Rotation: Lags.
So if you're 13 years old and get a kick out of changing colors in status bars; by all means get this ROM. If you actually have responsibilities and need your phone....to work. Then avoid this ROM at all costs. Hell, avoid every custom ROM for the i9305. Unless it's a slightly modified stock Samsung. This as this there's less chance that something is royally ****ed as in the case here.

Hi Guys! Im fairly new, I only flashed about 10 roms. Using this rom for 5 days now, I have a lot of problems, bugs. But I want to give it another try, because I heard very good things about this rom. so...
garbled "mosaic like" graphics on locksreens notifications only when Im moving them with my fingers
garbled notification bar icons when running tinder
strange scrolling in play/own apps during app updating - app rectangles in the listing seems to detach from the scrolling background, moving slower/faster.
various gfx glitches too fast or short to recall
camera is unusable, ugly FCs, "cant connect"s, even reboots, or phone freezed up for several seconds. using power button release seems to make it worse.
it was clean install, full wipe (FR), + cache before and after flashing. (Philz Touch)
installed:
LS-KK-MileStone-3.2-i9305.zip
Liquid_gapps.4.4.4.build.8.1.zip
I came from stock KK, it was the NEE version (I9305XXUFNL1_I9305NEEFOA1_I9305XXUFOA1_HOME). and some others before that.
Can I make an "even cleaner" install...? Can it be some things left from other roms causing these problems?
Or any advice, so it would work like on your devices?
thx in advance
ps: sorry for the previous post

Have you had any luck on sorting your problems out? I've found this ROM to be amazing.
It's fast, smooth and everything works well.
I've played with lollipop ROMs but they have issues so keep coming back. Though when aicp 5.1 is sorted, it is a decent option; very fast and smooth.
Anyway I am using TWRP 2.8.5.0 recovery and stock kernel that came with the ROM. I do a full advanced wipe them factory wipe. I also use SuperSU.
If you're still having issues you could store your files in an external SD card, totally format your internal storage and start again from scratch.
Hope that helps.

Hi! thx for the answer, but I did everything, apart from I left below. What do you mean by total format? How its done, with what app, and how the carrier/region etc related content is put back after that? I have latest philz touch, and I do dalvik+cache+full wipe before AND after each flash. Im not concerned about my files, everything is on ExtSD and cloud.
Yes the rom is much cooler than CM for the first look, but after 5 days heavy use I got serious problems just like the angry guy mentioned a few post above. after I moved in all my apps and stuff, it lost its smoothness, FCs, and hard battery drain with hot phone.
But the main thing was after I wrote my post, I realized that this rom is not maintained anymore, which is a problem for the 9305. U gotta use what is maintained, so the last day was so bad with this rom, I went back to CM immediately! Which is a dream in simplicity, speed, and battery life, and the latest only few days old!
of course Im still interested in the total format you mentioned, and in this rom, if it gets sorted out...

There are different ways to fully format your internal drive but you will need to backup any important data files to your SD card first. A full format will wipe it clean. I don't use philz these days but from memory you mount system, data etc and format them. Other options are files like those provided by Agni developer for F2FS will wipe it clean as well. As I use twrp it is different again.
I've been on this ROM for months now. It's fast, smooth, no FCs, and with decent use through the day I get 2 full days out of the battery before a recharge.
I use Greenify app, turn off fast dormancy and if there are drainage issues it's generally about finding the rogue app. Titanium backup is another must have app to backup and restore apps. It makes things so easy.
It's not maintained as you say but I don't see that being relevant; it's a well cooked 4.4.4 ROM! You can use other options such as F2FS +/- ART to tweak performance.
The only ROM I'm playing with at present is the 5.1 aicp which is super fast. Only had bug with Apex launcher my launcher of choice.
Have fun! Cheers

Hi,
I just took my old Nexus six out of the drawer thinking I would start using it again but sadly the dreaded speaker death has occurred. Is there a series of steps I should take to try to fix it? Earphones work fine and Bluetooth works fine but nothing comes out of the top speaker at all even with the volume set to high. I'm on android version 7.11, pure Nexus v. 7.1.1.20170215-OFFICIAL, rooted, with the kernel Franco 3.10.40.
What should I try first, hardware fixes or software? It used to work, now is dead.
Roll back to stock first to verify whether this is a hardware or software issue. If it's software, install a ROM more current than Pure Nexus. Otherwise you'll have to hunt for a new speaker.
I will install stock first. Where would I find a new speaker if that's what it needs?
Update: rolled back to stock and sound works fine now. You are brilliant! Now have to decide what ROM to use. Any recommendations?
You first have to decide if you want VoLTE or wifi-calling. For that you need a Oreo rom, and the only one I know that is still updated is LineageOS 15.1.
Otherwise, you can take your pick from the Pie roms. I believe that they all work fine on the N6, it's more a question of which extra features you prefer.

Is there any great advantage to upgrading from stock? Now that I've got the phone working pretty well I'm a little hesitant to start messing around with lineage or one of the pie ROMs. Will the phone run faster and have less lag and have better camera options if I upgrade the ROM?
Thanks again for helping me get my phone working again.

The new roms have many more features, both from the newer Android, and from the efforts of the rom devs.
Of course, you may not need or even like the new features. Myself, I hate the new auto-brightness in Pie.
There are also some speed optimizations, but IMO they don't make a world of difference.
I believe that the camera driver is closed source, and therefore unchanged from stock. The camera app can however provide different amounts of options on top of the driver (Snap Camera in lineage has a lot of options) - but you should be able to get that by installing other camera apps on stock as well.
But most of all, I like to have the newest security fixes.
The bootloader has an option called: "factory mode" that has an app called: "CQATest"
After loading it choose "CQA Menu Mode"
Audio --> Loudspeaker
This will play an audio test file at full volume until you press the vol down or back button.
This is a useful application for general hardware testing too.
Hi guys,
my OP3T is increasingly getting on my nerves and I'd love some input on what I should do next. I've been running rooted OxygenOS with TWRP and SuperSU - as far as I can tell, this is old technology. Every time Oneplus released an update, I'd download the full zip file, flash it in TWRP and flash SuperSU over it. Reboot and I'm up and running again right away.
Now with the OOS 9.x.x release issues, things are getting a bit more complicated - I think this might be the right point in time to do a full wipe, back up everything via Titanium Backup and start fresh with a new custom ROM that will (maybe) provide updates for the next year or two.
In general the OP3T is starting to get a little slow. Google Assistant is flakey (Sometimes doesn't activate properly on "OK Google", sometimes plays the beep and then doesn't record any commands, sometimes pops up behind the home screen icons so you can't read any of the text, sometimes just ignores the "OK Google") and the battery life is going downhill a little bit. I'm hoping a fresh wipe and maybe a new ROM will help here. I also need to take care of the earpiece issues - mine is clogged with dust, as are many Oneplus phones if Google results are anything to go by...
So I have a few options:
1. Sell the OP3T cheap (can't give it to my girlfriend because of the earpiece), buy a Pixel or some other phone
2. Upgrade the OP3T to OxygenOS 9.x.x and keep my data with this method (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/guide-cope-9-0-3-5-0-8-firmware-barrier-t3941164)
3. Upgrade the OP3T to OOS 9.x.x, wipe everything and move to Magisk or something like that - what are my options here? Is Magisk the go-to method to get root these days?
4. Pick a custom ROM, wipe everything and just move to that. Anyone have a recommendation that's pretty much stock Android, stable and will likely receive regular security updates for the next one or two years? Easy updates with root would be a definite plus!
Any suggestions? Half of me is about ready to trash the OP3T and just get a Pixel now that I can't hear callers when I answer the phone

You could get the ear piece and microphone ports cleaned.
You could do a clean install.
You could install custom ROMs
You could upgrade.
These are all choice you make.
My personal choice: I'm keeping my phone for at least 4 years. I'd be happy very with just OOS (I think it's the best rom I've ever used), but I want security updates. And for that reason I use LineageOS (I've been using it and CM since 2012).
You make your choice based on what matters too you.

Hi Bill,
thanks for your answer.
Of course it's a personal choice that I'll have to make - I'm just looking to get some more info and pros/cons for each choice before wasting my time. Cleaning my earpiece is something that'll take an hour or so of careful fiddling (Is there a permanent fix to get it dustproof? Maybe an aftermarket dust gasket of some kind?), and backup/wipe/flash/restore is something that'll certainly take a chunk out of one of my weekends. All in all that's probably 12 hours of my life I'm not getting back.
Mainly what I want to know is: Is wiping the phone flashing a custom ROM like LineageOS viable for reliable day to day use on the OP3T? How has your experience been compared to OxygenOS in regards to:
-Updates (both security and Android version) - Is the update process seamless now or is it still done purely by a flash from recovery?
-Stability (I'm seeing only nightly builds on the LineageOS page [https://download.lineageos.org/oneplus3] - are there stable or even milestone builds?)
-Feature completeness compared to OxygenOS... do things like double-tap-to-wake work?
-Root... as I asked in my OP, what method is standard these days? Lineage suggests its "AddonSU" package but everyone else seems to say Magisk ist the way to go...?
-Is anything broken?
?
Does anyone else have alternative suggestions in regards to ROMs that may be exactly what I'm looking for? Something that looks and feels exactly like OxygenOS?

Mainly what I want to know is: Is wiping the phone flashing a custom ROM like LineageOS viable for reliable day to day use on the OP3T? How has your experience been compared to OxygenOS in regards to:
-Updates (both security and Android version) - Is the update process seamless now or is it still done purely by a flash from recovery?
-Stability (I'm seeing only nightly builds on the LineageOS page [https://download.lineageos.org/oneplus3] - are there stable or even milestone builds?)

Updates: I dirty flash them in recovery once a month.
Security updates: Los gets them every month. OOS may get one more update, but that will be the last.
Completeness: I find Los as good as OOS. And Nlos (https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...elopment/rom-nlos-16-0-t3879405/post78433980) even has scrolling screenshots. Note: I don't care much about the camera as I rarely use it.
Root: I've been using Magisk since SuperSU became unsupported. I like it better than SuperSU. I have absolutely to problems with it.
Broken: nothing's broken for me.
But you would have known all of this if you read through the various threads. And there's no "best" rom as it's a subjective decision.
So jump in and try things for yourself.

hi, i have an s10+ exynos (g975f) and i think i have been having problems since i updated from android 9 to 10 from updater. First, when I'm typing the s10 it seems to get stuck because I'm typing at a normal speed but keyboard puts other words!!!!!! this is very annoying, I was about to throw my phone on the floor!!!
Second, my phone is overheating more than usual, and this version has a lot of bugs with a lot of apps, even when i updated them. Really this cellphone has cost me much money i don't like to hate it. has this problem happened to someone else? i have some experience flashing phones (old models) but i think i know how to use odin and other programs well, and i wanna know what you recommend me guys, i would like to root with magisk the stock rom but i don't know in what version i can do that, i didn't like android 10 so much because of this errors, i just want compatibility with all and work calm and i don't want to flash custom roms because i need Samsung's original apps like gear 360.
I have heard the best rom for this model is stock rooted? I wanna know how to extend the battery life too, it has increased since the update.
What can I do guys?
Note: I did the Android 10 update without wiping data
Hi bro,
Even i have the same exynos model indian version and i dont face any lagging lr freezing issue like u have told above but even i face the heating issue.
I think u should format your device once it may help.
when my phone update to Android 10, I wipe the data clean and I have no issue with the phone at all. You should try it.
